Hi Adriel! As a 64-year old woman I have been loving your channel and insights. I truly wish I had your fashion sensibility. I know it takes time and real effort to develop your degree of mastery. I’m not sure that women lose themselves as we age though. I know I didn’t but what I did do was get a PhD while working full time,start and run a manufacturing business, and raise a family. The kind of time I am now investing in paying attention to fashion simply was not available to me then. Women carry so much and fortunately not all of us carry the same things. You are carrying fashion and sharing it with the rest of us. I’m so thankful!! PS: your mom raised you so clearly she’s a star!
My mom is great. I love her so much. Thank you so much for that perspective. I feel like I’ve seen some of my friends lose themselves a bit once they married. Some (not all) became almost different people overnight. I think each had a slightly different reason for that happening but it’s hard when you’re all single in your 20s and then one day, wake up, everyone is married and they don’t understand why you don’t want to come to the pumpkin patch. Not that the change in priorities is bad or wrong or anything, but I do have some friends that I barely recognize anymore; thats what I was thinking about. And I’m not explaining it super well in this comment so please give me some grace. 🙏🏾

I didn’t marry until I was 30 (and would have been just fine waiting longer) so I recall seeing exactly what you are talking about. :-) For me I don’t see changing as necessarily losing but it certainly can be so you aren’t wrong there. Personally it really came down to time and skill set. For much of my working life I would trust people like my personal Nordstrom specialist to tell me what was in, what was not, and, of those what would work on me. I simply did not have time to do otherwise. Now I do have a bit more time so I can actually start to pay a bit more attention and I’m paying attention to you. You are great. Thank you!
How I dress now being retired and 67 is: I choose one item I want to wear that day and plan an outfit around it. Most of the time it's one of my designer bags👍then of course comfort

Merci. Imagine me 3 years old refusing to get dressed because her pink undershirt was clean but the matching pink underwear weren’t. Literally my mom would be trying to get me to wear the pink undershirt and yellow underwear and I would refuse. My mom said she bleached everything so it was white. The morning meltdowns were too much. Hahaha. And IM STILL THAT WAY!! Haha

I did a diploma in dress design when I left school but didn't stay in the business as, unlike you, I didn't live & breathe fashion. We all made our clothes back then, bought the fabric & worked from a pattern. Clothes were unique & crafted, then came mass market clothes. I love your commitment to the industry
Having retired in 2022 I had a closet of business clothes that don't really fit my current lifestyle. So I have slowly been letting things go that I don't foresee myself ever wearing again.
Just this week I found at least 4-5 business dresses and I just wondered "why are these still here." Alas, I'm trying to sell them or give them away because I just don't foresee ever wearing them again either. But, I have to say, that's one of the things I learned after I quit my law firm gig before then going in house - I needed to devote a smaller portion of my wardrobe to strictly work clothes and more to clothes I could wear in more situations.
Excellent points. I'm in my mid-60s and have been a chameleon when it comes to style since I was a kid. I don't get stuck in a rut, but keep my styles fresh and moving. I'm also not afraid of bright colors, patterns, etc. Plus, there's a lot of fashion freedom and creativeness where I live. For me, fashion is a state of expressing one's self, not a state of staidness. And I'm stickler for dressing to my body type and height, so I have to go with an hourglass body type and over 5'6" (171cm) in height in a U.S. size 8 or 10. If the clothes don't flow, then it's a no go. Clothes need to also fitted properly. There's a reason for tailors/seamstresses. Use them! Greetings from Los Angeles

@@adrielfelise Yep. Agreed, And I think that one problem is that when some women age and start to look beyond their years, it's because their clothing is not fitted which gives off a frumpy look. I'm happy that I come from a very stylish family and also live where I live. I was taught how to style clothing when I was a small child. My mom is nearly 100 and is still incredibly stylish. She always said and still says to look "presentable" before walking out of one's front door as one never knows whom one might run into as it could be one's boss or possibly a future employer. But, this train of thought is a big part of your and my culture and also has to do with such words of wisdom being passed down from our elders. You're a young person with a lot of great common sense. I follow probably ten vloggers from basically age late 20s and above in order to see what clothing pieces are out on the market and then I can buy and style them myself. It saves me time of having to constantly go to the stores and small boutiques to look. Plus, I order a lot of my clothing/footwear/handbags online and have regular websites that I've used for years. It also helps to create fashion mood boards. I have personal fashion mood boards stored on my Mac. I can get dressed in an hour or less for any type of occasion as I just pull up a mood board created with clothing items that I have in my closets. And I also use them for future fashion concepts. Great advice. To be honest, there is not enough content out there helping us 60+ y/o...I'd love to see more videos on this from you. Summer Dresses are hard because of all the thin straps ( how do you wear a bra and strapless bras don't cut it at this age). Design a Summer dress for us 60+ and and watch it fly out of the store.
Since my mom is 60+ I’m always giving her makeovers even from afar. I tell her to opt for cap sleeve dresses. She can still wear a bra with it but it’s not a full short sleeve. Plus, she’s petite like me, so I tell her to have it hit at the knee and for her to look for dresses that have a silhouette that defines her waist (makes it look cinched a bit) this way it hides the weight she has in the middle. But maybe, if she’s up to it, I can do a styling session with her when I go visit her this year.

There are French classes you can take at your town hall (aka Mairie). I signed up to take my classes through that. It's been good and I've learned a lot - my particular class has been a good mix of grammar and conversational. I was definitely challenged, however, I think I'm going to sign up for the classes at the Sorbonne. I've heard they're really good and I really need to speak French by the end of this year. I do not speak enough French at home nor do I watch as much French tv as I used to nor do I read as much French as I used to. I've become a bit lazy, which is not good for me.
I really liked your approach to this topic. I will spend a little more on certain pieces in my wardrobe because they hold up better and look better on me. I would rather have less pieces and better quality.😊

Yeah, I think my views on what it means to "dress for your age" have been very heavily influenced by my mom (baby fashionista) and her mom (the ultimate fashionista) and, of course, my life experiences so I just wanted to share some thoughts in a non-judgmental way. We're all doing our best out here.
I honestly didn't know people were still saying dress your age. For me dressing isn't an age but everything in modesty and reason and good taste. How can we put an age on modesty? All women regardless of age should use this simple approach to dressing and they'll never go wrong. When it's 115 degrees in Phoenix Arizona who can say older women wearing shorts isn't modest? People do the most attempting to put an age on how women ought to dress. Anyway maybe most women are way to young to be dressing a certain type of way meaning older women aren't wrong in their choices at all!
There have been a ton of videos lately on other social media sites where women in their 20s are telling women in their 30s and 40s to get off social media and dress their age. But, as I said in the video, I don't believe we should be telling women what they should and shouldn't wear nor do I think we should be judging what anyone else is wearing. Instead, it's about each of us to understand our personal style and focus on keeping our wardrobes flexible as we move through this thing called life.
A 65 yo woman might want to feel sexy still but shd not wear high heels, minis, low cut blouses, or shorts. Not attractive. I would never wear now at 67 what I wore at 37! Just accept it! Ya we are different every decade, acceptance and age appropriate dressing makes women naturally sexy, not trying so hard which is unsexy really at any age. Good video👍 in my 20s and 30s I loved floral dresses, Laura Ashley, now at my age Id look like an 80 yo frump if I wore those lol😂neutrals and simplicity on me is best now👍
Hahaha. Look our style has to change at some point. I mean those short little denim shorts just don’t hit right for me anymore. I just don’t feel comfortable in them like I did when I was younger so, you know, off they go to a younger cousin.
Your mom is fortunate to have a daughter, well versed in style, to give her advice. Maybe this indicates an underserved population on line. (a business idea or seried) . Where would your mom get new ideas without you as a resource? Can you give some source suggestions for the 50+ crowd, especially those who aren't offline shoppers?

A few other creators that I follow on Instagram include: Grece Grenhem (based in Paris & NYC), Dominique Baker (US based I think), and Holly Phan (based in DC). Holly's motto is #stylehasnoage. It's taken a bit of time, but my mom finally recognizes that I have a really good sense of style so she at least now listens to my fashion suggestions.
