You are right. This has to be in the top 10 finals performances of all time in BHS history. It's 2023 and I still get pumped up about this performance like it's first time. That set, which included Somewhere from West Side Story right after this song, was masterful.
Gary Lewis picked up a 3rd place bronze this year with Quorum as the bass. Trying to become the first man to win quartet gold on three different voice parts.
What a great quartet wow. So fun to watch. Tony is a barbershop legend, Greg's tenor voice floats lightly above the lead, lots of support from Jeff as a dark-timbred bass, and Gary has to be one of the best baritones ever with his ability to blend but also add so much colour. Awesome, hope to be like these guys someday!!!
I’ve heard people hate on Tony being a lead (ridiculous right?), but I think Tony sounds just as good on lead as baritone. He’s got the personality and sweet sound of a lead yet like a baritone he can fill out a chord. I love anything by Tony really. He’s just an awesome singer all around. He can’t do wrong
I thought that was Tony, but I wasn't entirely sure because he has lost so much weight. Still, even being relatively new to this, I can tell that Tony is almost, if not the best, barbershop member in the Society
NF4: Constantly insults the judges - Didn't win Gold Max Q: Called themselves losers and the judges winners - Won Gold I'm beginning to see a pattern...
I always wondered what "Max Q' was... "The point of max q is a key milestone during a rocket launch, as it is the point at which the airframe undergoes maximum mechanical stress." lol ;D

By the way, I'm procrastinating on studying right now. Yeah... Edit (post-exam): Yeah I did horribly (I'm 100% sure) and I'm just not going to check my grade.
The same. This group was his third gold medal, Main Street his fourth. (He won his first two as a bari with Joe Connelly on lead both times, hence the joke toward the end.)
(Also, Roger was tenor on Tony's first winning group and Gary was tenor on Tony's second win, hence the joke about Greg being at fault for the silvers, since he was the only one in this group not to win quartet gold previously. In reality, Greg is the director of the Vocal Majority and has 13 chorus golds; his 14 total are the most in history.)
I just researched "Elvis Presley Jelly Donuts" and some news came up saying that he did an advertisement for a brand titled 'Doughnuts (Southern Maid)' in 1954 and also says that jelly donuts were his favorite. So I believe that's why.

So barbershop quartets moved around to different groups? Doesn't that make practicing difficult? Not to mention remember which song is with which group?
Once a quartet has won the gold, they can't compete as a quartet any more. If the individual singers want to compete again they have to form a new group. So it seems like many good singers are "serially quadogamous". ;)
I'm kind of new to the whole barbershop thing...but this seems like it's gotta be one of the most overall entertaining performances of all time.
you should see FRED.
.............and Main Street, and Lunch Break, and Storm Front, and..........
and NewFangled Four!
And Platinum

If they wouldn't have lost those three times we wouldn't have gotten this gem.
Gary Lewis was my choir teacher, he's a terrific, kind teacher!
Wow! I bet!
Where was your choir?
You mean Perry?
@@emilciapaa9077 I think “perry” is the Tenor, lol. Gary Lewis is the Bass
@@nathanielmyers6742 I was referring to the joke with baritone's name. And it's Gary Lewis - first guy from the right.
488/500 in presentation for this song. Highest score for one category on one song that I can find.
jesusthroughmary platinum got a 489 in presentation for “Cuddle up a little Closer”
jesusthroughmary actually also, Storm front got a 492 on presentation for jukebox Saturday night

That octave between Gary and Jeff on the lasts chord is deadly, man

ahem. he did it. :)
@@ryandigney4703 Glorious, now he can go for the Grand Slam with a new quartet where he is on lead

Arguably the best barbershopper singing right now, if not the best of all time.
Two golds on each voice part proves you correct.
Agreed. Totally agreed.

The thing a lot people don't realize about Tony DeRosa is his ability to sing tenor when necessary

Did you watch the BHS Awards show on Monday night? NF4 finally won!
No I didn't, but I saw they were nominated. I commented that 2 months ago though, and it was a joke.
@@drkyrehuh what did they win?
4 years later: they finally medalled!!
4:08 lord have mercy I don’t know how to describe that sound but it was nothing short of amazing
The most that a barbershop quartet can do to sound like a full jazz band
I wish I paid attention to this sooner 💈🤘🤌
This is Greg's first and to date only quartet gold, but he has all 13 of Vocal Majority's chorus golds

Second place for three years in a row? I'd say they chose an appropriate name.
Yes
I remember watching this live. Still amazing to this day
Did they win with this song? I always wondered if they knew they’d lose and vvc prepared it for the night show. But I guess this was in the package?
Is there anything better in barbershop? Have watched this probably 50 times and I just don't think so. My favorite!
two people clicked dislike, it's OK, we all make mistakes

Joe Connolly shout outs everywhere! He’s the best ever
Interesting how this isn't as popular as other singers. These guys can actually, sing, no autotune required.
Jeff Oxley sounded very dark in Acoustix.. in maxq he sings more lightly.
Yeah, it's fun to see him having fun in this group. I love Accoustix, but they sang more seriously.
Chills every single damn time
Really well done! Tony is so hilarious!
beautiful and fun. there is nothing quite like an oxley tag

How would people go about cheating in barbershop 😂
