  • In this episode of Charcoal grilling for beginners, I will show how to light charcoal without a Chimney starter. No lighter fluid needed. In my experience this has been the easiest way, and it will take you up to 15-20 minutes to have a decent heat going.

    He says he's going to light charcoal without a chimney, but then uses a cooker that's basically an over-wide inefficient chimney. Just use a tubular chimney until the coals get going and dump them out in a regular grill. He's spent 14 minutes getting to the point where he says he can add more charcoal and get ready to cook. With a regular chimney, I'm eating by that time. Google charcoal chimney if you've never seen one. Once you try it, you'll never go back! Nightly cook-outs become as quick and easy as stove-top.

    • @PitmasterOntheWay
      @PitmasterOntheWay  3 года назад +6

      Haha well I did not think my kettle would act as chimney, so in that sense you are right lol. I totally agree with you, a chimney starter gets the job done way faster! That is my preferred method to light charcoal. Thanks for stopping by! Cheers

    Dude no offense man and please don’t take this the wrong way, but with all the time and effort you spent gathering branches, stacking the charcoal etc you could have just tossed some charcoals into a chimney starter and been done with it. The point of a chimney is how quick and easy it is with basically zero effort. You don’t have to stack anything, you just toss them and light it. That’s it. With this, there’s just too many steps and too much time taken up. Just sayin. It’s like yeah, you could do it without a chimney, and I grew up that way too lighting them manually without one but why work harder and spend more time if you don’t have to? Also, with a chimney you don’t need any lighter fluid.

      @PitmasterOntheWay  3 года назад +9

      Thanks for the comment and don't worry no offense taken 👍! I agree with you. It is way easier with a chimney starter (this is how I do it all the time). Few occasions when I have not had it at hand, this is how I was able to get over the hump

      It’s actually not difficult without a chimney it’s much more straight forward. Why take an additional piece of equipment to add the charcoal to only to light it up and then pour the charcoal into the grill, when you can just add everything into the grill at once? I truthfully think the chimney is just another step and yet another thing to spend money on unnecessarily.
