I don't understand how you don't even need to file the nut slots.. When, you restring the uke for a left handed player, you are placing the low D string into the slot that was cut for the high E string, Isn't the slot too narrow? Similarly, won't the high E string be sitting in a nut slot that is much too wide?

hi soham yes the tuning is different DGBE you need to check the nut and make sure the string fits correctly if not re-cut the nut or replace it for a left handed nut HTH

This is for a left handed player
If you're left handed, (like me) I highly recommend not re stringing. Turn the Uke upside down, and learn the chords upside down. I couldn't find any instructions on learning them that way, so I just took it one chord at a time. Here's what I found out:
Most of the Uke chords are easier to play upside down. (true!) Try it and you'll see. Beginning right handers have trouble with chords like E, D, Bb and others. If you re-string the instrument to play left handed, you'll also have trouble with those chords. Those chords are very easy upside down. Of course there are exceptions. I cannot play F#, F7, F#7, Ab, and a few others upside down. For those I move to position #2. Just like on a guitar, chords appear in different places on the Ukulele. Position #2, or #3 are higher pitched, but the same chords. And simple to play upside down in position #2. I often split the song up into chords in the regular spot and the #2 spot. It adds more voices to the song, IMO. By learning all the major, minor, 7th, and various other chords upside down, I can play any right handers instrument.
Is it not confusing to strum the wrong direction as well as have to learn chords upside down every step you progress?
@@slozenger9000 I strum the regular way. I don't think it sounds different, or very minor different. Certainly not noticeable to my ears. But I urge left handers to just try it and see for themselves.

@@becayebalde3820 Honestly its not a big effort (an good practice for the inevitable snapped string!) and you will learn so much faster on your natural side!

Hi Michael thanks for your comment I didn't think I would need to dicuss the order of the strings but as this is a Baritone Uku it would be DGBA to ABGD if it was a soprano, concert or tenor it would be gCEA moving to AECg hope that helps Ian
Thank you....I haven't even started yet, so I need to start understanding the whole works from the very beginning...you probably assumed otherwise.
@@IanJCole Chiming in as another newbie.. the strings look a different thickness.. so which string needs to go where is the bit I need to know!
This could have been a 2 min vid, as you didn't have to do anything with the nut. seemed like 10 minutes of changing the strings. Only real advice here is to flip the bridge, which is good advice.
