Dopamine does not introduce unpleasant artefacts like the exciters do: in fact it dynamically balances the harmonics that naturally exist in the original audio rather than generating non-existent harmonics by synthesizing them.

Can't believe you'd never heard of Ovetloud. Their Gem plugins, Breverb Plugin, and TH-U guitar gear dims are all pretty good to be fair!

I own the Dolby A unit. Its basically a multiband compressor and expander, which adds a sort of exciter to the vocals. I use Audiothings Type a that you can pick up for around £25 when its on offer. Not used this one, but ifs its as good, and you want a fast decent vocal sound its worth considering Audiothing Type A for the money or trialing this one (I know a few producers who like the Audiothing).

Audiothing's Type A, right now at 29 USD from Plugin Boutique, does sound really good and does what it says in brighting up vocals and high-end. However, I do not know how it compares to the hardware or to this plugin by Overloud Gems. I'd love to see someone do a shootout video for these! : )

@@KristianWontroba Lets just say, its so close you'd hardly notice. I was taught by an engineer who like me used the Dolby A hardware unit and we both use the Audiothing Type A. Theres a demo to try, give it a go, its got the same vibe and considering how old the Dolby A units are (mine was serviced but not sure how long I will get out the unit) this is a gem.

@@richertz this is so superior to the audiothing its not even funny - you can use it on a million more things in a million ways and not introduce any artifacts or bad harmonics which is why it costs a hell of a lot more . Most of us average peeps would never use it to that extent though or even have a clue if it was or wasnt as we dont own speakers that cost thousands or even have a Room thats treated and EQ'ed like a studio ;)

      @richertz 10 месяцев назад

@@LukeLjJames it’s not much different the Audiothing nails the Dolby A - I have the hardware and it’s very close. A few other engineers I know use it as well.

to be clear its a plugin based
on a technique and a process at the same
time early forms of noise reduction for
    tape involves taking a signal
manipulating it a lot of times by adding
brightness to it to encode the tape and
then on the other end you would have
something that would decode the tape
take off that extra high end and then
hopefully take off the hiss as well what
engineers started to do at one point is
they realize that this brightness is
actually a really cool effect to use on
    certain things like for vocals
background vocals and things like that
so they would just use the encode
process in parallel with the vocal so
what our friends is over loud here have
done is they've taken this concept and
they put it into a plugin ;)

Overloud prides themselves on doing the most accurate emulations of real hardware possible this day in age. Any of their plugins are high quality , well above the average plugin on the market. There are shootouts between several plugins and the real hardware by professional sound engineers and its hard to identify a difference between hardware and Overloud. You should really try the demos, if you are looking for high quality hardware emulations.
