That hippo goddess in the end is the goddess of rejuvenation and healing, protector of children and motherhood, she's Taweret. I love her already. That hug between Steven and Marc was everything, it was beautiful and wholesome. Loved your reaction.
@Jason Mullins Does anyone else think that the number of trapped gods meant something? The ennead has nine gods. It’s possible Khonshu makes the 10th, raising the question of who were the gods Steven appealed to in episode 3? And why was “Horus’s” avatar so friendly to Harrow. When those gods say humanity abandoned them, perhaps humans knew exactly what happened - for instance evil gods killed and took the avatars of those in the actual ennead. Now the fake gods have a chip on their shoulders because they thought they would be revered. Instead humans saw them for what they were - Demons. Demons who reached for the stars after going to hell.
23:44 The fact that Steven and Marc were at odds for Layla, going so far as to Marc making Steven hit himself but at the end, they see each other, not through a mirror or reflection, but in person and what they do? They hug each other, being relief and happy to see a familiar face. But is sad that this might be the only time these two can physically hug each other.
Not only that, but Marc was literally so confused and worried when he couldn't hear Steven anymore. And the "Steven?" when he finally sees him. Goes to show much Steven and Marc actually mean to each other, regardless of how much they can be a pain in the ass to one another. It is really sad that is the only time they are going to be physically in each others presence, but perhaps they needed it to start embracing each other.
Yeah, she even said the mummies in the wall that were there were those who had attempted to get into the tomb, I think....so that's why the protector was mummifying that dude.
The psych ward is from the Jeff Lemire run in the comics in which Marc is told everything and everyone involved in his journey as Moon Knight has been imagined. It also features a Dr. Emmett who turns out to be Ammit. Since Harrow is her avatar it makes sense he would take the doctor role. It's a very good run.
I think I've read this a few years ago. If I'm not mistaken, it was Khonshu who pulled the strings from the beginning. Right? Because he wanted Marc to face and embrace his weakness (DID) or something?
I was expecting the *"No... Bitch no..."* And the *"imma out of here"* also some punch on Steven's arm at the mommie part, and Nikki never disappoint me 😂😆
Basically the mental insitution is where the 2 Alters could meet, believe it or not a person with DID can have a whole different real life world within their system (mind). Sometimes alters can meet up and talk, some can be restricted from seeing certain parts in there, or memories. Steven was screaming in the first sarcophagus I think thats why Marc opened it, he heard a familiar voice, the 2nd one was something unrecognizable since they dont know theres another alter, and seems like they didnt wanna risk anything since they are trying to escape, I love how this show is delving into DID (mental health) and history and of course superheroes, etc. Loving this show
very true. My whole life i've struggled with Disassociated personality issues and hallucinatory episodes and i've experienced shit exactly like that last scene while fully awake. the way that the show accurately portrays that is something i've never seen even close to done anywhere else. I really appreciate the genuineness of it all. The way i saw it was that while Marc's mind was running rapid fire trying to process getting shot and what just happened he slipped into an episode. His mind was trying to make sense of whatever it could (given that he was unconscious i assume it was all going off of sound). That's why he snapped back into reality in stages. He heard the auditory sensory such as Layla consoling him and arthurs men, and he tried to get in touch with steven but his mind was probably just in survival mode. then when he woke up he started to acknowledge outliers to distinguish the vision from reality such as the cane, slippers, and the quotes and figurine. and as he slowly started to get back to reality he was able to expand his mind back into the vulnerable, creative, and problem solving aspects explaining why he "found" steven again. All those things he did were very great coping mechanisms to get a grasp on reality again, even if it seemed like it was just story telling all of that is very real shit.
One thing to remember... When they start an image upside down... like with the opening scene, it's a cinematic cue telling the audience EVERYTHING you think you know is about to be turned upside down.
The moment that I think I realized that the end sequence isn't real is when I saw the cart full of cupcakes. I can't picture a mental hospital giving out that much sugar to everyone
25:53 Steven stopped, pointed at it and looked at Marc like he wanted to say "shouldn't we open that one?" Marc is the one who kept going. Marc might not *know* about Jake yet, but he has a feeling, and he doesn't to face that feeling.
I'm finding it quite interesting watching the split between whether reactors thought the ending was in Marc's head or 'reality'. Personally, I thought the overly sterile mental health facility was in his head from the start. It seemed like a pretty typical mindscape to me, though I did wonder whether they'd try the 'it was all in your head' thing. The moment that solidified it as in Marc's head for me was when the hallway started tilting.

The hippo lady at the end is an Egyptian goddess named Taweret. It would make sense if she saves Marc/Steven after being shot as healing is one of her things.
You saw the Egyptian hippo god as a stuffed toy in the first episode when Steven worked inventroy at the museum. The "hippo god" is Taweret, the Goddess of fertility and childbirth.
I think when Marc was sinking down into the darkness after being shot, we watchted him decending either deeper into his mind while he was dying or into some sort of limbo (probably a mixture of both)
I’m thinking they are in the third personality’s mind - both of them are in a perilous place (literally going towards the light), so the third personality took over. By refusing to properly address the shaking sarcophagus they acknowledge he’s there, but neither one of them are prepared to bring him forward. Their subconscious’ have acknowledged the presence, deducted he must be the one responsible for their most volatile acts, and really don’t need his BS right now. Just as Marc was able to punch Steven, I think it’s possible the third personality will force his way to controlling the body.
They are in the Overvoid, and the Hippo was the goddess Taweret. All the people are people they have met along the way. Also the 3rd coffin is the 3rd personality.
I agree with Steven it does feel like a mind f*** when hearing the name being used. For such a common name we rarely ever hear the name Steven in Tv/Movies

The ending bit of this episode is actually based on a really famous Moon Knight run from the comics. Obviously, it's not exactly the same but the point to take away here is that after Marc was shot his soul fell into a sort of limbo because he's still technically Konshu's avatar. The hippo goddess at the end is most likely Taweret who wasn't in the comics but is a part of Egyptian lore as the goddess of rejuvenation and healing, protector of children and motherhood. If I'm not mistaken, she was actually one of the statues that they showed on the wall at the beginning of the episode.
yeah i think you're absolutely right. The 3rd personality is the one in the 2nd sarcophagus that they didn't open. The 3rd personality loves exerting Konshu's punishment and he only comes out when things are really dire, you don't wana mess with that guy..lol
I think people forget that when you die or have a near death experience, they say your life flashes before your eyes. I think the scenes in the "psychiatric ward", is those few moments in Steven/Mark's brain as he's dying.
Omg meee tooo i was reminded of that Harry potter scene and bc of that now my theory is that Marc is ina LIMBO state between life and death after he was shot and he's in his head trying to make sense of all that has happened and cole to terms with his alter(s) and his traumas! Maybe that hippo goddess somehow resurrects him or heals him or whatver we'll see!
Okay I was a big geeking out this episode I love Egyptian mythology I always have since I was little kid. As people already said, The hippo goddess is named Taweret who is the Egyptian goddess of childbirth and fertility. She works in consort with the god Set who is the god of death and evil. As you remember at the end of the episode, Mark / Steven were shot and fell in water in the tomb. The water represents the Field of Reeds which is used in Egyptian mythology as a way to transport the living to the dead world. Also when in the Field of Reeds it almost replicates real life, so that is why you're saying all these people from his past. I was always told it was kind of like seeing your life flash before your eyes which either way it's freaking fantastic. When Marc was in the asylum of you look back all the decorations that were in the room match the ones in the tomb. 🤯
the ending of this episode is something that a lot of people who have read the kane chronicles series by rick riordan would be “absolutely beaming,” about. if you’ve read the series, you know what i’m talking about lmao 😂
look like his soul descended to a version of hell or purgatory after being shot, and the goddess taweret is there to find them, heal their problems and help them be reborn again to free konshu, and who knows, maybe all the other trapped gods in stone
I'm just starting the reaction but Gaspard Ulliel was a wonderful actor and we were all looking forward to his next projects so that's very sad for the entite country, and i can't even imagine how his family feels. If you ever get the chance to watch a few of his movies on your own time I recommend it he's really talented and he chose his projects carefully :)
moon knight has quickly become my favorite marvel show and probably my favorite character outside of the guardians. I’m really hoping we see more of him in the mcu after the show is finished 🤞🏻😬🤞🏻
The episode was directed by Justin Benson and Aaron Moorehead, both responsible for cult horror films - Resolution and The Endless. Watch both if you haven't. Lovecraftian and mindfuck vibes especially with The Endless.
Come to think about it, the mental hospital is actually inside of Marc's head. That's why Marc & Steven were able to hug eachother (be in the same space/dimension. Also...that other sarcophagus that was shaking...I think that's "Jake" (the other personality).
Fyi...Most of the people in the mental hospital are characters from episodes 1-4 (the beginning til now). Like the old man directing the Bingo game is the golden "Statue Man", The orderlies are Harrow's henchmen (& woman), etc. They're stating that Marc (the original owner of the body) created everything in his head. I think the mental institution is more of a "Purgatory" or a place where your consciousness goes before the gods can "bring you back"? Great episode!
I think he is in the place between life & death, Tawaret also has the job of cleansing souls before they go to the afterlife and if you think about it, a therapy is kind of the cleansing of the soul.
9:36 That was not actually the Eye of Horus, but the Eye of Ra. But there _is_ an Eye of Horus that mirrors the Eye of Ra 🤔. The Eye of Ra is the one they drew (right eye) which represents the sun, and the Eye of Horus (left eye) represents the moon 🤔.
Interestingly, Taweret (goddess of motherhood and rebirth) was specifically never even referenced in the Comics, you see many other gods but not her. She was never in stone either, she just... ran off and hid I guess? So this is unknown territory for MoonKnight. It does make sense though, because with the all white they clearly arent in the underworld with Orsiris but they're in limbo and Taweret must give the 3 knights a new body, new life.
I never know what to expect in the next episode which I love not being able to predict anything. I assume he is locked within his mind but… who knows lol
Alright so as someone who has been fully awake and has had multiple night terrors, visions and hallucinations I want to explain and point out how accurate that whole last scene was. There's sometimes that i've seen things similar if not worse than what Marc experienced at the end. For example the very first time i had a night terror I saw different reoccurring characters and themes but all the "characters" were taking on the appearance of all of my family members that have passed and my entire surroundings looked different for me. The portrayal of those issues in this show is something I've never seen accurately portrayed anywhere else before. Basically whenever Marc got shot his brain started to fire up and run a million miles a minute, and whenever this happened for me it cause any auditory senses or touch to manifest what my mind made the most sense of almost like a dream. Usually when i go into that state the easiest way to snap back into reality is to keep an eye and ear out for familiar themes, objects, and phrases. That's why whenever Marc snapped out of the daze and came to terms with reality he made eye contact with Arthur's sandals, Cane, and heard him say the last thing he told him before the shooting. Marc was without Steven at first because when you're in that state of mind it's mostly just terms of survivability and deciphering what's real or not, but from experience my thoughts are that they probably had Marc tied up and are holding him hostage while they reach Ammit's tomb 🤟 That's why the first things he heard was Layla telling him that "they won" as if she was consoling his unconscious body. and why Arthur and his followers were the main people occupying the "asylum" or what he saw to be an asylum. As Marc began to point out the cane, the sandals, and who arthur was and what he has done he began to figure back into reality and that's the point when his brain was able to slow down a bit and get a grip onto the other aspects of him such as whenever he discovered steven and supposedly Jake? It's so fascinating how the brain works because whenever i had my episodes anything i would hear or see would be rearranged into more familiar things just because my mind was trying to stay active. I love the fact that this show keeps people guessing what's real and what's not because that's how its always been for me my whole life, but just like in that last scene he had to spot outliers to separate both continuities and decide how to cope with the situation.

Just FYI, this episode popped out of your Moon Night playlist, the playlist jumps from episode 3 to 5
24:26 You can pinpoint the second where Nikki is absolutely goes on an "AWWWW" mode
I think she was also the stuffed toys he had in a box in the first episode as well
The last 10 seconds is my favorite scene of the series so far.
Nikki's reactions to this episode were priceless!!!
I love the Indiana Jones and National Treasure vibes in this show man
yeah i think you're absolutely right.
I love that the protector of mothers and children is a hippo, the deadliest large land mammal on the planet.
this episode almost got me crazy hhhhh , i was like wtf!! am i imagining stuff?
That was Taweret at the end.. who some of us might recognize from the show LOST. There was a statue of her on the Island.
6:51
Steven: I believe she's our wife now.🤣🤣🤣
Okay I was a big geeking out this episode I love Egyptian mythology I always have since I was little kid.
This one was really intense. I do appreciate Laylas awesomeness in this video though
For whatever reason this episode doesn't appear on your Moon Knight play list. It jumps from episode 3 to 5.
*cap says a swear*
Nikki: "Language!"
Yall are the best.
It was more than just a Hippo. Remember, Egyptian Gods often had the head of an animal. They were greeted by a literal Goddess. ;)
look like his soul descended to a version of hell or purgatory after being shot, and the goddess taweret is there to find them, heal their problems and help them be reborn again to free konshu, and who knows, maybe all the other trapped gods in stone
The end of this episode is some Legion type shit and I love it.
I was really excited when I rielized it was Alexanders tomb
Because this is part of the MCU, at what point is Harrow considered an Avengers-level threat?
moon knight has quickly become my favorite marvel show and probably my favorite character outside of the guardians.
Just realized bingo guy is the gold statue guy from in front of the museum
Hi again guys! I love all of your reactions.
Come to think about it, the mental hospital is actually inside of Marc's head. That's why Marc & Steven were able to hug eachother (be in the same space/dimension. Also...that other sarcophagus that was shaking...I think that's "Jake" (the other personality).
You watch Steven for the action stuff, you watch Nikki for the adorbs stuff. 💖
Confused, terrified, fascinated, thrilled, unsure what is real or not?... welcome to a pretty classic Moon Knight story , lol.
Always enjoyed your guy’s reactions!
The Heka Priest made me freak out, and I nearly jumped out of my skin 😰😱😓.
14:00 this is what it feels like to get a buzz from being high, and crash the next day. Don't do drugs kids.
I don't really know if that's true.
I am thinking that the psychc ward is what the gods were hiding in the "overviod" or it could be a type of limbo ....lol
WTF I’m so confused 😂 but I love it and Oscar Isaac is killing it! 👌
The descent meets Indiana Jones meets one flew over the cuckoo's nest lol
Interestingly, Taweret (goddess of motherhood and rebirth) was specifically never even referenced in the Comics, you see many other gods but not her. She was never in stone either, she just... ran off and hid I guess? So this is unknown territory for MoonKnight. It does make sense though, because with the all white they clearly arent in the underworld with Orsiris but they're in limbo and Taweret must give the 3 knights a new body, new life.
All I can think of when they're asking about opening Ammit's tomb, is me playing Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines: DONT OPEN IT.
First time here after your GOT Reactions, I love you still have some GOT Staff. I really missed this :)
This show is absolutely nutzo!!!🤪🤪🤪
They were shot and died, i think they are in the Egyptian afterlife, and the hippos is a goddess of resurrections btw
