The music during the scene where Heahmund died is what made me really sad. They executed it well. But he did go out in battle in actual history so at least hirst kept it somewhat historical
Interestingly Jonathan Rhys Meyers (Bishop Heahmund) was extremely ill with a terrible flu for most of the filming, but he still did all of his own stunts and fight scenes. I have a lot of respect for that.

Notice how he was never defeated in battle until he let his guard down to appreciate Lagertha. Her beauty, fire, determination and passion just for a moment smothered his righteous zeal and in that moment he was no longer God's champion and thus, vulnerable. The last thing he did wasn't to say a quick prayer or scream his devotion to Christ, but to shout HER name and appreciate her one last time. Truly a beautiful moment and beautiful death fit for a great warrior like him.

No, he died because she was no longer by his side. If she had reconciled with him and fought by his side, instead of across the battlefield where he could barely watch over her, he might still be alive too. He was absolutely God's champion. He died watching over her even though she gave him up, and she lived and they won. Just as he had asked God at the start.

Heahmund’s death was one of the most beautifully written and directed scenes I have ever seen on TV ...
Not sure if it was the best but it was definately well done, the symbolism of dying infront of his planted sword to the cross he worshipped, he literally lived and died by the sword.
The whole battle was a masterpiece for sure though.
All this episode was amazing, but for me the heahmund's death would be more beautiful if he sacrifice himself to protect Lagertha. I never specially like Heahmund but i am so sad he is dead now. He was a good character. And Ubbe and Alfred relationship = Ragnar and athelstan i love them
And i hope alfred will not punish his brother he just did a mistake

Him sacrificing himself for Lagertha would make no sense because it would mean he hadn’t renounced her. He shouted her name only because he wanted her to know that he was about to die. And don’t worry, your English is fine haha.

I like that we’re starting to see why Alfred became Alfred the Great. As far as the battle is concerned that was more beautifully shot than anything I’ve seen including Game of Thrones.

Trevor Morris really knows how to make emotional soundtracks, it really made this episode. GREAT directing too, and acting for that matter. The best episode in Season 5 alongside episode 3

I can fully understand why Bjørn fell inlove with that girl, she was the first one to ever cut him.. Before her not a single person had ever touched him in combat. Also, this episode is one of the greatest episode of any show! A true masterpiece is every single way.

This was truly one of the best episodes of Vikings, beautifully written and i love the soundtrack for this episode.

Alfred was obviously sad and shocked over hearing the news that his brother(Aetherred) is the leader behind a conspiracy to overthrow his kingship. As king he will need to make an example out of him to deterrent anyone else who would rebel against him in the future.

It's pretty weird that the brother of the king of england in the full series he just magicaly teleports to him like... he is on the right side of the battlefield but then his king/brother is dying and then he magicaly gets teleported to kill whoever tries to kill his brother.

If you look closely a few seconds after that lady stabs heahmund in the back. he briefly tells laghertha he loves her. you can read it off his lips. it's not very clear in this video tho.

Lagethas departure was fitting since she is a mythical/fictional wife of ragnar, only found documented in one story. As opposed to the other of ragnars wives.
The fact Alfred finally brought vikings and christians together and allowed for them to farm which was what ragnar oginally wanted and Ubbe, bjorn, lagertha were able to fight finally for that made me tear up.
I stopped watching Vikings after season 4 but after seeing clips from Ep. 15 - I'm back in it. Still can't get over the fact that it's on the god damn History channel!

I don't know why, but even if i've seen some other footages of lagertha and i knew she wouldn't die, i thought in that moment, after she and heahmud both fell on the ground, that they would have showh also her body in the 13:15 scene when Alfred is talking. Maybe it's all because of that music.

I like the foreshadowing at the end of the episode. Vikings basically killed their own gods, and their way of life when they started raiding England. In less than 200 years almost all of them were christians. So in the end the christian God was more powerfull.

heahmund died in real life there at the battle of marton. But they kinda mixed that battle and the battle of Ashdown. Because at Marton the king was Aelthered and danes won under the command of Ivar. At the ashdown the sexons won under Alfred and beaten Halfdan Ragnarsson (hvitserk at series I believe)

Lewis Burrow but most people don't know history so it doesn't matter that much. In history Ivar and Alfred are undefeated and I would be shocked if they kill them. In my opinion you don't have to change history if what you does not make it better.

This battle is hands down one of the best episodes in the series ( best thus far season 5). Would I have done different things? Sure .. I always look at the small things, the details and there was somethings that (in my opinion) could've been better in certein situations NEVER THE LESS the script was good. Even tho I don't like where they're taking Bjorn (even if I understand the why) I simply don't like it.. but if they keep this type of filming and they don't screw that much with the twists Vikings can be what once was.

In 6a, we will see Ivar and Bjorn in that beach battle we see in the preview.
The only thing I’m not certain about is whether or not Ivar and Bjorn are fighting against each other or if they’re fighting together against another army.

Well what I do know is that there will be a Rus’ army against Bjorn.
But in the preview, we see Bjorn surviving the battle and a shot of him sitting on the beach with the dead bodies surrounding him.
I wouldn’t expect Ivar to lose to Bjorn so there is a chance of them to fight together.
Omar_ Elattar. Hopefully. I have wanted them to partner up ever since Alex was introduced as Ivar in Season 4 and we only got a little bit of it when they got revenge for Ragnar but they spent most of the time arguing. I want to see what they could really do if they put their minds together, I think they would be unstoppable, plus They are my favorite of the sons.
If Lagertha dont come back aged... RIP Heahmund, you shoulda been Ivar's Athelstan moreso than a generic Lagertha plotline

Bjorn saved her life beacuse Bjorn's nickname id ironside for no man ever touched him with his blade, and seeing as how after many years he was finally hit and not by a man but by a woman, you can see it in hid face when he gets hit hes like damn girl im marrying you for sure!

I heard a really interesting theory that Ivar is just using his new wife for a child and just saying he is a god to consolidate his power and after he has the one thing he physically can’t get he will get rid of his new wife afterwards because it feels weird Ivar is supposed to be this very intelligent character and has proven before not to fall for women when they try and seduce him but if he was playing her it would be very “ruthless” just it use her for a child and get rid of her

My guess is that if they would recast the actresses and replace them with 40-60 year old actresses, they would lose a lot of viewers.
@Asa S, they don't have too.. They're well equipped with the right tools and makeup (or lack thereof) to make every actress look older than they are.

The Björn is a great fighter but not so smart. Ubbe is kind and nice but has no goals in life as his father did. Hvitserk will grow eventually but he needs to set his own path. King Harald is a man with ambitions but with bad luck compared to ragnarsons. I hope Magnus gets more screen time because his story is strong, although the way they introduced him was rather weak. Alfred is golden, Aethelred is smarter than his douche father but still not enough. Ivar has all the reasons in the world to take revenge from a woman who arrowed his mother from the back, he also has all the reasons to be not sane. In a world of strength he survived as a cripple and became a leader. He is also the only son who went with Ragnar when no other son paid attention. If it wasn't for him, Ragnar would have died on his own and a Great Army to revenge him wouldn't be constructed. Lagertha has fallen in love with countless characters, just makes it worthless for her love with Ragnar. Heahmund was the superb character, the way he talked and everything was pretty awesome. Shame he died, but he died in a very well put scene. The bold-headed leader of York seemed interesting at first, I assumed he was gonna raid essex with Harald first and then when they return to kattegat, join Ivar and kill Harald instead. He looked like a strong minor leader and kind of smart. Only survived 2 episodes... Shame. This is what I think overall.

Ubbe has no goals. Lol his whole story line with Alfred is to eventually fulfil his father’s dream and ambition to allow his people to expand and farm in new easier lands
@@lewisburrow3946 Someone to worry about fulfilling his father's wishes would have went with his father to England in the first place. Also, he still has no goals of himself. He carries some qualities of Ragnar as all the sons carry some. But he lacks some. Don't forget that. The show makers purposely pointed out how he is like ragnar, with Alfred saying: "You are the most Ragnar-like son." Lol after that episode everywhere on social media were like: "OMG I LOVE UBBE HE IS SO MUCH LIKE RAGNAR" Don't buy that shit
