    I have just installed this lock and it seems well made, like every product, reviews are mixed.
    With a bit of thought Yale could really improve this lock especially on the software side. I wouldn't say it's a total smart lock, unless you have the z module, would be nice if that was included along with the hub. But at the moment I am happy with it.

    • @BrenTeckITSupport
      @BrenTeckITSupport  4 года назад +2

      Hi Anthony,
      I get your point. It would be nice for it to come complete for first-time buyers but this would put up the price and if you already have the hub, you are then wasting money. So I think it would be nice for a lock on its own with the option of a starter kit would be best. Ie a cheap z wave hub + z wave model. Or at least make it easier and clear where to get them. Yale does have the SR-Hub & Module 2 Kit but I can not get a link for it and I have not tried it so would not want to recommend it at the moment.
      I can only recommend the Samsung SmartThings Starter Kit amzn.to/2Kaxv2T with the Z-Wave Module 2 amzn.to/2WQisNr as I have tried it and know it works.
      Thanks for your comments wish you all the best and keep well.

    Hi Paul
    I don't know where your comment went :(
    "How wide is the handle? I can't find measurements anywhere and want to know if it will fully cover my old handle or if it's thinner it will expose old paint"
    It's a good question so I will post it here.
    Outside Width = 36mm Hight 276mm
    Inside Width =36mm Hight = 386mm
    I only quickly measured mine so might be out a bit so use this as a guide.
    You can always paint the door before you fit it, which may be best if you are thinking of repainting it in the near future.
    Hope you get to see this.
    Take care and keep well
    David.

    I bought the Yale access bridge and it just will not pair. I must have tried 20 times. All i get is the message "You do not own any locks that support bridge. Please install your compatible smart lock first". This is the problem, I have installed the wifi module into the Conexis L1 and it is working on the app via bluetooth ok. I can unlock and lock the door fine with the app. It's the bridge that is the problem. Can you help or offer any advice. Thx

      Hi Alex, great to hear from you. Have you pressed the button inside three times to start the module? Try watching ruclips.net/video/eJEPmeE8BC0/видео.html as this may help. I am using SmartThings and zwave but should be the same process. Your phone is likely communicating with the lock via internal Bluetooth instead of WiFi at the moment and not using the module at all.
      I hope this helps please let us know how you get on. All the best Dave

      @@AlsKitchen Hi Alex, The video you sent me looks like you are scanning the wrong QR code.
      First make sure your hub is less then 3 meters from your door. Power up the hub and set it up. Then try pressing the button in the lock three times in quick succession. If you need to scan any QR codes it will be on the lock modual and or the hub itself or in the documentation that came with it. Not a photo on a tablet even if this is a photo of your device the image may corrupt the QR code enough to change the data in it. When scanning QR codes make sure you only have one code in the scan area and keep the item you are scanning on a flat service not your other hand as this will give two much image shake.
      I hope this helps, let us know how you get on.

      Hi Pyle
      Well that is an open ended question.
      For us I would say yes, as I like having the peace of mind on checking if the door is locked whilst out. Also I now seldom bring any keys or wallets when I am out as I just use my phone for letting me back in when I get home and for contactless payment.
      My wife likes being able to unlock the door from upstairs to let someone in as she is disabled and can take time getting downstairs so with the SkyBell she has the confidence to open the door remotely. She also loves being able to check that the door is locked while in bed.
      We both love being able to unlock the front door from the worm dry inside of the car in winter and then just go straight in, no fussing at the door.
      So for us, yes we love it. But I can see some people would be happy with a simple key, no battery, no internet or WiFi no problem. As for security all locks are just deterrent to stop the opportunist from walking in, so far there is not much publicly on how to hack the Yale lock so brute force is most likely which will probable mean they with use the window instead of the door being a multi point lock.
      Glad you enjoyed our video, wish you all the best and keep well.

    • @BrenTeckITSupport
      @BrenTeckITSupport  5 лет назад +2

      Hi, A good question. The app only allows you to be logged into one phone at a time with that soft key. You install the app on a new phone and login, it will then ask if you want to move your key to the new device, once you confirm the move is done. The key will still show up on the old device but will not work just in case the phone was lost or stolen. Hope this helps.

    Do you have to manually lift the door handle to lock or can it lock the door fully automatically?

    • @BrenTeckITSupport
      @BrenTeckITSupport  Год назад +1

      Hi Leigh, Yes you have to lift to lock! It’s a replacement of your current lock so works the same way. If you press and turn the internal knob, use the app or key fob to unlock the door with out pushing the handle down. It will automaticity lock without being lifted again! This is because when you start the unlock process before you push down on the handle it only is engaging or disengaging the locking mechanism not moving the multi point locks around the door. Only the internal handle mechanism.
      I would love it to automaticity fully lock the door remotely but I am going to guess this might require a more powerful motor, bigger batteries and how would the lock know if the door is fully closed? But would be an excellent feature.

      Hi Hammy,
      I am finding the lock to be relay good, especially in winter. I sit in the car and use the app to unlock the front door. That way I spend less time in the rain. Pore me ... I also like having the ability to check to see if I have not left the door unlocked when out. It's nice to have the reassurance your home is secure so you can enjoy the day.
      Your not the first to want to lock the door remotely and I am sure most of us want this option. However it is not possible with this lock as it's lift to lock. The motor just disengages or engages the handle after the handle has been lifted.

Just replace the batteries all settings are saved in the lock so you will not need to reset anything. Even if the batteries completely die and you are outside with the door locked you just need a 9V batterie and press and hold it to the contacts at the bottom of the outside lock and you will be able to get back in as normal.

      Hi Daz,
      Hope you had a good Christmas.
      Are you meaning the quiet beep the lock makes, or the app on your phones?
      If you mean the lock itself No. But it's not that loud in real life, the video makes it sound louder as I have an amplified mono-directional mic aimed at it.
      It's no louder then closing the door behind you as you leave.
      If you mean the app then yes.
      There are two easy ways of doing this.
      1. Turn off the Play Unlock Sound in the app. Click the gear icon, Notifications, Play Unlock Sound.
      That's what I have done along with Unlock Vibrate.
      2. More complicated but good to have and get to know.
      Download MacroDroid from the play store play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.arlosoft.macrodroid&hl=en_GB
      Add macro, Date/Time, Day/ Time Trigger, (set when you want to turn off ALL notifications sounds, Actions, Volume, Volume Change, Sent any volume you want on any or all sliders, Tick and give it a name and press OK
      Then do it again and set the volume high.
      Now at night the volume on the phone goes down and back up in the morning.
      Play with this app it's Free for five macros at a time I believe. You can start making more automation with it. I find it very useful and easier to use then Tasker.
      If you want I can make a video on how to do this if it helps.
      Wish you all the best.

    My only whinge is that, unlike others, there is no way to configure it to unlock when your smartphone's wifi comes within range. So you either have to get your phone out to use the app (awkward if you have your hands full or if it's raining etc) or get the fob/RFID card out and hold it on the sensor.
    I have not found a suitable alternative but will jump ship as soon as possible if I do. (Edit: see my reply to my own post below where I have very successfully used a SmartThings hub and Z-Wave module to get around this limitation. MW).

      @BrenTeckITSupport  2 года назад +1

      Hi Martin,
      Sorry, you are having problems with yours. Make sure your batteries are fully charged / new alkaline. I get away with rechargeables but they are not recomended.
      Also, make sure no wires are trapped/pinched as this can cause a communication problem.
      You can have it unlocked via geofencing or wifi connectivity using events in Samsung SmartThings, Google Home, Alexa or using HomeAssistant but this is a lot more work to get working and I don't recommend doing it as we found that our door unlocked when phones restarted or power on when at home. The door will relock after a minute or two if the leaver was not pushed down so not supper critical but still a security flore. The best practice is to use the NFC fob.
      If it's raining we unlock the door using the SmatThins app so we can walk strat in from the car.
      I hope this helps and thanks for your comments.

      @@martinwinlow Hi Martin,
      OK This is going to be fun to explain as things have changed since I got ours and did the video.
      You will need a sync module of some type;
      1. I used to recommend the Z-wave 2 module with smart things. BUT this has stopped working with home assistant due to updates and SmatThings is now rebranded. It still works great using the SmartThings APP.
      2. Aeotec Smart Home Hub - UK version amzn.to/3mZ1qwl which is SmarThings rebrand + Yale SD-M1100, Smart Door Lock Z-Wave Module 2 amzn.to/31M7eBm.
      3. Or The Yale Wi-Fi Bridge + Access Module amzn.to/3BVRBDH
      The new Yale Connect Wi-Fi Bridge + Yale Access Module may be a better starting point amzn.to/3BVRBDH but I have not tried it so can not say how good it is or if it offers anything over the Aeotec Smart Home Hub - UK version amzn.to/3mZ1qwl which is SmarThings rebrand.
      Smart assistance such as Google Home, Alexa or HomeAssistant are not needed to use the module and app to unlock the door remotely.
      Geo-fencing the lock was not a great experience for me. With the updates I don't know how well it will work now as when I did it I used Stringify that no longer exists :( I did not move it over to HomeAssistane as I found Geo fencing the lock to be unreliable from "my" phone.
      To do Geo fencing you will need a 3/4th party such as Alexa routines, SmatThings or IFTTT to track your location then respond to the change. Home Assistant may work with the new Aeotec Smart Home Hub amzn.to/3mZ1qwl or even with the old SmartThings if starting from scratch. The SamartThings updates just broke the security. There is a Yale smart living integration for Home Assistant but I have not tried it.
      I am now using a ZigBee dongle with Home Assistant directly to overcome the problems with SmartThings but this does not support Z-Wave and I do not know what the new Yale Access Module works on as I can not see in their documentation. It may be ZigBee, Z-wave, Bluetooth, the new Matter standard or WiFi who knows.
      I am sure this is not as helpful as you were hoping for but just my experience and with the new Matter standard coming out soon all could change again, have fun.

      Hi Michael
      Yes, Yes I would recommend the Conexis L1 Smart Lock. It has never let me down, I do keep a 9V battery in the glove box just in case but as long as I replace the battery when it gives me the warning beep it will be good to go every day.
      To unlock the door using the app you need the z wave module which I have done a video of the Yale Conexis L1 Lock working with z wave and SmartThings here ruclips.net/video/eJEPmeE8BC0/видео.html
      Hope you had a lovely Christmas and wish you all the best for 2021

    Do smart locks like this activate the multi points the same as if you had turned the handle "up" manually before locking it?

    • @BrenTeckITSupport
      @BrenTeckITSupport  5 лет назад +3

      Hi Alan, sadly no you must manually lift the handle to engage the multipoint locks. The motor only allows the handle to be active or deactive. You must also push the handle down to unlock the door after telling the lock to unlock otherwise within about 30 seconds it will disengage the handle again. So if someone is at the door and you want to let them in remotely you must have the zwave module installed first. You can use the Samsung smart things app to activate the handle. The person can then push down on the handle to retract the multipoint locks and open the door. To lock the door, the person must first close the door and lift the handle fully. The motor will then disengaged the handle so the door can not be opened again. The handle must be fully pushed up otherwise it will attempt to disengage the handle but will fail and the door can still be opened, if using zwave and Samsung smart things the status of the lock should also show the door unlocked if this happens.
      I hope this helps. I can do a quick video about this when my new tripod arrives. If you like.

I always wondered about the push up functionality, I suspected that smart locks, being only battery operated, couldn't really do the pushing up, I figured they must only disengage the handle or something like that.

      A soft key is one in the phone app. You have to buy one for each account / user. They are not transferable between users or reusable which is a shame. You can put them on a new phone but only one device per key (user).
      So if you want to give someone regular access to your property I suggest using a key fob or card and they can hand it back when needed. If they don't you can deleted the key to stop it form working till you get it back. When setting up the card / fob you can add a time it can be used, but only during setup.

    That's not as smooth operating as I'd have hoped, someone leaving the house still has to manually lock the door behind them instead of the handle simply not catching until engaged as I expected it would work. Not great for a front door, especially in a HMO.

    • @BrenTeckITSupport
      @BrenTeckITSupport  4 года назад +1

      Hi Hashterix
      Yes it does require the person leaving the house to lift the handle to lock it. The same for most secure doors. I say secure as the push to close latch are so insecure you can open them with a credit card down the gap as seen in spy films.
      I do agree it would be nice to have an auto lock feature so after x minutes it could be set to auto lock and a hold open mode if you want it to stay unlocked till you lock it. I would love this feature myself.
      You can see if the door is locked or unlocked via the SmatThings app.
      Using Home Assistant you can start doing amazing things like take a photo every time the door is unlocked and locked. You could record who leaves it unlocked and have a friendly chat with them.
      Have Home Assistant alert you if the door has been unlocked for x amount of time.
      I will not go into HA here as this is a massive topic which I will do a video on later.
      I am just stating to get into HA and finding some of it amazing but parts frustrating so its not for everyone yet... I mean yet they are updating it all the time and it should become the standard for home automation.

      @@Hashterix Hi Hashterix,
      A night latch is not classed as a secure lock. It only holds the door closed in one point using a spring catch. Which can easily be overcome by one good shoulder barge or a kick, two screws are holding it in or if you're lucky about 1cm of wood in one place which will split. Whereas a multi-point lock holds the entire door to the frame. The stretcher of the door and frame are holding the door locked and closed (as long as it's locked). You will need a ram to force this type open. This being the main problem someone has to lock it! I would love it to have the auto-lock function. So much so if it came out I would upgrade.
      You are right it all depends on what door and frame you have in place at the time.

      To Schedule time Keys:
      - When sending a sub user a shared key, there is an option o send them a scheduled or permanent key
      - Permanent key will give access to the user all of the time
      - Scheduled key will give the sub user access only during specific times the master user sets
      To set up a scheduled key
      - Type in the email you would like to send a key
      - Select ‘Scheduled Key’
      - Select the start/end time you would like to enable the key fore
      - Underneath it will ask you to select days which you would like the key to be valid from and what date. Please see picture www.brenteck.com/images/YaleScheduling.png

    Biggy for me is that you can not lock it via phone/smart home integration (only unlock).

      Hi Kevin,
      Yes, I know what you mean but if you already have a lift to lock setup then you should be used to it. It's just a simple lift to lock and all done no key needed. But I do wish there was a motor to do remote locking for though of us who forget to lift to lock or if we let someone in to drop off a package, walk the dog etc and wanted to make sure the door was locked after.
      I guess it would take more battery power and a bigger motor to do it.
      Thanks for watching and commenting, keep well.
      David

      Hi Peter, the Conexis L1 is only for multipoint locks. So If your back door is multipoint UPVc door like my front door then yes. However, if you have a French patio door I don't think so as looking at mint it does not look to have enough room to fit. Tilt and slide doors would definitely not work with it. It might work with sliding doors depending on your mechanism.
      Best bet is to contact yale directly www.yalelock.com/en/yale/com/menu/contact/
      I hope this might help.
      I just found a compatibility guide.
