    • @t415x
      @t415x 11 месяцев назад

      BulletsGarage has sort of the opposite take on this and I think it's because his GSF wasn't leaking, so instead of focusing on what type of sealant, he replaced the type of coolant in his GSF and theorized that it's the coolant that's eating into the valley seal. I asked him about the information he gathered to develop this theory and he said it was mostly from facebook group discussions.
      Not saying that his theory is bunk because he got it off of Facebook, but rather that I truly want to get to the bottom of this and want to do my part in sharing what I know. I believe you already mentioned that this is a big topic in the Lexus forums, but Facebook groups are just as important to pay attention to as there are some folks there that are very skilled and some even work at Toyota/Lexus. I'm also glad this is being discussed on RUclips, but the comments section is hard to navigate between different videos.

    • @bosshawg7427
      @bosshawg7427 11 месяцев назад

      @t415x I wound up buying a tube of the recommended sealant for the Valley leak on a 3MZFE. Surprisingly, the Toyota dealership here had it. It's expensive, but it's kind of convincing that it's usually only used by the techs for warranty work. So far, no leaks, and if paying extra gives a piece of mind of not having to go in the valley again for a good while or ever again for that issue, I'll take it.

      I had this service done on my 2012 GX at ~110k miles. I read up on it quite a bit and had a independent shop do it. I made sure they ordered the correct sealant from Toyota so it would be oem and wouldn't potentially be a generic sealant. That also ensured that what they used was 'fresh' and not expired from sitting on a shelf and separating which happens to a lot of sealants and greases etc when they've been sitting. The shop originally misdiagnosed the valley plate leak which I distinctly remember telling them that I thought it was, but they honored my original $600 estimate, and its been fine since at 2 years later

      I have something similar to you going on. I changed the trans fluid and the solenoid for the corresponding code with no luck. I didn't look at the filter but I am going to check that next when I go to install a valve body rebuild or 'zip kit' from Sonnex. Read up on worn bores in the valve body which cause pressure loss, and can throw codes related to different solenoids. The kit fixes the leaky bores with modified bore plugs and boost valve. From what I've gathered these parts can be replaced pretty easily, if you've gotten to the valve body (not hard) then you should be able to tackle replacing the valve body rebuild parts to shore up potential causes of pressure loss which lead to a lot of the transmission performance codes. Your solenoids can easily be function checked with a digital multimeter to rule out costly replacement of parts that are otherwise fine

      I think it’s an age issue since mine is a 2012 with 87k miles. My buddy Gabriel has a 2014 and he just did his VP seal today also.

    Totally this not a diy job, even some Mechanic may scroll up when remove intake manifold, something fall inside the piston and destroy the engine, GX470 has a better engine can last up to million miles if maintained, GX460 engine has more problems!

      It’s not exclusive to the GX460. I read up on Tundras and other Lexus models. Very annoying issue. My truck only has 87k miles so this is more of an age issue.

      I have a GX 470 with 200K on the clock it is a 2007 model, full dealer service up to 195K miles, what should I look out for and what service should I do. I am the second owner.

      @@Moondoggy1941 I have a 2009 GX470. I recommend you consider getting g the timing belt done around every 100,000 miles or every 7-8 years. Now, There are guys out there that drove over 150k miles and over 10 years on the original belt and when it was removed it looked pristine. So it’s up to you how long you want to push your luck. Get the fluids baselined. Lubricate the drive shafts. Check the brake pads. There trucks tend to wear out their rear pads first. Also check the SAIS (secondary air injection system). You can do your own spark plugs too! ruclips.net/video/FLpE8L5Yx5A/видео.html
      Do you still have the original rear suspension/air bags?

      @@MaximumDIYGarage Thanks, lucky for me the timing belt and water pump have been replaced twice by the dealer. I will check into the fluids and drive shaft, I do not think it has ever been in 4 wd, it is a mall princess still. I have owned it for 3 years, , I did drive it for a year about 25 miles a day, then gas went to almost 6 dollars a gallon I did not drive it as much. I do have the original rear suspension, I would like to an upgrade for more off-road but nothing serious. Do you have the dealer do the secondary air injection? I can usually do spark plugs as long as it is not crazy difficult. Thanks for the help.
