It's 5 years old, but still powers on. i7 2600k, Asus TUF z77, Asus 660Ti SLi, 16gb G-skill. I don't have most of the parts anymore, but I like the picture.
Cutting the original connector was completely unnecessary. You could have just plugged it into the original connector. You learn something every day I guess. Btw, stock ones sounded better.
Let's be very, very generous, and assume the OEM females were much bigger than the fast-on he used. Now, he wrapped the 2 junctions without isolating them. Guess what's going to happen ...
Be sure to separate those two new metal connectors you installed otherwise it will short out the circuit and blow your fuse. Staggering the new connection is a good way to keep them separate.
stop, stop, stop! You guys have to isolate the female and male connectors from touching! Now, as it is connected, they will short out. Use some electrical tape or headsrink. If they stop working, the fuse is burnt! its weird it worked at all if u ask me..
quick question, when I received my kit it came with a weird 3 prong fuse that wasn't shown in your video, is that something I need or what cause I don't want to use it and have it cause a problem or not use it and have it cause a problem
Noah Berry that weird three prong box is a relay you wire to your stock wire harness so you wont burn out your wire harness or horn button these guys doing it wrong
If you did use some sort of isolation you have to show it since a lot of people that don't know about electrical stuff will see this and messed up their cars!!!!! Be responsible when uploading DIY videos!
just for the recotd the hella supertones come in the trumpet style horns as well this style is most popular as the vibrating plate horns are actually much louder then trumpet horns
Surely you could have used larger spade connectors and slid them into the OEM plugs? Saves cutting the loom up and can easily reinstall oem horns plug and play if you came to sell the car etc..
Got some Hella horns for my 8G Accord months ago, but I've been lazy about installing them because of the splicing and wiring. Found out today that College Hills sells a wiring kit that uses the oem connector so they'll finally be going on. Thanks for the vid
*PEOPLE FREAKING OUT* In the video, I did not show you to wrap the connectors in electrical tape, however I mentioned it would be a good idea. We did do it and separated the positive and negative connectors so they wouldn't short out. The style of connector we used would not touch, but for added measures, you can wrap them. Look at 11:19 and look at the connector on the left, how it is insulated in the electrical tape.
Still you twist wires..... its wrong so stop doing/showing it. Electrical tape is a very poor replacement for shrinkwrap. You do so much cool stuff on your channel only to bum out hard on stuff like this. Watch a pro electrician its not that hard......
Thanks for the video bros, for everyone talking about the OEM sounding better, I believe its because they need to be close together, just like the OEM, other than that these are much louder
What a great pace of instruction with clear video angles to show you step by step on how to do this. Thank you so much. Keep up the good work. Digital hi-fives to all your helpers in the video :o)
I would have used a wire adapter to mate with the OEM plug. This would give you a cleaner look and the ability to go back to stock if you are selling the car. Since you went the route you did, you could have used a heat shrink tubing at the end of the mesh wire sheathing. This will keep the end of the sheathing from splaying over time. Your stock horn actually sound better. I think the PIAA sports horn would sound better that the Hellas you've used here.
I put hellas in my STi. The red paint fades veryyyyy quick. I got them powder coated candy red and it works lovely. No more fading, rust or worries. Good video man. I ended up using a pre-made wiring harness for the STi on mine. But this works too.
Cool but I think the original horns sounded better ! And it does matter if the connections of negative and positive are correctly attached. The horn speaker will pulled in if they are in the incorrect polarity not giving you a clear and proper sounding horn ..try with a speaker , you'll see it pulls the speaker in instead of outward...
You setting up your self for a blown fuse the first horn female connector you installed are of the same length you should have wrapped them in electrical tape to insulate them from each other.
what about some electrical tape or heat shrink tubing over the connection you made to the original wiring? It would prevent a short and the problems that come with it.
I agree with the other, it sounded better with the stocks horn but I think it’s because they are far from each other. However, kudos on your very well done instructional video. Very detailed and very easy to follow. Great work guys 🤙👊
Solid video. I'm sure you guys have seen the comments about the OEM horn sounding better, they just do. The Hella horns sounded like tin cans. But you guys are saving many others from doing the work with the hella horns
I can see how this would annoy neighbors and eventually contaminates through the bumper will destroy these horns. but I like the installation. very clean look.
Two observations: 1). The orientations of the horns will allow water and debris to enter the drivers. Normally, horns should be pointed downwards. 2) Polarity is important. If ground is connected to the positive post of the driver, the horn will “pull” instead of “push”. It will still make noise, but it won’t operate at full efficiency.
Unfortunately, these hella horns do NOT have a + or - marked on the terminals. I just got a set today and one terminal has a 12 stamped into the solder, the other one has an 18 stamped into it. Basically NO instructions on how to install.
Do I need to ground hella horns? A lot of people are saying that they need to have ground. I'm just going to replace stock and put them where are they at without messing with wiring. Also looks like a lot of water will be hitting them driving on a highway. I know they are water resistant but u hope they last.
actually, that is why I went looking for vids like this ... I just got a pair of the same horns and I'm thinking the relay that came with them is probably for MORE AMPS (current) than the OEM teeny horn ... but the box has almost no instructions ... a visual diagram that doesn't explain itself at all. My GUESS is that the new relay can probably just swap out whatever horn relay is in the fuse block now ... but they don't say whether the OEM fuse should be increased. Probably not point in increasing the wire size, since the horn is not often 'on' for very long, so the wires won't heat up in that short time.
Yeah definitely do something to protect the terminals from the elements. Also, you can get heat shrink instead of that snake skin sheathing, works much better.
correct me if I'm wrong but you could snap only one connection straight to the horn and avoid all the extra cables and the bullshit male and female connectors 🤔🤔🤔
I'm surprised anything on this guy's car work. He twist wired his friends speakers together and didn't heat shrink and thing over it or anything. Have fun with electrical fires.
I have a better air intake and changed out my back axle exhaust to had a bit more power but heck my civic looks just fine without showing off my upgrades😁😁😁
Be careful Prinz ... you don't want the horn current going thru the steering wheel and the horn button on it ... that's what the relay is for ... a small current through the horn button on the steering wheel controls the large current to the horns ... has to go through the fuse and relay block.
one thing I would have done differently... When you placed the wiring in the sheathing. I would have put each wire in shrink tubing prior to putting it in the sheathing so the connectors were not touching. Good video though I am going to place them on my Mazda.
Don't know why but most people remove your new horns to install your old better sounding horns, I went for ones that sounded exactly like the ones you removed
I bought my 2013 Tacoma new. It only has one horn. Since horns are mostly road rage inciters, I've never used my horn. Don't think it would be heard anyway. Just sayin. How often do you honk your horn?
Often enough. Sometimes to say hi to someone, give it a little tap to have someone become more aware, or even lay on it if someone cuts you off. There are many reasons to have a horn.
Another great vid, thank you. I have a problem with mine, i own a 96 civic hatch which has only 1 horn (sounds like a tonka truck), is there any way possible for me to connect both to the 1 connection? TIA.

Exactly my thoughts
Wow seriously all that work to make your horns sound worse
Agreed, but a horn is supposed to sound annoying, loud and catchy to get people's attention ASAP, which I think the Hella horns do the job well.
Cutting the original connector was completely unnecessary. You could have just plugged it into the original connector. You learn something every day I guess.
Btw, stock ones sounded better.
I was like W TF! Why are you cutting the oem.... ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
I would’ve just ran the female connectors to the oem pigtail in case you decide to go back to original.
Let's be very, very generous, and assume the OEM females were much bigger than the fast-on he used.
Now, he wrapped the 2 junctions without isolating them.

I think they're volkswagen connectors. Wouldn't work with the new horns.

The bad paint match on the bumper upsets me
Right? It actually looked really bomb when they first dipped it but after the re-dip after the front bumper got hit it all went to shit.
Its a primer not paint/plasti dip...
+Nabeel S Wow, didnt know that. Usually primer is a flat black. Maybe they should have re-dipped because the color contrast is obvious.
The bumper hasn't been painted
Harris Montevallo Afridi lol, scaly primer is usually grey

milanmastracci you could also use a heat shrink tubing to insulate that tube
Or a female like that is connected to the horn, whit shrinktube around.
milanmastracci you didnt have to lengthen the driver side wires for the driver side horn

I don’t give negative comments but fair play to you for making 13:32 min video out of replacing 2 horns, in eric the car guy couldn’t do that

Cover the exposed connectors with electric tape to avoid short circuit.
Why in the hell would you use an extension wire where you don't need it...
So you switched out a strong horn, for a wimpy horn?

OEM sounds much better imo
Yeah. I mean it's really just a style thing, I don't think anyone gives a dick what there horn sounds like unless it's a wheezing cat
the “hella” horns sound like a toy car
Yes OEM sounds better - I will take the originals
A lot of vehicles you could simply put a male spade on your jumper going directly into the original wiring harness with out cutting it.
You made this video way more than it needed to be
Curious about reliability. The new ones seem really exposed to debris versus the housing used to protect the OEM.
Really well demonstrated and made it look so easy, plug-and-play, just how I like it. Thank you guys so much!

If you hook the wires up backwards the speaker will phase in the opposite direction making it sound weird. So try it both ways if it sounds funky

Useful - that first side you could have just put the female connectors on the OEM wires as they reach
