Great job, thank you. Where did you find the replacement battery? Did it already come with the correct connector or did you save the original?
Thanks! I linked the replacement battery in the video description, I got it domestically from Adafruit. It came with a smaller connector, but I just took it off and super-glued the original connector onto the battery leads.
GOOD VIDEO I JUST REPLACED THE 18650 DESOLDER OLD AND RESOLDERED NEW THEIRS A BRIDGE POS/NEG WAY EAZER IN STEAD OF MESSING AROUND WITH THE MAIN BOARD WANTED TO SHARE ALOHA FROM HAWAII

Thanks for your video, it gave me the courage to attempt this myself. I have the regular lifejacket 3 and it has three wires coming out of the batteries. There is 2 batteries with a black, red and yellow wires. It says on the blue wrapper that it is
ICR 18650 4800 mah
3.7 v 17.76 wh

I have searched high and low on the internet for this battery pack with no luck. I have called Altec Lansing and they said they don’t carry parts for the speaker and could not assist me. I have found two batteries close to it but with only the black and red wires. Just wonder if you have any suggestions and why there is the extra yellow wire on the larger speaker? Thanks for any help!
I'm happy that it was useful for you! From some quick reading I've been doing, it appears most likely that yellow wire is for temperature monitoring of the battery. I'd presume while functioning, or more likely while charging. You are right, it is hard to find your battery you need.
It's not the best option, and you'd have to judge on the dimensions whether it would fit, but there are two listings on AliExpress right now for tablet batteries with the same voltage and similar charge capacities to the battery you pulled out. They have the 3rd wire from the pictures you'd be needing. It doesn't look like they'd come with even the leads crimped on the end for connecting to the circuit board pins though. You would have to get some of those to install yourself on the ends to work, or solder them on. Here are the listings.

These are from China so they would take quite a while to arrive. That may be the route I would go though. It would be a difficult repair at any rate. Alternatively, maybe visit your nearest Batteries+Bulbs and see if they have any ideas. I hope all of that helped!

One thing I would advise when swapping out the Molex connector is to very careful not to accidentally short the the 2 wires together, I personally would either swap one wire at a time, or throw some tape on one of them while both are out of the Molex connector, shorting a lithium Ion battery does NOT end well.

@@buildsbacktolife8932 As someone who vapes, I'm quite familiar with those batteries and the havoc they can cause when they short out, usually unregulated devices with no electronic short circuit protection built in are the cause of such problems

It should be turning on if the lights are blinking. What pattern are the lights blinking in?
Hey, I've a problem with my speaker. If i try to turn up or down the volume, it'll go into a blinking blue light. I can't turn up or down the volume of the speaker, nor change tracks with it. Any solutions?
I haven't ran into that. I would be curious to know if you open it up, if the buttons still do that when you are precisely pressing them.
Sounds like it's going into pairing mode, Altec Lansing controls are a bit finicky. Try tapping the buttons in short bursts, rather than holding them down, like you would to adjust the volume on most Bluetooth speakers. On my Super Lifejacket, there is a dedicated "pairing" button, which its smaller siblings seem to lack, but even on that, if you hold the volume up button down, it will skip to the next track. I did notice playing around with my other speaker, that it seems that you enter pairing mode, (normally) by pressing the plus and minus at the same time, I wonder if somehow when you press one button, the other goes too, and enables pairing when you don't want it to.
I’m going bat shi* crazy trying to figure out how to get the second case (under the black rubberized skin) off! It’s the red thing! It seems like you just slip it off. Why is it impossible for me?
Hmm, I'm not sure, the red gel-like cover is not secured by anything and should be super simple to slip off. Assuming you do have the right model, I would suggest using an old gift card, credit card or another thin plastic object you can use to pry underneath the cover and start to work it off.
@@buildsbacktolife8932 it’s an Altec Lansing mini life jacket jolt with lights and although it looks very much the same I’m finding that the red thing is not soft or pliable and I’m unable to just slip it off. It’s clearly rubber but very hard. I tried a few things but no budge.

@@buildsbacktolife8932 thank you so much for your help. I still haven’t gotten around to breaking into the damn thing but I’ll let you know if I can figure it out. My problem is that while almost everything works perfectly, the color changing lights are messed up. There are 5 options and I’m only getting 3 of the options to work...the 2 flash to the music options sometimes partly work, and only the white flash mode, never the color mode. Grrrr. I’m hoping it’s a loose connection or something?
