Went to Hamburg for the Meet&Street arranged by the Hamburg street photo collective. The weather forecast told me it was going to be Niagara falls. So, I took only waterproof boots. Big mistake. No rain, only sun, and extreme pain in my feet
No other city compares. I love seeing people, especially other photographers, come here for the first time. That sense of bewilderment is a good reminder of how lucky those of us that shoot here year round are.
Just incredible! I hope you don’t mind me saying as I’m an old chap, that in later years I honestly believe the friends and other photographers in New York will hold so much more personal value. I honestly loved every minute and feel this has been my favourite watch this year 👏
So nice you got to go to New York. I’ve never been there and I only live 7 hours away from there. I live in a small city Erie Pa. Glad you enjoyed your visit and hope that I could visit London someday.
I just came back from the USA, having been to NYC and Boston/Massachusets - not only for photography, but also for. And seeing this video, I remembered a lot of scenes I've seen - and love your images of this crazy place. So thank you so much!!!
Great video, and glad you spoke up about shoes, and how many steps someone can get in on a single day of exploration. Love Portra , whenever I see photos from that film , especially city imagery, it always feels like going back in time to the 80s/90s nyc. The nostalgia.
I've been to NYC a bunch of times, but never since I've been into street photography. I've been dying to go back. It's fun to see anyone's first reaction to how insanely huge everything is there.
I think about this alllll the time.. I went New York in like 2019 or 2020.. did all the sites.. took a bunch of photos but I wasn’t really into street then.. feels like such a missed opportunity.. and I don’t think imma be going there anytime soon
I really enjoyed this video. New York is my absolute favourite place in the world, what a beautiful, exhausting visual treat. This video totally captures what I love about this city.
Great times! I have been fortunate enough to have been in the city a dozen times or so, and concur that it's definitely a photographers dream trip. You hit all the highlights and your output was very productive. Well done!
Watched this from beginning to end (twice). Wow is all I can say. Would be a dream for anyone and more importantly you got to spend it with quality like minded people there which is a bonus when going around a big city. Great tips in between and the places that you checked out were awesome. On top of all of that the photos were winners even when you think you didn't get the best. One of the best youtube videos I've seen this year, seriously.
I’m literally in the airport on the way back home. I just did my dream NY trip for photography too! The feeling here is crazy and the photo opportunities are unlimited. Also what you said about the feeling of this city is sooo true. It can’t be described!
That was such a awesome video!!. I will probably never see New York for a week. However, your video took me for the experience through you guys. Great Job guys!!
How New York feels is as unique as the residents. For me it is like being wrapped in a warm comfortable blanket. For some people it is exciting, for some overwhelming. Also, there are completely different vibes in different neighborhoods. Looks like you enjoyed yourself, nice shots.
Loved this video! It is a dream for me to go and visit and shoot NY, so I'm really happy for you you got to do this! You got some really good shots there, with a real NY vibe to them yet they are refreshing, well done! 👏
Incredible shots as always! I moved to NY about 3 years ago and it's a dream to just spend the day walking around and photographing, sometimes I feel like I take it for granted. Your shots re-energized me to get out again as soon as possible.
Great stuff, seeing NYC through travelers lens makes me appreciate it more - when you live somewhere you start to take it for-granted. I gotta say though, while you guys were experiencing the absolute worst humid heatwave of the northeast summer, I was in London for the first time, enjoying absolutely incredible weather, 20 celsius and sun :D ... (and the city of course, what a treat).
Leica MP - my absolute dream camera. Got mine about 6 months ago and it's glued to my neck ever since. Great photos, great video, great vibes Mike 💯. I am a big fan of your channel! Cheers from Germany
I almost got one from Germany.. Logistics and the seller NOT knowing if there would be any duties due got me nervous. I was able to find one here in the states.
@@MikeChudley thanks for replying! I really did love this video and all the photos you took, it really captured the life of ordinary people in New York everyday and the beauty of it! :)
Just got around to watching this Mike - really enjoyable video ! May I ask - in London now quite a few friends who shoot Leica have become somewhat anxious due to thieves moving from targeting expensive watches to targeting Leicas, and they are covering up the red dot or even leaving their Leicas at home. Did you ever feel anxious about walking around with your Leica in NYC? Also any confrontations with folks not happy to have their photo taken?
hey, thanks for watching - a few friends have seen mobile phones get stolen in LDN but never a camera. (not saying it doesn't happen) but I don't worry about it. My camera is insured if worse comes to worse. I've personally never been confronted or felt unsafe at all. Obviously common sense is required. But no, I have zero issues with safety carrying my camera around.
@@martinpickard5818 some obvious choices are brooklyn (dumbo, bushwick, downtown promenade area, prospect park), queens (LIC, flushing, astoria) but also don't overlook jersey city (great skyline views). most of these place are 15-20 mins away from manhattan on the train.

Great vid and some cracking shots Mike, I'll have to stick NY on my bucket list! will never understand why some still love film though, each to their own I guess but it just seems so alien and a faff in this day an age.
It was very inspring video. I am going to NYC at 17th Aug for one week. It was my biggest dream of my life :) I also love photography and video and It will be much fun taking some pictures in NYC. Amazing video man, Love it!
one of your best videos 👍 thanks for sharing - would love to see a small note (subtitle) in your photos indicating focal length of the shots you are showing, would help us newbies ☺
Easily one of my favourite videos of yours! Incredible trip and photos, stoked to have my copy of the zine - would have been sweet if they were numbered. Mike, curious to know if you use zone focussing or if you focus every photo? Appreciate your work!
Thanks for ordering the zine, means a lot. I mostly focus for every photo but occasionally zone focus when the light is good and consistent. It just depends, a mix of both really.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Downtown Miami and Miami Beach, and San Francisco if you ever come back to the states. Miami and Miami beach you can do in 2-3 days. San Fran should have a few days. Trust me!
I’ve always been too scared to vocalise my thoughts about the Katz pastrami sandwich because of how many people hype it up. But I agree, it was just OKAY, it was kind of dry and needed a sauce of some kind. At first I was so excited to try it seeing how many people have suggested it and the line for it was insane. Glad I’m not the only one 😅
Thank you for this video. I was born & raised in NewYork City. I no longer live there. Will return the middle of September. NYC in the summer. Hot and muggy. Sometimes you can cut the humidity with a knife. Very expensive all the time. I try to avoid B&H and usually fail. An adult toy store. I rarely leave without buying something. Amazing that the Staten Island ferry doesn’t list when the tourists take pictures of the Statute of Liberty. Always a way to cool off during the summer. Did you walk the Bridge? The Brooklyn Bridge. Disappointed you didn’t do more subway photos. You stated you loved NYC. How does it compare to London? Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)
Really enjoyed the video - as close as I'd want to be to NY. I just can't imagine why anyone wants to shoot film in 2024 - so much hassle and expense. Digital all the way - and that's from over 50 years in photography and film for maybe 35 because I had no choice. Anyway however you get them the pictures were great. 👍
Great video, saving for later, if I go sometimes to NY. :) Interesting, how you are making video from actual photogrphy, you must still switching video-photo all the time :) I have question: As You are there for first time (I believe), did you make some plan, where and what you want to shoot? Like map pins, etc.? Thanks!
Good shoes are the number 1 thing that a street photographer needs. More important than choice of camera.
Absolutely, I learned this the hard way over the years haha
