Having trouble with your USB devices not being recognized in Windows 10, tried all different USB ports on the computer or laptop and still no populating the USB device? I will show you the first step in fixing this common error Unknown Device. USB Flash drive and other USB devices are very useful so to lose the ability to use this devices because of an issue with the Universal Serial Bus (USB) devices. Troubleshooting this issue cannot be simpler, disconnect the USB device from the computer and type in the search windows “troubleshooting” open that windows tool and click “Hardware and Sound” then look for “Hardware and Devices” and click it to open that program. Let that program diagnose the issue and look for corrupt and missing drivers. It should find and fix the USB fault and ask you to reboot. Once rebooted, hopefully you issue should be resolved, if not then you need to move on to more advanced repair.
Try plugging device into back of the USB Port, also try reinstalling Motherboard Chipset drivers.

Not helpful at all. How can I use this method when my USB ports are not working when my mouse and keyboard are USB and do not work? What am I missing here?
Turn ur PC off and open ur PC and clean the USB port

Okay, I recently had this problem too, and for the people this isn’t working for, this may be the solution. Open up your computer, and near the ram sticks, check for any unplugged cords, mine was green, so if I were you, I’d look for a green one, if that’s unplugged, plug it back in. And boom, it should work! I’m not one to ask for likes, but if someone sees, can you like it? So people having this problem can fix it.

If your using a usb hub make sure it’s plugged in correctly
Ok i figured out something new. I gave up and was ready to take my
laptop apart and I was doing so. I was hoping to disconnect and
reconnect usb card but instead. I was able to fix the issue much
easier. I have done all kinds of troubleshooting mention in all these
videos but none mention this. I did do a bios reset and factory default
in bios. This did not work either. When taking apart laptop, I
disconnected the CMOS batter connection from the Motherboard and waiting
for like a minute then reconnected. Laptop restarted twice before
going into windows. I plugged in my External USB mouse and immediately
it said new device found. Boom fixed :D Good luck y'all

I've spent far too much time trying to sort out the issue "USB port not being recognised, Windows 10". Searched online and this morning thought I'd try RUclips and there you were. You, via the troubleshooting suggestion, have talked me through it and hey presto, my USB ports are now recognised. Thank you - so very pleased.
I don't have the Yellow triangle, but every time I plug in my USB 3.0 it wont recognize it! It does not even make any sound, but USB 2.0 works fine.

I tried what he did in the video eventhough I do not have a yellow triangle and IT STILL WORKS. I had been searching for a while to resolve this and this is the only one that helped me. :))

were you able to fix it??
If you have issue where usb works but it stops working soon after, go to edit power plan > change advanced power settings > USB settings > USB selective suspend setting > if it's enabled it will try and turn your usbs off to conserve power but can fault and think a port isn't being used, now just disable it.

Where can you install USB device drivers? My Windows 10 says it's missing but it fails to fix in Troubleshooting :(

I have a Lenovo laptop with Windows 10. Last week I saw the computer going thru an update of some kind. After that, no USB devices including the remote Logitech Mouse works. In device manager, no issues are identified. All USB hubs and drives are working and latest updates are installed. I tried the devices on another laptop and they work. No problems identified at all in device manager. Any ideas?
hey, like other recent comments, i can't find the "devices" option under the hardware and sound menu. Is it due to a newer version of Windows? Do you have an alternative idea for the issue?
It was removed but you can open it through cmd terminal, typing “msdt.exe -id DeviceDiagnostic “
I took out my old ram and install 16gb of ram and then the USB ports stopped working. I tried removing all rams, didn’t work. I tried putting one ram and turn it on didn’t work. I tried putting my old ram, it didn’t work. Any help pls?

Sorry to say, my windows 10 does not have 'Hardware and Devices' option in Hardware and Sound section of Troubleshooting. And I have seen lot of people complaining about not finding 'Hardware and Devices' option inside Hardware and Sound. Problem not solved

These Troubleshooting options do not even appear in my Windows 10 Home. There is not option for Hardware and/or devices SMH
run cmd as administrator and copy this command msdt.exe -id DeviceDiagnostic and it will show

When I open ‘Hardware & Sound’ in troubleshooting, ‘device’ isn’t even a option to click on mine. When I try forcing it to do it through cmd, it says ‘windows online troubleshooting service is disabled’ 😭 HELP

That's great but what happens if after doing that last steps, in the last step you recommend the ocmputer did not find any updates for the drivers because they were all updated. When I connect my external memories, they are not detected, nor the sound that's being plugged in is made. Any suggestions?

My USB Ports(Female USB-A Ports) disconnect if they are hit or knocked, it because they wobble in the port so move left and right, a USB Port is like a PCI port, same type of port or socket but only has 4 connectors in it so the USB Cable has to be straight in the USB port to connect it properly, if its not then it will disconnect it, what I did was pulled in each side of the USB Port inwards, now its not disconnecting no more, I used a nail file and suck it in to the sides of the USB port left and right sides of the USB Port and pushed it so the shield went inwards so is pinching the USB connector so the USB Cable fits properly and does not wiggle and stays straight in the port, the problem is because when we pull the USB Cable out we wiggle them when you should just pull the cable out straight, it comes from the old socket ports like 5 Pin Din and PS/2 ports when you remove them you had to wiggle them left and right when you pulled them out because they have pins in them so is not a slot like a USB port is, I didn't realise I was doing it, its automatic so you do it without thinking, you even do it with a VGA or DVI ports too because they are all pin connector ports so it comes from them too so your brain thinks you need to do the same thing with a USB Port, when you shouldn't, a USB Port has a slot not a pin socket.
Also sometime power management should be disabled. Sometimes desktop pcs turn off USB ports to save power when they should not.
I got a corrupted san disk hard-drive I believe. So I've been searching for videos tryin to fix it. But almost every tutoral video does the same thing, and doesn't help me.

I have a problem that I have a transmitter and a cable for charging headphones. transmitter works without any problems, and when I plug in headphones for charging, this error pops up, like headphones are charging but they do not want to connect to the computer. I tried on other USB ports but it was still the same problem.
So, I did the troubleshooting but it found no such drives either online or on my computer. At that point what can I do?

I have the exact same issue with my webcam and USB flash drive but when I search for the troubleshooter at the left bottom search box, the app does not show up in the search or the control panel in Windows 10, and I didn't find a download option on MS website. I had one this week where all the USB ports stopped working no keyboard,mouse or Touch screen , not really much I could do apart from boot up to recovery and do a system restore.
System Restore will work, don't matter what way you fix it, as long as it works.

When I press "apply this fix" it loads then it bring me back to those 2 options and it say "there is a problem with the driver for intel(R) Core(TM) i3-3110M CPU @ 2.40GHz. Reinstalling the driver might fix this problem" and my mouse and keyboard are not working and whenever i plug it in to my computer it say "Driver error"

Is this the same for hdmi cabled devices? My blu ray/ dvd player is not recognized or detected in any way that i can understand.

I have an Issue I am using a rip software with my Epson R285 printer Its working fine on my Laptop and the software works on my desktop but when It starts to rip to the printer It goes really slow and what takes 5 mins to rip on my Laptop Is taking around 45 mins on.my Desktop and the longer It Is ripping the longer the time shows.

For those not getting any sound, search device manager in windows bar, universal serial bus controllers, right click USB root hub, properties, power management, uncheck "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power"

I have a situation I hope you can shed some light on.
I am transferring emails from Outlook 2007 by drag & dropping to a 64GB flash drive (USB 2.0) on my old Windows 7 laptop.
I then take the FD to my new Windows 10 laptop which I also have Outlook 2007 installed on in an attempt to drag & drop them to the folders I have created, (the ports are USB 3.0).
I don't get as far as even being able to see what's on the flash drive however because the system asks for me to initiate a format on the flash drive.
I remove the flash drive in a safe manner and rake it back to the old computer. When I fire up Explorer and look at the flash drive the system asks again for me to initiate a format on the drive.
I formatted the drive. It seemed the only way that I could actually see the contents of the flash drive, which of course was empty after the format.
What do you reckon?

If you've watched lots of these videos but still can't get you're USB Card Reader working I have one more suggestion.
I went to my motherboard manufacturer's website (ASUS for me) and downloaded the chipset drivers for my model.
Bingo.
I finally got it working again.
It seems to be a Windows Update that caused the problem. Hopefully your manufacturer has an updated driver too.

theres multiple ways to fix that problem
just add a keyboard to your screen? if your screen is touch screen you could use that to your advantage as well.
use the touchpad mouse or a mouse that plugs into the side of your laptop or you could use a wireless mouse.
just use your keyborad arrows

Brian, will this resolve communications port com 5? That’s what I have struggled with trying to get to work with a model train programmer. It keeps showing a yellow triangle on it.
Well... it would have been nice to have found this video years ago when I originally had this and similar problems. But your solution matches up with what I remember was the solution back then.
And of course, I've never had the issue pop back up since.
