Hi, Thank the Lord for this site! The diagrams are a god send. Car electrical wiring has previously been a frightening mystery to me the diagrams make it so easy to understand and illustrate. This is now my go to site for assistance with wiring issues - thanks guys.
If you found it interesting, you should definitely check this one out ruclips.net/video/Yz9kqxWkoHI/видео.html. It is way better, more complex, and by far my favorite wiring video that I’ve made! Thanks for staying up late for me!
I dont know how often you read comments, but I'm loving your content. Thank you. I think your style of explanation and wonderful usage of displays is perfect. I wish you had a "parasitic draw" testing/diagnosing video. Some of the videos out there are scattered and hard to follow.
I read them all, but I get a lot, so it is hard to respond to every single one. I’m glad that you (and so many others) like the videos! I’m trying to explain circuits in a way that I would want to learn, and it seems that others learn the same way that I do. I’ll add your parasitic draw test to my to-do list. I have a whole bunch of cool stuff I’m working on already, so I could be a while, but I’ll get to it! Thanks again! I appreciate you spending time here!
Great video. Super clear explanation and made my install WAY easier. Thank you. I was missing pin 30 splice on my install and racking my brain to figure it out. Horns are working and now a much safer vehicle. I'm finishing at 2am. After almost having a dump truck change lanes without looking and crush me. Horns needed immediately. Thankfully my old Jeep is loud and he heard that but Horns are much better than exhaust 😊 Thanks again. Killer videos as always
My comment is you need to mention Wire Gauge, fuse size . I have watched horn and turn signal and no mention of these important details. Besides that THANK YOU ! I way over think these circuits you Reign in my over thinking!
Hi Jeremy! Just wanted to come on and say that this video helped me successfully wire a horn to an old BMW of mine, where the original system went haywire and I wasn’t able to diagnose why. I used your set up to wire the switch on the ground side, and basically bypassed the original wiring, and it worked like a charm! This was holding me up from getting the car to pass state inspection, so thank you! 🙏
That’s absolutely awesome! I’m always thrilled to hear that people are using these videos to fix their cars! Thanks for sharing that with me, and of course, watching the videos!
Thanks, I just did it on my bike 🏍 and it works 💪🏿 perfectly fine. I love it thanks bro I really appreciate your effort, time, and energy that you put out to make this video . Am from Jamaica 🇯🇲
By using the negative to the switch, that leaves the positive side alway on. Yes? If the switch is on the positive side, then the wires only have power at the moment switch is activated. Please give me a more thorough explanation if possible. I wired as you showed switching negative, horn works, I’m just concerned about potential problems. Thanks in advance. I have subscribed to your system. Thanks
@@stevederosa7415 - you are correct that the positive side of the relay does have power if you wire it directly to your battery. You could wire pin 30 to a source of ignition power instead and then the horn will only work and have power when the ignition switch is turned on. That may be what you are after. As I mentioned at the beginning of the video, there are many ways to wire a circuit and this is just one. You’ll also find that your starter on your car’s engine has power going to it all the time, and that’s a much larger amperage circuit. It likely does not have a fuse on it either, which makes it even more weird. But that’s how automotive engineers like to design starter circuits.
Hi Jeremy. Thx for the video, you should have mentioned why you need to use a Relay, it helps to POWER UP and it sends a more powerful and consistent 12V charge to the horn, without the Relay, the horn will sound like it’s dying or a cow in Heat !!! 👍🏻
Man, you really worth to subscribe. Never had the gut to messed up with wiring before. But your content encouraged me to start with my project. Thank you.
First time seeing this channel. I like the explanation and specifically the layout of the wiring, it makes it very easy to look at and read. Well done....
Excellent! I’m glad you enjoy the videos. I have a lot of different automotive related videos here, because I work on a lot of different things. People really seem to like the wiring though! Thanks for watching!
Thankyou for a simple diagram and instructions. I now have a set of working horns. Word of advice.... do not buy ready made wiring harnesses from China as they are wrong as i found out the hard way. This way is so much more gratifying.. cheers dude 👍👍🔥
Hey Jeremy, thanks very much for the instructions. I followed them and the wiring job worked perfectly. You are an excellent teacher. You earned a new subscriber!!
Perfect clarity.....very easy for me to understand. I have horns and a relay but have been afraid to instal them because there are no instructions included to explain whatwhat wire goes where. Thank you for taking time to make this video. 👍
I remember when I was kid 30+ years ago, my dad had a headlight on his bicycle that ran off of a generator that rubbed on the tire. If that existed that long ago, there must be some kind of tiny 12v bicycle alternator/generator you could use to keep a battery charged. Good luck in your search!
Great diagram! I have a momentary switch to a novelty horn, with red, black, and yellow wires. Black to ground, with yellow and red to each post of the momentary switch, which cycles the horn once, when pressed. My issue is, I am going to use an existing auxiliary switch in my Ford Bronco (6 pre-wired switches, with each one having one wire already routed to a fuse in the panel). Each auxiliary switch has an unconnected wire at the firewall, or other location. For example, to wire fog lights, I connected the ground from the fog light to the battery, and the hot wire to the existing wire at the firewall for that auxiliary switch. Ba-da-bing, the switch works the fog lights. My understanding of this is, I ground the black wire, and connect the yellow wire to the open wire for the auxiliary switch, since the switch already has a wire running to the fuse box. Thereby, not using the red wire to the horn. Is this correct? Thanks ahead of time!
I ordered relay and momentary switch from your list. I successfully wired my 2015 honda odyssey. I bought twin disc horns from Harbor freight. They have the same wiring as your except the white wire # 86 is out of the circuit to power another accessory device since it is carrying positive. Otherwise it is good. I followed yours. My new horn is working. I used one 14 gauge house wire to pass through edge of rubber grommet wiring to breach the firewall into engine compartment it was down hill from there.
Hello! You should never use house wiring in a car. That’s solid copper wire, which is not intended for movement and will corrode, crack and break over time. You should replace that with proper automotive wire, that is properly fused. Otherwise you risk wiring and fire damage.
I'm familiar with these relays but I always like to watch a 5min video to (hopefully) get it right first try. Good explanation I appreciate it👍 I've seen horns switched on either positive or negative, I wonder why some do it different.
DC current will pit contacts with the negative side striping off metal and causing pitting, in some cases it needs a buffer/shock absorber in the circuit to prevent this. DC flows from neg to pos and thus the arc condition/probability/ AC doesnt "flow". Picture AC as jiggling and has a different wiring needs. Also consider that a metal auto body is a built in Negative source and is utilized for cost savings.
My car has a third wire attached to the power wires that go to the horns. The wire goes thru a TRANSIENT SUPRESSION CAPACITOR, and then to ground. The capacitor reduces the spike in the wiring at the relay contact points and internal to the horns. Without this capacitor the horn contacts or the relay contacts burn up from arcing , just like old time contact points on a car distributor.
I used the factory steering wheel, it was a simple case of splicing the "black from pin 85" into the wire on the column switches that corresponded to the copper touch under the steering wheel. There was already an earth going back to the chassis/battery as part of that loom.
Very useful indeed, although I would like to see this wiring done with an ignition switch integrated. Well, I suppose I just have to figure it out. Hope I wouldn't blow anything...
just curious can the pin 85 go to the stock single horn wire coming from the horn pad ,, some wire kits have 2 wires going to the horn pad or switch,,,so i could ground the second wire will this work ,, what iam trying to do it add 2 more horns to making it 4 horns , i originally had 4 horns on the same car system on my 97 ford taurus drawing to much current blew a fuse ,, so i want to keep 2 car horns on the regular car system and add 2 more horns with the relay kit or posably put all horns with the after market relay
Okay this taught me something. BUT! BUT! What i am looking for is a way to, using the stock horn button switch between to horns. Case in point an electric air horn and the stock horn. I have some ideas. But I'd like to see something on a board like you did for that.
Thank you for this video, I added a compressor horn to my tractor exactly like your diagram and it works great. Can I add fog lights to my motorcycle using this exact same method? Thanks again.
Great diagram and explanation. I was wondering, however, if there was a particular reason why you wired the switch into the ground side of the inductor instead of the power side (splitting the white wire leading into terminal 86)?
Most horns are controlled on the ground side of the circuit. The horn button in the steering wheel just grounds a wire to the steering column itself and activates the horn. I think car makers do this so that they can save money on 1 less wire going up the steering column :D
Thank you for posting this video. I know you made it a while ago but I just followed it and have a question. I ran fused 12v power into pins 30 and 86. Power comes out from 87 to twin horns. Another wire runs out from 85 through a momentary switch (surface mount horn button) to ground. The horns are also grounded. When I push the horn button the contact inside the relay does not move. Then, with what might be a second problem, when I manually move the contact to close the circuit in the relay (whether I’m pushing the horn button or not), the horn makes a momentary noise, and sounds like it wants to toot, but that’s all. Every time I manually close the contact, the horns make the same noise. I’ve tried unhooking one horn, but get the same result. I’m using 18 and 12 gauge wire and harbor freight disc car horns. I’ve tested the horn button and the connections. Everything is good. I’ve also replaced the relay with no better luck. Any idea what I’m doing wrong?
I want to use this for my switch to ground for my wiper. My wiper draws 20 amps. Can my wire size for the switch to ground be small like 20awg or 22awg? I think it makes sense since pin 85 is not going to receive much current. Pin 30, 86, and 87 will of course be big wires like 16 or 14 AWG. Just wondering if I can get away with a small wire on the switch to ground side
I'm currently wiring up a fiberglass dune buggy. Any chance you could make a video on wiring side markers as running and turn signal? Or how to add the them to your video on turn signals and 4 ways. You're videos have already helped out on my build. Thank you.
Yes. I can! Feel free to bug me about it if you don’t see it pop up in a few weeks. I’m currently prepping my garage space for winter so that I can make videos without freezing to death. Lol
#Salute to the video. I sint know where I went wrong. I have the dual disk horn from harbor freight and i wired them up like this and no sound at all. Bummer. Not many videos about installing horns to momentary push buttons
Can you please show how to set up a 5 pin momentary rocker switch with led lights for a single horn to a 5 pin Bosch relay? One for led light turns on when car starts and one for led light turns on when button is pushed. There is nothing anywhere( thats good ) I've checked all over you tube and you where the only one that got me further than anyone. I'm begging you please help, thanks for your awesome videos!
Hi there, I love the way you explained it. I got an air horn with a relay and a toggle switch that has 3 wires & 4 pins (1 black & 1 red that connects 2 pins to positive & 1 red that connects the other pin to load). I'm confused if the toggle switch acts as a relay? And I don't understand how to wire the toggle switch through the Aire hor relay. Note, I'm adding an air horn as a spared horn & keeping my existing horn. Please advise. 🙏
Great setup. I'll be installing a new pair of low and hi tone horns instead of my defacto single horn on my 03 Mitsubishi Montero Limited. My original horn system failed as it does on all of these Monteros after the years due to poor design so I'm using my high beams lever to send voltage to the horn. One thing I've noted is the first few weeks the sound is good almost great as a full size pickup but as time goes by it sounds like a horn with a bad cold. I hate it and want to get better quality brand and review my setup. I would prefer not to use any push buttons for this to work so I'm leaning towards the use of my high beam lever as it only requires a mild pull every time. I would appreciate your opinion on applying part of your design here for my installation. Best regards.
is it possable instead of using a button for the horns is to use the single wire to the horn pad ,, i have a 97 mercury sable with horns that ground to the body , i wanted to use the 2 stock horns and then add 2 extra horns to make my cars horns louder ,, kind of like train horns with a horn wire kit ,, my car does have a factory horn relay but i tryed 4 horns it blew the fuse , my car cant seem to handle 4 car horns
Great video, trying to wire a momentary switch to a second air horn, followed this layout and horn doesn’t sound. Any suggestions? Relay is brand new, connections look solid, not sure where else to start looking for issues.😅
Yes! I actually bought all the stuff for this a while back but haven’t made the video yet. I was thinking of doing a cheap method vs. expensive method. Is that crazy or nah?
@@WiringRescue I think your idea works. Or if your building a car to drive around town. How to connect a keyed ignitian. To a fuse box w acc. Then get to start.. how about a video on fuses and circuit breakers from the battery are they reliable. Cars in the 60s didnt seem to need them

Lol
انت مبدع أنا أحب هاذا المحتوى. شكرن جزيلا
Good day sir!
May I know the wire gauge that you use and also the how many amp is the fuse?
Sure! Check out this video - I explain it all! ruclips.net/video/EhzN6UdnmPA/видео.html
This was very helpful, still can't get my switch to work. Any help would be great...
I really love all your videos.THank you so much sir.Kindly make a video about wiper diagram and park light diagram..Thank you.
Oh wow! Wipers is one I don’t have n my to-do list yet! Good idea! Thanks for watching!
#Salute to the video. I sint know where I went wrong. I have the dual disk horn from harbor freight and i wired them up like this and no sound at all. Bummer. Not many videos about installing horns to momentary push buttons
Thanks for the dimo really worthy for me
Good job my friend
Thank you!
A video about how to wire up daytime running lights that turn off when the headlights are on using a relay would be fantastic air :]
Sounds good. I will add it to my to-do list!
Mainly came by to find cheaper fix than clock spring. Takein apart the steerin wheel aint bad but i dont have 200+ to spend on clock spring
Let’s see the wagon!
Lol. Stay tuned! It’s coming!!!!
So for you to be able to see at night you'll bee honking constantly while using high beams🤣
is it possable instead of using a button for the horns is to use the single wire to the horn pad ,, i have a 97 mercury sable with horns that ground to the body , i wanted to use the 2 stock horns and then add 2 extra horns to make my cars horns louder ,, kind of like train horns with a horn wire kit ,, my car does have a factory horn relay but i tryed 4 horns it blew the fuse , my car cant seem to handle 4 car horns

Great video, trying to wire a momentary switch to a second air horn, followed this layout and horn doesn’t sound. Any suggestions?
Relay is brand new, connections look solid, not sure where else to start looking for issues.😅
Great video. Thanks.
You are welcome! Thanks for watching!
Are you thinking about doing any videos on wiring an ignition, acc to the fuse box see what wires go where?
Cars in the 60s didnt seem to need them
There's no firewall boot to pierce with a boot/wire tool? Would seem more appropriate than running in between the door and the car...
Thanks. Does it matter which is pos or neg? Is it OK to wire reversed or does polarity matter?
I believe on most horns it will work either way. It may sound slightly different each way though.
Do you have a wiring diagram showing the switch on the positive battery pole? If not why not?
Thanks
Yea - right here. ruclips.net/video/W2Mr2Zgv1Ck/видео.html
In the inline fuse box, what gauge wire do i need? and what size fuse? for a Horn that is 12v / 1.5 amps. Relay is 5 PIN / 12V DC 30/40A. Thanks
Great video thanks
I was was didn't catch the white wire at first but then I watched again and seen you tied it in with pin 30
