Stephen King said Michael Clarke Duncan was the pure embodiment of John Coffey a huge man who was so gentle and kind. The role truly took a toll on Michael Clarke Duncan who could be seen down by the river crying most days. He was taken way toovsoon and he should have won the Oscar he was nominated for for this role. Rest in peace.
@@V0ltron King was also very critical of Kubrick for his adaptation of "The Shinning". So you can take from King that he is very honest about how he feels about his adaptations. For him to say that MCD fit the image of his creation to a T...it's pretty profound. And as I rewatch with Amber and Jordan...it's like the planets aligned and MCD was born for this role.

I have a very personal connection to this beautiful film. My best friend worked on the production crew, and when the film wrapped, he brought me one of the square lime green tiles that made up The Mile as a souvenir, which I have to this day. A year later, that same friend invited me to the cast and crew screening of the film, where I met director Frank Darabont, Michael Jeter (Del), David Morse (Brutal) and the Big Man himself, Michael Clarke Duncan (John Coffey). After the film, seeing I was an emotional wreck and my bloodshot red eyes, Michael Clarke Duncan gave me a big bear hug and told me "it's okay, big men can cry, too". A few years later, I was at our local park with my 5 year old daughter and we ran into him walking his dog. My daughter ran to pet his pooch. I reminded him of our previous meeting, and he remembered. Then he picked my daughter up and gave her a big hug. Full circle. Both my friend and MCD passed away several years later, and they were both taken far too soon And to this day at 57 years old, I still bawl like a baby everytime I see this film.
I've shed tears during movies, but The Green Mile is the first time I've ever full out sobbed uncontrollably. Duncan gave such a heart wrenching preformance. He really should have won the Oscar for this movie. I still cry every time I watch it.
It’s hard not shedding tears watching this movie tbf. You’d have to be a sociopath not to feel any emotions. I would definitely be suspicious of anyone who gets through it without needing a tissue.
Fun fact for you guys.. Michael Clarke Duncan the man that played John Cofee, got this role because of Bruce Willis. Michael told the story of how he met Bruce Willis. Michael was on the set for a movie Called Armageddon. And while he was there, Bruce Willis's people made an announcement to the cast and crew that when Bruce got to the set no one was to bother him and stay out of his way. So that's what Michael did. Every time Bruce would come around Michael would avoid him. Bruce noticed it. Then one day Bruce came to him and asked him " Why does he always walk out of the room whenever he comes in?" Michael told him what he had been informed to do and this was his 1st big movie gig and he did not want to cause any problems so he was just doing as he was told. Bruce told Michael that he doesn't mind anyone coming up to him. If Michael wanted to talk to him, it was just fine. Then he told him, "In fact, why don't we be best friends". And from that day forward they were best friends. Then Bruce told him he knew of a movie that was looking for someone like him and Bruce made a call and told them about Michael. I have to disagree @rileyandmike. In the beginning they were unsure of what to say and do but now you see who they really are...they have grown into this very well.
Something a lot of people overlook... The average lifespan of a mouse (like Mr. Jingles) is 5-7 years. Mr. Jingles was first noticed when Paul was around 44 (no telling how old Mr. Jingles was at the time). Paul said that he was 44 when John was executed and was currently 108 (64 years had passed). That means that Mr. Jingles has lived about 9 times his normal lifespan. The average lifespan of a male is around 77 years. Imagine.... if Paul lives for the same 9 times a normal lifespan, he will quite possibly live to be around 693 years old. His Green Mile is very, very long.

What makes me cry when she says that line is John Coffey constantly reminds us that he's afraid of the dark, but this bit of dialogue let's us know that in order to save people like the warden's wife John has to wander thru that darkness to find them & save them, which is probably why he doesn't like the darkness in the first place. Can't even imagine what he's experienced in that darkness. Which makes me love him even more because he still chooses to go into that darkness to save people. Tears every time.

It was never mentioned in the film, but it's hinted at that the scars on Coffey's back were because he was a slave imported from Africa. He's been around for hundreds of years. If Coffey gave Paul just a small portion of his powers to live a longer life, imagine how old Coffey was himself. That was part of why he said at the end that he was tired of seeing people being ugly to each other. The book hints at him being an angel, I think he was placed on this planet hundreds of years ago as a guardian for humankind
The line where Del says he wishes he could have met everyone somewhere else makes me tear up since my grandfather died. After retiring from being a high school teacher and counselor, he started teaching GED classes in the local jail. At his funeral, several former inmates that he helped get out of a life of small time crimes showed up and told me “I just wish I could have met him somewhere besides the jail.”
Stephen King is one of the most gifted writers ever. He wrote both the Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile, and also Stand By Me. So many people focus on the horror that King wrote, but he's so much than that... a true master.
I definitely agree. I know that he's known as a horror author, but he writes heartwarming stories just as well. I also love that he tied in Coffey's healing abilities as being tied to the other psychic abilities he's written of in his other books like The Shining, and Firestarter. But, it's interesting to note that he purposely wrote John Coffey to be an allegory for Jesus Christ performing miracles to save the wounded and the sinners in this prison atmosphere.
I had the privilege of working with Director Frank Darabont on this film. It came directly on the heels of “The Shawshank Redemption”, another Stephen King story directed by Frank; originally known as the book “Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption”, a short story written by King. Darabont did such a fantastic job writing the screenplay for Shawshank that King began using Frank for many other stories-“The Green Mile”, “The Mist”, etc. Interestingly, up until about 2-3 weeks before principle filming was to commence here in Nashville, Darabont was unable to find anyone to fill the role of John Coffey; everyone from Shaquille O’Neal to numerous others wanted it; but then Bruce Willis and another friend of mine at Disney recommended Michael Clarke Duncan on the strength of his ability to cry in “Armageddon”. Frank was skeptical at first, but when MCD read for the role, he obviously absolutely nailed it and was nominated for the Best Supporting Actor award at the Oscars that year, losing to Michael Caine for “Ciderhouse Rules”. MCD and I became friends over the years, as he did several other films here in Tennessee. He was actually a very funny guy. We had some truly hilarious times together before his tragic and untimely death from a heart attack in 2012. BTW, due to Tom Hanks being 6’2” or so, and David Morse (who played “Brutal” the taller guard) being about 6’4”’, they had to put MCD on what’s known as an “apple box highway” to make him tower over the others to approximate a 7 footer. MCD was about 6’6” IRL. That’s why, when you see MCD walking flanked by the others, you never see a full body shot of him, just basically from above the knees. An extremely good man who sadly never got another role of the magnitude of this. Obviously Tom Hanks was just a great person to work with, along with the other cast and crew. I am a lucky lucky man to have worked w those folks. 🙂
Nice to hear from someone who worked with Frank on the film. The casting on The Green Mile was absolutely phenomenal!! Michael Clarke Duncan was unbelievably good and each actor played their role to perfection. I don't think I've ever seen a more universally-hated character than Percy. I've seen just about every reaction to the film on RUclips and it's remarkable how easily people get pulled into the story. It's a real testament to Frank (and Stephen King of course). Viewers start out saying, "I'm not sure if I can make it through a 3-hour film" and the next thing you know, the film is done and they've barely blinked the whole time (except to wipe away the tears). Congratulations on being a part of one of the greatest films of all time!
@@ckobo84 well I’m 6’1” (or was at the time…I think I’ve shrunk about 1/2” since then. Long time ago🙂) and standing next to him he consistently seemed to be about an inch taller than me. That was my recollection anyway. And in a photo w both of us in it he seems taller, too although that could be perspective as he’s slightly closer to lens than me.

Tom Hanks and Gary Sinise (Lt. Dan) were also in "Apollo 13" about the aborted 1970 space mission and the drama about getting them back safely. It's a great movie that should definitely be on your reaction list.
The cast was stellar. I remind my kids that when they really dislike a character it demonstrates what good actors they are. The casting was impeccable. I cry everytime.

John has the shine. Just like Danny in The Shining. Most of King's books are connected. The power his characters have are magical and divine. The Dark Tower series is the center of his universe that the rest of the stories branch out from.
The best thing about this movie is how well the actors performed their roles. Everybody hates Percy and Wild Bill but to inspire that much animosity from viewer says something about their acting abilities. The whole cast was just amazing and it's a shame we didn't get more from Michael Clark Duncan. He was awesome performer and from what I understand, an awesome person in his everyday life. So, RIP man. Thanks for leaving your mark on this world. 💜

Within the first 10 minutes, maybe even 5 minutes, I was sobbing. The only way I can describe the camerawork is interactive. It felt like one of those simulator rides. I had never experienced a movie like that before.
I was looking for this suggestion. Awsome acting and emotion in saving private Ryan. They made it through this and Halloween movies, they will be fine!
I think it was a kindness that John gave to the parents to allow them to think that he was the one that killed the girls because of the guilt they would feel if they knew that they welcomed the killer into their home and allowed him access to their girls.
Back during the depression of the 1930s there were several transient workers like Wild Bill. Young, single men, that could not get a regular job, who would travel the country, doing odd jobs for people, for their supper.

Different Seasons was an incredible collection of novellas. The Body, Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption, Apt Pupil (not as great a movie as it was a story but still decent), and The Breathing Method (more pedestrian horror but still good). Stephen King is sooooo much more than a horror author. He can make you care about characters like no one else.
It was so precious to see both of you grieving for John Coffey. It makes me feel like I know you a lot better now and it shows that you both have gentle spirits. That counts for a lot in this crazy, confused world.

Amazing reactions, you two! I was crying with you. I read the original book by Stephen King (when it came out a a serial novel - in small parts). Frank Darabont just took this already amazing story and brought it to a new level. Sam Rockwell played "Wild Bill" (he's an amazing actor) and Michael Clarke Duncan played "John Coffey" (RIP as he passed away in 2012). I'd like to recommend the movie "Hearts In Atlantis" which stars Anthony Hopkins (Silence of the Lambs) and Anton Yelchin. It's based on parts of the book of the same name by Stephen King. It's another emotional ride, as well. Not quite like this one, but my Mom always loved it. FYI...the scene w/John Coffey healing the warden's wife made me cry so hard as my Mom passed away last year to a brain tumor. I wish John Coffey could have been there for her, too.
Part of Hearts in Atlantis was filmed at a house close to where I lived. It was so neat to watch them filming when driving by! Steven King is an awesome writer and of course, the movies don't do the books justice, but even still the movies are great too!

Green Mile was released in 1999 which means it was up for Oscars in 2000 dudes! Michael Clarke Duncan was up against MICHAEL CAINE The Cider House Rules (Winner), TOM CRUISE Magnolia, JUDE LAW The Talented Mr. Ripley, HALEY JOEL OSMENT The Sixth Sense. Of these, i think Michael gave the best performance.
This is a masterpiece by the legendary Stephen King. His ability to transcend horror into soulful and thoughtful writing is just beyond. He’s my idol and this is just an iconic movie. You reacted the way we all did. Still do!
This might be the shortest 3 hour movie ever. It's so good that you don't notice the time. One of the few times that I've seen an entire movie audience cry at the same time.
MCD was masterful in this role, we lost a great one when he passed. As a side note, it has been theorized that John Coffey is a Messiah-like figure, and is a direct criticism of society, that we would see his miracles and crucify him again.
I saw this movie when it first came out. Watched it with my mom. I was a typical, angsty teenager, and at the time being "cool" meant being indifferent to everything and not caring or showing emotions. And that was always amplified when I was around my parents because of the complex and unjustifiable resentment teens in the suburbs always felt toward their parents. Boy, I sobbed like a damn baby right next to my mom. Threw all pretense out the window. I mostly held it together for the whole movie. And then John said "Don't put me in the dark. I's afraid of the dark." And the dam broke. Watching it now as an adult, I cry at so many parts. I'm not even a spiritual man. But everything about this film is so powerful. Great reaction, you two. Read the book. Stephen King is a phenomenal writer. Love and peace to you both.
@@clairash2004the book explains why the men were on death row. I read it after I saw the film. The convictions were justified except for John Coffey. I originally went to see the film after hearing the soundtrack. I knew with music that wonderful. The story would be wonderful.
Love this movie, the emotion, the lighter moments when Paul (Tom Hanks') wife said "It's true, when he came home that day he was all better" the loathing of Percy and the satisfaction seeing that he got his wish and went to Briar Ridge after all where they said his "cheese slid off his cracker" ... all my tears especially at the end and seeing Mr Jingles still alive. The guards didn't want John to die, he wanted to go because he was tired of people being ugly to each other. Brilliant casting. RIP Michael Clarke Duncan 🥰
Can't say enough about how heartfelt and real your reactions were. This is definitely one of the greatest films of it's era...and Hanks the actor to go along with it. Next Hanks movie should be either "Saving Private Ryan," "Castaway" or "Big."
My two cents (or in this economy, .37 of a penny) "Big" was not that good. Saving PR and Castaway epic ... a few other, good movies, but less known ... Money Pit and Splash.
The thing that I always found heartbreaking was that John Coffey had to go to death row to find and experience kindness and friendship. And that the first gifts he ever received were from his jailers’ wives. What an awful existence for such a profoundly good man. This movie is a masterpiece and the cast was incredible. Particularly, MCD who should’ve won the Oscar.

Lethal injection is the popular means of execution. However some states have started using the firing squad ( which is a faster way and more humane to do it. ) there are some states that actually still use the option of hanging.
Those insults by the parents of the two daughters is just another piece of the pain he feels - how much HATRED they have _because_ of how much they loved their daughters. That was the pieces of glass that he constantly felt and why he was willing to die.

I saw this when it first came out… I was 11. Was the very first movie that ever made me cry and I was inconsolable. 23 years later and it still does me in every time.
One of the most amazing movies ever filmed! The acting was unbelievable. Percy and wild Bill were acted so well! They played absolutely the most despicable characters perfectly! Not to mention the great protagonists! Great reaction!
Newly subbed, after watching your reaction to this movie. The book has more nuance, but the actors chosen for this film brought it to life, even as it brought tears. The effluvium exiting John Coffeys' mouth after a "healing" is the physical manifestation of the evil/sickness the person had within him. John Coffeys' initials are the same as another misunderstood healer from about 2000 years ago....
Despite seeing this a half dozen times, it's such a pleasure to watch others experience something that moves one to not just tears, but to the very depths of pain, empathy and wonder. This movie was a gift to us all. It was so well written, directed, acted... and an unforgettable triumph by all involved.
This is such an amazing , human story. If we all lived and treated each other the way John Coffey did, what a wonderful world it would be. He was simply an angel on earth. Executions now are almost always by lethal injection. It is much more humane,(edit) they receive a sedating drug that puts them to sleep and then potassium chloride that stops their heart. They drift off to sleep and never wake up. Some states give the inmates a choice of lethal injection or another form of execution. *Edit: in speaking about lethal injection I changed ‘completely humane’ to ‘much more humane.’ This is a sensitive and a serious subject and I think my comment may have been construed as harsh or hateful. I don’t want to see anyone suffer but even more for me I do want justice done. Justice for the victim and their family is my overwhelming concern.
I would encourage you to research further about the statement that lethal injection is completely humane. That was the intention when we adopted the method, but there is evidence to the contrary more recently. This movie will always be a favorite of mine too, though
@@angelalurtz3638 It’s a hard subject but if done properly, it’s a vastly different method than the chair or gas chamber. Sadly, the victims of the horrible crimes that put these criminals on death row didn’t have a choice. I simply pray we get it right. I feel the death penalty is necessary and with new investigative advances, especially DNA, also pray that mistakes aren’t made.

So long as the justice system is run by human beings, there will be mistakes, whether those are wrongful convictions or botched executions, it is a guarantee; even if we reduce the rates, they will invariably occur. It also costs more taxpayer money to execute a prisoner than it does to execute them. Not to mention the fact that the justice system here comes down harder on BIPOC people across the board, which means we both wrongfully convict and more strongly convict people of color more frequently. Do we want those numbers to also affect the people we are choosing to kill? A wrongful conviction can be overturned, but a wrongful execution never can be. Is it worth that risk? Look up current wrongful conviction stats for the US; we get it wrong a lot more than is openly acknowledged
@@angelalurtz3638 Because in the most heinous cases it’s justice. An eye for an eye. And please find unbiased sources for your facts. There is an agenda being pushed to keep minorities placated so they can be used for political control. I believe it over 50% of violent crime is committed by only 13% of the population and those are young black males. I don’t like it but that’s just the facts. We need to focus on the true causes of this, beginning with fatherless homes, and work to change it. Feeding a population lies about the big bad police that are only out to get them is just keeping them in a victimhood mindset. These POC can be successful and not end up as just statistics. I would gladly work with anyone to change this truth but it starts with the family and a strong moral, and IMHO a Christian commitment from parents. And in the case of a wrongful conviction, that’s why I say I pray. If you take this case by case, you can’t say that there is such bias in the justice system. Great reaction, read this book when it first came out. John is an empath and healer. He feels all the pain in the world and he can heal, but he can't resurrect the dead. That's why he says things like 'there might still be time' and 'it was too late'. If there's a spark of life, he can help. In the book you learn that Del murdered a young woman while very drunk. Trying to hide his crime he burned the body but set an apartment building on fire killing a number of kids. As horrible as his death was, it could be seen as him paying the price in such a way that it saves him from hell.
Wow now you've made an excellent point that I never realized until you just said that which is he never resurrected the Dead!! Now I have to rethink my thoughts that John Coffey was Jesus Christ because of the obvious parallel with the initials but also the different things that he's able to do!! One of my biggest clues, I thought, was after Paul asks John Coffey what should his answer be to God on Judgment Day when God asked "why did you kill one of my true miracles?" and John Coffey's answer was "you tell God the Father it was a kindness you did!!" My way of thinking, the only person that I really thought referred to God as "God the Father" would be Jesus!!
@@ernestortiz4555 That's the one thing I'd say the movie got wrong. It did very well at humanizing the inmates. So much so, however, that without any reference to their actual crimes, too many people come away from the film thinking their punishment was too much. John's case aside, the inmates along the Mile definitely deserve their conviction.
We present, Percy, a little psychopath and absolute coward, for whom the question of whether he should sit in the jail cell or not, is self-answered. A guy who, if he got into trouble, I would unfortunately be three minutes late to help. Unfortunately, I was busy hunting mice, but unfortunately I couldn't find them anymore. In the film, the Percy problem was well resolved. There's only one thing I can say about the film, outstanding. A film that really makes you think. Score 100/100
This has always been such a perfect movie. It is absolutely heartbreaking and heartwrenchingly beautiful. The casting and acting is perfection. This is one movie that can never be remade.
That last line "if he can make a mouse live that long, how much longer do I have" is, to me, the scariest line in movie history. Chills me to the bone everytime i hear it. There are fates worse than death.

I've shed tears and cried with every reactor who's watched this movie, but I think i've cried the most with you guys. This is one of those movies I feel everyone should watch at least once. It teaches the importance of having empathy and compassion. At least to me, that's what I get from it.

This was Michael Clark Duncan(John Coffey) first major acting role. I can’t watch this movie without crying every time. I’m very thankful that we no longer live in a time when people that are mentally disabled aren’t blindly found guilty just because they aren’t so easily understood. Amber I understand what you were talking about with your experience working with special needs kids. As a mother to a special needs child I’ve learned so much I’d say the two biggest things my daughter has taught me are 1: to be patient, I was never a very patient person prior to becoming a mother to a child like her, and 2: to look at the world and life with humor. I’ve found that sometimes the only way to get through the problems that come with being a parent to a special needs child is being able to find the humor in life because otherwise I would probably be curled up in a corner crying and screaming at the difficulties that being a special needs child’s parent aren’t fun I’ll tell you that. I also thank God that my daughter able to somewhat communicate and I remind myself that she could be worse off. I was very lucky to be able to get pregnant in the first place given that the day my doctor told me that I was pregnant I was also given my first cancer diagnosis. Thankfully I’ve now been in remission for 10+ years since my last diagnosis and my daughter turned 21 this year.
I do not want to refute you, nor 'rain on your parade', but a review of policing vids on YT shows that cops misjudge, over-react, & generally abuse the 'mentally-challenged time after time!
Never in my life would I know that one day I would be observing other people reactions watching a movie (movies). What is crazy is that I feel in love with these two darling’s reactions, they are so adorable, sincere and innocent. ❤
The actor that played John Coffey, Michael Clarke Duncan, was an amazing actor and an amazing person as well. My friend Linda was his personal assistant, and her husband Andy Straub worked on the movie The Green Mile as well. Michael was good to the crew of the movie, not all actors are, and Michael even thanked Andy during his acceptance speech when he won the Peoples Choice Award for I believe best supporting actor for The Green Mile. It might have been Talladega Nights because I know Andy worked with him on that movie as well. Either way he was gone much too soon. RIP
It's not just a movie, it's an experience. I've seen it dozens of times and it pulls my heartstrings everytime. A powerful lesson and reminder of the importance of empathy.

The movie Stand By Me is adapted from a Stephen King short story. The story was called "The Body," and if I remember correctly, was in the same book (Different Seasons, a collection of 4 short stories) as Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption. You may very well know all this, but you mentioned King's two other well-known non-horror adaptations, so I figured I'd round out the trifecta.
As an empath this movie hits so differently. I am so glad yall reacted to it. I cried with you. Both of you are amazing people. I love your channel! Love and light!

I can't begin to count the number of times I've watched this film, and yet I still cry every time during the horrifically botched execution and EVERY scene with Michael Clarke Duncan; even when watching the edited down reaction channel viewings. John is a "Sin Eater", similar to the Native American legends of healers who would take the illness onto themselves, and then puke them out, getting rid of the disease.

When my wife and I saw this in the theater, when the lights came on and we walked out, I turned to her and said "what a great movie. I'll never watch it again.". This was only the second time I went through this story, and I was glad to do it along with you two. My heart hurt knowing what you were going to go through, but in the end it is a masterpiece of story telling. Thank you again for sharing this with us. I'd recommend Cast Away as another great Tom Hanks movie if you ever get the change. As always, you're loved, and until next time.

I have only ever seen one film that I both liked (not happy like, just thought it was a good movie) and also never want to see again: Hayao Miyazaki's/ Studio Ghibli's Grave of the Fireflies. That's one I do *not* recommend to Jay and Amber. If they thought this movie broke their hearts they will just absolutely lose it with that one.
I was flat out watching her cry through my tears. The brilliant performances are not random, the script is not random, the end result is exquisite. This is why I generally follow actors with integrity, rarely disappointed and frequently changed, also I love a good cry, seems to clear a lot of crap.
When John smelled the grass at 46:00 that is exactly what it feels like to get your freedom back. I remember the day of being released and seeing a purple car on the way to the airport. It was the first time I saw purple in 6 years and it looked amazing. The funniest thing is that I now associate purple with a car instead of Prince 🤣🤣🤣
This movie was hugely impactful on me. It did a lot to change how I see the criminal justice system and capital punishment. It also humanized prisoners themselves. I think it's one of the reasons Green Mile and Shawshank are so often recommended together to people, on top of them just being good movies.
Two books that will also change your mind about the criminal justice system are Slavery by Another Name and Just Mercy. My mind was blown wide open🤯 after reading those two. A. I had no idea how all that stuff got started B. I can never ever see crime & punishments the same again.
I hate when people say “JuSt tELL eM hEs iNnOcEnT”. Death was the punishment at that time for black man raping a white woman. So many cases where people were convicted on the shoddiest of evidence. Even “forensics” isn’t as reliable as they make it out to be. They also only have one trial per 500 arrests/convictions. Most are pressured into plea bargaining. Juries still think cops never lie, if they were arrested they “must be guilty”, etc.. a man in Texas was executed for “setting a fire” on Christmas killing his kids. Those “arson investigators “ only need a GED and a weekend course. An actual phd of physics proved that they used old wives tales as “science”. Same with bite mark evidence. Even DNA and fingerprints. People automatically trust what they are told by the state.
I'm so glad you guys thought so much of one of my very favorite movies. It is my favorite Stephen King novel and was brilliantly written for screen, brilliantly cast and brilliantly acted. It's like the characters walked right out of the pages of the books and onto the screen, all of them. Sweet Michael Clark Duncan I absolutely fell in love with as John Coffey who I loved so much from the book. Yes, John was one of God's miracles on earth. Unfortunately, Michael Clark Duncan has passed and just like I cried like a baby in the movie I did when I read about it in real life. He was in a number of really good movies, many of them really funny. Michael was in Armageddon, and The Whole Nine Yards which is really funny. Great reaction guys! I've probably seen this 20 times and cried right along with you! Lol. I do every single time!
I agree with so many here about Michael Clark Duncan's portrayal of John. But I also believe that Sam Rockwell's portrayal of Wild Bill was amazing too. He was so good at playing someone most of us DESPISED.
Stephen King said Michael Clarke Duncan was the pure embodiment of John Coffey a huge man who was so gentle and kind. The role truly took a toll on Michael Clarke Duncan who could be seen down by the river crying most days. He was taken way toovsoon and he should have won the Oscar he was nominated for for this role. Rest in peace.

@@V0ltron King was also very critical of Kubrick for his adaptation of "The Shinning". So you can take from King that he is very honest about how he feels about his adaptations. For him to say that MCD fit the image of his creation to a T...it's pretty profound. And as I rewatch with Amber and Jordan...it's like the planets aligned and MCD was born for this role.

I have a very personal connection to this beautiful film. My best friend worked on the production crew, and when the film wrapped, he brought me one of the square lime green tiles that made up The Mile as a souvenir, which I have to this day. A year later, that same friend invited me to the cast and crew screening of the film, where I met director Frank Darabont, Michael Jeter (Del), David Morse (Brutal) and the Big Man himself, Michael Clarke Duncan (John Coffey). After the film, seeing I was an emotional wreck and my bloodshot red eyes, Michael Clarke Duncan gave me a big bear hug and told me "it's okay, big men can cry, too". A few years later, I was at our local park with my 5 year old daughter and we ran into him walking his dog. My daughter ran to pet his pooch. I reminded him of our previous meeting, and he remembered. Then he picked my daughter up and gave her a big hug. Full circle. Both my friend and MCD passed away several years later, and they were both taken far too soon And to this day at 57 years old, I still bawl like a baby everytime I see this film.

Fun fact for you guys.. Michael Clarke Duncan the man that played John Cofee, got this role because of Bruce Willis. Michael told the story of how he met Bruce Willis. Michael was on the set for a movie Called Armageddon. And while he was there, Bruce Willis's people made an announcement to the cast and crew that when Bruce got to the set no one was to bother him and stay out of his way. So that's what Michael did. Every time Bruce would come around Michael would avoid him. Bruce noticed it. Then one day Bruce came to him and asked him " Why does he always walk out of the room whenever he comes in?" Michael told him what he had been informed to do and this was his 1st big movie gig and he did not want to cause any problems so he was just doing as he was told. Bruce told Michael that he doesn't mind anyone coming up to him. If Michael wanted to talk to him, it was just fine. Then he told him, "In fact, why don't we be best friends". And from that day forward they were best friends. Then Bruce told him he knew of a movie that was looking for someone like him and Bruce made a call and told them about Michael. And the rest is history.(UPDATE) For the naysayers that think this story isn't true. HERE IS THE VIDEO!

Something a lot of people overlook... The average lifespan of a mouse (like Mr. Jingles) is 5-7 years. Mr. Jingles was first noticed when Paul was around 44 (no telling how old Mr. Jingles was at the time). Paul said that he was 44 when John was executed and was currently 108 (64 years had passed). That means that Mr. Jingles has lived about 9 times his normal lifespan. The average lifespan of a male is around 77 years. Imagine.... if Paul lives for the same 9 times a normal lifespan, he will quite possibly live to be around 693 years old. His Green Mile is very, very long.
no mice live only 3 years in captivity i had 30 of the lovely rodents so i think Paul has around 300 years by then they will be able to stop ageing and reverse it, and stop humans dying

We found each other in the dark." One of the greatest bits of dialogue ever.
What makes me cry when she says that line is John Coffey constantly reminds us that he's afraid of the dark, but this bit of dialogue let's us know that in order to save people like the warden's wife John has to wander thru that darkness to find them & save them, which is probably why he doesn't like the darkness in the first place. Can't even imagine what he's experienced in that darkness. Which makes me love him even more because he still chooses to go into that darkness to save people. Tears every time.

It was never mentioned in the film, but it's hinted at that the scars on Coffey's back were because he was a slave imported from Africa. He's been around for hundreds of years. If Coffey gave Paul just a small portion of his powers to live a longer life, imagine how old Coffey was himself. That was part of why he said at the end that he was tired of seeing people being ugly to each other. The book hints at him being an angel, I think he was placed on this planet hundreds of years ago as a guardian for humankind

The line where Del says he wishes he could have met everyone somewhere else makes me tear up since my grandfather died. After retiring from being a high school teacher and counselor, he started teaching GED classes in the local jail. At his funeral, several former inmates that he helped get out of a life of small time crimes showed up and told me “I just wish I could have met him somewhere besides the jail.”

Stephen King is one of the most gifted writers ever. He wrote both the Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile, and also Stand By Me. So many people focus on the horror that King wrote, but he's so much than that... a true master.
He's absolutely amazing. The Stand is a masterpiece. I prefer his non horror writing. The Dark Tower series is good too
Stephen King has written probably every genera there is... I mean, just look at The Running Man
I definitely agree. I know that he's known as a horror author, but he writes heartwarming stories just as well. I also love that he tied in Coffey's healing abilities as being tied to the other psychic abilities he's written of in his other books like The Shining, and Firestarter.
But, it's interesting to note that he purposely wrote John Coffey to be an allegory for Jesus Christ performing miracles to save the wounded and the sinners in this prison atmosphere.

I had the privilege of working with Director Frank Darabont on this film. It came directly on the heels of “The Shawshank Redemption”, another Stephen King story directed by Frank; originally known as the book “Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption”, a short story written by King. Darabont did such a fantastic job writing the screenplay for Shawshank that King began using Frank for many other stories-“The Green Mile”, “The Mist”, etc. Interestingly, up until about 2-3 weeks before principle filming was to commence here in Nashville, Darabont was unable to find anyone to fill the role of John Coffey; everyone from Shaquille O’Neal to numerous others wanted it; but then Bruce Willis and another friend of mine at Disney recommended Michael Clarke Duncan on the strength of his ability to cry in “Armageddon”. Frank was skeptical at first, but when MCD read for the role, he obviously absolutely nailed it and was nominated for the Best Supporting Actor award at the Oscars that year, losing to Michael Caine for “Ciderhouse Rules”. MCD and I became friends over the years, as he did several other films here in Tennessee. He was actually a very funny guy. We had some truly hilarious times together before his tragic and untimely death from a heart attack in 2012. BTW, due to Tom Hanks being 6’2” or so, and David Morse (who played “Brutal” the taller guard) being about 6’4”’, they had to put MCD on what’s known as an “apple box highway” to make him tower over the others to approximate a 7 footer. MCD was about 6’6” IRL. That’s why, when you see MCD walking flanked by the others, you never see a full body shot of him, just basically from above the knees. An extremely good man who sadly never got another role of the magnitude of this. Obviously Tom Hanks was just a great person to work with, along with the other cast and crew. I am a lucky lucky man to have worked w those folks. 🙂

Nice to hear from someone who worked with Frank on the film. The casting on The Green Mile was absolutely phenomenal!! Michael Clarke Duncan was unbelievably good and each actor played their role to perfection. I don't think I've ever seen a more universally-hated character than Percy. I've seen just about every reaction to the film on RUclips and it's remarkable how easily people get pulled into the story. It's a real testament to Frank (and Stephen King of course). Viewers start out saying, "I'm not sure if I can make it through a 3-hour film" and the next thing you know, the film is done and they've barely blinked the whole time (except to wipe away the tears). Congratulations on being a part of one of the greatest films of all time!
@@ckobo84 well I’m 6’1” (or was at the time…I think I’ve shrunk about 1/2” since then. Long time ago🙂) and standing next to him he consistently seemed to be about an inch taller than me. That was my recollection anyway. And in a photo w both of us in it he seems taller, too although that could be perspective as he’s slightly closer to lens than me.

Tom Hanks and Gary Sinise (Lt. Dan) were also in "Apollo 13" about the aborted 1970 space mission and the drama about getting them back safely. It's a great movie that should definitely be on your reaction list.

John has the shine. Just like Danny in The Shining. Most of King's books are connected. The power his characters have are magical and divine. The Dark Tower series is the center of his universe that the rest of the stories branch out from.
He had a lot more than just the Shine. Danny couldn't heal people.

The best thing about this movie is how well the actors performed their roles. Everybody hates Percy and Wild Bill but to inspire that much animosity from viewer says something about their acting abilities. The whole cast was just amazing and it's a shame we didn't get more from Michael Clark Duncan. He was awesome performer and from what I understand, an awesome person in his everyday life. So, RIP man. Thanks for leaving your mark on this world. 💜

Within the first 10 minutes, maybe even 5 minutes, I was sobbing. The only way I can describe the camerawork is interactive. It felt like one of those simulator rides. I had never experienced a movie like that before.

I think it was a kindness that John gave to the parents to allow them to think that he was the one that killed the girls because of the guilt they would feel if they knew that they welcomed the killer into their home and allowed him access to their girls.
Back during the depression of the 1930s there were several transient workers like Wild Bill. Young, single men, that could not get a regular job, who would travel the country, doing odd jobs for people, for their supper.

I love how compassionate and empathetic you guys both were. And when I saw how you reacted to Dell’s execution, I really wanted to spare y’all the pain of what was to come in the rest of the movie. But then I guess you wouldn’t have had the full experience of this movie, which I truly believe to be a masterpiece. Everyone acted so brilliantly; Michael Clarke Duncan was the embodiment of John Coffey, Tom Hanks and David Morse were perfect as Paul and Brutal, Doug Hutchinson absolutely filthy as Percy, and loveable Sam Rockwell acted his ass off as Wild Bill. Different Seasons was an incredible collection of novellas. The Body, Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption, Apt Pupil (not as great a movie as it was a story but still decent), and The Breathing Method (more pedestrian horror but still good). Stephen King is sooooo much more than a horror author. He can make you care about characters like no one else.

I knew Del's execution was coming and I was concerned about how Amber would deal with it. I'm glad to see you both have recovered! Doug Hutchinson (Percy) played a particularly creepy "monster" named Eugene Victor Tooms in two X-Files episodes, "Squeeze" and "Tooms." Very much worth watching!
This film is a great masterpiece. Stephen King writing and Frank Darabont directing. Tom Hanks, Michael Clarke Duncan, David Morse, the entire ensemble cast portrayal of their character is something special. I cried as well as you guys did. Gets me every time. 😭

Frank Darabont and Stephen King, these two have made movies like The Green Mile, Shawshank Redemption, The Mist.. Holy hell these two need to make all the movies from now on.
Amazing reactions, you two! I was crying with you. I read the original book by Stephen King (when it came out a a serial novel - in small parts). Frank Darabont just took this already amazing story and brought it to a new level. Sam Rockwell played "Wild Bill" (he's an amazing actor) and Michael Clarke Duncan played "John Coffey" (RIP as he passed away in 2012). I'd like to recommend the movie "Hearts In Atlantis" which stars Anthony Hopkins (Silence of the Lambs) and Anton Yelchin. It's based on parts of the book of the same name by Stephen King. It's another emotional ride, as well. Not quite like this one, but my Mom always loved it. FYI...the scene w/John Coffey healing the warden's wife made me cry so hard as my Mom passed away last year to a brain tumor. I wish John Coffey could have been there for her, too.

This might be the shortest 3 hour movie ever. It's so good that you don't notice the time. One of the few times that I've seen an entire movie audience cry at the same time.
This and Shawshank Redemption are both among my top 5 all time favourite movies. Both fantastic.

One of my favorite movies, and an excellent example of what Stephen King's writing is capable of outside of horror.
MCD was masterful in this role, we lost a great one when he passed. As a side note, it has been theorized that John Coffey is a Messiah-like figure, and is a direct criticism of society, that we would see his miracles and crucify him again.
Two things: 1) Get ready to despise, Percy 2) Get ready to cry. 😉

I saw this movie when it first came out. Watched it with my mom. I was a typical, angsty teenager, and at the time being "cool" meant being indifferent to everything and not caring or showing emotions. And that was always amplified when I was around my parents because of the complex and unjustifiable resentment teens in the suburbs always felt toward their parents. Boy, I sobbed like a damn baby right next to my mom. Threw all pretense out the window. I mostly held it together for the whole movie. And then John said "Don't put me in the dark. I's afraid of the dark." And the dam broke. Watching it now as an adult, I cry at so many parts. I'm not even a spiritual man. But everything about this film is so powerful. Great reaction, you two. Read the book. Stephen King is a phenomenal writer. Love and peace to you both.

@@clairash2004the book explains why the men were on death row. I read it after I saw the film. The convictions were justified except for John Coffey. I originally went to see the film after hearing the soundtrack. I knew with music that wonderful. The story would be wonderful.

Love this movie, the emotion, the lighter moments when Paul (Tom Hanks') wife said "It's true, when he came home that day he was all better" the loathing of Percy and the satisfaction seeing that he got his wish and went to Briar Ridge after all where they said his "cheese slid off his cracker" ... all my tears especially at the end and seeing Mr Jingles still alive. The guards didn't want John to die, he wanted to go because he was tired of people being ugly to each other. Brilliant casting. RIP Michael Clarke Duncan 🥰
Can't say enough about how heartfelt and real your reactions were. This is definitely one of the greatest films of it's era...and Hanks the actor to go along with it. Next Hanks movie should be either "Saving Private Ryan," "Castaway" or "Big."

The thing that I always found heartbreaking was that John Coffey had to go to death row to find and experience kindness and friendship. And that the first gifts he ever received were from his jailers’ wives. What an awful existence for such a profoundly good man.

Lethal injection is the popular means of execution. However some states have started using the firing squad ( which is a faster way and more humane to do it. ) there are some states that actually still use the option of hanging.
Those insults by the parents of the two daughters is just another piece of the pain he feels - how much HATRED they have _because_ of how much they loved their daughters. That was the pieces of glass that he constantly felt and why he was willing to die.

I automatically hate both of those actors when I see them in other films just because of this. They were so good.
Newly subbed, after watching your reaction to this movie. The book has more nuance, but the actors chosen for this film brought it to life, even as it brought tears. The effluvium exiting John Coffeys' mouth after a "healing" is the physical manifestation of the evil/sickness the person had within him. John Coffeys' initials are the same as another misunderstood healer from about 2000 years ago....
Despite seeing this a half dozen times, it's such a pleasure to watch others experience something that moves one to not just tears, but to the very depths of pain, empathy and wonder. This movie was a gift to us all. It was so well written, directed, acted... and an unforgettable triumph by all involved.
This is such an amazing , human story. If we all lived and treated each other the way John Coffey did, what a wonderful world it would be. He was simply an angel on earth. And the scene with him holding the dead girls and crying, wailing has always killed me! He felt their fear and pain. Michael Clarke Duncan portrayed John to perfection. He was taken much too soon! Jay, you’re right. Executions now are almost always by lethal injection. It is much more humane,(edit) they receive a sedating drug that puts them to sleep and then potassium chloride that stops their heart. They drift off to sleep and never wake up. Some states give the inmates a choice of lethal injection or another form of execution.
*Edit: in speaking about lethal injection I changed ‘completely humane’ to ‘much more humane.’ This is a sensitive and a serious subject and I think my comment may have been construed as harsh or hateful. I don’t want to see anyone suffer but even more for me I do want justice done. Justice for the victim and their family is my overwhelming concern.
I would encourage you to research further about the statement that lethal injection is completely humane. That was the intention when we adopted the method, but there is evidence to the contrary more recently. This movie will always be a favorite of mine too, though
@@angelalurtz3638 It’s a hard subject but if done properly, it’s a vastly different method than the chair or gas chamber. Sadly, the victims of the horrible crimes that put these criminals on death row didn’t have a choice. I simply pray we get it right. I feel the death penalty is necessary and with new investigative advances, especially DNA, also pray that mistakes aren’t made.

So long as the justice system is run by human beings, there will be mistakes, whether those are wrongful convictions or botched executions, it is a guarantee; even if we reduce the rates, they will invariably occur. It also costs more taxpayer money to execute a prisoner than it does to execute them. Not to mention the fact that the justice system here comes down harder on BIPOC people across the board, which means we both wrongfully convict and more strongly convict people of color more frequently. Do we want those numbers to also affect the people we are choosing to kill? A wrongful conviction can be overturned, but a wrongful execution never can be. Is it worth that risk? Look up current wrongful conviction stats for the US; we get it wrong a lot more than is openly acknowledged
@@angelalurtz3638 Because in the most heinous cases it’s justice. An eye for an eye. And please find unbiased sources for your facts. There is an agenda being pushed to keep minorities placated so they can be used for political control. I believe it over 50% of violent crime is committed by only 13% of the population and those are young black males. I don’t like it but that’s just the facts. We need to focus on the true causes of this, beginning with fatherless homes, and work to change it. Feeding a population lies about the big bad police that are only out to get them is just keeping them in a victimhood mindset. These POC can be successful and not end up as just statistics. I would gladly work with anyone to change this truth but it starts with the family and a strong moral, and IMHO a Christian commitment from parents. And in the case of a wrongful conviction, that’s why I say I pray. If you take this case by case, you can’t say that there is such bias in the justice system. No one is just going out and grabbing PsOC for jaywalking and sentencing them to life. But that’s what we’re all told and it’s just not true. If you’ll check your statistics, there’s a higher percentage of white executions than black executions in the U.S. And please explain the ‘BI’ in your POC. I can’t keep up with the daily addition to our PC vocabulary.

Great reaction, read this book when it first came out. John is an empath and healer. He feels all the pain in the world and he can heal, but he can't resurrect the dead. That's why he says things like 'there might still be time' and 'it was too late'. If there's a spark of life, he can help. In the book you learn that Del murdered a young woman while very drunk. Trying to hide his crime he burned the body but set an apartment building on fire killing a number of kids. As horrible as his death was, it could be seen as him paying the price in such a way that it saves him from hell.
Wow now you've made an excellent point that I never realized until you just said that which is he never resurrected the Dead!! Now I have to rethink my thoughts that John Coffey was Jesus Christ because of the obvious parallel with the initials but also the different things that he's able to do!! One of my biggest clues, I thought, was after Paul asks John Coffey what should his answer be to God on Judgment Day when God asked "why did you kill one of my true miracles?" and John Coffey's answer was "you tell God the Father it was a kindness you did!!" My way of thinking, the only person that I really thought referred to God as "God the Father" would be Jesus!!

@@ernestortiz4555 That's the one thing I'd say the movie got wrong. It did very well at humanizing the inmates. So much so, however, that without any reference to their actual crimes, too many people come away from the film thinking their punishment was too much.
John's case aside, the inmates along the Mile definitely deserve their conviction.

This has always been such a perfect movie. It is absolutely heartbreaking and heartwrenchingly beautiful. The casting and acting is perfection. This is one movie that can never be remade.
That last line "if he can make a mouse live that long, how much longer do I have" is, to me, the scariest line in movie history. Chills me to the bone everytime i hear it. There are fates worse than death.

I've shed tears and cried with every reactor who's watched this movie, but I think i've cried the most with you guys. This is one of those movies I feel everyone should watch at least once. It teaches the importance of having empathy and compassion. At least to me, that's what I get from it.

This was Michael Clark Duncan(John Coffey) first major acting role. I can’t watch this movie without crying every time. I’m very thankful that we no longer live in a time when people that are mentally disabled aren’t blindly found guilty just because they aren’t so easily understood. Amber I understand what you were talking about with your experience working with special needs kids. As a mother to a special needs child I’ve learned so much I’d say the two biggest things my daughter has taught me are 1: to be patient, I was never a very patient person prior to becoming a mother to a child like her, and 2: to look at the world and life with humor. I’ve found that sometimes the only way to get through the problems that come with being a parent to a special needs child is being able to find the humor in life because otherwise I would probably be curled up in a corner crying and screaming at the difficulties that being a special needs child’s parent aren’t fun I’ll tell you that. I also thank God that my daughter able to somewhat communicate and I remind myself that she could be worse off. I was very lucky to be able to get pregnant in the first place given that the day my doctor told me that I was pregnant I was also given my first cancer diagnosis. Thankfully I’ve now been in remission for 10+ years since my last diagnosis and my daughter turned 21 this year.
I do not want to refute you, nor 'rain on your parade', but a review of policing vids on YT shows that cops misjudge, over-react, & generally abuse the 'mentally-challenged time after time!

The actor that played John Coffey, Michael Clarke Duncan, was an amazing actor and an amazing person as well. My friend Linda was his personal assistant, and her husband Andy Straub worked on the movie The Green Mile as well. Michael was good to the crew of the movie, not all actors are, and Michael even thanked Andy during his acceptance speech when he won the Peoples Choice Award for I believe best supporting actor for The Green Mile. It might have been Talladega Nights because I know Andy worked with him on that movie as well. Either way he was gone much too soon. RIP

The movie Stand By Me is adapted from a Stephen King short story. The story was called "The Body," and if I remember correctly, was in the same book (Different Seasons, a collection of 4 short stories) as Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption.
You may very well know all this, but you mentioned King's two other well-known non-horror adaptations, so I figured I'd round out the trifecta.
It always gets me.
"We all owe a death, there are no exceptions."
And "Sometimes the green mile seems so long."
As an empath this movie hits so differently. I am so glad yall reacted to it. I cried with you. Both of you are amazing people. I love your channel! Love and light!

Stephen Kings books and movies are all on another level. Absolutely the GOAT! And I feel the same way about your reactions, better than anyone else that I follow. Your tears brought me to tears, amazing.
I can't begin to count the number of times I've watched this film, and yet I still cry every time during the horrifically botched execution and EVERY scene with Michael Clarke Duncan; even when watching the edited down reaction channel viewings. Stephen King, Frank Darabond, Tom Hanks, and the rest deserve every award and accolade for this. RIP MCD you (and John Coffey) we're to soon gone.

John is a "Sin Eater", similar to the Native American legends of healers who would take the illness onto themselves, and then puke them out, getting rid of the disease.
If this movie doesn’t make you cry you have no heart. This is a great movie, one of the best Stephen King films.😢
How funny it is that you both said, before the movie started, that you didn’t thought you would stay focus for a 3h long movie…and then, you were completely in the movie, captivated 😊

When my wife and I saw this in the theater, when the lights came on and we walked out, I turned to her and said "what a great movie. I'll never watch it again.". This was only the second time I went through this story, and I was glad to do it along with you two. My heart hurt knowing what you were going to go through, but in the end it is a masterpiece of story telling. Thank you again for sharing this with us. I'd recommend Cast Away as another great Tom Hanks movie if you ever get the change. As always, you're loved, and until next time.
I could not agree more, I have avoided watching this movie again as like Shawshank it moved me so much. Only through this review could I look at it again. A masterpiece
I have only ever seen one film that I both liked (not happy like, just thought it was a good movie) and also never want to see again: Hayao Miyazaki's/ Studio Ghibli's Grave of the Fireflies. That's one I do *not* recommend to Jay and Amber. If they thought this movie broke their hearts they will just absolutely lose it with that one.
I was flat out watching her cry through my tears. The brilliant performances are not random, the script is not random, the end result is exquisite. This is why I generally follow actors with integrity, rarely disappointed and frequently changed, also I love a good cry, seems to clear a lot of crap.
These movie adaptations of The Shawshank Redemption, The Shining and The Green Mile really highlight the genius of Stephen King's writing.
When John smelled the grass at 46:00 that is exactly what it feels like to get your freedom back. I remember the day of being released and seeing a purple car on the way to the airport. It was the first time I saw purple in 6 years and it looked amazing. The funniest thing is that I now associate purple with a car instead of Prince 🤣🤣🤣
I've seen this movie many times and cry each time, but having you guys cry with me had me bawling like a baby.
This movie was hugely impactful on me. It did a lot to change how I see the criminal justice system and capital punishment. It also humanized prisoners themselves. I think it's one of the reasons Green Mile and Shawshank are so often recommended together to people, on top of them just being good movies.
Two books that will also change your mind about the criminal justice system are Slavery by Another Name and Just Mercy. My mind was blown wide open🤯 after reading those two. A. I had no idea how all that stuff got started B. I can never ever see crime & punishments the same again.
I hate when people say “JuSt tELL eM hEs iNnOcEnT”. Death was the punishment at that time for black man raping a white woman.
So many cases where people were convicted on the shoddiest of evidence. Even “forensics” isn’t as reliable as they make it out to be. They also only have one trial per 500 arrests/convictions. Most are pressured into plea bargaining.
Juries still think cops never lie, if they were arrested they “must be guilty”, etc.. a man in Texas was executed for “setting a fire” on Christmas killing his kids. Those “arson investigators “ only need a GED and a weekend course. An actual phd of physics proved that they used old wives tales as “science”. Same with bite mark evidence. Even DNA and fingerprints. People automatically trust what they are told by the state.

I'm so glad you guys thought so much of one of my very favorite movies. It is my favorite Stephen King novel and was brilliantly written for screen, brilliantly cast and brilliantly acted. It's like the characters walked right out of the pages of the books and onto the screen, all of them. Sweet Michael Clark Duncan I absolutely fell in love with as John Coffey who I loved so much from the book. Yes, John was one of God's miracles on earth. Unfortunately, Michael Clark Duncan has passed and just like I cried like a baby in the movie I did when I read about it in real life. He was in a number of really good movies, many of them really funny. Michael was in Armageddon, and The Whole Nine Yards which is really funny. Great reaction guys! I've probably seen this 20 times and cried right along with you! Lol. I do every single time!

I agree with so many here about Michael Clark Duncan's portrayal of John. But I also believe that Sam Rockwell's portrayal of Wild Bill was amazing too. He was so good at playing someone most of us DESPISED.
