      Ferrari messed up Alonso's strategy, costing him the championship. But 2012 would still be the best season for Alonso since he was able to drag that piggy Ferrari into the championship fight.

    From the start of the 2010 Season, I believed Sebastian could clinch the title. There was me, this 19 year old who started watching F1 when I heard the news that a Toro Rosso was on pole in Monza just 2 years prior. Every pole he got, to be squandered by bad luck kept my heart pounding, and eyes red from tears. I won a contest that year and got the chance to meet Seb, and I can say he was a great guy to meet. I felt like I was in front of my hero, and inside I kept belief he would win.
    At Abu Dhabi, I really thought my brother would be screaming in elation for Alonso to win, being the hardened Ferrari fan that he is. But with every lap that Alonso was behind Vitaly Petrov, I was shaking, riveted by the drama with each corner.
    Finally the chequered flag and I couldn't believe what happened. Vettel was the champion of the world. I was left in tears. I believed and he finally did it. I was truly amazed by the season, and by Sebastian. It's hard to believe now it's been 10 years. Now, I'm 29, and seeing how Sebastian has been in Ferrari the last few years, really tested my faith in him. I know deep inside he's still that incredible driver who clinched those amazing 4 titles, but I can only imagine what he's going through mentally with all the setbacks year after year as Mercedes dominate, and now, the irony of having a young talent usurping his position as top driver for the team. I can't say I'm at the same level of belief in him as I was at 19, but somewhere inside, I feel he IS still a top tier racer, and more importantly, a champion.

    • @CYMotorsport
      @CYMotorsport  4 года назад +44

      I'm glad this video could revive those emotions. because its the dominating headline going into 2020, the reviews of 2010 and 2012 not only serve as tools to hold everyone over in the offseason, but also to remind people how things change in F1. under the right circumstance, a champion can be emerge from their lowest places. I don't think Vettel shares schumi's will to win, or lackthereof, in the latter end of his career. I think vettel is used to winning. he hasn't handle to deal with losing to a teammate. what's for sure is, he WILL respond. I'm eager to see how he does !

I wouldn’t work for liberty even for Hamilton’s salary haha just bc I want to be able to say what I want to and how I want to. But I do think it’s possible if this channel grows they relax the aggressive claims against me and allow video clips up to 10 seconds. I’m happy to keep shining a light on the gaps in their channel. They think they are so big bc their content is so good. In reality, they are so big bc they squeeze independent channels out. And you all don’t have a choice but to go to the main channel. Won’t happen here though. So keep the feedback coming and I’ll keep improving what gets published :)

      He made so many immature mistakes but was given a free pass, if you compare Hamilton and Max's early career you see that Max is way ahead of Lewis, the media wanted to make Max the infant terrible. Probably my favorite season of F1, certainly in the recent past anyway. Five drivers still able to win it with three races to go, ok Jenson was very much an outside chance but he could have, no worse odds than Kimi in 2007. There were so many stories and narratives running through the season.
    Starting with Red Bull. The Red Bull was very much the class of the field but the drivers made it hard for themselves. You have that incredible stat that Seb never led the championship at any point prior to winning it in Abu Dhabi but that makes it look like he lucked into it and doesn't paint the full picture. If Red Bull was the class of the field then Seb was the class of Red Bull (as a Webber fan at the time I never thought I would be writing that) but Seb had a huge amount of misfortune, some his fault, some not. He lost nailed on wins in Bahrain and Korea due to reliability and instead of 50 points took 12 from those two races. Then you have the ones that were his own fault. Turkey was very much his fault, a silly maneuver, and he lost points in Silverstone and Hungary due to getting overly combative with Webber too. Seb was fast though and he was the guy to beat all year, 10/19 poles kind of says it all. I think there was still a bit of immaturity from Seb this year, it was only his third full season after all and second running at the front. As for Webber, I don't recall him having any reliability issues but he crashed out of two races, Valencia in spectacular fashion and Korea, I don't think he would have been in contention for the win in either (maybe Korea after Seb retired) but certainly lost a bag full of points, points that may have swayed Red Bulls thinking come crunch time. Mark was also very quick, had shades of the Barrichello and Schumacher with him and Seb, where at some races Seb just couldn't look near him but he had too many weaker weekends. You can understand his frustration at Red Bull not throwing their weight behind his challenge when he was ahead on points in the last few races and that probably affected him. There is little doubt in my mind that politically in Red Bull they wanted Seb to win. As I said before though it doesn't really paint the full picture, Webber had a great season but Seb was the guy to beat the whole time even though he never led the championship, I can guarantee he was the guy they all asked their teams what time has X done? through practice and qualifying.
    Ferrari. It really was a quite incredible season for Ferrari. They never really had the fastest car at any point, they were pretty close around the Italian and Singapore Grands Prix but it was never the car to be in, that was usually the Red Bull, Mclaren at a few of the races. Alonso's relentless consistency and race pace got him to the lead of the championship, coupled with some amazing drives such as at Singapore. He was the benefactor in both Bahrain and Korea from Sebs engine troubles so had a bit of luck, he will be rueing his crash in Spa though and had his own bit of engine trouble in Malaysia, although it cost him less points than others engine troubles. Sadly for Ferrari, Massa just wasn't quite at the same level, his form was patchy and he was never on Alonso's pace. Sadly I don't think he ever mentally recovered from his crash in 2009 and things like the Germany incident in 2010 just crushed his spirit, I think Massa was always quite an emotional driver who needed to mentally be in the right place to perform and I don't think he ever found that place again.
    Mclaren. You had this great background story at Mclaren, the world champion, Jenson Button had dared to stray into the lions den and moved to Lewis Hamilton's Mclaren team. Most people thought Jenson was a fool and expected Lewis to destroy him, but it just didn't happen. It is probably fair to say that Lewis had the slight upper hand on outright pace most of the time but Jenson was very consistent and by winning the second race of the season in Australia I think that gave Jenson an enormous confidence boost. Even at the time the opinion was that Jenson only won in 2009 due to the Brawn car and even then he only just held on, having quite a poor finish to the season, and he must have secretly been a bit worried about going up against Lewis in the same car. He smashed that into touch with a great win in Australia, proving he could win without a Brawn and he could beat Lewis, great stuff. I don't think Lewis was in the best place around the 2010 - 2011 time, his form fluctuated, he got into incidents. Lewis was also quite unlucky with reliability, he took great wins in Canada and Spa, Turkey was a great win too, one where he managed to stamp his authority on Jenson after Jenson's very strong start to the season, but that was only a win due to Red Bulls shenanigans. It is quite amazing that Lewis was still technically in it at Abu Dhabi but you never really felt like he was in it, it was always Vettel vs Alonso vs Webber.
    That's without even mentioning the other star of 2010, Robert Kubica, a consistent points scorer and 3 x podium visitor in a pretty rubbish car up against very strong Red Bull, Mclaren and Ferraris, even the Mercedes was faster than it so if you take reliability out of the equation 9th - 10th should have been where he was finishing.
    Great season, great drivers.

    • @TheBryanbas
      @TheBryanbas 2 года назад

      Lewis did smash Jenson in 2010 for the most part. Australia the the team switched his strategy as he was about to catch Kubica for 2nd. Something about that decision was off. Lewis thoroughly beat him in qualy majority of times and also in the race. What really screwed his title hopes were the DNFs in Monza and Singapore due to run in with the RBs. Monza was more his fault but Singapore was pretty much all on Mark. With all that being said everything would have had to gone his way for him to win 2010; but i believe he drove better than Vettel that season. 2010 was the epitome of needing luck to win in F1. Despite his 3 DNFs and mistakes, Vettel’s RB held uo when it mattered and he lucked out with Ferrari shafting Alonso. Underrated season that was hard fought by 5 amazing drivers

    Way way back when I looked motorcycle racing regs one of the rules was that you must try and win the race.
    I can't find that rule any more but it makes sense that if you want to be in a race you should be racing to win.
    I have never liked the idea of winning championships without any wins or hanging back when you have enough points lead.
    But most racers don't do that and think the same thing.

    • @CYMotorsport
      @CYMotorsport  4 года назад

      are you referencing Vettel here or just overall?

    • @Igbon5
      @Igbon5 4 года назад

      @@CYMotorsport
      Yeah I wasn't very clear. I mean overall.
      In this case, team orders ah la Vettel.
      In other cases, hanging back to interfere with other racers to help a teammate.
      Even something like the last race of the season and only 2 points are needed, or something like that and the racer settles for 2nd or 6th, deliberately.
      I understand not taking big risks but they should still race.
      That's what it is all about, racing. And it is not a team sport in that sense.
      If you are out there and you are not trying to win then you are not racing and if you are not racing you should not be out there.
      If that rule was in place they wouldn't have needed the explicit rule change.
      What do you think?

    After the second round the points in the constructors championship were wrong but I appreciate the fact you listened to me and included the top 5 in the standings after each race. Also you captured the 2010 season very well, it's so sad to see how dominant F1 has become in the last 6 years year after year coming into the season with hope of a close fight only for Mercedes to cruise to the title.

      of the things that could have went wrong in a 36 minute video, i'm stoked I didn't miss anything else major. this was the reason I was delayed responding to you haha I forgot to change the colors to be consistent with team and drivers so I had to go back 19 times by hands for the 5 teams and 5 drivers per race. @@CYMotorsport no worries mate I wanted to point it out for the future and as you can tell I'm really enjoying these videos. If you haven't decided for the next season to review I'd say 2008 or 2007 those two were one of the best sessons in the 2000s. Also a suggestion maybe you could put up a picture of the race standings after each race from wikipedia it looks decent and it would be easier to follow. 👍

      @@noxvi4753 yeah you correctly identify the type of solution. I have to balance production value with my own customization - and all the human error that comes with it. especially bc that's the most boring aspect of these videos and I hate doing that particular part haha. I think you have a point that it's worth dropping the visual side to not sacrifice the "correctness". don't ever feel like you can't tell me that stuff I know it's from the right place and I have a weird memory about comments and people so I def will connect we've talked elsewhere and you're invested in the content and want to see the channel grow. feedback from that perspective is not only welcome, it's mission critical. and it wasnt like red bull was sacrificing marks races the help seb. there was silverstone but its so blown out of proportion, both Helmut and Newey say that mark didnt like the front wing, should they have told him, yes but its not like they where ripping his car apart to help sebastian

    This is why Vettel’s championships were better! Vettel had to fight for every point, every metre of the track, every inch! Vettel did NOT dominate! He had to fight his hardest to win his 4 championships and sadly Ferrari was unable to provide him in ‘15 ‘17 and ‘18! THREE more world championships for Vettel were thrown away by the lacking reliability of Ferrari!
    ‘All these facilities and you make a piece of crap like this’ from Niki Lauda in Rush fits perfectly for Vettel’s 6 years with Ferrari! He even gave up talks with Mercedes in 2018 because of strong results! Imagine that!? Vettel in a Mercedes!
    He’s 2 years younger than Hamilton and I want to believe he has at least enough left in him to match Fangio or even pass him! I do hope AM continue to improve and become a title contender next season!
    Thirdly, I don’t understand what Hamilton meant by the Fans being disappointed with Vettel’s domination! He wasn’t ‘dominating’, he had to fight for it and Hamilton was fighting him!

    • @MT-pv2rf

      You are clueless, pal. If Timo Glock really had an agenda to make Hamilton champion then why didn't he just pit like everyone else? He was behind Hamilton before the pit stops so if he wanted Hamilton to win he would have just pit as well which would mean he stayed behind well behind Hamilton.
      Staying out meant that Glock actually gained a position over Kovallainen. He was behind him before the pit stops and beat him to the finish line by staying out.
