barbershop quartets are such a treat to listen to. such a shame they are not as popular as they used to be. the harmonies are so tight. any group that can sing with tight harmonies as good as this; its a damn shame they dont get noticed. better than the singers nowadays cuz they can actually SING.
Caroline, your father is one heck of a singer. I talked to him at a show in San Antonio Texas and he was very friendly. Sometimes you would think he's auditioning for the role of the music man that Robert Preston played.
I was lucky to see this performance live from Anaheim, CA. I was 12 at the time. Still remember this performance as it was a favorite. Also met Dick Van Dyke here as well! Great memories!
I agree with you totally David BIGd Arruda and David Martinez. This quartet is really amazing. I am 82 y.o. and had the privilege of listening other very good quartets like the "ancient Barbershop Southern USA quartet" 1935-194some.
this is a masterpiece. the beauty, the art, the sound, the style, i mean this is perfection. wow. thanks guys. i would love to see them!!! come to chicago
David, cada día hay menos gente que sepa apreciar lo bueno, sobre todo lo antiguo bueno y valioso. I hope you read an understand Spanish. If not, just let me know it.
So i just picked up the two disc set of Putting the HA in HArmony and there's this song called "Top Ten Parody". I'd really like to see the video of this. Can anyone help?
Jacob Bankston Not unusual. Happens a lot. Once a quartet wins the International Gold Medal, their ineligible to compete as a quartet again, so members join another quartet so they can compete again. There are two current barbershoppers who have each won International Gold medals with four different quartets.
Can someone explain to me why the lead is wearing that thing on his head, and what it has to do with Platinum? Is it is just supposed to be like the lead of Platinum's hair?
Boris Van Druff In terms of sound, I really do like Joe (especially in Keepsake), but to me, Rick is a better quartet member and has better blend as a singer... He is obviously a freakin' killer lead. FRED sounds SO dang good in this video. Their blend is crazy. ...so I'm not disagreeing with you. 😉
Clay Hine was my director at the Big Chicken Chorus during this time. He was awesome, and an incredible arranger as well, doing most of the music for our chapter and others. His dad was at the Stone Mtn. chapter for years.

I can't stop watching this. Years later I watch it over and over again and I've never met these fine gentlemen. I hope one day I can
"In first or in last, we'll have a blast"
Words to live by right there!
yep, instant goosebumps
When that hat came off The Pond just exploded. An unforgettable night.
I've watched this 100 times. And it gives me the goosebumps each time. It's pure art. It's genius. It makes God smile I'm sure of it
I'm certain that if, as a child, I could have imagined God smiling while listening to barbershop harmonies, I wouldn't be an atheist today😊🎶😉🎼
FRED is a fantastic blend of comedy and tradition. True talents
I would have killed to see these performances live...
This was the last convention Bill and I attended before he became ill. We were so thankful and proud of Fred. It made our last journey complete!
betty bryson
rip Bill
Jesus that lead note in 4:15 is actually ridiculously GOOD
Perfect
I mean, they won the world championship, they must be half decent singers
Rick had some serious vowel!
I'm 15 and I love this kind of music.
Yeah well I'm a fetus and I like this kind of music
I was part of a barbershop chorus in the late 90's and early 2000's and we had Fred as the guest quartet. They were awesome!!!!!!!
i love this music too even though i was born into. so proud of my dad (tenor) hes in a new quartet singing bass!!
@George Manson she was talking about Boardwalk.

I remember the time they were the teaching quartet for lakeside harmony camp at Clemson before it left Dixie district they are so awesome
Fred sold me when I ist heard them sing I’ve got rhythm out of sinc
wonderful rendition/parody of the VM"wholl take my place"
Nothing like a fkn RUclips advert right in the middle!
I LOVE the one where they make fun of all the other winning Quartets!! A real HOOT!!!
This quartet actually sings a purer form of barbershop than the others - I don't detect that flat lead sound.
i am under the direction of clay hine and he sings in a quartet named a mighty wind now and the are just as amazing
FANTASTIC use of bell chords!!!
The most famous burp in Barbershop competition history
The overtone on the last chord!! :D
I'm in heaven, 9:14

From 3:30 - 4:21. Can't tell you how many times I replayed that. Heck! Can't tell you how many I restarted this video!
So good to see such a funny and talented group win 1st
Loved seeing these guys perform! I miss it greatly!
The world needs more of this. Thanks guys! Amazing. Genius. Beautiful. Wow!
Simply beautiful.
I played Bioshock Infinite and now I can't stop looking up Barbershop Quartets.
You should look up a chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society near you!
Welcome to the rabbit hole that is barbershop!
Also, the quartet in Bioshock Infinite is A Mighty Wind, now defunct. The former members now sing in Category 4 and Throwback.
7 years later I respond....the guy on the far left is in that recording on Bioshock Infinite.
Not sure how I got here, but I'm happy I did :)
Jarrod: I got it, I got it (burp)
Best ninth chord ever at 3:41
Love you, FRED!!!
so, so good
forever a FRED groupie
FRED Rules!!!!
WOW!
quite a treat!
Proud to be the 1000th Like.
I love this so much
this is a masterpiece. the beauty, the art, the sound, the style, i mean this is perfection. wow. thanks guys. i would love to see them!!! come to chicago
this is so fantastic :D I can´t even belive, how awesome they are...
i NEED that baritone part
Amazingly entertaining group! Thanks for posting.

I’m addicted! “…He’s underwearless” is as good as any G&S line.
Anybody know where we can get copies of their whole performances?
I WANTED CONNELYS BACK IN TOWN LOL
There is video of that here on RUclips.
I would like to get this on Amazon Music. Anyone know how to find it there?
So i just picked up the two disc set of Putting the HA in HArmony and there's this song called "Top Ten Parody". I'd really like to see the video of this. Can anyone help?
The baritone in this is the baritone in A Mighty Wind, which is the quartet that sings in Bioshock Infinite. Just sayin' :]
Jacob Bankston Not unusual. Happens a lot. Once a quartet wins the International Gold Medal, their ineligible to compete as a quartet again, so members join another quartet so they can compete again. Why aren't these guys more famous?
From 7:17-7:50 - they wound up getting their wish! 😁😂
@Hensleyist if you're talking about 1999, it wad them
Is there a single FRED song in which the tenor doesn't fall over?
FRED is the goat!
What's the first song's name?
That burp into the mic will never not make me laugh
I don't think they're together anymore.
My fave moments are 2:32 8:02 8:32 8:54 and 9:05
7:34 !!!
wait these guys havent won the past three years? what the hell could beat their act?
+who8mahbacon Once you win you can't enter with the same quartet.
+Alexander Nash The Gas House Gang won in 93 & 94 and Boston Common won 74, 75, 77, 78, 79 & 80 all with the same quartet...
+Brandon Williamson that was just a joke from their song, the gas house gang and boston common only won once...
@@ryanlimpus9202 Someone did not get a joke.
Too funny
For 99% of the first song I thought that the tall guy was the bass
Can someone explain to me why the lead is wearing that thing on his head, and what it has to do with Platinum? Is it is just supposed to be like the lead of Platinum's hair?
Yes. It is poking fun at Joe Connelly's hair
Well-deserved fun; his hair was ridiculous 😂
ha ha...6,900:)
Rick was a better lead than Connelly. Fight me.
Boris Van Druff

Lol
He hasn't jinxed it. It is still dislike-free.
the tall bass guy is super hot hot hot
He’s the baritone the one next to him is the bass
Clay Hine was my director at the Big Chicken Chorus during this time. He was awesome, and an incredible arranger as well, doing most of the music for our chapter and others. His dad was at the Stone Mtn. chapter for years.
Too bad they did no gospel. Great sound.
it's bill nye
Because Ke$ha exists.
or Sheldon Cooper...
(same thing, right?!) :)
why would you jinx it??? NOOOO!!!!!
Creepy
This is why I left the society. I'm the asshole.. But I expect perfection...and humility.
Because a majority of people have either shitty taste in music, or no concept of music whatsoever.
