A new planet? Or the original idea of 4 had a gat clone make clones of big bad world leaders to work for him what if they abused the time machine and it created an area (the games city) that was made up of different rifts in time

I played SR3 when it came out and was overall disappointed in the end. I enjoyed it when I was playing through but when I got to the end and realized there wasn't much fun to be had afterwards that's when everything fell apart. The open world was bland compared to the diverse map in SR2 and the npc's were boring whereas the npc's in the second game had as many actions and reactions as the player did. In SR2 you could just stand there and witness crazy moments unfold without getting involved just because the npc's actually had a variety of different ways they can react to different scenarios.
Saints Row The Third felt like it should've been a linear game, the open world just brought it down.

This. Thank you. There was just something about Saints row 2 that felt balanced and more well done. Yes 3 is more over the top and ridiculous. But it just focused on that aspect too much.
What'd I say is that ridiculous things are more appealing in an environment that feels more real. While by today's standards, SR2 is far from that. But the balance makes those over the top moments more appealing, especially in a more relatable world. Saints Row 3 is still fun as fuck, but feels too much like a shameless movie.
This may not be comparable but as someone who reviewed Mafia 2 (shout out to trasknari for bringing that to my attention) compared it to jumping into a Norman Rockwell painting and shooting all of the people in it. There is a balance.
How Volition wasn't sure what to do next? The "Revelation" mission? Corporate Warfare dlc for SR2? Who wrote those?!
This game was good and enjoyable but it’s nothing like the first two tbh.
Compared to what comes after the third one the third one is not all that bad the second one is my favorite

@@BullworthGraduate i fail to see how, Saints Row The Third has much better customization options and better graphics, the only thing i can think of that's better than Saints row 3 in SR1 is the story and more cleverly written humor, but that's pretty much it. SR3 trumps it in every other way that isn't story, SR2 takes the cake from both games although
@@LoverOfManyArts - Better story, better soundtrack, memorable characters, better character development, better activites, better open-world map, better cars, memorable gangs, better sound effects especially with guns and explosions. That's what I can argue about, but at least we can agree on the better writing in the first game.

Tue hitman activities are actually still in the game, you just access them through your phone instead of a location.

SRTT badness... still a more popular and succesful game than SR 2. Also, at least The Third actually has decent optimization compared to the second one.

I'm so glad to be seeing anyone cover Saints Row these days. Love the series wholeheartedly, and it sucked to see it go under the radar for a bit. However with the recently released Switch port of The Third, and the confirmation of a movie being developed I'm so excited. Hoping there will be something Saints Row related at E3.

My personal favourite of the franchise, though SR2 is very close.
Great review once again, but can't believe you didn't mention the epic set prices such as the "Power" and "I need a Hero" in certain missions. They are what make it a memorable game for me.
Honestly I liked the setting of the game
The near future things like S.T.A.G, their vtols, the more unusual gangs, the vehicles etc. They should keep this setting.
Also liked that fact that the gang gets derelict by themself not because some new gang got more power. (I know it's happens but the Saints are already the shadow of themselves)
It's just feel lile something that surely happens after taking over a city.
I just hope they manage to combine all the things on SRTT and SR2 (without aliens and powers,) in a potential sequel
Picking the female voice is the GREATEST THING IN SAINTS ROW VIDEO GAMES, voice actor Laura Bailey Nail it, it seem more fun playing as a girl (myself too) & having her as her voice is just fun & the best & when she was singing with piecue (the American black guy on your side) they both seem in real life, like they both had a really good time making that.

I really liked SR3. I started the series with 2 and at the end, it's still my favorite but SR3 holds a special place in my memories. Especially taking that penthouse while Power plays.
By the way, I never liked how they handled Loren. I think you should've destroyed the gangs first and kill Loren last. Him killing Johnny gives the player great motivation to get him yet he dies before any of the smaller gang leaders and doesn't even get a face to face confrontation or final dialogue.
IMO saints row 2 will always be the best in the series, not just in story and gameplay, but also in content and tone, especially the latter. I'm not a big fan of being silly just for being silly, this game to me felt more like a parody than an actual sequel and when I learned that saints row IV had super powers, at that point I was done with the series.
You really didn't miss much. 4 felt rushed, and definitely more like an expansion pack to 3 rather than it's own complete experience. The superpowers basically ruined what made the first 3 so good.
The powers in 4 are useless, i literally forgot they existed 3h00 after playing. The guns are just much better

Unpopular Opinion : SRTT is my favourite one. Mainly because it was the one that introduced me to the franchise.
You should do a review on Stuntman for the PS2. It was basically a tech demo for the long-awaited Driv3r. But you should review that after doing Driver 2.

I really loved how they made the boss in sr3. He was the most likeable imo
SR3 was the turning point where SR wasn't only a GTA clone. I actually liked more SR3 over GTA4 (although I played few years after).
SR4 was almost better... But you know... The ending and the slap to the face called Gat out of Hell just killed the series.
_Saints Row_ was never a _GTA_ clone though.
I absolutely love this game. Cannot wait for the upcoming remaster.

When I first started playing SR3, I didn't put it down for a good couple of months. It's super satisfying to play. Might get it on the Switch if they fix it.
Edit: Saints Row 2 had Land Down Under by Men At Work as a radio song, and that gives it a +1 from me
just play it on PC it looks fantastic at Ultra and can maintain a constant 60 fps with a decent rig
I'm rather conflicted towards this game. I've read about it on Game Informer and I was pretty intrigued by it.
While I didn't like it as much as the second game, it does have its fun moments (such as jumping out of a plane and partaking in a gunfight while free falling) and I liked Viola Dewytner's outfit (I have a thing for leather miniskirts and boots).
For me.SR3 is good game but it was a step back from SR2
Yeah sr2 was juvenile but it was serious like the yakuza games. And it worked well this one is just juvenile which is fine but I prefer 2.
Hitman and Chopshop aren’t gone, they’re in the „Saints Book” or whatever it’s called. It’s available in your characters phone from what I remember.

As somebody who hadn't played the other SR games, this felt like the fun version of GTA 4 - and that was amazing.

I actually just beat this game again yesterday. Enjoyed it a lot more than I did when I first played it years ago.
I had Saints row 1 and Saints row 2 and I was all set to get Saints row 3, but when I saw what Saint row 3 and how they totally change the direction of the franchise I was like I'm not buying that.
I love the Saints. All of them, for differnet reasons. Saints Row The Third has a special place in my heart. I truly hope there is a 5, or even a reboot. It's been long enough.

I think it was Vice City the did "The Penitrater" fist. In fact there was 2 different ones - both found in the showers of the police station.

I loved driving in supercars, especially the neon one that I used a glitch to increase its performance even more. But it became quickly annoying to get stuck in lifted bridges when using nitro.

Honestly, Johnny Gat dying isn't like....the worst idea ever....if handled properly. His death scene would've been much more tolerable if it had been handled in the same manner as Aisha's or Carlos'. But instead he dies off-screen, from getting shot by an assault rifle. If Gat HAS to die in the third one I would've made it an on-screen, fight to his last breath thing.
This is easily my favorite game in te series and introduced my favorite Saint Kenzie. If they had kept Johnny, plus brought back Septic Avenger, and Fight Club it would have been better though IMO.
It might be because SRTT is what introduced me to the series (& Saints Row IV is my favourite of the bunch), but I can just NOT get on with 1 or 2, no matter how hard I try.
SR3 was my first too. I loved it a lot and still play it from time to time. I tried SR2 but just couldn't get into it, I liked the beginning but the activities for me were meh. I haven't revisited it since then so maybe I need to try again. SR4 is a pretty good game but it isn't all that repayable for me. I recently finished it and loved it but that's because I had like a 2 year gap in between my last playthrough. If a SR5 is made I'd love for it to be an alternate story to what happens after 3.

The death of Johnny was so poorly done that I assumed it would be a twist. I got all the way through to the end thinking there would be a big reveal. No, they just killed him off-screen like a bitch. The SR4 ret-con only made it seem even weaker.

Saints Row The Third was honestly the perfect balance of the series of both GTA clone and wacky fun
The Third was my first Saints Row cause of the very high amount silliness of gameplay and story. I was kinda hoping they put the serious tone from the Saints Row 2 tho cause it differs a lot from GTA itself. For the sake of the future of Saints Row balance it out with the humors from the Third. Definitely enhance the version of choices you make for the story gives you replayabilty a couple of times over.

I played this before Saints Row 2, and I loved 2 a lot more.
Recently I came to the conclusion that Saints Row 2 feels like a beta for a sequel for Saints Row: The Third.
EDIT: Thinking about it, finishing the game shows how much you care about it: I beat SR3, because I wasn't as interested in the game as a whole, I didn't beat 2 because I was entertained enough by it that I ended up just playing the open world. 4 I also didn't finish because the open world gameplay is fun enough as well, but in a different way.
i personally hate any saints row game after the second they ruined their franchise with the third one onwards the only thing i can praise would be the character customisation/creator thats superb

IMO Saints Row The Third is both a great open-world GTA clone and a good Saints Row game. It's fairly underrated as well and I had more fun with this than Saints Row 4 although that game is also quite good.

Saints Row 3 was my favorite entry in the franchise.
SR3 on Switch has been fixed and is as good as other versions and even better because you can use gyro aiming.

well the wraith(the neon car u get for beating all kinzies trailblazing missions) is pretty fast, and if u glitch it the customization menu u can make it go from 0 to max in an instant.

Never played SR2 because the PC port is probably the worst port in history, but SR3 will always be my favorite. I got into SR after doing a group project in my friends house in 2013, he had a PS3 and we played SR3 after finishing our project. We've created an ultra funny character, the first mission was already batshit insane but I lost my shit killing everyone with a dildo. I bought SR3 but my laptop was an AMD one and those games ran like dogshit on AMD, so sad that I couldn't play SR3. Later I started desktop gaming and SR3 was the first game that I booted, had such a good time playing that game, loved everything about, even the story and I took it more seriously than I should, I remember regreting killing Killbane for months lol
Got some good news for ya! The SR2 source code has been found by Voliton and they are working on a patch to fix the PC port. If you are impatient you could always just download a mod by IdolNinja called Gentleman Of The Row it fixes most of the PC port problems and also gives you a ton of new content. I recommend everybody who plays SR2 on PC to use Gentleman Of The Row. See ya at the row homie! Okay this is cringe af.
I think the thing that bothers me the most about 3 is not how easy it was, its the story, as it needed up's and downs, and here it felt like it was all ups after the setup, as I remember either hearing or reading that Johnny wasnt supposed to die in the start, he was supposed to come back and take over for Killbane and face up against the boss for an epic last fight as an epic last betrayal, which given what he said, like old boss vs sellout boss and then have the saints take on the world like they did in the kill killbane ending, would have been an epic way to end it.
like that and tone things down a touch at points, have a set base like that penthouse for most of the game so the player comes to know it as a proper home in it for better pacing and difficulty would have made it an epic third entry. plus bring back Elisa Dushku as Shaundi, as I was seriously bumed when they didnt bring her back for this, as she can play both a pot head and a badass pretty well really.
Saints Row 4, now, well as you state you dont like going into things with pre formed opinions, which the more I grow older the more I realize the value of that so I leave it for that, but saints row 3 after hearing that, could have been so much more.
and with how bad gta 5 got with how unlikable its characters were, is still a good game to go back to time and time again, but it could have been better, way better with a little bit more time, and willingness to burn bridges like that with Gat to truly turn the lead character into a proper anti hero who just wants to watch the world burn.
and would have really solidified the game as an all time great, like think about that, you go from just a normal street punk who nearly gets clipped in 1, to the boss who has to rebuild in 2 to a villain like the joker in Batman in 3 who then just tries to take on the world after being betrayed yet again by the people he trusted with his back.
It is fucking hilarious if you create your character with the AUSTRALIAN accent. I love it, I love SR3 over 2, because, SR2 was fucking crap on PC.
SR3 and SR4 you can play those back to back , is great stuff!

The first Saints Row I played was Saints Row 2, I had it for less than a day until my Dad came back from work and took it off me.
I agree Saints Row 2 is better.
Fun fact: Saints Row 2 is one of the first PS3 games I played.

I had no issue with them killing Johnny Gat. But it is more how they did it. If they would have done it in a similar way they killed of Carlos, it would be much better. I actually went through half of game before i realize that they really had killed him. It was just a regular scene, nothing special. So I expected him to come back.
I like Gat too but god I wish he had stayed dead in the later games. Pulling it out of their ass the way they did left a worse taste in my mouth compared to where they actually killed him.

There all fun and im glad to go back to each of them though i do want a SR2 style game in a steel port setting. But i really want the customization features in SR2 and the ability to do drugs again like in SR1. SR2 had it but not as many as SR1.
