How to Diagnose & Troubleshoot a Motherboard Issue. Smashed iPhone 11 Pro Max Data Recovery Attempt

This iPhone 11 Pro Max came in to my shop for Data Retrieval. The phone was smashed really bad & the motherboard looked warped.
So how do we go about diagnosing the problem & how do we troubleshoot it?
First step is always checking the current consumption before prompt to boot & after prompt to boot.
In this case, we first found no current draw before prompt to boot. This means there's no short on VDD MAIN, VDD BOOST and Batt VCC.
Then we go through prompting to boot, which is where I found a 0.470A (470mA) short AFTER prompt to boot.
Using the Seek Compact Pro thermal camera, we saw some heat towards the middle of the motherboard, but no obvious "hot spot".
So I then split the sandwich using the i2С T20 Heater using 200C.
I inspected the CPU & found a suspicious line running across it.
Checking it again under the thermal camera, we spotted some heat directly on the CPU. This is BAD.
Sadly, it seems like the RAM and possibly the CPU is damaged & without the CPU being good, there's no way to get data.

Use reverse lead diode check for the following areas:
PP1V1_S2
PP1V8_S2
PP0V6_VDDQL_S1
If you have a short here you have a DDR RAM issue
Not sure about PP_SRAM_S1 should measure around 0.040 but could be either a SOC or RAM issue, if shorted.
PP_SOC_S1 (normally will read low but not a short)
PP_CPU_ECORE (normally will read low but not a short)
PP0V8_SOC_FIXED_S1
PP_DCS_S1
PP_CPU_PCORE (normally will read low but not a short)
PP_GPU (normally will read low but not a short)
You have a SOC damaged.

Jesse, do you have a video of how to interpret power supply meter readings. As in which readings means what - when a phone is put on a power supply... how to interpret the different meter readings on before and or after prompt to boot. If no video yet, please make us one.

Weird that all the pads are intact! None of them are broken! Looks like the 2 boards were separated before!

Yeah i was surprised by that as well. Although this was for sure a virgin board. There was no signs of flux on the sandwich and all the foam was original & not warped
