- Do you know why this fantastic GCI woodie changed it's name for the 2011 season from Evel Knievel to American Thunder?

The most underrated little woodie ever. This is just a super fun ride.
I rode this one like five times in a row one year. It's definitely one of the better coasters in the park.
this is my favorite coaster here (its my home (pray) it barley beats out mr freeze)
This is one of my favorites.. the pacing.. the airtime.. wonderful.
the best small track coaster I've ever been on. And the video goes much better with a touch of dubstep
I rode this today and it's awesome! Not to fast but still crazy fun. Definitely good if you're not into roller coasters with loops and crazy turns and what not.
Most underrated coaster in America
Probably because it's a copy of a coaster called Thunderbird in Finland
This was the first roller coaster ride I rode
I went on it and I was scared but tbh it was the best ride there besides the Batman! I was in the third row and I literally looked like a dead chicken in the drop photo! And it helped my fear of roller coasters now I love them!
No the Mr Freeze beats it if you have rode that
My opinion though!
JJANG JANG MAN BOONG BOONG same! Omg!
Sameeee
I miss riding this... I wish I could go and ride it right now!
six flags chose not to renew the license for the Evil Knievel name. the same happened with Tony Hawk's Big Spin (now called Pandemonium)
I went to Six Flags for the first time in 20+ years, and rode this yesterday. I absolutely loved this coaster.
This ride is too much fun I love it.
This is one of my favorite rides in the park, and watching this brings back so many fond memories. There were times when me and my friend rode this thing back to back several times in a row, walking down the exit path only to make a U-turn right back into the entrance. Not many people were at the park because it had just rained so we didn't have to wait in line at all. Wooden coasters are masterpieces.
The name change was due to the removal of the Evel Knievel licensing from the six flags parks.
When i say i was so scared when i rode the american thunder that first drop omg was crazy
Ive ridden every roller coaster at six flags St. Louis at least 6 or 7 times, as its my home park. But three roller coasters here NEVER get boring. No rides there are boring but the three are Mr.Freeze Reverse Blast, Evil Kenivel( now known as American thunder), and The Boss.
This was my first coaster ride! It was so fun!
Rode it yesterday with my friend defiantly best ride other than the bosd
I have ridden every ride at six flags and I'd have to say this is in top 5
One of my favorites.
That's like one of the Top 10 Fastest GCI Coasters around the world!!
i love this ride!
I love that ride I went on it like 20 times
First big roller coaster and it was awesome.
in Finland there is Thunderbird exactly same coaster
hanuchan but that's so far away you probley won't be able to ride both
Its Awesome Ride! I just had a little headache after the ride.. BUT IT WAS AWESOME!!
Ayaina Clark right!
I love this coaster!
Six Flags St. Louis is a smaller park...
I have been to some of the best in the world, and this one is in my top 5 all time. The amount of airtime is ridiculous. Should also say that The Boss is a world class woodie very unique in the refrain and trick track.
The Screaming Eagle is a legend and it's still fun to take my family on.
We are season pass holders...and despite the riff raff of St. Louis and the carnie atmosphere, its a great little park.
My oh my what I wouldn't give to ride that.
I rode it today. It was So fun!
beautiful coaster!
their favorite is boulder dash in coneticut if u get a changce go there its absolutley amazing
This is an amazing coaster the ride team Takes care of it long live American Thunder!
This one was the best!
Imagine this ride but also taller and w/ 2 giant hills before this ride? That's pretty much what El Toro is like. If you haven't done so, check that ride out - El Frickin' Toro, not kidding. That ride is absolutely sick!
THIS RIDE SEEMS REALLY COOL
In finland there is exactly same roller coaster called Thunderbird in powerpark
When I rode this yesterday I was too busy laughing at my brother who's face was like -
^ ^
This ride looks pretty sweet! I can't wait to check it out next summer. Great pov by the way!
Went on this yesterday it was fun
Looks like it has quite a tight track layout - lots of airtime too!
I went on this today it was really fun
This one does actually packs quite a punch for it's tiny size and slow speed. It's all the sharp turns and mini-hills.
This was the vary first roller coaster I've ever. Road
nice ride
that was sick
I wished I could have had a chance to ride that one. The Beast (1979) & the Boss are the 2 roughest woodies I've been on. I haven't been on the American Eagle since 2006, but I don't remember it being quite as rough, though it does have similar stats.
I rode this today I had my eyes closed the whole time! XD
Animallover 100 OMG I do that all the time on rollar coasters all the time and don't stay a word lol!
What it isnt even scary
I've ridden this ride 107 times since I first rode it in 2015.
@thetechdeckmaster09 Actually, it's pretty new, and the nails in the track and supports are always showing, regardless of the wooden ride.
(aka it's not ghetto)
i hurt my back on this one somehow lol
I love it
that looks great fast and im sure quite a bit of air time
very smooth for a woodie?? That thing looks pretty RAW !! :D :D :D !!
In MY opinion my favorites rides are Batman and the Mine train. Im going tomorrow August 2 andthey have added SkyScreamer and Boomerang sinc last time so one ofthose might be my facorites. I also really like the Scooby-Doo one, its fun to shhot stuff on it.
Sadly scooby doo was removed for justice league battle for metropolis
Thunder head at dollywood has met his match
just a crazy idea, but maby this should get a ''hybrid'' treatment, like the texas giant. the boss is a classic, and i like it that way. but this one, could also go even farther then what the texas giant is. mabey even a iron rattler or outlaw run could be made possible.
Thumbs up if you LOVE this ride.
@dacasman not side friction ones (leap the dips)
I have rode a Gci the one that I have Rode is Prowler
coasterforce are which coasters are more stable and longlasting. woodies or rergular mteal coasters??
the tracks must be frikkin magnetic by the look of some of the airtime :)
That's how it feels too lol
@sweeter1900 they changed the name because six flags dropped all the name brand stuff including evel knievel's name
apocalypse at magic mountain or this? ive only been on magic mountains
Wow, it may not be the tallest, fastest, steepest, or longest, but damn this coaster looks like it packs a PUNCH! imo Eat your heart out Boulder Dash ;D
@TheSoundDepo The trains are fixed to the track, they can't come off
This Was My Very First Rollercoaster And I Had Fun . Even Though , I was Kinda Scared .
it was my first roller coaster too
peanutt butter Did you enjoy it?
Yes
My first as well
i went on the ride last week and i went crying for my mommy xD
I wanna hear the guy who films these scream like a little girl just once
wow the end section is your bum ever in the seat ? looks major airtime
Is it just me or dose this look just like the boss
Cearra Mueller it's just you
There's something called manufacturers, ya know.
@@kaydub0623 yes but they didnt have the same manufacturer. American thunder is a gci and the boss is a cci
@@noahb4645 oh whoops. The coasters they make are pretty similar since GCI branched off of CCI. Thanks for correction.
@@kaydub0623 Actually... GCI did not branch from CCI. And the coasters they make are not similiar. Just sayin'.
cuz Evel Knievel's f*&^in dead!
wow that coaster looks fun!
how does the Boss roller coaster compare to Boulder Dash?
When I went on the American thunder last summer with my cousins when I saw that we were going down I said oh shit but it was more funner than I thought
This is the first roller coaster i ever went on. I was 12. i hate roller coasters they are fun, but they make me feel strange and the feeling in my stomach is like dfbgidsugsd
i always feel like that red pole is gonna cut my head off at 1:02!
They changed the name because this isn't the 1970s. People don't give a rip about some dude who was jumping over stuff on a motorcycle 35 years ago.
Name was changed when six flags emerged from bankruptcy.they removed wiggles,Evel Knievel, tony hawk and Thomas the train licenses to help recover
Which ride was Thomas train and wiggles
they changed them because their contract with those names were up and they didn't want to pay to renew it
@wwwCOASTERFORCEcom I'm going there soon do you have any suggestions
Coasterforce, this ir Troy?
i rode this 200
this is not as rough as screamin eagle. it's probably an 8 on smoothness for woodies, and a 6-7 compared to steel
Almost as awesome as the Boss
If the Boss wasn't so rough I would agree with you.
The only problem I have with the boss is the lack of cushioning which gives me a slight shoulder pain. Others have complained of whiplash and severe back injuries, which I don't understand.
Ben Hostetter how dose that hurt your shoulders
Ben Hostetter The Boss really hurts you a lot, and is really rough, but American Thunder on the other hand, is a GCI coaster, and GCI did a great job with it to make a really great ride, despite its height and speed. It looks much faster than 48 mph.
I never had any problems on the Boss.
why did they change the name?
Looks like the ROAR in Maryland lol but just goes the other way
That's called airtime.
on a scale from one to ten Is this As Rough As screaming eagle?
I went on this today! when you go over the bumps (1:21) you feel like your gonna fly off the tracks!! but it was really fun!
@IAmIva Actually its because of budget cuts, haha.
@wwwCOASTERFORCEcom ahh ok thank you ^_^
Very based ride
How fast is it?
50 mph
This is a very-new, smooth coaster that has no reason for Iron Horse. "Hybrid" treatment is done to rescue wood coasters that have been neglected to the point of being extremely uncomfortable or un-rideable. There is no GCI coaster, especially one of the best, American Thunder, that would benefit from Iron Horse track. Transforming a wood coaster to a steel coaster is thought by most coaster hobbyists to be a negative consequence, but the lesser of two evils (destruction or Iron Horse track).
and they ruined Roar at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom. Hopefully the "neglect" continues and Six Flags America's near indentical is left alone because it's great. The only GCI that might be a decent RMC candidate would be "Wildcat" the 1st one they did. RMC is seriously overrated tbh, the seats are lacking any real padding and the bottom bar shoves right into your legs on any airtime hill, something GCI or Gravity Group don't have a problem with, and both of them are doing inversions now too.
My gf didn't want to go on this so I kissed her on the ride
They did this because they dropped the kneivel brand or whatever that's called
I love the american thunder and pademoneum
@wwwCOASTERFORCEcom Not even El Toro, the airtime-filled, twisted monster of New Jersey?
Ride this ride 15 times w my bro and friend without getting off
Rode the Ninja 21 times with my best friend...IN A ROW
Reagan Coyne major headache?
secretman920 The Ninja does give you a serious, but fortunately brief headache. I don't know why people say other rides like the Boss or the Screamin Eagle give you a headache.
The roller coaster is fun but the lap bar hits you right in the...
I do agree that sucks about the ride
This looks like prowler from Worlds of fun
Walker Mcclain same manufacturer
