bjorn is way stronger and taller, heahmund is warrior bishop yet without holding flag he gets arrowed down, probs cus he fights too aggressively anyways cus he obviously is the general big target like that bald chubby dude from york. bjorn can be aggressive but he's ironhide and he doesn't seem to go as all out. he doesn't even carry a shield and doesn't seem to give a fuck, well honestly he just never wanted to kill vikings..if the tall chick can see people running away she's probably not all the way to the front so when they finally clash that also says something about where bjorn had been positioned

We lost Ragnar in season 4 episode 15 and we now lost Heahmund in season 5 episode 15. Ragnars death episode is called "All His Angels" and Heahmunds death episode is called "Hell". I don´t know if it has any meaning, but i think it´s a fun little thing i noticed. Oh and the same music (Snake Pit Poetry) plays in both episodes. But i don´t know if it has anything to with each other.

There were a few parts of the episode I felt negatively about.. I have become so negative seeing Ivar's development, weird pacing and writing, but I am starting to feel like some of that is just in my head. Perhaps because I am feeling bitter that the show isn't going in the directions I had initially hoped it would and it made me cynical.
How are you staying positive and hopeful, what are you liking about the show currently that keeps you invested? I like Alfred and Ubbe as characters, I did not understand Lagertha's and Heahmund's relationship, the cuts during the fight in this episode irritated me (you did like them?). I see potential in Hvitserk, especially if he decides to finally take down Ivar.
Ivar I might be feeling the most bitter about. I really had hoped for an interesting psychological storyline where he struggled with his disability and yet managed to make a name for himself. But now it seems he has become everything Ragnar warned him against - he tries to be normal (walking upright, which magically he can now), is obsessed with being happy with his fake wife, is zealously religious, and betrays his people every turn. His constant screaming also has kind of lost its effect on me. At the beginning it was really powerful, that time Sigurd pulled the chair away and humiliated Ivar, I felt his pure wrath and fury. The infamous "I AM IVAR THE BONELESS" scene was pretty good, it felt a little over the top but I can see why people liked it.
Sorry to sound so negative, I just would love to hear what parts of it you feel you can explain or justify from a writing and character point of view and/or why you actually like the developments all over season 5, especially in the recent episodes.

KOGS123 No, in the saga Ragnar has a son named Hvitserk... and he has a son named Halfdan. They were 2 different people in the saga. Both sons of Ragnar. In the show I think they made Halfdan like you said kind of like Halfdan the black.. but, in the saga Bjorn and Halfdan (Ragnar’s sons) go to the Mediterranean together.. I think the show kind of split the role of Halfdan. But in the saga, Ragnar has a son Hvitserk, and a son Halfdan. Ragnar (in the saga) also has 2 sons from his first wife Porun Erik and Agnar. But, they aren’t in the show at all. In the saga Ragnar had 3 wives. You should read it.. the best translation I have read is by Dr. Jackson Crawford. He also has a RUclips channel and talks about the saga.

      dirt man
I am not wrong. There are 2 sources for the tales of Ragnar and his sons. The first, is the story of Ragnar Lothbrok and the second is the short story of his sons. My information is accurate. I learned from Dr. Jackson Crawford specialist of old Norse studies at UCLA. He even has a you tube channel where he discusses these topics. He is also a specialist in the old Norse language and has translated the saga of Ragnar and his sons. Ragnar having a son Halfdan, comes from a Latin source. Not from the saga itself (same with Lagertha). But, if you take their word for it, than they are most definitely are 2 different people. Because they couldn’t be the same person in 2 different places. I will send you a link of Dr. Crawford explaining this. I believe his word over yours. Sorry but, you don’t have a doctorate degree in the subject.

@afoke First of all, even if he is Ragnar's son he still would have had to learn to fight. So he obviously was taken in by someone who was good with a sword at some stage.
Just because Ragnar denied him doesn't mean he isn't his son, he did so because he didn't want Magnus to be used in any way that might thwart his scheme, also according to the sagas Ragnar had lots of children but denied a lot of them because he had his favorites.
His lying about Ragnar and him embracing when they met was an attempt to to get Ubbe and co. on his side for his interests. So it might be that he fights like his father, lies like his father and schemes like his father.

But then I thought what if lagertha is pregnant? But she's old but then again back in the day humans were more pure and pretty healthy. So It's tough to say I'm not sure. What do u think?

At first I thought Magnus captured Lagertha and took her to Harald but I'm wondering where she went off to. I don't think she'll make it back to Norway though, I don't even think she'll see Bjorn again. That new badass Viking girl was the one standing behind Bjorn in the trailer for this season when he goes back to Kattegat to fight Ivar. She is a badass and exactly how I would imagine an old Nordic warrior woman to look like. She looks very formidable, I like her already. I think Bjorn and Harald will join together. I hope Ubbe comes with him but I have a feeling he'll stay.

@@locomojoboy2 People say that about a lot of women from Nordic countries because they have a lot of sharper features. There's this 100 years of beauty video about Sweden and people were in the comments complaining that the model looked like a man... she doesn't and neither does Gunnhild. She just has strong features which is common.

This was an amazing episode! You mentioned that Bishop Heahmund didn't necessarily have a pay off, but I would say he did.
For most of his story line we see him struggling between his devotion to God and his devotion to his passions. In the end, though we see Heahmund's peace and serenity despite all his inner conflict. He sees the deer in present day, and as Alfred says the deer is God saying He's with them (as was the deer a representative of God in Heahmund's vision), so essentially God reveals himself to Heahmund which is something he never truly thought he would see. So that's the marriage of faith.
He then has the marriage of love as his dying words were Lagertha's name (letting her know he never stopped loving her). It was a short story line, which I would've LOVED to have seen drawn out, but I think Heahmund served his purpose: to show his love for God and to show his love for Lagertha. I think this will also jump start her transitioning story line, as this will definitely send her spiraling into a Lagertha we've never seen before.
I do see what you mean in terms of the lack of pay off for other seemingly minor characters that have a huge set up. I think this has more to do with building the character's credibility with those they will eventually influence. The Chinese princess was there to get Ragnar hooked on opium (and thus sent him spiraling), but she couldn't have done that without establishing that relationship first. Margrethe was there to plant the seed of Hvitserk killing Ivar, a thought he hadn't fully contemplated before, but she couldn't have done that if Hvitserk didn't have a love for her due to everything that happened in the previous season. And Heahmund was there for reasons I mentioned in the previous paragraph.
These characters don't necessarily have to have full arcs, but they serve their intended purpose.

Such a dope episode, and nice reaction & analysis! I can partly understand people not liking the show that much like the first few season but the show is still good with a lot of characters i like! Not the same level like Ragnar (and i honestly can't think another character ever having the same impact again as Ragnar), but it would be unfair to dislike the show because of it. Everytime i see Bjorn, Ubbe or Alfred, Hvitserk...hell even King Finehair, they came such a long way in this show, i still cheer for them. Vikings is different now, but not in a bad way at all!

Dopey Heahmund gets distracted by Lagertha when he fought for Ivar and got popped in the head. Gets distracted again by Lagertha when fighting for Alfred and dies!
Lesson to all: Don't let Lagertha distract you in a battle.
    Priorities people, priorities!!
They've turned Ivar into a bit of a one dimensional moustache twirling villain. Whatever sympathy we had for him has left the station.
People now will want his comeuppance and Hirst will have to do something with him. Either some kind of redemption or his death.
I guess Floki will become the new Seer with his visions.

I think the girl is called Gunnhild, and she’s basically what Thorunn wish she could be. I think Bjorn is finally settling with a proper match.
This episode was just so beautiful, it reminded me why Vikings beats Game of Thrones all the way. Yeah, sure, there’s a lot of spectacle in GoT, but that emotional aspect is lacking. I never actually found myself so emotionally invested in any battle, I was just like “oh that’s cool”. I never found myself getting so hyped up that my breathing got messed up, or teared up in excitement and fear for any of the characters.
Vikings is officially back on its A game baby!
