If you install another piece of heat shield aluminum say a .25 " away from the one next to the door it will act as a thermal break and not get nearly as hot.

Theoretically, having the heater/fireplace lower seems like it would be more efficient (because heat rises). Hopefully it works well in actual practice.

Have you ever checked out the Camco Wave 3 propane heater they're very efficient hardly use any propane and you can mount them on the wall
does the camper have ac.does the camper stay warm if camping below 30 degrees?
