Just ran across your video. great explanation. My 1997 4runner was idling at 1,900-2,100 rpm hot. Pulled the TB and IAC and the valve was stuck and the coolant passway was completely clogged. Cleaned the IAC valve and coolant reassembled. Now idles at 700 RPM. You saved me at least $300. Thanks man!!
Hell yeah bro! So glad to hear it!
I love how you explain how things work, not just what you are doing, but why it is messing up
Great Fix on a minimal cost. Your explanation on the relearning process is RIGHT ON 💯👍💯👍
P.S. 3rd gen front
bearings replacement video?
Keep Up the Great Work 💪
Excellent video. Did the job today and, even with not having my tools ready, it only took an hour and a half. But, you certainly freaked me out about those damned Japanese Phillips screws!! I was EXTRA careful when I was removing them. But, after the first one got free, the thought crossed my mind, "Hey, I've been dealing with Japanese type screws my whole life! Why was I freaking out?" I had Japanese dirt bikes when I was a kid (a measly 55+ years ago), so lots of metric and Japanese Phillips screw. I didn't even know there was such a thing as a Japanese Phillips screw until today when I watched your video. Anyway, good job on the video!
Great video my dude. The proper name for the value you are referring to is called a butterfly flap. 🦋 because it is a disc shaped flap with a center pivot to regulate air flow better.
Excellent and very informative video! Great info on the "stripping" issue, as I nearly stripped one of the IAC bolts on my '99 4Runner. Come to find out that these bolts are not Phillips but rather JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard), aka "Japanese Phillips," which apparently have a more squared-off cross-shaped indentation than Phillips, hence, the tendency to strip when using a Phillips screwdriver. I took your advice on got the hex bolts! Thank you so much for the awesome video!!!
Where did you go to get the hex heads???
@@cachetada4611 It's been awhile now, but, if my memory serves me correctly, I picked them up at my local ACE hardware.
I'll need to try this. Going to clean the IAC before to see if it solves the issue before going and buying a new OEM one.
Very, very, very helpful information. Thank you for the free education.
Great l having the same issue on my 2001😢,l love this truck don't give me much trouble,l have do exactly same thing thanks, see you in a few
Thanks for this info! Awesome 👏
Thanks for the video mehn I got the same problem on ma car n this video helps a lot
Excellent video.
this was very helpful thank u 🔧🤙🏽
Glad to help mate!
Hey, my 02 4runner has been idling at 500 rpm’s and is very shaky in reverse and drive while at a stop. I removed my throttle body but it does not have an IAC valve. It appears to be a 02-04 tundra throttle body. Any idea what I can do or what it could be?
Very helpful man thanks !!!
Good job, a very useful video
Thanks! Glad to help👊
good job brother will share a little knowledge with yea anything coming out of japan use JIS tools true on the bikes aswell look for the dot on the Phillips head use JIS keep up the good work---cheers
My car was idling at 1500RPM... My mechanic said he cleaned the IAC valve yesterday but now it's idling at about 1800RPM.
Hey any chance you could tell us what bolt you replaced the Philips with? Like the thread and size. Other than what you already mentioned, it being an 8mm head
Great info, thanks!
Awesome video! I just changed the IAC valve - put a new one in and the vehicle is doing the same thing! What else can it be? Fuel Pump? Filter?
Will shooting throttle body cleaner in the intake touch the IAC at all?
Great work and smooth solved
Can u please share the gaskets part numbers.
Very good video
Great video 👍👌💥😊
Thanks brotha👊💯
how do i get it to idle higher? Mine idles at 600rpm but the high-output alternator produces power at over 1K rpms.
Thank you body for the video my Respects to you
Excellent.
Glad to help🔥
Need advice. I've replaced fuel filter check Purge valves mass flow sensors and I'm still having a stalling out issue the only thing I haven't replaced is the IAC valve that I just ordered most likely need some reassurance that I might finally get it?
Hi Victor, did you figure it out? Hopefully you did since it's been awhile since your comment. If it's been awhile since last tune-up, always easy to replace spark plugs, clean mass air flow sensor, air filter, and check for any vacuum hoses for leaks too. My hoses are cracking and need replace soon.
I have a 98 4runner and sometimes while im at a light 🚦 and the light turns green i hit the accelerator and the car revs but doesnt move like if it was on Neutral but its on drive. Its been happening quite a bit now. What could this be? Someone please help
I was replacing the leaking valve cover gaskets on my T100 and tried to remove the screws on the IAC valve but they were just too tight. PB Blaster didn't help at all. Did you use a JSI screwdriver? Also, what are the exact dimensions of the stainless steel bolts that you replaced them with? Did you get them at Home Depot or Lowe's?
If they're too tight you can always notch out the heads with a Dremel and use a flat-head. I got the new bolts at a local hardware store. As long as you bring in the old screws to match up the threading you should be good to go
when I sale my used vehicles, I do not warranty anything, leaving whatever problems that happen aftwards up to the buyer..
Nice video. What was the light you had under you hood? Would love a link for that too.
Thanks man! The lights are from Scarab Offroad. You can buy them through optoffroad.com
Is this a 4 or 2 WD?
You should make video of you're 4runners the custom build you have done to them and mods if any!
It'll come soon;) Thanks for the suggestion!
Can’t you just take the IAC off without taking the whole throttle body out?
My third gen Toy idled around 1500 in park, after I replaced the IAC. Just put in a new TPS and the bitch jumped to 2200 after a few minutes. Difficult to get her to start again.
Guessing I have to recalibrate these sensors through driving, like you mentioned in final thoughts. I don't have a scanner...
How long do you have to drive it before it programs? I'm afraid that the idle is too high to be driving around, but I don't want to manually adjust it just yet.
So a few things here. First check to make sure you didn’t somehow dislodge the throttle cable. I did it once where the throttle cable was stuck around the wheel and it idles high.
Assuming that’s not the case, try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes (the longer the better honestly). This will reset the computers so they learn from scratch, rather from your past settings…
@@PartimeOverland I have this same problem. I cleaned my throttle body and IAC valve and now have 1500 idle in park and neutral, and 1000 idle in drive while stopped. I had the battery disconnected the entire time I did the cleaning job, wouldn't that be sufficient so that it would learn from new?
Or, is this an ECM problem? The ECM still retains the old information even if the battery is disconnected? I'm thinking we might need to be pulling the ECM fuse, or something? To reset it?
Because I've been driving my truck for 4 days now since doing the cleaning, and it's still idling just as high in park and neutral.
That's why the guy above asked, HOW LONG do we need to drive the truck until the ECM starts resetting the IAC valve bringing the idle down in park and neutral?
Is is a week? 2 weeks? a month?
Where’s the link for the gaskets
i have a toyota 4runner 1999 when in to the normal temperature the rpm going low and sometimes the car turn off
Sounds like the same issue! I'd give the IAC a good cleaning
Where is the link for where he got his gaskets?
Yes I am wondering the same…. Links please???
Two years later, still wondering
What would you say the problem is if it's sluggish going down the road and smelling gas fumes with the iac code on the computer
Hmm. I'd definitely look up the code it's throwing. Maybe some evap related issue? The IAC shouldn't be causing any gas smell...
What did you end up finding??? I have similar issue
Response is most likely too late, but its prolly an exhaust issue, my 4runner does the same thing, and my exhaust pipe just rusted off, so I'm gonna put a new one on, and hopefully that fixes it
If it's open too far it won't idle and will stall and won't close when warm and if it's to close it won't get extra air when cold and will probably stall too
At least on the 3vze on the 2nd gen idk about the 3rd
Yes for sure! It can cause all sorts of weird engine related symptoms
Mine used to rev high i replaced the maf sensor now it almost stalls at cold start gone clean out the IAC and throttle body soon.
Lemme know how it goes! Should do the trick
@@PartimeOverland yup cleaned the throttle body she's running good as new.
@@BuenasVibras909 I cleaned my throttle body and had to replace the tps sensor and still getting code p0120 any suggestions???
@@RAGSFROMTEXAS might be a stretch but could be a faulty tps sensor from the factory, maybe try returning it and trying a different brand if you didn’t get OEM
@@maxlozovinskiy4141 I wasthink it was the pedal sensor maybe
01-02 are different
I dont think this guy does any maintenance to his vehicles, that is one of the worst throttle bodies i've seen in a long time
His pcv is probably toast
Pretty good video but never assume and never mislead your audience by telling them replace the Phillips head bolts with hex head bolts cause THEY WILL NEVER STRIP OUT as many of us know damn well those strip out too .🤙🏼
Sorry what? I'm honestly really confused on what you're trying to say...
