    We are living on a strange world. I see guys talking to a lens, with no sample no nothing, just talking to the lens and no one is complaining. Now I see this great video with samples and everything you need from a lens and 123 dislikes? What is up with that? Well done. This video is better than most camera related boring videos I see on youtube.

      Brilliant video, I'm subscribing to Gemini connect. I had the 55-200 and it was great. I then sold it for the 50-140, and it IS better, absolutely my favourite lens ever (including expensive Leica). It's too heavy to carry around all the time, though, so I'm going to get another 55-200 as well, hopefully second-hand, for the ease of use (more money than sense, but with the 10-24 it is a manageable package to carry). Your videos are great, I can't hold it that steady even when it's warm. When taking the pictures of Seattle, why not rest your elbows on the handy fence they kindly built there for you?
      I have been photographing for nearly 60 years and was a bit of a snob, hardly ever using the screen to take pictures, it always had to be the viewfinder. Having seen this video, I'll use the screen much more now. I do wish you had forgotten to take the lens cap off the 50-140, it would have made me laugh. We've all done it!

      I own the XF50-140 F2.8 lens, and I can't figure out someone making a video of a lens having this smart hood feature, couldn't understand why this opening in the lens hood, is surely proving that she doesn't use polarizers, that is always tricky to adjust when the lens hood is on.. She hold the camera lens like she was using a phone. This video doesn't even try to track BIF and compare the two lenses on the ability to tract birds. Nice people but not very informative for anybody wanting to make their mind between the two.

    I really want a 2 camera harness, with two XT3 bodies... one with the 16-55/2.8, another with the 50-140/2.8... and a bag with the macro lens, 16 and 56mm primes...and the 100-400...
    and a little pocket sized camera setup like the x-t20 woth a 27mm f/2.8 ....
    Fuji has me in love, and I will be starting my adventure into this ecosystem just as soon as I can...
    I'm not coming from Canon, Nikon, or Sony.... rather from Pentax ... I still love Pentax, but the manual controls and styling of the X-T1, 2, and 3... they bring me right back to the days when I learned on 35mm film...just with autofocus...

    I tried both for a while and ended up selling the 55-200 and keeping the 50-140. Don't use it much, but when I need it I have no regrets about going with the bigger, heavier, more expensive option. And totally agree, the images and color saturation out of that lens are amazing. Just my opinion, but part of your issue with the lager lens might be your shooting position. Holding it from the top rather than cradling it from underneath looks uncomfortable and I know there is no way I could have kept it steady with that technique.

    For landscapes, the larger aperture doesn't matter, plus most zoom lenses aren't their sharpest wide open. The 50 140 is really a portrait lens but could do landscapes well, the 55 200 probably a better option for landscapes and its as sharp as the 50 140mm

  • @BenjaminKanarek

    That piece is for a polarizing filter so you can rotate it without removing the lens hood. When we use the lens for video, we use a monopod: ruclips.net/video/HCFWOMafQN0/видео.html ruclips.net/video/xAy_S8_BilA/видео.html You can get up to 4 and a half stops of lens stabilization on the 50-140 lens.

  • @richardharvey1732
    @richardharvey1732 5 лет назад +1

    Hi you two, good effort, perhaps you should mention that the 50-140 is two stops faster than the 55-200, which relates to the physical properties of lenses, faster lenses have to be much bigger to let in more light which allows the slower shutter speed for the same exposure!. I am quite surprised to see you using such expensive and fragile equipment without any strap, I carry my XT2 with a long strap over one shoulder, one end fixed to the lower battery extension fitting on the camera and the other end on the tripod mount with an attachment that allows for tripod mounting as well. This combination lets me carry the camera at my left hip, with the lens, usually the 100-400 but also the 50-140, pointing downwards so that the focusing mechanism is resting at the lower end of its travel, actually it is only the horizontal travel position which is not advised because it allows the focusing mechanism the slop freely from on end to the other which may cause degradation of the buffers. This is an unfortunate characteristic of Fujinon lenses with linear motor focusing systems with very low friction, which are only active while the camera is switched on.
    This comfortable and safe, carrying position allows me to walk around with both hands free, but when I want to shoot I can quickly swing the camera and lens up into the desired position, checking its settings and turning it on as I do so, but at all times the whole lot if securely attached to me at all times. There are of course any number of occasions when I find the combination of straps and gadgets getting in each others way, especially when I'm carrying a bag of spare lenses and binoculars, not to mention telescope and tripod, those last the ones most often left in the car. Sometimes I yearn for the good old days of point and shoot bridge cameras, light weight, no lens changing, no bother with checking settings, and of course no really good pictures either!, into every life a little rain must fall!.
    Now that I have done this comment I realise that once again I've been banging on about things that are probably of little or no interest to you or any of your followers, my only excuse is that I find it useful to go over some of what I've learnt this last ten years, the exercise of putting it into words that at least appear to be logical and consistent is I think, good for me!. Any comments or observations on that theme would of course be welcome. Cheers, Richard.

      We have both lenses. Started with the 55-200mm and it is definitely smaller and cheaper, so better for travel. It isn't as sharp though and also does not perform well in low light. So it really depends on how you plan to use the lens.

      We like the 18-135 and think it's a great all-around lens if you shoot in good lighting, prefer a wider focal range, only have the budget to buy one lens. However, if you can buy a couple of lenses, the 18-55 is better as it is more compact and allows you to shoot in lower lighting.
