  • @ltpotter

Created a Google Sheets spreadsheet to track my time spent in certain categories (3 currently). 1 Second = 1 Experience point. I'll write down each minute spent in whatever category I work on then the cell next to it represents total minutes times 60 and that equals your experience earned. Example of system: you read for 30 minutes, multiply that times 60 to get your experience earned, 1800 exp. Next step is to set up an exp/level threshold so I can keep track of my level lol. Going to gamify this hard ngl. I was always proud of my Runescape levels, now time to build pride in my IRL skill levels.

    • @bloodhooded
      @bloodhooded 3 года назад +3

I think Oblivion system is better here, no thousands of exp but levels of a skill, and then when you level multiple skills a bit, your stats naturally grow and you level up, also in TES games (Skyrim and such) you level up skills by grinding them, so like in real life!

In real life you've a mind connected to your character.

RuneScape taught me so much about life. My thing was cutting wood and selling it on the market in world 1 or 2 (before the bs exchange). Then I started merchanting wood for a quick turn around in profit. My favorite thing was to cut wood though. I used to watch naruto on the side and just watch my money pile up. I’d just have to avoid the pesky tree when I pissed it off. I’ve played many games since then but none of them have been as good as RuneScape. Now I’m in my early 30s, finishing up med school and very thankful for the lessons I learned back then. Patience, hard work, perseverance. Cheers and thanks for a trip down memory lane.

Another element (related to what you mentioned) that makes it way easier in games:
You immediately see the progress in the form of gaining XP, in contrast to a task like studying.
When you're studying you're not seeing a target value of the knowledge required for that subject, and not seeing the current amount increasing in such a fast rate. And then there's also the question is if you will remember it for the test.

One of the biggest lessons i've taken from video games in general, there is so much to learn through loosing and failure. I'm a massive fan of Soulsian games, despite the taglie of 'ohhhh its hard prepare to dieeee!', they are not hard games once you realise that your loss is 100% on your actions (ignoring glitches).
You healed and Ludex Gundyr side-kicks your hollow ass into the next age of light? Should have dodged. Took one to many swings at a boss and you died? You got greedy. Patience is one of the biggest virtues those games have taught me (or tried to!), within the game you're just some hollow or ashen one or nameless hunter, but you can kill gods if you keep on coming back again and again and again....
6:18 That's hilarous, I also wanted a Tyranitar amazingly bad. I still remember when my dull looking Pupitar finally became this bad ass pokemon. I had the same experiece with getting a Salamance in Ruby as well becuse of how awesome it looked. Nostaligia is a hell of a drug kids.
On another note, Yakuka 7 is just this trope writ large and it's a pretty great game, with plenty of Dragon Quest style gridning, great story and a hilarous main character. I'd reccommed you check it out when you have the time though Captain!
Awesome work as usual man, keep on being great.

skill- when i learn new skill i add 10 points to chart
(i even have sub skill section where i do daily task)
looks - when ever i clean my face, don't fap and eat healthy i add 0.25 points to chart
    after one month of grinding
    health-15.5 points
    strength-15 points
    skill-20 points
    looks-10 points

I was very lazy and never moved forward but when I set a goal to ride a 1000 kilometres on a bicycle I enjoyed it since like 75kms... The point having clear goal is really good, I also played Runescape and maxed several accounts.. watching the exps countdown is exactly the clear goal we should apply to your lives :) good video, thanks

Did you literally read the "Level Up" book series by Dan Sugralino? That's the whole real-life sci-fi premise!

    Book 1 - Re-Start
    Book 2 - The Hero
Book 3 - The Final Trial

Just came across this and it sounds really interesting and I have a really possible way to gamify my life after watching this, so I'm going to plan it out. It feels exciting. I'm really interested in how this experiment worked out for you?

Thank you so much for this dude. I really appreciate it because I recently started doing youtube videos. I find it hard to identify what my main quest would be... could it be my career? Or more than that?
Also, I wanna ask where in the hero's journal do you log your grind work minutes? Is there a section for it within the journal? I'm very interested in buying it myself. Thanks!

Nikhil, I have been here since 30k subscribers and it is so good seeing you level up video by video. Watching your videos have made me better, they are so relatable, the fact that you give a no bullshit guide to life's quest and the same time produce funny and entertaining content is why you're one of my favourite RUclipsr. I discovered so many other great people like David Goggins, Jordan Peterson just because of your skits, and just when I was feeling badly motivated about how I was ever going to loose my weight I saw your video on 'a lot can be changed in 3 months' and after that I have been running 6 kilometres every single day, practising No F, and I really feel at my best ever, these small incremental changes really do have compounding effect, and the proof is right in front of my eyes as I have seen your videos improve with every upload.
    Cheers

I've actually spent fat hours grinding in Stick RPG as a kid. The worst part was that the website I played on didn't have save option, so every day I would start from scratch and still enjoy it :)

The problem with life I've tried doing this is that nothing ever goes as planned you do a bunch of tedious tasks to get the job you want and it doesn't work now what do you do well now you're depressed and you didn't just waste a couple hours you wasted a couple years that's the difference

I'm doing the same sort of thing but with exp and levels for each. I know that these "skills" are habits I want forever so I don't need to worry about leveling down. I'm gonna try to model the level scaling after runescape where it takes like 300 hours to get to a high level.

What i remember: i have to go sell some cocaine!
Great video, have my whole life gamefied and it is amazing. Shit gets Done. My daily routines are now daily Quest. I have weekly Quests. I have a talent tree in:
Sports, carreer (and education) and relationships.
I have a reward system and a punishment system(if i fail to do a certain task within a certain time period)
My rewards are things that make the thing i'm doing more easy.
Example: if you eat healthy all week, u get a reward, But giving myself the reward of a cheat meal would be counterproductive. So i get myself something that marginally makes eating healthy easier.

Finding a "master' and a purpose is one of the best things that you can get from life. If there is no purpose, life seems a bit empty. Without a master, there is a lot of hard work and time that will gladly substitute it.

You have the perfect channel. RuneScape will always have a place in my heart that brings back wonderful memories. I struggle with grinding in life, but gamifying the grind can help substantially. I was considering starting a RUclips channel similar to yours but there’s no way I could do it as productively as you lol.

Yeeee, it's super easy to be motivated in-game because You have a clear path, and You are guaranteed to get a reward if You stick to it, aaaaand it doesn't regress back... In life, it works, but You have way more chaos that distracts and sometimes everything seems meaningless because we can't stop. The regression and the eventual death - it's pretty hardcore when You putting things into perspective and can be demotivating for many (or very motivating). While in-game on the other hand You immerse into a different reality where You trick Yourself to be immortal and all the progress is always there.
Though then again, through spirituality You kinda achieve the same feeling, as Soul or Consciousness collecting experiences learning lessons of this reality and the progress is always there - somewhere.
Anyway, great video as always, many nostalgic little clips! :)))
