  • Learn how to make a Farmhouse Bench. In this woodworking project the tools, materials and cut sizes are listed below. The length, width and height of the bench in the video is 5ftx13.5inx18in. You can make the bench length any size you need. I chose 5ft so it could fit in the corner of my front porch. You can also read more about this project on my website. www.philipmillerfurniture.com/blog

    Of all the benches that I have seen on youtube, yours is the best because of the bracing you used. The bracing supports the middle and adds stability at the same time. Eliminates the need for a middle leg and is more aesthetic. Excellent job!

    I love watching woodworking videos. The fact that you explain things step by step makes your video stand out more to me.

    How do you know what angle to set your saw for the braces?

    • @HowYouCanMakeIt
      @HowYouCanMakeIt  6 лет назад +2

      I just did your standard 45 on the bottom and held it to the edge next to the top of the seat and drew a line and put the 2x4 on its edge and cut it with the miter saw

    • @tbone3587
      @tbone3587 6 лет назад +1

      22.5 degrees will also work. cut the bottom miter first and set it back on the table a mark the next cut.

    • @jlsinchina
      @jlsinchina 6 лет назад

      Can you provide a better explanation. Angles are hard.

    • @tbone3587
      @tbone3587 6 лет назад +3

      You have to have a miter saw that allows you to set the angles. I have a sliding compound saw and it has the readings on it. When I set the saw at 22.5 degrees, this measurement is marked on the saw. You can use a compass to get the measurement also.

      I needed to adjust the angle since I wanted my bench to be 4.5 ft. Here is what I did (I'm a fairly new DIYer so forgive me if the explaination is not so clear):
      1. (may be obvious) Lay the bench upside down.
      2. Stack a couple of scrap 2x4 pieces beside the bench aligned to the middle piece of the bench.
      3. Start by cutting a 45 degree bevel on your brace piece and lay the bevel on the top scrap piece and angle it towards the leg. Get a rough idea of how far off the angle is.
      4. Repeat step 3 with a slightly lower angle until you find the right, er, correct angle you need. In my case, I needed was 32.9 degrees (there is a mark for that angle on my Ryobi miter saw).

    If you had to guess, how much did this cost you to make?

    • @HowYouCanMakeIt
      @HowYouCanMakeIt  7 лет назад +3

      Hi Kristen, it cost about $30-$50 for all materials including wood, paint, stain, screws etc.

    Step one to make this bench: have all of the equipment to do this 🙄

    • @HowYouCanMakeIt
      @HowYouCanMakeIt  5 лет назад +1

      It can be done with a circular saw and a drill at the minimum. The look may be a bit different.

    • @celiafodor9252
      @celiafodor9252 5 лет назад +1

      Philip Miller I have Home Depot. They should be able to cut the wood for me right? I have drills but no wood working tools like that since I don’t have enough space in my house for that. You think I would be able to achieve it that way?

    • @HowYouCanMakeIt
