  • In this episode of Lauren of All Trades... Lauren checks out Palomar, one of Norwegian's specialty restaurants on the Prima!
Palomar's cuisine is Mediterranean, featuring a lot of sea food but with enough non-seafood to give everyone good options. It is only found on the Prima and Viva so far.
I don't recommend eating here if you'd be paying the menu prices (they're just SO high - if you don't think they sound high, then I still recommend it), but I do recommend it if you're deciding which restaurant to use a specialty dining credit at.

Thank you for showing. I was undecided on which to try because I have 2 specialty dining meals and there are so many restaurants to choose 😊

I was lucky to have 4 and it was still hard to decide! I've also been to Le Bistro and Cagneys on other ships and Los Lobos, Onda, and Hasuki on Prima (those videos aren't edited yet). Of all of the above, Onda and Le Bistro are my favorites. Palomar would be in 3rd place.,

We were on the Viva in April for a TA. The main thing I noticed about the restaurants is they make the food "fancy" and don't give you nearly as much as we use to get. We will be on the Prima in September and I'm trying to book restaurants online now. Thanks for posting.

Looked interesting but expensive for a cruise ship. It appears to be a Greek themed menu but the name “Palomar” and the background music don’t match that theme. Do you know if the counter area shown at 1:47 was originally supposed to be a buffet?

I believe it's Mediterranean, so Greek might be accurate. I ate here because I had four "specialty dining" credits, so I didn't pay the a la carte prices. I don't think anyone does. My theory is that they make their menu prices so high so that the dining credits that come "free" with everyone's bookings seem more valuable.
I don't think the counter was ever intended to be a buffet. For some reason (in my experience) a lot of restaurants on cruise ships have exposed kitchens like this. Maybe it's faster for servers? Maybe guests like it?
I don't recommend eating here if you'd be paying the menu prices, but I do recommend it if you're deciding which restaurant to use a specialty dining credit at.

Good morning… I hope you are enjoying your NCL prima Cruise … Just wondering… Have you ever done a Hawaii cruise and if so, what cruise line and what ship and did you enjoy it thank you

I have not done Hawaii yet. Being on the East Coast, I haven’t even done any research as to which ship I might pick because it’s expensive to get to the west coast.
I have a friend who did Hawaii on Pride of America and she wouldn’t recommend it. She said the food was bad and the service was not like other cruises ships.

@@laurenofalltrades I have heard the same thing about pride of America… We live in Virginia Beach so that's our issue as well the cost of flying… But doing research now going to Hawaii seems to be extremely expensive… Did not even try to research pride of America although my sister went on it, and really enjoyed it which boggles my mind but that was many many years ago… Was researching carnival radiance, but boy is she old but still gets pretty good reviews… Also researching princess and Holland America, but super expensive… We might have to just put that on hold for a while… Thanks for responding👍🚢

@@grannyoffive1313, Radiance is both an old and a new ship. She debuted in 2000 as the Carnival Victory. However, she had a HUGE refit in 2021 that essentially made her a brand new ship. I sailed her in January and didn’t think she felt old at all.

@grannyoffive1313 I was going to say the same thing as Andrew above. Radiance's hull is old, but the insides are new. I actually went on it when it was still Victory and it didn't feel that old to me. I'd recommend considering it if the itinerary/price is right!

I believe it's one of each. I didn't try to order more, but that's what the server told us. Thanks for watching!
