Its really interesting, i once heard a friend of mine from Wuhan who constantly emphasize that every restaurants has a slightly different way of making hot dry noodles( Wuhan style noodles called 热干面), so Wuhanese always argue about which restaurant makes the best hot dry noodle in the city, but in the end everyone just loves the noodles made by the restaurants closest to their home. Also, any restaurant making expensive hot dry noodles are considered tourist traps and not suggested by the locals, so i think you guys actually find a good one!
Everyone always thinks their place is best, exactly the same with barber shops 😂😂
@@alanshannon3884 Wuhan could be named as Breakfast Capital of China. Just ask around and go to breakfast street where there're tons of vendors selling 100s of cheap breakfast of all kinds. They call them breakfast, yet many of them are actually sold throughout the day, such as Hot Dry Noodle. Alongside Hot Dry Noodle you just ate, one of the most iconic Wuhan breakfast items is called Dou Pi ( literally means tofu skin). It's a combination of small beef chops, fried glutinous rice, small pieces of bamboo tips and other pickles, covered with crispy bean-egg skin... Oh man, that is otherworldly tasty. It's almost unique, in a sense that you can't find it anywhere in the world, even other Chinese cities. Go try it.
湖工堕落街,真的是好吃好玩的地方,现在一去不复返了~~
Marco Polo and other traders most likely brought noodles and dumplings recipes back to Italy. When I was in rural Shanxi 20 years ago, I had the same reaction (despite being Chinese), the bowl of noodles was exactly spaghetti - tomato cuts + minced meat sauce. Makes sense if you look at entire Europe and only Italy eats "noodles" while most of East Asia consumes it for the longest time.

google "ancient roman diet", wheat pasta was never a part of their diet, they got it from China.

That makes sense.
The boss asked if you needed chili peppers, but you couldn't answer. After seeing that you didn't react, the boss began to ponder. I estimate he should have added very little chili, so as not to make you feel uncomfortable with the taste.😅😅😅😅
If you wonder why food and transport is so cheap in China, it is a socialist policy which made public transport, energy prices, food, health as affordable as possible. China is lucky as they now have a pragmatic govt. It is not common to see a good govt these days.

you are wrong, cause it is cheap even in the China
Because farmers aren't really taxed and are partially supported by various of policies and they don't export much food to keep the prices low
Not only farmers, literally all of small buseniss owners, by low small buseniss owners with monthly salary less than 100k CNY dont need to pay a simple coin as tax, and by fact, all of their small incomes like less than 1000 CNY, which is paied for by cash, wont attract any attention from anyone. China govm may still have some works to do to improve themself, but they r truly doing lot of works to make peopl'es lives better and ezier, as well. I really miss the food back in China. Britain is a gastronomic hell.
wouldn't call it hell, desert yes.
Wait, a bunch of HKers moved there though and opened many HK style restaurants, did you get a chance to try them?

China has various levels of lifestyle. If you live in a first-tier city, the cost of living may cost dozens of dollars a day, but in a rural area, the cost of living may not exceed one dollar a day.
I'd say Italian food like spaghetti looks like Chinese food because of Marco Polo... 😅
Well its generally accepted pasta came from china. Thats why they look the same
we are not allowed to use chopsticks to eat it.

Lovely jubbly! I hope you are continuing with your China series, these are very well received and even though I have only come across your channel, I seem to really look forward to your next episode. Its the authentic content that does it for me.
Wow for $0.50 you can’t even buy a lollipop in the US 😳
Really? It's price 0.5¥≈0.07$in China
China is not only tall buildings and neon lights. It has every nature and adventures that you have never thought of. Just do a little searching on other youtube creator.
They don't have enough time and money to explore, they are just tourists, have fun and don't need to know China deeply.
Thanks Alan and Shannon! You’re like professional food commentator to me!thank you so much for trying out these gourmet for us!
We love our food😋
you are such a lovely couple, always so energetic and curious. and very good comments to the food, actually
Great video again!
好想吃啊! you guys make me home sick now.. last time I was back to Wuhan my hometown was 2010.. can't wait to go back again!😋
Looking forward your Beijing trip video, cant wait to see 🤣
Good food for so cheap! Incredible!
What a great value-such nice meal for so little money! In the beginning of the video, right after Shannon ordered, the man from the restaurant asked if you wanted the red chili peppers.😊
Allan, spaghetti originates from China not Italy. You can thank Marco Polo for that.

Just Enjoy !
I watched Korean youtube in Shanghai. They tried roast spare ribs and do it yourself roasting kebobs which is amazing. It is just too many great dishes to list out.
Wow--thought you guys made your way back! Would love to provide a better bucket list for Wuhan since there's too many hidden gems that are not entered into the English lexicon.
Those noodles look amazing, very low cost too!!!
I know we couldn’t believe it, cheap and tasty!!!
Can we have some longer videos please?🥺
Five dollar you can see the spread. Your hotdog go up
I am sorry to say this is the FIRST TIME that i saw Alan and Shannon enjoy the noodle 110%, I bet they like it more than fish and chips.
I’ve had these noodles thousands of times! YET I am LOVING every second of watching your faces light up when you take the first bite! 🎉🎉🎉
That's famous hot and dry noodle! I wanna try it when I visit there.
We 100% recommend, you won’t regret it!
You can find great restaurants if they got long queue or so many people are inside, or those with "from 19XX" mark.
so so awsome
你俩太可爱了
Also, Baoshan Street and its adjacent area is one heck of a historical portion of the history of working class Wuhanese life--the Hanzheng St a few blocks down, literally "Wuhan Main St", was the most prosperous wholesale market and one of the most pivotal reason why Wuhan remained a focal point of trade. The prices for food therefore reflect the kind of people that made Wuhan what it is historically (a trading post awash with workers and small vendors).
@@TH-dr1kg no. The wet market is closer to the train station about 6-8km away.
As a Wuhaness,This noodle called Hot Dry Noddle, which is one of the most typical cuisine of Wuhan ,HOpe yall enjoy it.
筷子用得不錯哦👍
I always enjoy you guys food adventures, that noodle doesn’t have any meat and it’s a street food as well , that’s why so cheap
Obviously that was a restaurant not a street vendor. Noodle is a common food staple in China, eaten for breakfast, lunch or dinner. It's often served in full scale restaurants even the most upscale ones. Noodle is not considered a street food in China. If you consider noodle is just a street food then you're also saying spaghetti is also a street food, as we can see this style of noodle is where Italian spaghetti originated; you can go ask Marco Polo, he also said pizza and ice cream came from China!
@@Anonymous------ no way
I'm waiting for your Beijing trip video. lol
One more day!!
my hometown is also good at making noodles, but i have to say 热干面 does succeed for some aspects,it just fire the pleasure of eating carbohydrate
Yum
Why there is no drinks with the noodle?
I saw coke and other soft drinks in the vid by the restaurant front door
You guys went back to Wuhan? Haha, go to Guangzhou!
I once randomly bought some pot noodles that claims to be wuhan noodles from a Chinese supermarket and they taste absolutely amazing. It's a bit dry tho but the flavour is nice.
Through your description, I feel that the chef who makes noodles is an alchemist
几十年前在武汉上大学,校园一家小馆子的热干面两毛钱一碗,确实好吃。豆皮也非常棒,记得只吃过一次,好像在汉口。

@@user-jc8cy5tf2k trust me, we do, vpn is so easy to use.
It kind of irked me how a dish in Chinese is Italian Bolognese to them. Not everything has to be understood from a western culinary perspective. Chinese food has way long history than Italian food. It's almost insulting to say that a Chinese noodle dish looks like Italian, why not say Italian Bolognese looks like this dish. Who knows what Marco Polo has taken over to Italy from China if I want to compare it this way. I think an Italian would feel just as insulted if one were to say pasta looks like a copy of Chinese noodles.
lots of italian food come from china, spagetti pasta and pazza and dumpling are all from china through the silk road, marco polo made them famous, but i think its way earlier than his time, it is not from marco, but from silk road when the silk was introduced to roma ,the other chinese thing came too, china had noodle since BC700 ,
Lol I feel you 😂 but I guess they can only compare it to what they know
It's interesting
If there is a chance, come to Nanchang and mix the noodles for 3 yuan
He ask Shannon do you want chili for your noodles you smile at him
Hopefully one of the fans can treat Alan and Sharon with some fancy Chinese food. So far they have only tried street foods.
Shark fin soup, "Buddha-jumps-over-the-wall", braised sea cucumber, preserved "waxed" duck, century-egg congee, salted-fish minced meat patty, salted-duck-egg mooncake....
Not only the price is unheard of low but also it looks so delicious where I have not seen anything like that in the US. What a bargain! I can live there for a month just for the noodle dish …

I think they have beef dishes as well. Seems like you ordered the most basic "empty" noodle dish, the hot dry noodles. Good thing you didn't take him up on his offer of adding chilli sauce!
1:30 Noodles existed in China and Asia long before pasta appeared in the Mediterranean world, and the legend goes that Marco Polo brought pasta to Italy from China in the 13th century. This is what Goggle said.
Pizza and ice cream also came from China. Now there's evidence that hamburgers and "hot dogs" also originated in China.
you guys use chopsticks very well😄
You should have seen us the first time!
If you want to experience real Chinese cuisine, you need to find some small stir fried restaurants, which usually cost around 10 pounds and can stir fry 2-3 dishes. You eat things like baozi, various noodles, beef patties, chicken patties, and so on in China. More like a snack, or something usually only eaten for breakfast.
What I mean is, they cannot represent the characteristics of every city. Of course, Hot dry noodles can represent Wuhan
So affordable. Look delicious. Living expense is a lot lower in Asia.
You two were looking at each other, "5?" Really? OMG, unbelievable!🤣
来河南啊 zhengzhou
I think Marco Polos stole the Chinese noodle making techniques and brought back to Italy, LOL.
Yes, Chinese eat fresh noodles, no preservative. Downside does not last for a day without refrigeration.

虽然街边小吃很多,但是我还是推荐可以去一些大的饭店尝尝更正式的中餐。😂
What should we go try?
@@alanshannon3884 Which city are you in now, please?
@@alanshannon3884 Each region has its own regional cuisine, I recommend Jiangsu and Zhejiang food or Cantonese food for light dishes, Sichuan food for hot dishes, and of course Shandong food (former palace food).

I know you guys were just trying out stuff and didn't know what to expect. just know it's not unusual for people to order side dishes in addition to some carbohydrate filler. for example even if someone gets fried rice which could be eaten by itself, getting a side of boiled/stir-fried vegs is not atypical. it's a good way to try out different side dishes otherwise you'd just be eating one bowl type meals in china lol ;)
If you want to get the tiny bits in the bowl, put the bowl close to your mouth and use the chopsticks to shovel the bits into your mouth. No spoon necessary!
馋死我了😂以后这种视频不许晚上发😂

Marco Polo went to China and brought back noodles and wontons to Italy which became spaghetti and ravioli.😁

Wuhan boss said in local dialect: boil the noodle good! don't lose face lol
Wow that is so reasonable. I can’t believe. This makes me think this noodle is probably a side dish to pair with some meat dish as you suggested. An alternative to a bowl of rice probably
I guess the yellow ones are not tomatoes, but dried radish, a common side dish for Chinese noodles
5元,太便宜了😂

it's pickled turnip instead of tomato.😆
Ahhhh right! I would never have worked that one out thank you!
They asked your guys if need LaJiao ( Means chili), but you don't answer that. LOL.
Google Macro Polo and that will explain why Italian pasta can look like Chinese noodles. NOT THE OTHE WAY AROUND

Personally, I can't stand anyone wasting time before eating any Chinese mixed noodles (especially when they're hot), because hot mixed noodles tend to clump together easily. JAJAJAJA.

it's 50 pence i believe, 1 pound is less than 10 yuan, so 5 yuan is about 50 or 60 pence 🤭🤭🤭
5yuan to us$, add decimal = 0.5, add 50% = 0.75 (little under), but as sales tax is included and not tipping, a very good deal for two people.
