Ahoy everyone!
My name is Nike and I have been living and sailing on my sailboat Karl since 2013. After a massive refit marathon, I finally cast off the lines and learnt to solo sail my 37-foot Reinke Super 10 that I called "Karl". I am publishing videos (at the moment every two weeks) about the ups and downs of living, repairing and sailing my boat.
Since January 2022, I have a new permanent crew member: my furry friend Boga. When I started out, I did not know much about boat repair or solo sailing. Since I am still out there, I hope that my story inspires others, to chase their dreams, even if they might think they are not cut out for it. There is always a way, so I'll see you out there!

Thanks to everybody who has supported the creation of these video and has shared this epic adventure with me so far. It would not have been the same without you!
Lots of ocean love, Nike🧜♀, Boga 🐾 and KARL ⛵

You definitely haven't lost your touch for repairing and preparing your boat for a passage.
I feel that that is something that gets easier with the years having walked through it a couple of times before :)
Did my memorable times in ship engine rooms back in the 1960's, started watching your channel when you were replacing Karl's engine, enjoyed seeing you in there again doing routine maintenance, much respect to you for all your work, efforts, knowledge and your talent for sharing your adventures...And feelings.
thanks Mark! I usually enjoy my occasional dives into the engine room. Except for the diesel stuff, jikes! Sometimes I regret I did not go electric or at least hybrid back then.....
Beautiful engine, no electric motor please.
Fair winds and Fins Up girl! Love your videos! Such a fearless powerful woman and there’s so few of us out there still! I love sailing the Caribbean and South American waters! I’ve spent most of my 50 years in those waters and are my favorite as well as the people! Thanks for your adventures can’t wait for more!
What a great episode. Both practical and emotional. You've made a lot of great videos, this is among the best. Thank you!
Whoo hoo! Time to cast off and get underway once more!
Excellent, looking forward to the next voyage.
When you need to, Nike, take a power nap! Safe travels ❤
Know that feel. “I’ll get up in … about … 5 mins … or … maybe 10 …” 😅😂🎉
🤣🤣🤣
Love your vids. Always an adventure!
thank you, happy to hear that!
C'mon Nike, perk it up. Xo Terry in Shawville Quebec Canada
You are so incredibly industrious, and you can tackle so many different tasks. Well done and we hope your actual departure goes well. Looking forward to that episode excitedly, now. Fair winds!
Being moored up too long really used to stress me out when it came time to leave, I ended up keeping the boat "ready to go" at all times and was a lot less stress. Take time to breath.
oh wow, that`s pretty good! When I am in an area that is less protected, then I am more "ready to go" usually as well. This spot was just tooooo smooth, it was more like living on a houseboat. Which was nice but did come with neglecting upkeep a bit...
I love your courage. Keep up the sailing and the show. God speed and may He give you smooth sailing.
I love the garden
I had troubles in the past crossing islands, customs had me to throw tomatoes away because of possible insects...
(90s Havana)
ahhhh I love that little garden, too, makes me so happy. But as you said, it`s not so easy for travelling and crossing borders, more for stationary life at anchor. Had a similar experience in Cuba with an onion ;)
@@WhiteSpotPirates hahaha if we keep it going, they are going to make a nice Farmer's soup!
Great garden...bendiciones...m
Hahaha, good one with the Racor little washer. I was really puzzled with mine the first time. Luckily I had taken a picture while dismantling it and it saved the day. Lots of aloe Vera on that trunk cabin, I do not know how you manage growing plant with the sea salt all around. Now have a little nap and wake-up for the next episode.🙂
good on you! By the time I realized it had two different sides it was too late for fotos - the very first time I took it apart, hahaha. Was an annoying learning process but one that definitely stuck very well, hehehe. The aloe very is actually pretty tough and does not mind the salt in the air that much. Othe more fragile plants will, though. Basil is a bit fickle to keep happy...
My Raycor is pretty grubby inside the glass bowl like yours. I didn't know how to disassemble it, until now. Thanks for sharing and safe travels to Mexico.
Yes, you can! That's for sure! and thank you! :)
Hope you had a good nap.🤗
Re special bolt / socket topic - when ever i meet a abnormal bolt/nut somewhere, i just replace it with a normal one. Life is too short to have a need for exotic tools.
that`s a really good tip, thanks for sharing! In this case, it`s not the bolt itself but the space that`s around it. A socket or wrench with normal thickness does not enter the space...Weird, I know...but not much to do except steal Paul`s tool and keep it close by ;)
Fantastic ❤
Perfect!
Great job..Thanks much !!
Keep well so wonderful to watch.
You are definitely one of a kind! Thanks for sharing your experiences. Would like to know how to help you in your journey. It’s amazing and inspiring. You have support here in Long Beach, CA. 👏🏼👏🏼
Always great videos,stay safe !
thx John!
I occasionally watch your videos to see another side of boating. I live a very very slow UK narrowboat life offgrid.. What endeared me, to comment, apart from your excellent prep.. Was the joint love for the word shite! 😂.. As a Scotsman.. Shite warms my heart 😂
😂 it’s a great word! Not as harsh but still brings the point across.
Hm narrowboats…I am very much into those as well. Well more like the old durch barges because they are not as narrow, but still ☺️
@@WhiteSpotPirates After traveling around the world twice backpacking .. The narrowboat was a chance conversion.. That's now been a 9 year offgrid way of living 😊.. The UK has 2000 miles of canals you can cruise.. But with a Dutch barge or widebeam, you can only cover 20%.. You'd miss out so much travel with a Dutch barge.. Now that would be shite! 😂
Night night Nike, you'll soon be out on the high seas,
Documentary proof that a Jill Of All Trades does exist too. 👍
Untie the lines, not just yet. Few new gremlins. Close.
Mexico might not be the friendliest place to trust as you do there. My friends stoped going because of the thief's and attacks. Praying you find happiness and safety while there.
Preparing for new adventures is exhausting for sure.
exhausting and fun at the same time ;)
@@WhiteSpotPirates I absolutely love your Vlogs. I’m on the shores of Lake Erie in New York State one day I would like to run across you on my sailboat and then take you out for dinner. Don’t hold your breath lol.
@@livingsimplytosimplylive6817 sounds like some traveling still needs to be done for those two wakes to cross ;).
Plans for tomorrow and beyond will fail most of the time, no plans but goals with a few details if nessesary. Every moment in time has more than enough to be doing with all things considered that is before me is towards my goals...m bendiciones...m😊
Time for a nappy-bys
"...shakedown cruise." 😊 I hope you got some good sleep after this vid.
hehe, yeah, I liked that one. Thanks for the inspiation :)
You are so tough!
I LIKE YOUR COFFEE CUP
😊❤
Im so jealous of other sailors that gave an actual engine room when i can barely squeeze my arm along the side of mine to check the oil. Love the garden too, have you ever tried growing sprouts?
hehe, yes it IS really a treat to have some room down there! I have grown sprouts in the past but...often grown mold at the same time - :D any recommendations?
@@WhiteSpotPirates mine mold quickly when grown in jars so I switched to little burlap/hemp bags and have had much better luck.
Oh, that sounds interesting. I do have some burlap on Karl, might give that a try!
👏👏👏
Oooh great, another sailing channel to finance….wooo hooo.
You are an amazing sailor. HOLY GRAIL will be in MX (from Akasla) starting in November '24. Please reach out if you see us. Will do the same. Such a great channel.
😀👍👍👍❤
Cute pink shirt.
