The CGI is really bad, but after reading that they had such a limited time to do them, especially the Scorpion King monster at the end, I am a little more forgiving.
8:06 The Rock was not a Vulcan in Voyager, he was just a generic, Delta Quadrant alien guy. Although Big Show once played an Orion slave trader on Star Trek: Enterprise.
When it first came out, I loved it. Watching it now, it’s cheesy but still super fun, although I do remember thinking the CGI looked terrible even back then
I think the catching things and throwing them back was a reference to big trouble in China. Brendan Fraser was kind of the new Kurt Russell until Chris Pratt became to the new Brendan Fraser.
Sorry Tony but the characters running from the light is (kind of) how it works. They aren't outrunning light directly but running away from the sunrise (rotation of the earth) which moves at 1000 mph. There are even videos from space where you can watch the sunrise move across the surface of the earth. But regardless they still wouldn't be able to outrun it.
I did like this movie, even though I've cited the Scorpion King as the worst CGI I've ever seen. It's really hard to get past that, even if you watch it for the lulz.
it is a good sequel, the cgi is poor, especially the scorpion king. Imhotep looks weak in some shots, when they use the costumed mummies in the British museum and some shots on the bus, it's great. The score is awesome and the horror elements are done well. It's a fun sequel, better than Tomb of the dragon emperor. Out of the trilogy, The Mummy is the best, the spin off The scorpion king, decent.
@@jordanbetteridge1598 I can’t remember the exact thing that Oliver Stone said but basically that no matter what accent she had, it wouldn’t be the accent of that time period. She was from a different tribe and so had a harsher, more barbaric accent. Oliver Stones commentary on the movie is great. He also has a book(not sure if he wrote it or not) basically of all the sources of info pertaining to the movie. He also did that with JFK and that book was really good.
Yay, Mindhunter with Christian Slater! Everyone is always referencing some tv show with the same name, and I always get excited to talk about that movie.
I think I know where the confusion of who told the parents (and us ad the audience) the kid would die first is coming from. If I remember correctly, Ardeth tells them that the kid putting the bracelet on will cause the world to end in 7 days, but not that the kid will die when the time is up, then Imhotep reveals that detail in the latter scene.
So I saw The Mummy Returns when it was on TV AMC, Syfy, etc. and I thought it was fine and fun and I’m a sucker of a fan of Rachel Weisz, look forward to you guys talking about The Mummy 3 Tomb of the Dragon Emperor with Kira and Johanna
38:39 They zoom in on his mouth, as he's talking, and switch from the ancient Egypt language to English. That was purposely done for the audience. In the context of the scene, the characters are actually still speaking in his native tongue. But to make the plot heavy scene easier to digest, aka: less subtitles, they have it switch to English right away. Think of Disney's Tarzan, when he's speaking to the gorillas, it's in English. But around the humans it's all monkey sounds. Same thing. It's just a convenience thing for your average audience who doesn't want to read subtitles.
First movie was a classic, wasnt a big fan of the rest, but still watched and enjoyed (parts of them anyways) the rest of the series. Always nice to see Kira on the show 👍👍
To me this is the kind of sequel that even if it's not that good, it's still worthy because it has such likeable characters, you just want to watch them again.
What works about Returns: Terrific follow up that never distanced itself from the first film. Felt like a very natural second chapter. Cast is still terrific! I love seeing Evie and Rick as a married couple now. She’s a badass and Rick is one of the greatest on-screen heroes, ever! Ardeth is an awesome supporting character, and Imhotep is still one of my absolute favorite villains. Scorpion King is a very cool and promising idea of a new villain. Action scenes are fantastic and thrilling, and there’s a lot of it! Felt like a roller coaster. First 45 minutes never stops! Jerry Goldsmith’s score was AMAZING in the first! Alan Silvestri turns it up a notch and creates a memorable theme for the franchise! Might be my favorite Silvestri score! What doesn’t work about Returns: CGI for sure Scorpion King was a disappointment Less humor and witty dialogue than the first Action got a little repetitive by the end. Still a fantastic and really fun sequel. One of my absolute favorite pure-action films and still a very rousing adventure on its own. Not as good as the first but still a lot of fun!
Deep Rising was a good movie too. its a TRAVESTY that there wasnt a Ardeth Bey spinoff, but there are FIVE Scorpion Kings i just wanted Malcoms daughter to come back because im such a fan of JP2, and JW3:JP6 had ENTIRELY too little gymnastics. i like the new black lady too, they could have BOTH been in the film. great review guys. i'm team "more Kira please" YAY
I liked the movie and I liked all the actors/characters -- including the kid. I also think they could reboot the series by introducing Rick and Evie's grandson/granddaughter to carry on the family tradition with some cameos by the og actors.
Don't forget how the Ptolomies (Greeks) installed themselves on the Egyptian throne and impressed themselves upon the Egyptian nobility. Ancient Egypt was somewhat of a melting pot which may have had majority populations but was also very diverse.
JUST give it a GCI remastering -- everything including the Anubis army but most importantly Scorpion King. Only then will it be perfect! Loved this movie as a kid. It turned me into a little Egyptologist which stuck with me. I still consider it my all time favorite film. Could still enjoy it today.
Was stoked when it came out. Kinda hated it when I saw it on opening night…that CGI is awful. Especially The Scorpion King. 🤦🏻♂️. I checked out of the series after this one and the stand alone (see what I did there?) Scorpion King movie. The ride at Universal rules though!
I saw this at the movies (City Theater) in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, in 2001. I hated the smart son character and wanted to leave when the last 40/45 minutes of the movie started. There was so much stuff going on (the movie was so extremely over bloated), bad special effects, a lot of fights (starting with the Pigmies), etc...I really wanted to leave, but I stayed until it was finished. Anyways, I still am not a fan of this sequel...but I can watch it! But the first movie was an easier watcheable and balanced movie. Oded Fehr is an awesome character in these movies btw.!
Remembering very vividly how disapointed I was seeing that bad CGI The Rock-Scorpion abomination in the Theater back then. Apart from that I remember that I liked this movie. :D Great Episode.
I remember being SO stoked waiting to see The Rock come back at the end, only to have my mouth drop to the floor when he was an actual fucking Scorpion 😅.
It's still a fun watch. Even if the plot is a little too bloated. The sequence with the mummy guards chasing them on the bus was very cool as well as the airship. Thankfully, Dwayne's career survived this.
I enjoyed it more than the first one, much more. Yes, the cast looks great. It’s very pretty looking. And I loved the little miniature mummy creatures with the blow darts, that was awesome!
45:25 isn't desert sand way to dry to build a sandcastle out of? So the kid had to pee on the sand to make those sandcastles. And now you're thinking of a kid playing with piss sand, you're welcome!
We have now confirmed both Kira and Tony are KNOT furries everyone. They are KNOT furries......at least openly. Even if Kira said Anubis was hot,........yea.......but KNOT furries!
About Nefertiti and Anchesenamun: Nefertiti was the mother of Anchesenamun and the (step?)mother of Tuthankhamun.
