"We didn't get into playing the ukulele because we're scared, did we? We got into playing the ukulele because we're brave." That's exactly the encouragement I needed to change the strings on my baritone; I was a bit nervous about it after one of the previous set of new strings snapped on me for no apparent reason soon after I put them on. The uke sat in its stand for the longest time, daring me to change its strings again and to do it RIGHT this time. Found your video after quickly giving up on a British guy who was doing more to put me to sleep than inform me. You totally took the stress out of my string-tying quandary, and with new-found bravery, I was able tie and then wind my new strings--in the proper counterclockwise/clockwise directions, of course. Thanks, Danielle.
I forgot about a guitar given to me by a collector of interesting things & found it today. I thought, great! 4 strings, I’ll use it with my cigar box guitars & tune it to a blues key! I looked up the model only to find it’s a ukulele😮. realized strings twanged, searched how to string & tune this new strange little baritone & found you. Appreciate your quick tutorial:) Now about to hear if a Hawaiian meets Mississippi Delta sound works🌺🐊🦐🐋
You are my hero. It's been about 3 years since I last re-strung my baritone and I play the thing every darn day. Maybe I should change my strings. But like you said, I play the baritone ukulele because I'm brave.
YOU ARE SO BRAVE!!!!!!! I usually end up changing every 2 years or so. Time flies when you're not paying attention to the last time you changed your baritone ukulele strings!
THANK YOUUUUU. Shamefully, I've been playing my baritone for like 5 years but have never changed the strings myself. Fixed that tonight, and this was the first non-boring instructional video like this I've ever seen.
Today marks 1 year since I first started playing with the goal of playing every single day and I'm really happy I managed to do that. Honestly, learning how to change strings was so stressful - all the other tutorials I found seemed to breeze through how to actually tie the strings at the bottom but you explained it so well and I finally got it. This is my go to every time I get new strings, thank you so much!
I was searching for videos to help my Grandma restring her Baritone Uke, and I’m so pleased to see you again!! I’m from Cedar City Utah, and I used to work on Groovefest. I hope you are well Danielle who ate the Sandwich!!!!! 💖🌈 Thank you so much.
Thank goodness for this video! My brain struggles with the string changing process and everytime I remember this video exists and I put on my hat and I grab my string wonder - I feel empowered!!! Thanks, Danielle! ❤😊 #yeswecan
Haha! Thank you for this, Danielle - we just picked up our very first baritone uke and were worried about that camplicated looking knot, but watching this video it's now clear that, as long as Macaulay Culkin is overseeing the process, very little can go wrong :) Oh and that song at the end was absolutely beautiful!
You can also get a "tenor guitar" and tune it DGBE. I saw Neko Case last year, and she had an electric tenor Gibson SG. Never knew there was such a thing. Also try a set of Nashville tuned strings on your 6-string guitar. Options abound.
You had me cracking up through this video. We have the same sense of humor. Lol! I love my little bari-uke. She's so cute. I am feeling very brave to learn how to restring my own instruments. It intimidates me. But you have given me the strength and courage to conquer this Goliath. 😂
One thing about changing strings which you didn’t address is that if it’s been a long time since you’ve changed your strings it’s an excellent time to clean and condition your fretboard however you have to take all the strings off first. Rhett Shull has an excellent video about cleaning. I just changed the strings on my tenor uke and it gave me the opportunity to condition the very dry fretboard with lemon oil. Also, if you don’t have a wire cutter a nail clipper does fine clipping the strings in a pinch.
That was so entertaining. That last chord 😂 This came at the perfect time for me. I just bought a buttload of strings and have declared 2019 as my year of string experimentation. Hoping it helps me to stop buying new ukes. 😉
Haha! Good luck!!! The string game can change a lot - and if you're tempted to buy a new uke, try changing up the high G/low G situation or use alternate tunings. This is only advice if you can't afford new ukuleles. If you can, obviously buy them ALL, but if you're trying to pinch the penny, you can try some things to keep it fresh.
HAAAAPPPPPPYYYYYY BIRRRRRRRTTTTHHHHHHDDDDDDAAAAAYYYYYYYYYY you share a birthday with Mozart and my Dad! I love you so much and I have followed your music for 6 years!
Danielle, this is wonderful!!! I love it that you are doing some instructional videos now!!! I'm going to share it on my ukulele group FB page! Would you consider doing an instructional video on how to change the key of a song to better fit a person's vocal range? Thank you for all you do!!! Love you! xoxoxo
As for remembering which way to turn the tuner, as with guitars, the string always goes from the nut to the inside of the tuning peg. That keeps the line of the string over the nut as straight as possible.
I was looking at how the strings were tied on my bridge and I think the last time these strings were changed, was the last time I was at your place and you did it for me. DOES THAT SOUND RIGHT!?
what brand of strings do you recommend/where do you usually buy them? the G string on my baritone has started unraveling so the sound is awful haha :( want to make sure I get a good replacement so it doesn't happen again
Hey, thanks Danielle! I have a bunch of guitars ( nice Tele back there BTW), but this is my first ukulele, so that was very helpful!. And I heart your humor and sweater!
I don't have a tutorial for pin bridges, but I pull the pins out with a plier (and wrap a cloth around the pin so I don't scratch it) then tie 2 or 3 knots at the end of the string, stuff it in there, catching the bottom of the pin on the knot and pushing it all the way down. You'll fight with the tension as you tighten and tune the string, so I make sure to hold the pin with my finger and push in as I tighten the tuning peg. It might help to look up an acoustic guitar string changing tutorial - they use pin bridges!
Thanks for the tutorial Danielle. I cranked that oily chicken winged soldier boy and through some erotic winding I was churning butter. I cut off those crusty goof balls and Jebediah!!! After a number of attempts, I re-stringed my uke for the first time. lol

Woo hoo! That was my goal and I've been known to let the strings stay on for a long time. I'm glad you liked the video!
Stopped by for the bari tuning, stayed for the ochre sweater.

Now I totally want to hear you do a cover of "These Boots Are Made for Walkin"
ARE YOU READY BOOTS? STAHT WALKEN!
Yesss!!! I started singing it after she did. Lol
In this instructional video you are Danielle wears the Sweater. Enjoyed it.
Do not own or play Ukulele, but was thoroughly entertained throughout =)
"Jebediah . . . Jebediah!" You cracked me up with that one! Thanks for helping me spit coffee out onto my baritone!
You are simply AWESOME!! I laughed this whole video while also learning to change my bari strings today. Thank you so much!!
Just got new strings for the first time in 4 years of having this, thank you bari much for the guide :)

Thanks. You are awesome!! Keep the videos coming.
Love this video! You are both informative and playful! Thank you!
I'm glad you posted this. I have been considering getting a ukulele and like the sound of the baritone.
Educational and entertaining. 10 out of 10 would recommend.

"Tuned for now" lol I love your sense of humor.
WHOA! The baritone is tuned D, G, B, E? Like the high strings on a guitar?
Oh my gosh, I might have to get a baritone ukulele now!
You totally already play the baritone ukulele and you didn't even realize it!!!!!

April 2016!!! They look like how I tie them..that was a great time!❤️❤️❤️❤️
Also I noticed from the video it looks kind you still have the plastic shipping circle covers on the back of your tuners??? Ha
Thanks
Which strings do you actually get? There are three choices on the drop down menu. Do you get the fluorocarbon wound d & g? Thanks.

how often does a new g string on a baritone ukulele go out of tune
I have a pin bridge baritone ukulele- do u know how I’m supposed to change the strings? .-.
I don't have a tutorial for pin bridges, but I pull the pins out with a plier (and wrap a cloth around the pin so I don't scratch it) then tie 2 or 3 knots at the end of the string, stuff it in there, catching the bottom of the pin on the knot and pushing it all the way down. who broke their D string because they opened their mandolin tuner app instead of their baritone uke app?
Me, I did that.
I play Tenor uke.... your UKE was pretty expensive. I know this. Look into Melanie Doan, from Canada. She uses the same brand. Jim.
You are a little bit mad...... I like it.
I spy a telecasterrr

Is it bad that I tune my baritone to a soprano?
Buy a string winder. Dirt cheap and cuts restringing down a lot.
You lost me at the "Obvii" part
They all turn counter ! Try again
You make me afraid
tbh I have my tuned o g c e a cuz i don’t want to learn the chords like a new instrument
