I recently purchased the 21 Venza limited and cross shopped it with the RAV4 limited. We went for the Venza because in the limited trim, the Venza had the features we wanted. We really wanted the 360 cameras which come standard on the Venza limited but as an additional package on the RAV4 hybrid limited. Best price I could get on the RAV4 hybrid limited with 360 cameras was $41k, on the Venza limited we got for $38k. It was cheaper for us to go with the Venza limited than the RAV4 hybrid limited.
Note: the 12.3 inch infotainment system is standard on the Limited trim, optional in the XLE. If you don't opt for it you get an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system.
How about the glass roof? Is it optional for the Limited trim?
Danil Kim It’s available ONLY on the Limited.
Why did the LE say 8in. Screen then the XLE say 7in.?
Venza Prime needed
Honestly the venza LE is i think a really good value. For only 34k it has more space, the best economy, great reliability and a more luxury ride than most compact crossovers. I think the outback is the only other one that comes close and the outback has way worse fuel economy
Alex, You raised a very sound point in your first Venza video when you questioned why this #PremiumPriced model did not receive the Highlander Hybrid's more powerful drivetrain. All in all it sounds like the Venza represents RAV4 performance and size at Highlander prices.
The interior in the Venza is nicer than the Highlander (and much nicer than the RAV4 interior.) Some people don’t need (or want) the extra size of a three row crossover. To say nothing of the styling of the Venza vs. the RAV4 or Highlander. If people weren’t willing to pay more for those things than Lexus wouldn’t be selling any vehicles.
How is granny going lift bags over that +4" lift over height compared to RAV4?
@@normt5463 I agree the the lift over height is unfortunately high. Probably necessary due battery and the decision to include a spare vs a flat repair kit seen in many of the other new cars. Corp decision that will please some disappoint others. I'm OK without a spare. Haven't had an on the road flat for 30 years.
@Hugh MacIsaac Thanks for sharing your personal experience. From my perspective, the greater practicality of the RAV4 or Highlander Hybrids outweigh the added luxury of the Venza.
For the price they’re asking for, they need to put the 244 hp hybrid set up from the Sienna in there to differentiate it from the RAV4.
that bigger hybrid system is reserve for midsize/heavy vehicles
Tinh in nh That’s my point for paying extra for the Venza vs RAV4. The Venza is 150 lbs or more heavier than the RAV4. Like I said the Venza also cost almost 4K more than the RAV4.
Tbv V Well, Toyota must’ve felt the rav4’s hybrid system is adequate for the venza so thats what they went with. The venza is still classified as compact even though its slightly heavier than the rav
@@tbvv6729 Agreed.
Exactly that would totally justify the extra 4-5k toyota is pushing for this car. And honestly I think that 244hp setup costs only a hair more than the current setup cause most of components are the same.
Hi Alex, is there any reason for not including CRV in specs and prices comparison?
yeah and why include a jeep grand cherokee, lol
Venza Prime needed
Thanks Alex! This helps in my preparation for my video on how the venza will affect Lexus nx and Rx sales.
Hey, nice to see you here Kirk! I'm wondering what do you think about the people bashing on the Venza for "losing it's original rugged style", and expecting the Venza to be discontinued sooner than the old models?
who really cares about 0-60 in daily driving. What matters are cost/fuel efficiency, low maintenance cost, reliability and practicality while not being ugly. This venza has it all.
I am really impressed with the RAV4 Prime but not a fan of the looks.
I prefer the sleek Venza.
The new Venza strikes me as the more sensible daily driver CUV for commuting. That is a very good thing mainstream buyers as it looks like it is reasonably comfortable cruiser that has decent daily performance and room all without having the typical CUV penalty to fuel economy.
71.5 dB? That’s higher than I was expecting. I was hoping for 68-69 dB
In the US, there is a mandated pedestrian sound that plays under 15 mph. That is bleeding through the cabin. That may have increased the dB.
The way Alex does his measurements, he never gets readings that low. I don’t think I’ve ever heard him measure less than 69dB.
alliejr he did for the Kia k900. He got 67.5 dB
The Lexus RX350L was 69db according to Alex. They can’t make it as quiet as the more expensive Lexus.
Tesla model y I drove was in the 80s according to phone app. on hwy
The lack of adjustability of the passenger seat which can't be lowered stopped us from buying a Rav-4 hybrid. Even the Limited Trim of the Rav-4 didn't allow the passenger seat to be lowered like the power driver seat and lack of front legroom which the newly redesigned Rav-4 lost, we were hoping that the new Venza might be different, but sadly No. If this is not a problem for you, being past Toyota owners, Toyata is a very reliable brand.
@@fcex558 We were looking for a car to travel with and this would be my wife's new car. I'm 6'2", the driver's seat worked for me, but the passenger seats lack of adjustability just didn't work. From a lack of headroom, since the passenger seat is locked to a high height position and lost legroom in the 2019 redesign from the previous model; it just made the passenger seat very uncomfortable. For small, young families, this should be a good option and as I said before, being past Toyota owners, Toyota is a very reliable brand.
They should of at least put in the manually height adjustable passenger seat like in the Camry.
@@ro0ster648 If Toyota had even put in manual adjustments that had the same range of motion that the driver seat ,we would have been driving a Rav-4 now. I just needed to get the passenger seat to match the driver seat, but the passenger seat was stuck on higher manual rails and could not be lowered like the drivers seat.
@@fcex558 yes. The Jolly Green Giant.
Toyota wants you to step up to a Lexus if you want a fully adjustable passenger seat.
pretty good looking one! Exactly what I was looking for!
They need to make it a Venza Prime with the Rav4 Prime drivetrain.
I would rather they make the Venza Prime with a plug-in version of the new Sienna / Highlander Hybrid drivetrain, and I wish they would put it in the 2022 Rav4 Prime too if it would fit.
@@jvm5th They will, don't worry. Toyota already said that they will electrify their entire lineup by 2025.
@@CumBrianFries
This didn't age well.😂 I wished too.
It's too expensive for offering nothing practical over the RAV.
Mazda, Hyundai, countless GM brand have shown people either want practicality or the luxury brand, not a tweener. If you're selling a niceish car without the luxury badge you are barking up the wrong tree.
I guess though it costs them like little since it's already in production for Asia.
Joseph this should’ve been the Lexus variant, not the Toyota variant
good Job Alex, best review on youtube as usual...
There is no convincing reason for people to buy it due to the strange combination of features. I doubt there will be a Prime version, and it quite possible that they will cancel it again.
The price difference of the passenger seat is a question of "how much do you love your spouse?"
Strangely compromised in too many areas for an offering with premium aspirations.
^^^YES^^^
Overall, I am very disappointed, too. It doesn't even do some things as well as the RAV4.
Another great review Alex! The Venza looks pretty good & MPG is great. However, for me the cargo space is too small and rear turn signals too tiny, hard to see, even unsafe IMO. Those are deal killers for me so this car will not be replacing my Outback!
They should of made it bigger like the previous Venza, but probably not feasible as they wanted to bring a new crossover to the US market fast due to the crossover craze we have going on. Rebadging the Harrier was most cost efficient option.
Own a limited trim. Car is comfortable even though I am 6’4”. A bit noisy on highway. Handles confidently on curves. Not a speedy car, but power is adequate even for passing. Cargo space is tight. Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is only OK - adaptive cruise control drops lead vehicle too easily and is slow to pock it up. Lane centering goes off unexpectedly. Overall car is good, but not great.
Four months later, my major complaint with the Venza limited is still Toyota safety sense 2.0. Next is the Nav system which is hopeless. And the road noise bothers me more than initially. Still am impressed with the throttle and braking which are responsive and very smooth.
@@johnbrews9724 thank you for the updates! how does it drive going up mountain highways? does it struggle passing big rigs?
The Rav4 is only one decibel louder.
It’s not a linear scale.
Is the windshield and side glass acoustic? I read that the wind shield would be. Curious about the side glass too. If they had out thicker glass in the rav it wouldn’t be so loud on the road.
It's not loud.
I read somewhere that the drivers seat doesn't tilt up & down. I'm 6'2" and I usually need to tilt the seat up on cars with no cushion extender to support my thighs and get comfortable. Can anyone confirm that the drivers seat doesn't tilt?
We got a limited about a month ago. Awesome car. We've been averaging 4.7l/100km ( around 50mpg) That's combined city/highway.
Americans average 39 mpg (Fuelly).
@@aliendroneservices6621 We haven't been less than 50mpg since we bought it. Americans are in more of a hurry than us. :)
My two main gripes are the lack of an actual opening moonroof and the placement of the rear turn/reverse lights.
What about that pressure pad climate control setup? Awful.
So don’t buy one.
Those turn signals are worrisome.
No volume control knob on 12.3 inch screen , not good.
No leather seats ?
I am disappointed.
So, you get to pay more for an admittedly nicer RAV4, which I was looking forward to, but it is not rated for towing as is the RAV4. You pay more, but don't get a nicer passenger seat. I am very disappointed. The seat would have been nice to have, but the lack of towing capability (even the same rating as the RAV4) is a deal-breaker for me.
What is it with Toyota and their grills? The front grill on the Venza looks cheap. The one on the RAV4 looks grumpy and the Lexus grill takes up the entire front of the car, which just looks ridiculous.
Is the Venza the same height as the RAV4 Hybrid or is it lower?
Toyota's lineup is solid with two compact (rav4, venza) and two midsize (4runner, highlander) suv.
The roof star gaze is it standard for the limited model or we have to pay for?
Yves Simard that is an extra cost option that is only available on the limited trim
The Venza has different batteries I'm not surprised it's doing better than the rav4
It's a pretty good compromise really, a much nicer interior and 40mpg for an extra grand or three.
4:34 eh yes! All those gallons lost due to a non-aerodynamic front of the Tacoma brother
Yes, the 2018 RAV4 also has a more aerodynamic front end than the 2019-2021 RAV4. Apparently style is more important than highway mpg. But in a hybrid mpg > style.
@@omelborpon3159 and it's one of the reason i will keep my 2013 rav4 , i hate the always ever increasing more agressive and truckish look of the suv categories , except for the very good looking car like front end of the new ford escape , unfortunately with ford unrealiability .
You have to wonder, why would anyone look at the Lexus NX anymore?
So they don't have to bring a Toyota badge to their children's private school student pick-up area.
More luxurious? drives better?
@@tinhinnh no and no
Dave In Canada yeah if you say so, buddy. but wow i didnt know you already got a chance to drive the new venza. please tell us more and why its nicer than the nx
Have had my Venza Limited 2 months.
Favorite features: Birds eye camera. Power side mirrors fold automatically on locking. Audio: Changing stations is voice controlled.
Most disliked. Lack of decent storage bins. No sunglass holder.
We would buy it again but with no one in the back seat, the sunroof is a waste of $ 1400.
I guess this new Venza will be discontinued soon as the older model did.
Meanwhile the Harrier (this Venza's original name) in Japan is got so much demand, it back-orders 15x higher than Toyota Japan's expectation.
I personally still dig the Venza styling, it's a good alternative choice for those who likes the elegancy of a Camry but still want the usability of a RAV4, without the rugged off-roady vibes of the RAV4. And I'm sure many would thought the same as I am, so I have good feelings that the Venza wouldn't be discontinued or replaced for the next 5-10 years or so.
You have to be pretty naive to think that specifications are the only thing that matter to car buyers.
Will definitely keep looking. Based on your honest review I can’t see how it’s worth anywhere near it’s asking price.
Thanks for another great review but unfortunately the Toyota Venza doesn’t seem to be a great value.
Does the fact that this vehicle is longer than the RAV4 reflect in a longer load floor. I would like to go camping and sleep inside.
The rav is a bit short. I am 6 feet tall. I can’t find this measurement in any online reviews. The floor does appear to be almost flat.
Quieter than the NX? Wow, didn't expect that. This really is a Lexus under the Toyota badge.
well the previous gen rx was a rebadged harrier
The current Lexus NX is based on the last generation RAV4 platform. So it doesn’t surprise me that it’s louder than the Venza.
Can we hear the cvt please. The constant talking is not necessary. Take a breath
Prefer the rav4 look and theme... but Toyota is definitely covering all the bases. When they go full electric, time to dump the Tesla stock
Save six grand and get the sanfa fe! any thoughts? And you can probably get a 3yrs old santa fe for amlost 2/3 of the price.
130 feet braking from 60 mph is a deal-breaker.
That really is an atrocious distance. Slow to move... slow to stop.
Get wider and gripper tires if you need better breaking performance.
James than u loose all that MPG but still horrible breaking distance
It already falls behind. Oh well rip Toyota. You’ll be missed 😞
What the he’ll is going on with interior and dash design. Absolutely horrible.
Car and Driver says it drives exactly like a RAV4H. I trust Alex more!
TFL Car on RUclips said the steering is pretty slow.
Me too. The C&D article was more like a blurb than an article. It was very light on details.
@@mart0225 the Venza does not go public u till September.
Even Alex on Auto's said Toyota would reveal battery and hybrid changes from the RAV4.
Been waiting for Alex to show this!👍🏾
Great review as always. Thanks Alex.
Do you think we could get a V6 version?
This. A V6 hybrid would have lit this vehicle on fire. People would have been naturally drawn to it..I can tell you the Crown signia needs a V6 hybrid.
very good automobile video presentation...very informative and useful review than most of the reviews found on RUclips these days.. I give it 5 star rating
This size category should not have been paired with the hybrid system from a size category down, it should have received the hybrid drivetrain from the new highlander
It's same size as RAV4.
Ro0ster is 5 inches longer, 2 inches taller, and almost a 100lbs heavier than the RAV4, it should have received the powertrain from the sienna. You don’t see Honda putting the CRV engine in the Passport
@@khachikhmayakyan2349 interior dimensions are actually smaller than RAV4, it's 1 inch shorter than RAV4 not taller. The Passport is just a shorter Pilot, both built on the same platform. The Venza is built on the same platform as the RAV4. The Passport is way larger than the Venza. Your argument makers no sense.
Ro0ster my arguement is about a 212 hp powertrain which feels only adequate in the RAV4 being used for a car that’s both dimensionally larger and substantially heavier. Now I’m not sure why you’re telling me the interior dimensions but putting the powertrain from your lower model into a midsize crossover (which the passport is also mind you) will lead to it being underpowered. In the end, it’s competitors (other MIDSIZED crossovers) will all have 250+ horsepower while Toyota relies on a hybrid powertrain narrowed from its compact SUV. The 0-60 numbers prove it.
@@khachikhmayakyan2349 the Venza is not a midsize crossover, it's a compact like the RAV4. It's only 92 lbs heavier than the RAV4 hybrid. Yes, it's 5 inches longer, but it's 1.1 inches shorter than the RAV4, which makes impacts its dimensions more so than the length. I don't think u understand, a Passport is a Pilot with the 3rd row removed. The Venza is just a fancier RAV4, I don't know why you're keep comparing them. The Venza aka Harrier was originally designed only for the Asian market, so a more powerful powerplant was never an option. 7.6 sec 0-60 on the Venza is perfectly fine. There might even be a Venza Prime in the future.
I don’t like it because it is not crossover any more and expensive
Once again the iPad on the dash is an eyesore again
The redundancy is redundant.
Why do most hybrids have bad stopping distances? Just add bigger breaks.
Heavier, regen brakes and eco tires for max fuel economy. Get wider grippier tires if you need.
Eco tires.
bigger what?
Please please please pretty please... Toh-yoh-tah, or Toy-oh-tah, not tuhhhyota
Sad it's not quieter than the RAV4. And considering the price up grade than the RAV4 the quality of materials is not as what I would expect.
Car and Driver says it’s 1db quieter than the RAV4 hybrid @ 70mph.
most buyers of this vehicle wont be for performance but for looks.
Great bang for the buck and Awsome looks.
Oh boy, they messed up.
Wish it had the 4 cylinder of the old Venza and was less expensive . That would be awesome .
Great review as usual. Especially the trim and other suv comparisons at the end help a lot.
What is the point of this car if the interior volume is not much more than a Rav4 ?
This will cost less with a V-6 engine and make it more luxurious
Toyota is the best. Unsurpassed reliability.
So a fancier Rav eh I'd wait for the new Sorento or upgraded Santa Fe.
Finally, another nice wagon! ;)
shhh! don't say the "w" word...
Looks pretty good, wish had a bigger engine option
I just wish Toyota would have given it the power out out of the Highlander hybrid
If they release a Prime version it would get the 300HP drivetrain from the RAV4 Prime.
@@Superfastjellyfish669 Yes, the premium price justifies a premium powerplant.
Right Lane Hog I agree but the interior definitely seem very well done for a now luxury brand vehicle
@@Superfastjellyfish669 Car and Driver did a very trenchant review of this new Venza today and I have to agree with them. Like them, I simply feel it is overpriced and offers reduced capability compared to the RAV4 Hybrid.
I'd be curious which you would choose between a Venza Limited and a Rav 4 Prime Limited assuming the Prime is even available. I know the Venza is a hybrid and the Prime is a plugin hybrid but I suspect they might attract some of the same buyers. I'm trying to decide between the two.

My experience with limited Venza is that road and wind noise are evident, even at low speeds. You have to be on a mirror smooth section of asphalt to avoid road noise.

Very disappointed given that it's a Toyota but this is all they can offer. I certainly hope the Sienna won't be as much of a letdown as the Venza/Harrier. Honestly I'd rather go with the Outback XT than the Venza at this point.
If I wanted the MPG gains, I'd rather just pick the RAV4 hybrid given the fact that cargo volume and passenger volume are far superior to the Venza. Then again I'd go with the Honda CR-V hybrid and skip Toyota completely any day of the year.
Underpowered. Why on earth everyone makes Underpowered crap like this in 2020 is beyond me. From my experience, here in Canada lack of power like this can absolutely put you at risk in bad conditions.
The RAV4 is superior in every way. The new Venza will flop just like the old one. Toyota should put more insulation and lithium batteries in the RAV4 and call it a day.
