    I have bought and sold this pedal twice before and thanks to you I’ve bought it again. I always have fun with it but then have a hard time actually integrating it into anything I play. But I can’t deny that it’s the source of tons of stupid goofy fun and who doesn’t need that once and a while? Maybe the third time will be the charm.

    This is very cool. I have the Whammy V, Digitech Drop, and EHX Pitchfork and used to have a Whammy IV. (The power supply for the old Whammy IV was kind of a hassle and didn't track too great.)
    Whammy is turning into a favorite for me and the Whammy V does great. I like the detune mode on it. The pitch bend is fantastic and can either be used subtly or used like Tom Morello. I think if you can use the Whammy and learn to apply it to solos where people wouldn't recognize you are using it is great. This would include smaller intervals like half a step through a 5th up/down. I like using half a step to a full step down to emulate a whammy bar on my hard tail guitars to make a subtle depressed bar sound.

    You forgot to mention this pedal has 2 modes: Classic and Poly, 1st one is the classic glitchy sound of the original Whammy and the Poly mode is for cleaner and pristine polyphonic pitch shift which shines a lot on clean chords and drop tunings!

    What I can't find out is how instantaneous the momentary could be. My goal would be to use it as a tapping effect so I'd need an instant on off without any lag. Anyone know if this is possible? I'd go try it at the store but they're quite rare to find.

    • @StompboxBreakdown

      With the ballistics set all the way down, it’s basically instant, though I don’t know if it’s quite the tapping effect you’re looking for.

      @@StompboxBreakdown yeah like when you played chords on 7:30, I would like to have my guitar tuned in D standard and pitch up 1 step to tune in EADGBE or vice versa, to not have to change the tuners everyday, used Ricochets are cheaper in my country than Digitech Drop, most of the channels that I asked this question they only used the Ricochet to do a review and dont have the pedal anymore

    • @StompboxBreakdown
      @StompboxBreakdown  2 года назад

      @@nicolasaraistrujak208 Haha, yeah it can work that way, I just tried it. Not sure if I'd trust it to perfectly shift the note for recording, but probably good enough for live/practice. Is it just a matter of remembering the drop-tuned string, or does the tuner actually not pick up on them right? I remember my Hardwire Polyphonic tuner has all sorts of different tuning modes, same with my PitchBlack Plus, but I could understand a TU-2 maybe not having that kind of reach.

      Had to look it up, but it certainly seems like it, though I'm assuming an actual full-sized Whammy, or other, probably rack-mounted pitch shifting effect. All the tabs I'm seeing note the use of an effect, not bending or sliding.

  • @PedalChainsAddiction

    I always think Jonny Greenwood when I think of the Whammy. That style of pitch shifting is so fantastic in the right hands (& feet). A pedal I love that is similar is the TC Electronic Brainwave. It’s got a ‘Mash’ function for some vibrato effects that are great for a live setting, and it’s polyphony tracking is top-notch. I love my Whammy IV, but, like I’ve seen other people mention, the power supply is a bit of a pain, and the footprint is so large it’s impractical for a gigging pedalboard. I’ve always been intrigued by the Ricochet, I appreciate you giving us such a thorough look. I didn’t realize that it had an FX loop. I’ll bet you can really have a blast with that. I feel like your compositions are getting better with each video. Keep up the great work with the channel! Just curious, but do you have a ‘desert island pedal’? How about a favorite guitar you’d place above all others?

    • @StompboxBreakdown
      @StompboxBreakdown  2 года назад

      Thank you so much! I really appreciate all that. I saw the Brainwave the other day, definitely looked interesting. The Ricochet doesn't have an effects loop, sorry if I implied that somewhere. I was just putting other pedals before/after it. Maybe I should do a diagram of how some of the more complex effects chains are when I'm doing the demos.
      Desert Island pedal... I mean, before anything else, I'd go with a tuner, but assuming that's taken care of, right now it's the Keeley Monterey. It's a dual pedal with different modes, so that might be cheating, but it's got a tasty fuzz on one side, and Uni-Vibe, Auto-Wah, and Rotary on the other. It's quickly becoming my go-to lead tone pedal. For a single pedal, I used to play this open mic where a jazz guy would show up every week and blow everybody's mind using just a Tremolo pedal set really faint. I always admired that, and I think that I could be happy with just a Boss TR-2. Good question, I never really thought about that.
      For a guitar, I'm honestly in love with my G&L ASAT Classic. It's a custom build with a Classic C neck, and it's a semi-hollowbody but with no F-hole, so it's just super resonant and light. The pickups are super hot, which aren't always what the song calls for, but it's definitely my #1. For a while, I was lusting after a Mark Knopfler Strat my local music store had, though. I definitely got along with that, but I could never get them to come down to a price I could afford, then it sold :(

  • @Zafersernikli

    I use Whammy DT for transposition. I tune down my guitar by 4 semitones to standard C with it in some songs on stage. I also use it for 1 octave momentary pedal moves to create noise. I just wanted to purchase this thing for my alternative smaller rig that I need for traveling. I don’t understand (kinda do but not respect) why Digitech developed 2 different products, this and Drop. If this thing had all the semitones, there would be no need for Drop unless you use it as an octave pedal. Now, two pedals instead of one… Such a rig “downsizing”…

    Would it be a solution to get the the tone of 24th fret on a 22 frets guitar ? For instance during a solo?

    • @StompboxBreakdown
      @StompboxBreakdown  2 года назад

      I’d probably just bend up a whole step. The pedal would help keep the increment more consistent but I wouldn’t want to have to think about my feet while I’m doing a solo to the top of my fretboard.
