    The EU cannot drop the backstop because in such case a third country (the UK) would have preferential trading treatment which goes against the rules of the WTO.
    The EU are not being mean, they're not punishing the UK, they can't simply ignore the backstop which means there will be a customs border in the island of Ireland!

      They're rhetorically using adjectives which basically have nothing to do with the noun, but the adjectives are negative, thus creating a negative feeling about the matter. Joseph Goebbels used that technique...
      Interspersing "undemocratic", "unelected", "unpatriotic" suits a purpose - like "turbo-charged", which everything seems to be now 😄
      I borrow a funny sentence from another user: "We can now look forward to buy undemocratic bread in unpatriotic supermarkets with unelected managers" 😂

    My understanding is that the next deadline for Brexit is October 31. If BoJo really wants to go without a deal he can do it tomorrow, can't he? Any time up until October 31, when it becomes inevitable. Yes? He is blowing hot air about no-deal. He is terrified about no-deal or he would do it right NOW. All I can think is that he is hoping that the horse will learn to sing... Holy Fuck, the UK is going to get Rogered. You are doing it to yourselves.

    • @KarlStephanNeufeldt
      @KarlStephanNeufeldt 5 лет назад +2

      No he cannot leave on his own accord now. Not without parliament's support. What he can do on his own is let the default - exit on the 31st - play out. Here the situation is the exact opposite. Parliament can not do anything to stop it from occurring without a government , not necessarily the current, requesting another delay.

      @@KarlStephanNeufeldt You are right. I did not remember that he needs the support of parliament. The difference between May and Johnson is expectations. No one expected May to take Uk out of EU.

    Boris is playing what he sees as "hardball". This is the method Brits were warned against using 3 years ago. Theresa May more than once asked the citizens to hold their nerve as she entered the hardest part of the agreement (the Irish border), which she admitted she had kept for last because of the difficulty. She tried to convince her critics her deal would be the best possible, and that is what Brexiters chose to attack. Leavers still hold on to the idea the best way to get what you want is to harken back to the ancient days of the Empire. Threaten, blockade, dominate. Leavers were convinced May was too weak, too willing to give in. Her frequently repeated aim to combine the Remain voters concerns about job losses and damages to UK business with an orderly exit led to a deal that Leavers refused to consider in an attempt to force her out.
    Nothing is cleared up by replacing May with Boris as long as Northern Ireland is in the way.
    Does Boris have access to enough money to buy his way through a no-deal Brexit? That's what he seems to be saying, and that is what his talking heads are emphasizing, using credit as the means and giveaways to the rich as the grease.

    • @stu8729

      I think May should have been stronger by pointing out that whilst the likes of Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson and Nigel Farage ran away she acted in good faith......she should have just given the country the take it or leave it option via a referendum maybe.

    In logic, reductio ad absurdum (Latin for "reduction to absurdity"), also known as argumentum ad absurdum (Latin for "argument to absurdity"), apagogical arguments or the appeal to extremes, is a form of argument that attempts either to disprove a statement by showing it inevitably leads to a ridiculous, absurd, or impractical conclusion, or to prove one by showing that if it were not true, the result would be absurd or impossible. wikipedia
