Congratulations on your new appointment! 🎉 I'm very excited for you and I cant think of a better, more qualified person to help Make America Healthy Again ! I can't wait to see what comes next.
I do wild rabbit habitat improvements for keeping coyote pressure off wild deer and turkey. Rabbits multiply fast to handle predation and takes pressure off other game species. If they chase a deer they may get distracted by some rabbits running along the way. A healthy ecosystem has lots of small game.
I prefer the larger meat rabbits -- Palomino is my favorite followed by New Zealand. They will be 9-12 pounds for does and 8-11 for bucks. I like them to be at least 5 pounds at butcher time. To Joel's point, 28 babies per doe per year is then 140 pounds each live weight. Times 6 does and you're pushing 900 pounds.
Great info. Only thing I disagreed with was: 4:07 does don’t have heats. They are induced ovulators. We’ve been raising meat rabbits for over a decade 🎉
You are right, but if the cows are on land that is only good for pasture you have free feed (if you don't count alfa alfa or other supplements). That makes the ratio switch to cows on top. But they sure are more to handle on on your own. 😅
@@peterellis4262 Yeah, the ratio would be the same. But my point was, as you mentioned, the cost. That would top the scales in favor of cows if you have the land available.
Please check for specifics on breeds. They have different requirements. I had silver fox. They get fat very easy. No, that's not good. They do have a very heavy coat and do very well in winter. Just keep them out of the wind and keep them dry. The does need to be closer to 9 months to breed. She'll have problems if bred too young. Fryers are 5 lb live weight at aboutc12 weeks. Keep them to about 16 weeks for a thicker skin if your keeps the fur Which...it is a dual purpose breed and the fur is amazing ❤️
I noticed that you have a single cattle panel for your tomatoses. Then you cut the tops off. Would mind explaining that? I live on top of a hill with high winds (it picked up our trampoline and blew it 200+ feet). I had planned to tie my tomatoes to a tall t post and hten wrap it in some kind of welded wire. Your way looks much better. 🙂
QUESTION: I just watched a video on Justin Rhodes' channel called "Joel Salatin Teaches Us About Raising Rabbits". In Justin's video, Joel says you always move the buck to the doe. But in this video he says you always move the doe to the buck. Which is correct? Did Joel's advice change at some point?
I would like to clarify that i do often see 20 wild rabbits close together but usually that is the case when you are on the boarder of suburban areas and country likely they congregate in the safety of suburban areas yet it keeps them close enough to fields to do whatever rabbits do
Age of rabbits does not matter its about the size of the cages... in a 10×12 you will probably want to stack 3 high on the 12' walls probably 5 cages across 3 high =15 per side 30 cages total with a work bench in the back with storage below the bench. The babies stay with mom for weeks so you will have alot more than 30 rabbits even though you only have 30 cages.... don't fill all cages you need to calculate empty space to move moms out from babies after those few weeks of milking... Add good ventilation in such a small space... look for a roof vent that is solar powered they have setting to kick on at hi temperature automatically but you can also put it on a timer and every 15 minutes have it run for a few minutes....
@Donetravlin I'm not using cages to start with; cages will be available in about 1 year after I take off. I'm looking at an adapted colony system, using a well ventilated room of 12' × 10' with escape-proof sharp sand flooring.I So, with this viewpoint, like how many rabbits can a 12' × 10' rabbit tractor accommodate?
@@akinsDADA colony system.... I understand you can probably get 20 in there with room to get around play. You will want to focus on colony harmony.... eat any that are mean to others.
I find rabbits to be very easy to care for with low feed costs. Easy to breed, easy to process and have a market if you wish to sell live rabbits or their meat. The drawback is they are defenseless and subject to attacks from every kind od predator. The biggest threat where I am is the feral dogs. Worse than coyotes, mink, skunks, racoon & fox
After I raised up to 325k trading with her I bought a new House and a car here in the states 🇺🇸🇺🇸 also paid for my son's surgery (Oscar). Glory to God.shalom.

Another key point on rabbits: they have the best feed to meat conversion rate of any farm animal, at about 3 to 1!
Chickens 4:1
Pigs 6:1
Cows over 8:1

@@Mister_Underhill You can pasture rabbits too. Also, the conversion ratio doesn't change meaningfully, just the cost of the feed.

There's pros and cons to both. Imo, can't beat beef for health but rabbit makes for good filler, as does chicken, and pigs great for breakfast. 😊
In terms of meat, yes, but I'm yet to drink a good glass of rabbit milk, and I have certainly been looking
Rabbit manure is considered "cold manure" and makes for great soil rejuvenation! Rabbit 🐇

Always put the doe in the bucks cage ❤

What rabbit breeds do you recommend that are already genetically well equipped for grass.?
How tal is that cattle panel?
Thanks so much, sir.
Enlightening and Encouraging!
Please, sir, how many rabbits (3-4 months old) can I keep in a 10' × 12' facility?
