That is myself and my ex-husband facing backwards on the Comet! My Dad happened to find this and posted it on my Facebook account. So cool! Thanks for the memories!!
What an emotional mess of memories. My youth. My heart when I was a child. Days are not like this anymore. Thank you for helping me remember. A shame is what this place has become now!!!!!!!!!
I grew up in this place I call it mine.. every year during the Ford picnic fuck man I miss this place I close my eyes and I'm there instantly I don't even have to close my eyes that's how much I love it and now it's all fucking Gone
I understand. We had a n amusement park here in Houston, Playland Park...closed in the late 60s/early 70s. My first roller coaster ride, Coaster...was terrified!...but I loved it!! I still miss the park and especially the coaster, even today. What do we have today?...nothing!! Why don't they build another amusement park?...too much crime in the city. Just have to cherish the memories.
My Dad worked for Westinghouse in Buffalo and every year he would come home from work with Crystal Beach tickets in his lunch box for annual family picnic. This was the greatest time of my youth from the 60s and 70s. Crystal Beach was a magical place that will never be forgotten in my memories.
Thanks for sharing this. As a kid from Northern Ireland at the height of the troubles, I stayed with family from Buffalo called the McGennis family. They had a summer home in Point Abino and spent our summers at Point Abino day camp and a lot at Crystal Beach. Great memories.
My Mom worked there for several years starting out at one of the sucker stands near the Laugh in the Dark then worked her way over to the Penny Arcade where she finished up there back in the late 70's and 80's ... Thanks for sharing .. it really brought back memories :)
So, that POV of comet was super good camera quality, especially audio. It didn't glitch out because of wind and didn't have anything messed up video wise. Great vid.
If possible, thank you father for me (us) - this was amazing to see. So many photos are from the parks hey-days but I wanted to see the park as I remembered it and this footage captured that time perfectly! Thank you for posting
I was still a kid when they closed permanently. Always had a blast when my parents, aunts and uncles would plan a big family trip to Crystal Beach. Amusement Parks just don't have the same feel anymore, they're nothing but corporate cash grabs. Thanks for sharing this video, it brought back a lot of fond memories.
Sad , but true , but that is what people like and want . Crystal Beach , could not compete with Canada's Wonderland or Six Flags and it was too wooden and deteriorated in many places .
In the later years , Sam and his crew installed the Comet's first two cars backwards so riders faced backwards and the trains last two cars forward to increase ridership.( As seen here in this video) PTC the ride designer and builder was consulted prior to this modification being made. PTC, Philladelphia Tobbogan Company, of USA.
Much of this park still exists however scattered (Comet is at Great Escape, the Ferris Wheel is on Toronto Island, ect). The big loss is Giant Coaster, which was one of the few side friction coasters remaining at the time of its closure.
Great video! Not only did I go with my family as a kid, but I was there with my soon to be wife & our ring bearer (Andrew). He was about 5 at the time. We rode the yellow roller coaster about 10 times in a row. She is gone now, but have Special memories like this to remind me of her.
I remember me and my mom a couple years ago at the market their was booth where you could take a picture like you were in the laugh in the dark ride. She told me she used to go to this amusement park when she was little
@@Tigershark620 The comet is still truly a great ride, even after it was relocated to the Great Escape. I live 20 mins away and ride it every time I go
I've never gotten over this park closing. To know its filled with drab vinyl mega cottages angers me. That whole area is broken up into the haves and have nots surrounding by tall fencing 😔
There actually was one more weekend for Crystal Beach Amusement Park after that weekend, The two Stelco Unions rented the park for their annual picnics on Saturday for Lake Erie Works and Sunday for Hilton Works, we went as guests.
Amazing memories there..old school amusement park the way it should look like..today's parks r to complicated and no feel..thx to Canada's Wonder Garbage Land
I still recall the jalopies , we used to jump off the cars that were on the track and have to run to get back on . There was a sign that if anyone was caught jumping off , they would have to leave the park . I do no know if it was because I was little ,but man I had to run fast to get back on those cars .
Wonderful documentation. I've been working on a rock opera called "Laff In The Dark" and would be interested including some of your footage in a montage sequence that incorporates other vintage footage. Kindly let me know if you'd be interested in licensing. Thanks!
Sorry for the late response, I'm not sure if the project is still happening, but I would be very interested in licensing the footage for you! Let me know if this is still a possibility
It was known on that day that it would be closing, which is why the lines were so long and why my father decided to film as much as possible. Glad you enjoyed!
These smaller parks were the best. But Crystal Beach in Ontario and Roseland Park in New York couldn’t compete with the newer, bigger, ride filled Darien Lake and Canada’s Wonderland
Fuck I miss this place. Lived in Crystal beach til i was 6, wouldve been 7 when it closed, I went one last time end of August 89 They never changed the one stamp, it was a stop sign so we got good at drawing them and sneaking into the park back in those days.
These definitely killed the local area man weht to a cottage that one of my friends family owned and it was in the Summer fun and many memories as a 20 something but ☠️💀 as f****k sad man

I lived in Fort Erie, then Ridgeway and Crystal Beach when i was a kid. This brought back fond memories thank you!
That was one great park ! At least the Comet is still with us . One of the best classic coasters . Thanks for posting .
Thank you for this video I can remember going thier with my family brings back good memories
Thanks for bringing back some of my greatest child hood memories !
Awesome memories at Crystal Beach brings ya back thanks for sharing.
I remember i was 16. I went the very last day that place was opened. Many memories

Nice rare pov of Comet at Crystal Beach. I live right near Great escape so I’ve ridden it so many times that I’ve memorized the layout lol.
I WORKED THERE BACK IN 1963, IN THE CAFETERIA, MY BOSS WAS, MR OLSON
So many terrific memories were made there.❤
Guess what, This “Comet” coaster is now in Six Flags Great Escape! You can visit the park if you want to see it again. Nice video by the way!
I was 12 years old and attended the day with my Air Cadet Squadron. I am thankful I am old enough to remember it, as well as to have experienced it.

I really could see the comet as being the best RMC/Coaster in the world of Rmc existed at that time and it got rmc'd
One should not tamper with perfection.

Early sixties.... me and my brother straight to the penny girlie show machines. Yeah...

The way time flew I can't tell if this footage looks like it's from 1989, 1999, or even 2009.

I am so happy that the comet is were it is now. At a park known as six flags great escape
OH MY HEART 😍
What kind of camera were you using? This video is spectacular.
Was it known on the day that it would be closing or just suspected or was the closing announced later? Thanks. Great footage, thanks for sharing.

so THAT’S how RCT3’s screams were made.
Is it alright if I use some of this footage for my video?
The ride at 337 time mark is at CANADA wonderland
I grew up there😎
Lol the screaming is the best hahaha
That guy yelling on the coaster is so annoying lol
