I am an Aussie and I LOVE JOHN FARNHAM! I cry when I hear him sing, but although he can sing anything at any age I particularly love his first concert.Whispering Jack...Phenomenal!!!!
I remember when Brian May (yes, that's Brian May of Queen) walked out onto the stage behind John, just to play the backing for John in 2020. May said he considered it a privilege. That is how much John Farnham is respected by his fellow musicians, around the world.
There are singers who are overproduced in the studio, artists who require countless takes to get it right, only to muddle through it on stage with material that is really out of their range. Then there's someone like Farnham who, despite his obvious vocal gifts/skill, breathes the moment in a genuine relationship with the crowd. There's a reason why even professional vocalists are in awe of the guy.
Hey Charlie.. Love all your reactions to john coz that's how we all feel about him.. We adore him!!! I don't know if you heard but John has just released in a statement a few days ago that he's cancer free... BEST NEWS EVER!!!! If you haven't already you really need to watch "Finding the voice" I've watched it 4 times now & it still brings me to tears..
I was at one of his concerts with John and Stevie Wonder was in town and he came and sang with him on stage because he was one of his favourite singers. Oh My God it was amazing, I still got the great photos I took. Jenny Adelaide South Australia
Hi from an ex Adelaidian (Maslin Beach for 9 yrs), now in Qld. That would have been amazing! Sadly I never got to see him live, but I've been hearing his beautiful voice almost all my life, from the days of Sadie & Raindrops.. he's such a blessing to humanity.. x
Always tears with this one, too. John is an extraordinary performer. Whay a sublime voice. Thank you John, for the gift of your voice that you have given your fans over the years.
You really get it, don't you, Charlie. I'm with you. I love John's talent and skill & his amazing vocal range & the arrangements and the overall sounds of the performance but for me it is his joy in his singing and this gift of his songs and himself to us his audience that just gets me in the❤. Thanks, love your JF reactions.
Yep. I've said it a few times. No one I have ever seen, and I've seen a lot from Australia and overseas, come close to John when it comes to his connection with you on a personal level whilst sitting in the audience of one of his concerts. The feeling of intimacy, even when amongst over 20,000 other fans, is indescribable. He can seemingly 'shrink' a venue like no other. He's like a funny, larrikin Uncle who happens to have an amazing singing voice!
John plugs everyone directly into his pure joy when he's singing. It even translate through a screen which is pretty incredible. Thanks again for another wonderful reaction Charlie ❤
Beautiful reaction! It shows that his vocal technique was impeccable. Even when he seemed like he was "screaming" or straining for high notes when he was younger, he actually wasn't. Vocal coaches have explained his technique- it's just mind blowing. Also - he's been a smoker his entire life- what a beautiful instrument 🥰❤️ and ofc sir dr brian may - love him to bits too. Similar age to John ❤️❤️❤️
A Touch Of Paradise is what I feel every time John sings. No one can evoke such feeling, and the ability to go where he sends you with your imagination. There will only ever be one singer beyond comparison, as John has been. Thank you for helping us to remember how blessed we Aussies are to have him.
❤❤❤ Love John Farnham, and love your reactions to him. I so much appreciate that you have really helped me appreciate JF now, where as growing up with his music, really took him and his incredible talent, for granted.
Beautifully performed. And a beautiful song. What a great teaming between John Farnham and Ross Wilson❤❤❤ And that love that he shows to us all is why we adore him. ❤❤
This still gives me chills when it starts, I think this song was played as the wedding dance at weddings all across Australia late 80's to early 90's! Such gorgeous vocals from John in this gorgeous song.
I've just spent the whole afternoon watching John Farnham on your reaction channel. When I should be doing things in the house. But it can all wait. JF is just sublime, everything he sings is just exquisite. What better way to spend an afternoon. John loves what he does, loves his fans, band and backing singers. He is totally unaware of himself, he's not self absorbed or self obsessed. Just Mr. Nice Guy. What a gem. 15.11.23. UK. E❤
This song was all over the radio in 1987, and I probably took it for granted at the time, as is often the case when a singer has been around for a long time. A gorgeous song by Ross Wilson, sung so passionately and beautifully by John 😊
Ross Wilson, who wrote this song, is one of our finest singer songwriters of all time. He was also front man for two of our best ever bands - Daddy Cool and Mondo Rock. You could do a whole lot worse than watch Come Said the Boy by Mondo Rock - fabulous song. And of course, The Voice singing this song just adds the sugar on top.
Thanks Charlie. What a lovely commentary on John. John was voted Australian of the Year for the 1988 year, and he still is the epitome of an Aussie, down-to-earth, the first to volunteer for drought, flood, fire relief concerts, looking out for his mates.
@@Quinctili No, he is still that Aussie hero who has raised millions through volunteering for free performances for fire, flood and drought in Australia, for his personal support of Aussie troops overseas, the Starlight Foundation, Rwandan refugees... You are hearing some noise, but John's fans are like him, the quiet Aussies who just get on with trying to help out a mate, and applaud him for doing this.
@@Quinctili No, but then I have researched this pretty widely and can see through the Murdoch misinformation. I support the opposite - a chance to head towards an equality that we do not have. I turned 16 when this came out in 1986. I did see him from a distance at Riverstage in Brisbane in 1988, and I even had the same long blonde mullet. But I was too young to feel JFs music back then, we were into heavier rock and all of the Aussie Pub Rock Bands, and JF didn't do pub rock so I never really followed him. It is one of my greatest regrets because I understand and feel the songs through his voice these days and even though I have his Tapes and CDs, I feel like I missed out on some great concerts.
Watching John brings a tear to the eye which probably has a lot to do with the memory of a lost youth. I saw John in 1988 perform with the Little River Band at World Expo in Brisbane where he teamed up with Don Henley and they did both Eagles and LRB classics. Im 67 now and last month we completed a lap of Australia with our caravan, we happened to be in Broome when the Discovering John Farnham film was playing at the worlds oldest open air picture gardens - what an emotional trip back in time that was. John Farnham is an incredible talent and he has been for the last 50 years..
Such a beautiful, restrained, melodic use of instrumentation and background vocals to produce that dreamy musical cloud for Farnsey to cavort around vocally like an aeronautic ace putting a new jet through its paces. Breathtaking, even after all these years.
Ross Wilson was lead singer singer of a group called 'Daddy Cool '. Have you ever looked into them? There's also a video of he and John singing this together. (Quite funny!)
Hi Charlie, I love what you said about John's obvious love for his fellow human beings, I can't say I had consciously noted this previously. It is interesting though, I do believe we see in others a reflection of ourselves, so this is what you also communicate Charlie to your audience. Thank you, I'm really loving your reactions.
I grew up in the outer Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne, Australia, or what those from the city would call "the sticks" and John was the first concert my parents ever took me to in 1990 when I was 10, in the city. I always remember at family parties, his albums were played often and loud. Two of my cousin actually grew up living in the same court as Johns Brother or Sister (I can't remember) and Nephews and my cousin would sometimes go away and stay at Johns place at his farm in a beautiful pocket of Eastern Melbourne. I look back a realise how great he really was and am baffled how he didn't break into the international market.
Ross who wrote this song is another amazing artist you should check out. With his band Mondo Rock they had some amazing hits in the 80's. Prior to that he was lead singer of Daddy Cool in the early 70's with some great songs as well.
My friend, you've perfectly captured the essence of John's character. Kudos to you. It's always been my impression that John genuinely values our presence as much as we value his, which is quite remarkable. A profound talent, and always conveyed with a unique, authentic, humility.
After watching his documentary, I can compare his talent and his struggle to succeed in the brutal music industry with Tina Turner. So much parallel between them.
Thanks Charlie, always love your reactions to our wonderful "John", his impressive voice. Got a couple for you to try out... one from 1983 his LRB days called "Reminising" ruclips.net/video/xJdGjeOZPtk/видео.html ,then one 17yrs later in 2000 with a hot band... "That's what love will make you do" - ruclips.net/video/AK9uhGmvo6U/видео.html
How you describe John being like a brother… That’s because he IS. He’s family to us Aussies even though we may never have met him. We have all been so blessed to have Farnsey as a part of our Aussie family 😊❤️🇦🇺
I don't have anything to say other than he has the sweetest face 🥰 I know what you mean. I watched a really old video earlier and it was the same, he has such respect for his audience. It sticks out to me because it's always been dominated by girls and women who are usually disparaged and discounted as an audience. I find it really odd that people who commentate on his career and at times the struggle for perceived credibility never talk about this quite obvious aspect of it. Anyway, great song! He also did one called We're No Angels by the same songwriter Ross Wilson, it's just beautiful too.
Such a beautiful song, one of my faves. Great reaction to our beloved John. The look of joy that sweeps across your face Charlie as you listen to John singing always makes me smile. You really get him. Not sure if you've reacted to 'The Reason Why'. It is stunning. John has always said he sings it for his sons, Robert & James. John in full vocal flight with Richard Marx (Canadian singer/songwriter) accompanying him on piano. Bit of trivia for you, John is usually singing while he has chewing gum in his mouth. You can see it quite often, especially at the beginning of Burn For You & The Reason Why. Much love from Australia 🦘
I have been to many concerts but value for money hands down ohn Farnham is an experience never to be forgotten. His band and back up singers are all world class. The next day your body is still vibrating from the sounds and songs.
Now it’s time for some Renee Geyer. Amazing Australian singer. Please listen to ‘Heading in the right direction’ live in New Zealand 1981 It’s from an old VHS so it glitches in a couple of parts but we’ll worth the listen
Well said Brother John has never put a foot wrong his whole life always remained true to himself and those around him congratulations on being smart enough to pick up on John's character . You will never hear a bad word about John here in OZ !
Smashin it, Charlie! Just as your expression showed, it is hard to listen to the intro of that song and not feel all the cares of the world just start to drain away as you picture yourself on a sandy beach somewhere drinking an icy cold beverage.
Have you seen the John Farnham 💗 Documentary Movie 🍿🎥 about his life and career, called; "Finding The Voice"? It was done with John's approval and input. It was released here in Australia 🐨🦘🇦🇺❤️ in theatres 🎭👏 on the 18th of May, this year, 2023. It's great 😃👍 So happy 😊😁 to hear 🙉😊 that you're feeling better 🤗😊 John💕💗💖💝
There is another video of John performing this song with his back up singer, Lisa Edwards. They only use about 3 musicians for a more personal performance...... laced with Johns playful humour as he deliberately tries to make Lisa laugh when she is concentrating on a vocal performance. Sounds a little corny and a lot naughty........but it is a piece of magic !!!
You should check out John singing The Reason Why, co-written by Richard Marx and Phil Buckle; the crossover from 1994 ARIA Awards to The Best for the Bush Concert, l believe from Canberra.
I love your reactions, Charlie!! I'll give you another couple of live performances (always) from John that you may not have reacted to as yet and they are Im No Angel and Let The Banners Fall. Hope you enjoy them ❤️
Another fantastic reaction Charlie! You are an incredibly insightful human full of heart and soul yourself. And you're a poet and a romantic. You have picked up the core of who John is without even trying. His essence, heart and soul, is a human who connects with others and is full of love for his fellow humans. It would not surprise me if I learned he is an incredibly sensitive empath. I feel like you are too Charlie. I don't believe you could recognise it in John if you didn't have it in yourself first. Like a mirror, it is always reflected back to us through others. You're a special human Charlie. 💙 In the meantime, I watched your unboxing video when John sent you a gift after seeing all your reactions. You mentioned in it that you would wear the Tshirt in all your Farnsy reaction videos from now on, but you don't have it on here?
Thank you for such a nice comment. I am indeed a hopeless empath and romantic. There was some controversy around the t-shirt. I need to check it's authenticity woth John's team but haven't got round to it yet. It's a long story and I will post another video about it once I get some answers.
@@TheCharlieSmithChannel You're so welcome. :) I'm also an empath, and while it's an incredible gift, it can also be challenging to balance all those energies. How do you find it? I'm so sorry about the controversy with the shirt. How very disappointing. I wish you the best for getting it sorted quickly and hope you get to wear it. It was such a cool gift! Farnsy is my all time favourite artist, and I've been a huge fan from when I first heard You're the voice at 14 in 1986, the year it was released. Ali :)

How you describe John being like a brother… That’s because he IS. He’s family to us Aussies even though we may never have met him. We have all been so blessed to have Farnsey as a part of our Aussie family 😊❤️🇦🇺
Takes me back to the one I wish I'd married. Still fond memories after 27 years.
Excellent... my favourite song is.... In days to come
Nice review 🇦🇺
One for Valentines Day :)
Soprano sax, mate. Love it!
Please do a reaction to Love’s in Need. A capella with all his band. Only one or two other reactions have covered it.
John is a treasure. If you get some time watch him and Tom Jones together
😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
John is the greatest he is out of hospital and back home glad to see you are doing well best wishes from an Aussie fan
Stunning performance by John in this beautiful song of Richard Mark's. Truly a master class, how it should be done ❤❤❤
Hey Charlie, take a look at John Farnham and his whole band singing Love is in Need acapella. Absolutely amazing!!!
I have been to many concerts but value for money hands down ohn Farnham is an experience never to be forgotten. His band and back up singers are all world class. The next day your body is still vibrating from the sounds and songs.
Wondered when you would find the gem 😊
Now it’s time for some Renee Geyer. Amazing Australian singer. Please listen to ‘Heading in the right direction’ live in New Zealand 1981 It’s from an old VHS so it glitches in a couple of parts but we’ll worth the listen
Thank you charlie for the love you have showen to our one and only John Farnham. ❤
That saxophone was a straight soprano saxophone, or it could also be a sopranino saxophone in E flat, it's a bit dark to pick up the size clearly.
My all time favourite John Farnham song ❤🎵 🇦🇺. Thank you for doing this one
It was the soprano saxophone
Ross Wilson is a legend in his own right.
Hope you enjoy them ❤️
One of my favourites ❤ although I must admit I have many favourite Farnsey songs 😉
Thus is so true. My favourite song changes daily....but agree this one is always somewhere in the top few
In the meantime, I watched your unboxing video when John sent you a gift after seeing all your reactions.
Ali :)
It’s either a soprano saxophone or a clavinet
Soprano sax
Thank you@@thetattedpharmacist3215
I just heard JF is free of his cancer!!
Definitely a soprano saxophone, not an oboe. Very similar though
Soprano sax.
Clarinet mate😊
