my favorite thing about kenshiro is he doesn't let the shitty post apocalyptic world change his values, protecting the weak is one of the most admirable things a person can do. Also the fact that he cries and shows emotion, I dont know why but it fills me with a sort of comfort and makes him feel human despite how unrealistic the series is haha

Kenshiro is a beacon of hope in a hopeless world because he shows that you don't have to sacrifice your morals and values for power. He's also someone with great power who uses it to help others rather than help himself, it's inspiring.

Yo man this is a dope video man there are a lot of people who get Kenshiro's character all wrong. And say he's toxic masculinity obvious they haven't watched or read the series. Kenshiro came at a time when it wasn't ok for men to cry. And he showed it's ok for men to cry and show emotion and be kind and fight when needed.
I hope the series get a remake one day. Cause it's wild that people now of days look up to somebody like Yujiro Hama and say that's a real man.

Personally I think that Fist of the North Star is a masterclass in showing what true masculity should be and what it is not
Kenshiro, but also Toki, Shuu, and others, are great examples of positive masculinity (and I'm not talking about being super-jacked and kicking ass) in how they use their strength to protect those in need rather than for personal gain, in their willingness to make huge sacrifices for those they love, in the way they can embrace and display their emotions and be compassionate, and yet stern and decisive when needed. They differ from men like Shin or Raoh, who despite their potential allowed toxic traits to take over, believing that love or order could be achieved just through the display of brute strength.
And then of course there is the cautionary tales of the very opposite of masculinity in scum like Jagi, devoured by envy and bitterness, and the countless goons who do nothing but being driven by lust, greed and gluttony, acting strong against the weak but showing cowardice in front of real challenges, all of which find the miserable end they deserve.

As someone who had to deal with the identity of masculinity throughout my life I have to say it really fucked me up for the longest time. It really shows that Kenshiro is able to keep a balance between his hard and soft side, and shame on those who steer young men to idea of masculinity that would lead them to the wrong path. Also very nice video,

Splendid video, Kang. Masculinity, to me, is to show strength through character. Compassion is a strength. Emotions are a strength. Accepting and understanding those emotions in yourself and others can help you grow. There are times when you have to break down, and that is okay. It is okay to cry when you need to. It is okay to ask for help when you need it. You can lend others a shoulder to cry on, but do not be afraid to ask for the same. You only have one life, so live it without boundaries. Only you can decide how you live, no one else.
It took me years to learn that. I still have a lot to learn.

Fist of the North Star is honestly one of the best series out there and it teaches so many life lessons that modern society have sadly forgotten, and I say this as a transwoman that is still a fan of the series. Kenshiro, in my opinion, should be the inspiration for every person cause he exemplifies all good attributes anyone can show and time and time never gives into negative traits that the villains have fallen into, such as uncontrolled anger, vanity, jealousy, hatred, and the desire to hurt those around them. Not to mention that Kenshiro in a metaphorical sense defeats the main villain of part 2 with the power of love.

I think you hit a nail on the head. Masculinity is going to be so different from person to person and our ideas might be different but the biggest part is being there for others and being there for yourself.
Look up re-parenting, you'll get what I mean. And while it mostly deals with relationships both familial and romantic, "The Will to Change: Men, Masculinity, and Love" by bell hooks really shifted how I look at masculinity and my interactions with women and men in my life.

Kenshiro gets most of his qualities from Toki, his humane brother who only kills with a merciful fist. Same guy that literally sacrifices himself to keep Kenshiro alive during the nuclear attack.

True masculinity is only the purest from of humanity for men.
The pinnacle of this is Jesus Christ and in anime Kenshiro or Jonathan Joestar, etc.

Old, Crusty ass, Alpha male n****s. That's... Probably the best way to describe them sometimes🤣🤣. A while back ago, i was watching Baki, and i got to that episode where Kozue was having coffee with Ali Jr. And i don't recall the exact line but, she said something along the lines of "that just doesn't sound very manly." Even though it was just a simple phrase it had me thinking: what does it mean to be man, then? I know that a true man isn't some lecherous asshole that treats women like garbage, i know that a real man doesn't always have to resolve everything with his fists and to be honest, i had me questioning whether i, met the standards of what it means to be a real man. I don't expect anyone to understand this sentiment but... At the end of the day i just want to be the man that God, wants me to be and i gotta admit, this video helped put things in perspective and it allowed me to perceive the character in a completely different light so, thank you for this video, it helped.

As someone who is going down the route from masculine to nonbinary, this is the kind of attitude I want to carry from before. I was AMAB, and I embraced it as best I could. I grew up in a sort of heterodox Christian fundamentalist cult, a Mormon. Sex and gender are rigid up to and including their cosmology.
And slowly I began to realize I wanted out. Out of the religion, the guilt, the toxic masculinity, and the lies. I wanted to be more than just a soldier, just a servant of blind faith. I wanted to shrug of the disparity and inequality I was raised to believe in.
Mormonism is just American Exceptionalism/Imperialism- The Religion. The most powerful war machine on the planet is the USA. And I refuse to be a part of blessing, excusing, and sanctifying the system that generates so much imperialism and exploitation in the name of profit.
Plus there is the whole history of the Abrahamic God, YHWH, as a Canaanite god of war and destructive flash floods who became a bandit god during the Bronze Age collapse, much like Durga and the Thugee in India (a concept popular in British fiction since the British Raj, see Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom for an inaccurate pastiche derived from that culture). The later portrayal of YHWH as recorded in the Old Testament is a blending of YHWH with the king of the Canaanite gods named El-Yah. If you have heard the term Elohim before it literally means “Those of El/Children of El” aka the Canaanite pantheon.
It is funny how Jesus came to fight against the very things YHWH stood for, and yet to this day the biggest Christian institutions side with empire and war and patriarchy. YHWH grins, Jesus weeps, and El is a flayed skin upon YHWH’s face who cannot cry or scream despite his aching heart.
YHWH is everything I hate about the masculinity I was taught. I want to be a gardener, a protector, a lover, a builder. My inborn strength is not to conquer or to steal or to intimidate.
I was born a man. I am now going onward to something that is, for me, more. I do not know what that will be yet, but I will carry and cultivate the goodness I learned from being a man with me. I will cry. I will ask for and accept help. And I will build. And I will endure. And I will have joy.

Honestly, I just put in this way. Too many people sell bravado is if it's masculinity, this is just pride and ego if you'd ask me to describe it.
It's like the kinds of people that talk about if they have the right to do something and not if it's right for them to do it. Obsession with the what, and no care over the why and how. That's a recipe to make anybody miserable imo.
Then again I'm the type of person that says be yourself but be the good parts of you before else. You'll be a lot happier with yourself that way. I think kenshiro is a great example of being that.
