Thanks again, after replacing my air intake hose I followed this video to clean my throttle body and IAC. It was very dirty with 238k but it cranked right up and runs great. Thanks also to the folks who left comments and tips. 2000 prerunner V6.
Hands down, one of the best produced instruction vids on YT. Hats off to your cameraman too. Subbed to your channel and looking forward to browsing other material.
Wait a minute, first, "this hose" is a coolant hose, a warning about that is warranted...possibly even pinching off that hose. Secondly, why would you ever suggest using carburetor cleaner? Carb cleaner is heavily concentrated with ether, and ether will eat away at the coating applied to all fuel injected vehicles in latter years to reduce carbon buildup. Use throttle body cleaner only for this task. Why not explain why that oily buildup exists in the upper intake plenum? If you're at this point, you might as well suggest at the very least replacing the pcv valve....a warning about the high idle speed and the relearn of the tps would be nice. Not to nitpick, but if you're doing "pro" content....
Did this job recently. Spent a lot more time cleaning my ISCV. Tip- remove gasket so it does not get cleaner on it. Mine got swollen and could no longer fit. Now idle is very high and I am trying to bring it down. It used to fluctuate a lot and more recently it was cutting off and triggered check engine light.
Hello,I have Toyota Corolla Fielder motor 1.8 1ZZE, I did a test, I removed the rubber from the air filter, so I had access to the throttle body, I started up and gradually covered the air intake that enters the IAC valve, as the covers stretch to stop until when completely covered, the engine stops. But I can't find the fault, which is that it starts and as it warms up the rpm goes up to almost 2000 rpm. Then when driving on the street or highway, if you leave it in neutral, the rpm goes up to 2000 and goes down to 1000 until in a moment if I stop the car they go to 2000. A query, I made contact, I measured the female card of the IAC with tester and 12 volts to the positive (black cable) arrive at the connector, nothing to the ground cable and the other signal 0.14 volts and the signal 0.14 volts..., I also tell you that if I disconnect the connector from the IAC, the car runs and does the same problem. I am very concerned that it may be the ECU that may be sending an inappropriate voltage. thanks for your help
03 Tacoma 4 banger here. It’s got kind of a rough idle. I plan to do this. Needs a new catalytic converter as well. Other than that runs like a damn horse. Will update if this helps the idle. 190k miles.
probably wouldn't lose enough coolant to warrant bleeding the system. if ya need to, top up coolant level if it has gone down. otherwise take it for a drive and check once its cooled down again.
This is a good video thanks for posting. I have a 02 Tacoma and will be doing the same service with confidence because of your videos. Thank you. And this music 🎶 wasn’t to bad.
My IAC is corroded to the tb from a coolant leak. Three of the screws that hold the IAC to the tb won't budge. How would you get those off? I only managed to remove one screw out of four.
How play should there by with the butterfly? Mine moves in and out if I pull it when it's not running. I mean pulling toward the front of the truck. There is noticeable play from side to side of the throttle body. Truck has 585K miles.
You say to use carburetor cleaner. Shouldn't it be throttle body cleaner? Also do you reuse the old gaskets, even the metal one? One last question. How often should this be done? Great video.
Cleaned mined while ago but keeps hard starting cranks alot no engine light changed fuel pump tps sensor plug wires and fuel regulator but still hard starts even when its warm or cold sometimes starts right up but very rare can this be the problem? Thinking of putting new iac
What about spraying cleaner on that IAC gasket? Wouldn’t that damage the rubber gasket? That metal throttle body gasket is a one time use gasket , it crimp seals when the throttle body is reinstalled.
I got same motor but my tb doesnt have that iac deal on it at all. Wtf? I confused.. my cruise ctrl works electronically also. Is an 03.. has a little motor inside and all.. thought that was odd but now i know its odd.. wonder if the tb was replaced with a newer models.. but the wiring wouldnt have been there.. just confusing myself more.. i know it wasent an option from factory..
Good video. I must say, however, that carburetor cleaner may adversely affect certain kinds of rubber gasket, causing them to swell and/or crack, so I generally use citrus based solvents, which do not contain alcohol or petroleum based solvents. (I have made this mistake before :) ). Thank you for your high quality video, I loved the in depth and easy to follow instructions.
I have a tacoma 2002 2.7-liter 4-cylinder engine does not have light on but the accelerator pedal is a bit heavy and birds do not accelerate as it would be what the problem would be
Is it standard to service it without symptoms, preventative? Would verifying proper functional elec test only be done if it's not working right? Thanks for making the vid!
It's a 3.4v6 5vze... Excellent video. I like how you make it really easy to see all the bolts, etc. you have to remove. Seems you forgot to mention you need to drain the coolant a lil, so coolant doesn't flow out of the hose you removed from the IAC. Or you can also not drain the coolant and just hold the hoses up above the coolant level with tape or a hose clamp. Your choice.
Next, you're left with a high idle after cleaning! Uggh! That's what happened to me! Before cleaning, car was shutting off at stops, after cleaning, now a 2000 idle on cold start and 1500 idle once warmed up in park and neutral, 1000 rpm in drive was warmed up. Been driving the 1998 4runner for 2 weeks, nothing's changing. Don't know what to do. Unhooked battery for an hour but that did nothing. : ((
@@carloscastaneda6948 I just kept driving it, and now it's better. It's still higher than it should be, but it's better. It's been 5 months, so I guess it takes the 4runner a TON of TIME to slowly relearn the correct opening of the idle air control valve on idle.
@@carloscastaneda6948 So are you saying you cleaned the AIC, then had the high idle, then replaced the sensor with a new one, and everything was fine? That actually sounds like that might work, giving it a new sensor probably forces it to reset everything. I tried all the techniques to reset it, but nothing worked. I suppose if I just keep driving it another 6 months it will FINALLY relearn and adjust itself to perfect.
Sorry to bother you I have a question I was removing the radiator on my car and my throttle body was exploded I accidentally dropped a small amount of coolant into it and it went down what should I do
If you are worried that coolant is in your engine, I would take the spark plugs out and crank it slightly and watch how much comes out of the spark plug holes. Then I'd change the engine oil to be on the safe side. Thanks for watching!
Nice video, however, do not use carburetor cleaner. Instead use throttle body cleaner. Carb cleaner leaves deposits whereas throttle body cleaner does not and is made just for this job.
Listen to this guy. Throttle body cleaner leaves a dry lubricant behind and as another commenter mentioned its not too harsh for on plastics or throttle position sensors and iac valves
scott fresiher I have not yet done this, but supposedly it “learns” how to control idle again after cleaning. Just gotta drive around for a while, I have heard.
It happens a lot.. but should go away after a minute or two. Try shutting the vehicle off and restarting it if not. You also could have coated one of the sensors with the cleaner spray which is causing it to misread... should go away too after a minute unless you used something like brake cleaner on your intake parts (don't recommended).
hello i had a bad TPS throttle control sensor then i replaced with a aftermarket one it only last like a week do you guys think i should check something else???
why does look like the mirror opposite of my 2000 2.4 4 cyl ? In this video the throttle cables are coming from the driver side unlike my vehicle where they are coming from the passenger side.
Hi there, so my flap isn't closing all the way on my 2001 tacoma throttle body & its causing idling issues, can I fix it or do I nd a new one? Thanks in Advance
Isn't closing, or there's space around it when it is closed? There may be an adjustment screw for the tilt action limit of the plate. (I haven't checked) OR It's apparently common among these Toyotas that a gap forms between the throttle plate and the bore of the throttle body housing. I just saw guys in a forum mention using a business in FL called MaxBore for doing a re-bore/plate service on their throttle body and it solving the idle issues. I'm chasing the gremlins too. Good luck
You could look at it as PM but really I only do it when the vehicle is idling rough or throwing a throttle actuator trouble code. I even fixed a pedal positioning sensor code once by doing this. Thanks for watching!
Great video. The 2004 3.4 v-6 has a different throttle body. It doesn't have the iac on the bottom of the TB. Still a good idea to remove the TB and do a good cleaning.
I wouldn’t say the first thing is the electrical plugs considering I have an entire air take hose in the way. Definitely didn’t know or need to see how to take that off
I cleaned the throttle plate on one of these without removing the throttle body from the truck. I would caution anyone who does so to spray the cleaner on a shop rag. Do not spray cleaner into the throttle opening. Dissolved crud will run into the IAC, necessitating removal of the throttle body.
My truck is throwing the check engine light and idling high/rough occasionally, it comes and goes. Last time my truck did this it was winter and it idled really high (behaviour is not quite the same this time). Last time toyota dealer sourced a used throttle bottle as they cited a sensor as the issue and said they were not replaceable on their own. A) is that true? B) My mechanic (not toyota dealer) said the current error is associated with O2 sensor, but said as long as it is running okay to just leave well enough alone. Is it possible that current issue is a dirty throttle body? It was replaced 5 years ago and has had less than 10,000 miles on it since that time.

all good, but missed re-installing the 3rd throttle cable off the throttle body -

Thanks for the helpful video.A comment about installing new gaskets would be good. There is a plier that is for those pesky hose clips.
yes; the throttle mounting gasket is thin metal and is 'crushed' to make a good seal, so a new one is needed when re-attaching the throttle body...
320k miles on my 2002 Tacoma pre runner probably should do this.
338K on my '02 Tacoma, I just did this work and had a beer afterwards.

Very well done short and to the point in very understandable language.
Does antifreeze run through the IAC? I’m asking because when I removed my hoses antifreeze came out.
Yes through bottom of IAC.
Yes, he only showed one water line being disconnected. Shoddy at best.
Does this fix engine stalling and rpm fluctuations while coasting in neutral
Great vid. Did this yesterday but your vid is way better than the one I watched
Thank you so much for watching!
Do you have to bleed the system after putting everything back to place since some of the hoses where coolant runs were disconnected?

Since it was all cleaned out, will it cause the idle be high now? If so do you adjust the idle or just restart the battery?
It will should self adjust. Thanks for watching!
If you have done this service and still getting a code for the IAC do you replace it to remedy?
What about spraying cleaner on that IAC gasket? Wouldn’t that damage the rubber gasket? That metal throttle body gasket is a one time use gasket , it crimp seals when the throttle body is reinstalled.
some in other videos suggest doing it upside down and wipe the crud away with clean paper towels to prevent entering the iac.
Why didn't you test the IAC valve before you reinstalled it ?
Usually works after a service. If it still didn’t work then I’d replace it. Thanks for watching!

Yeah. It is typically the same thing. Thanks for watching!
