Hungary was never part of the Sovietunion, but was part of the Warsaw Pact, so belonged to the Communist system - not because ever want to be there, but because was occupied and was forced by the Sovietunion since 1945 to 1989. But in my opinion Vienna very expensive, Prague very crowded, Budapest is the best. (Of course other cities in the region are also interesting, but they are much smaller places - Krakow , Bratislava etc. Belgrade belonging to a different region, it's the Balkans.) @@PoJoTheBackPacker Indeed as the Soviet Union occupied Hungary in World War II and they stationed their army in Hungary until 1990, but they never incorporated Hungary into the Soviet Union. There was a bloody uprising in 956 to get rid of them but then they just came back with more tanks and soldiers and set up a puppet goverment again. Hi! The video approaches Heroes' Square from behind. In Heroes' Square, the columns feature important kings, starting with the founding king. The statues of the seven conquering leaders are in the middle, at the bottom of the column. On top of the column is a statue of Saint Michael. He is currently being repaired. This is his first repair since 1901. 9:11 The original of Vajdahunyad Castle is now in Romania. They advertise it as Corvin Castle. The birthplace of a popular king. Matthias Church is named after him. His coat of arms, the raven, is visible on the curch towers. His statue is in the colonnade of Heroes' Square. He wears a laurel wreath on his head. He was already depicted like this during his lifetime, so this is not a later fad. 9:55 Jáki Chapel. A consecrated church, but rarely used. It copies the Ják Church in Vas County. The original church was built around 1220-1256, one of the few churches left from that era. There are also two Dracula statues in the area... The eponymous Vlad III was a contemporary of King Matthias. Vlad was even a prisoner of Matthias. Vlad was probably a sadistic madman. But he was not a prisoner because of his sadism. He betrayed his ally Matthias several times.Although he was a sadist, he could not turn into a bat. This is Bram Stoker's invention. He mixed up the werewolf legend, the vampire legend, and the historical figure. I note that an orientalist named Ármin Vámbéry told him the basic story. Vámbéry is not just anyone. He traveled in Inner Asia, cut off from the outside world. He was the first to get out of there. At that time, outsiders in that area were either killed or sold into slavery... That palace is the building of the Agricultural Museum. The Danube River is an international waterway. So all kinds of ships use it. Recently, a pushed barge broke loose and caused damage to several port facilities.... Large excursion boats come regularly. There is also a small boat route within Budapest. The Halászbástya/Fisherman's Bastion was never a military building in this form. It was a civilian area from 1874. The current complex was built from 1874 to 1895. It got its name from the area between it and the Danube River. Many fishermen lived in this part of the city (Viziváros/Water town). It suffered damage in World War II, but this was repaired. There is also a nice view of the parliament building from the Batthyány tér metro stop. The stop is directly opposite the building on the Buda side of the Danube. In Hungary, the use of bank cards is common. You can pay with cash or card. Something tells me this is not the last time you will be here.
@@PoJoTheBackPackerThe other metro lines had the soviet influence and used the same type of cars as the Moscow metro. The old line remained different, probably it does not have enough height in the tunnel.
The Vajdahunyad Castle in Budapest is a replica, built in 1896 for the Millennium celebrations and made permanent by 1908. Its style is a mix of Gothic, Romanesque, Renaissance, and Baroque, combining elements from various historic Hungarian buildings, including the original Vajdahunyad Castle. The original castle is located in Hunedoara, Romania (formerly Vajdahunyad, in Transylvania). It was built in the late 14th century and significantly expanded during the 15th century under John Hunyadi. Its style is primarily Gothic, with later Renaissance and Baroque additions. As for Transylvania, it was part of Hungary for about 1000 years until the Treaty of Trianon in 1920, when it was ceded to Romania.
It's funny that you didn't know that Budapest has a metro. Then I'll tell you that it was the first electric underground, or metro, in the world! The very first in the world!

The castle you are seeing in the park (Vajdahunyad castle) has never been occupied by royals/nobles. It was first built from wood in 1896 for the 1000th anniversary of the "magyars" settling in the region. It was an exhibition. The wood structures were then demolished and rebuilt from stone. So it was purpose built to be a museum/exhibition from the get go. Buda castle is the historical castle.

The communist takeover of power can be expected from the so-called blue-card elections of 1947.
