    Wouldn't sand rendering between the joists 'bridge', a damp proof course (if there was one). I know in my house with this set up the joists are resting on a course of engineering bricks

      We agree that the dpc should not be bridged with the parging (weak sand and cement render). We are assuming in this house that the engineering brick course is the dpc. To parge between the joists wouldn’t compromise the ‘dpc’ below joists but would considerably reduce wind movement as the bricks in this area are often poorly pointed.
