The song is about dreams and nightmares that Alex Lifeson had. Though it's an instrumental, it tells a story, and the different sounds for various sections is due to the 12 different parts this song is broken down into.
La Villa Strangiato (An Exercise in Self-Indulgence)"
    I. "Buenos Nochas, Mein Froinds!"
II. "To Sleep, Perchance to Dream..."
    III. "Strangiato Theme"
    IV. "A Lerxst in Wonderland"
    V. "Monsters!"
VI. "The Ghost of the Aragon"
    VII. "Danforth and Pape"
VIII. "The Waltz of the Shreves"
IX. "Never Turn Your Back on a Monster!"
    X. "Monsters! (Reprise)"
    XI. "Strangiato Theme (Reprise)"
    XII. "A Farewell to Things"

This is their instrumental masterpiece! It was inspired by a nightmare that Alex (guitarist) once had. I wish you could've found the Rio version not only because the sound is better, but you get to see more of Alex's personality.
    Glad you liked it, bro!🤘🎸🤘🎸🤘🎸

My favorite instrumental by Rush and of all time actually. All three members are absolute master's of their respective crafts! Geddy and Neil have always got their recognition for being the top musicians of their instruments, but for some reason Alex never has. It has always escaped me why this is. He is criminally underrated!! Any time they play an instrumental, whether this or something like YYZ, or watching Neil do a drum solo, it seems like they are all just showing off. Great stuff from true legends!!

I was looking for some tunes, zigged when I shoulda zagged, and ended up here. But as an old(57) Rush fan since 1975, it tickles this old mans heart to see another generation of my own misspent youth.
Neil Peart(RIP), the drummer and Lyricist of the band, joined them in July 1974, one month before they would play the biggest concert of their lives at the Agora Ballroom in Cleveland Ohio. Neil was an avid reader and wrote songs like the books he read. Songs had "Chapters". A beginning, middle and end. RUSH became masters of using their instruments to be the describer of action sequences in a song and change of pace transitions to signify one chapter ending and another beginning. They became masters of "Concept songs". I recently made a song with video links for another youtuber reactor and I'll share it with you. RUSH has a music catalog that spans 40+ years. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013. Neil Peart passed away from brain cancer in January of this year.

Some of the intricacies lost on some of these old live recording but still great. I believe this is from the don Kirshner rock show in the 70’s.

Rush's songs are so perfectly orchestrated, especially considering they are only three people. Their instrumentals are truly great. The first side of the album Hemispheres is among their best instrumental work. And YYZ (especially from the "Exit Stage Left" concert album, with Neil's drum solo) is incomparable. Even so, you have to check out their songs with lyrics, most of which were written by Neil Peart; try, among others, Freewill, Natural Science, The Trees, Jacob's Ladder, Camera Eye, Xanadu, Closer to the Heart and Limelight, just to name a precious few. There is a reason he was called "The Professor." His memory will always be for blessing.

Glad you are digging the Rush. I'm digging your reactions! If you are looking for more, may I suggest some of the bands other classics... "Tom Sawyer". One if not the biggest hit for them. "Red Barchetta" an amazing story about a car. You may want the lyrics for that one to totally appreciate it. And 'Subdivisions" A song about suburban life and the divides we all at one time or another have had to deal with.

No, you have no words for this song. Just embrace it, own it, it's fine. "Great song" doesn't really do it justice but it's a start. That said, I would recommend that you listen (for your own purposes) to the STUDIO version. Listen to the definitive version, that came from the album "Hemispheres". Then, you'll begin to understand and maybe find the vocabulary needed to explain WHAT. JUST. HAPPENED. :) Welcome to the club!

CLASS DISMISSED!!! LOL And the thing is - this was early 80's! They sold out concerts throughout their career, including their final R40 tour in 2015! AND THEY GOT BETTER WITH AGE!!! Hard to believe! Check out the live Working Man in Cleveland! It's their encore tune for the show, and they were all in their 60's!!!

So Neil Peart was so revered as a drummer, DW the company that builds his kit, came upon 1500 year old oaks, and offered them to him for his final tour. These were the last drums he played . you can watch the video here.ruclips.net/video/gzt-PaR0XUw/видео.html
