Heilung means healing in German - this was their first performance recorded at Castlefest in 2017 - they are definitely a vibe - the bones, as well as the horns are real - the ends of his horns are a form of Triskell - the album is about how a village is corrupted by the violence of war. Alfadhirhaiti, Norupo, Anoana, Hamrer Hippyer from Lifa and In Maidjan from Lifa are all good for the rabbit hole spelunker.
@@Larrybird696 your right I looked at it more closely and did a little research - it may be a variation of a thunder cross or kolovrat/swastika - both are thought to enhance ones power - because he's an actual shaman that would make sense
Dude, welcome to the Heilung rabbit hole. Enjoy the journey. You don't need to understand the words because you just feel the meaning of the song in your bones.
The possible origin of this song is taken from the Eggja stone, a stone with runic carvings found in Norway. The gist of the story is a group of men on a ship landed by a village. The ship was broken down, the stone talks about worn oarlocks and a tired mast top (think Viking longship I suppose). The men decided to attack the village instead of asking for some help. The attackers were killed by the villagers. This unsettels the once peaceful village. Further songs in this album/show look at how the shamen and the villagers are trying to heal from this ordeal and return back to the peaceful times
Given the history, I believe the it is the Romans who are the enemies. Heilung comes from the German meaning 'healing' and the villagers are supposed to the Germanic tribes. Most of Heilung's songs from this album are restoration of runes in Proto-Germanic
If you are familiar with Elizabeth from The Charismatic Voice, she did an interview with the lead female vocalist, Maria Franz, a while back. The lyrics come from writings found on items discovered in archaeological digs
@@bjornh4664 Last night I saw teaser Short, and maybe you did as well, withe Elizabeth and Nik Nocturnal getting togethering for a collab on a Nightwish song.
God I love Maria so much. She has this super intimidating and powerful presence on stage but then in the interview she's super happy and friendly lol. She's amazing, incredible voice.
Heilung is so amazing. Listening to their music is like tapping into some primal spirit inside you didn’t know you had. Norupo is another beautiful song , if interested..
It's like a memory that is just out of reach...your cells remember and know the lessons....your brain, however, can't quite make sense of it all and trying to get the two in sync is why they journey is so much fun. The HU and Wauaquikuna are groups I have had similar responses to. All musically impeccable but with a level of 'primal' unity that is almost transcendent when you come across it.
I find this style of music to be very interesting, as to how wide of affects it has on me. If I crank the volume up I feel like I could take over a small country, however if I play it softly so that I have to force myself to pick up the vocals I'm out for the night in about 10 minutes or so. Now grantded i used to use Enigma's 1st album to fall asleep to, specifically if I was having problems falls asleep.
9:58 They're not exactly screaming - this is throat singing. Their music doesn't really fit into any modern genre - they try to recreate music like it was in times past. The members of the band are from Denmark, Norway and Germany btw. The name of the band - Heilung - is the German word for healing. Their music is inspired by old runic inscriptions of the germanic iron age and the Viking age, and they use a variety of languages: German, English, Gothic (not in the modern way of the word goth being used, this means they use the language of the old germanic tribe called the Goths), Old High German, Icelandic, Latin, Old English (which is also known as Old Low German and Old Saxon btw - the language of the Saxons, Proto-Norse, Proto-Germanic, and Viking age Old Norse.
The song essentially tells a story of a peaceful village being beset by a war-like people and learning about war and fighting. They refer to their lives shows as rituals and even have opening and closing prayers. I was able to see them live last September. Awesome time.
Their "Heilung Krigsgaldr [Official Video]" video shows this (quite stylish "come to life rock carvings" that depict this in a still quite explicit manner) - ruclips.net/video/K7ZqZVunCb4/видео.html
@@DaLander That video is so effective and upsetting I usually recommend that people watch the live version while first getting into Heilung. I only watched the official video once because it was so raw and painful. I'm already a pacifist so I'm not exactly the target audience for the message, but yeah. They really, really know what they're doing - and they're one of the only groups I've ever seen who can still move people so profoundly through a youtube video of one of their performances.
Heilung don't generally like recording their live shows because they want people to come and live the experience. it's not just something you show up and watch. it's something you feel. and their new album is pretty fire as well. which is surprising considering how high the bar was with this album. and one of their songs is in the teaser trailer for Hellblade 2 and that trailer with the song gives me goosebumps
Shaman and warrior exchange... the lullaby of obliteration! You only understand the language of the sword! The sun swastika on the shaman's antlers denotes his power. To me, Maria "Hear me now!" is a stoic goddess of peace.
This is amazing. RUclips algorithm did a good. That's rare. I've been following Heilung for a while. They are AMAZING. And this video popped up on my algorithm. Never saw a reaction to Heilung until now. Dude... they're fucking phenomenal!
This was there first concert ever, and I was one of the lucky ones to be there. This is even more intense if you are there...just a great band. Btw nice reaction mate!
In Maidjan is a must - and watch the live version from this show - Lifa. Maria's vocals are insane. I heard that when she did the original recording, her husband (produce/musician) and the lead singer kind of just told her to do whatever she wanted. So, she threw a bunch of vocal tricks and techniques at them thinking they would chop it up and sample it out as needed. It sounded so good, they kept the whole thing exactly as she sang it. BTW - nice catch in the call and response high note
Hey. Here to clarify a thing or two. So the bones that Maria is using are real, and Kai (guy that was “metal screaming”) is using a form of throat singing. He does that through all of the songs in the LIFA performance. Check out the rest of the show, treat yourself. And welcome to the Heilung family.
Not only real bones...HUMAN REAL BONES. A fan donated them, sadly he was terminally ill. Heilung has a special permit to travel with the bones (human and animal). Maybe the speech/growls/chanting doesn't sound human to you because they are doing a vocal technique that is also used in mongolian chanting. Is like having two or three voices but is only one person doing it (I don't know the actual term, English is not my first language). If you listen to The Hu (a mongolian rock band) you can notice what I'm saying. Fun fact: Maria doesn't stop to play the bones in all the song
If memory serves, the LIFA performance tells a story about a peaceful village that essentially gets dragged into a conflict. Krigsgaldr is the village pleading their case to be left alone. The back and forth starting at 6:53 is the village stating all the things they'd prefer to do instead, however the response to each thing is "But you only understand the language of the sword." Going along with this concept, Alfadhirhaiti is the village's call to war, and later songs in the performance are the aftermath of the battle.
At midgardsblot in Norway, they've almost become a houseband, as the location is sited at an actual viking burial ground ! The experience is second to none as it goes from the sweet and innocent, to the unrelenting beat that is similar to dark industrial type of HEAVY and RAVE, albeit in their folkish chimera type of interpretation !! skål from Drammen, Norge
Maria's voice is extremely good. You absolutely have to hear songs like In Maidan, Norupo or most recently Anoana. It is earth, sky, night, day, peace and war. This music experience helps me to deal better with my depression.
this song really has the ability to enhance whatever mindset your in, I can put it on to relax for bed or to get pumped up on my way to play hockey, very few songs have this much versatility when it comes to matching and enhancing your mood
This group took the direction of being storytellers. I believe at this point in the performance (this is a freaking long concert) the Nordic/Old High German people who are living in this time are discussing the virtues of war, of defense vs attack and a cycle of violence and contradiction to peaceful life. The growling voices are the Corruption. Think of is as a dark god, but I think it's just the corruption of the heart by fear and hate. If you listen to all of the songs on the album in a row and read translations, it makes a heck of a lot more sense. I don't think everybody really is going to do that and I have probably devoted way more time to this than I should have. The final song will absolutely blow your sock hat off, man. Hamrer Hipyer. It is the heat of battle. There's more to it that would be spoilers, but this is the like... flowy middle of the concert.
I've watched a bunch of reactions to Heiling and the biggest consistency I see is everyone gets into at least a slight trance at some point when they listen to them.
Heilung is my escape from reality. Like you said, it's like you're in a different place/ out of body experience. Another one I really like from them is Norupo.
If you haven't seen them live, you really need to! It is such an amazing experience to witness their ceremonies. I saw them once at Red Rocks and it was pure magic.
Heilung concerts are more like a spiritual summoning of the ancestors than it is a concert. The woman singing is Maria Franz. You should listen to their song "In Maidjan" (from the same concert) to get a better idea of her incredible vocals. I'd also suggest their song "Anoana", which not only had a beautiful video, but is stunning vocally as well.
Fun trivia fact: One of their songs is used for the trailer for Hellblade 2: Senuas's Sacrifice. Even more, the guy who does the super metal sounding throat singing worked with the woman who voices and motion captures Senua so in the trailer you can hear both his vocals and hers. It's insane and so amazing
There used used to be a meme saying, "When you see it, you'll shit bricks". Whenever I watch a reaction to this song I wait for the "Are those real bones?!?" I'm rarely disapointed.
I love the fact that this is a band that drops a massive honor to their ancient heritage speaking in suuuuper old germanic and then adding the dialogue of the two voices in himself is amazing!!! this seriously looks like a show that is wild but should be looked into with respect regardless of how different it is. Loving it!
If you'll ever have the chance to visit one of their live performances, do it! Their performances are outstanding and they really get the people going! I've already seen them 3 times and it has always been an amazing experience. The way they move the crowd, everybody's chanting, clapping and dancing along ... I even saw some people being in some kind of trance. It's breathtaking.
Watch the second video heilung released on their channel, the Krigsgaldr animation. IDK how only one person watched the animation, while everyone else saw only the reaction.
from flamenco to this. This is just amazing. After watching Vikings and buying my own arm ring. Im filipino though but with a mix of east german/dutch/ashkenazi ancestry and spanish ancestries. Never felt among filipinos though. Always an outcast from the rest of the group. Only when I play basketball when I get to socialize but mostly I go solo. Look the official Video and you understand.
I played this on large screen TV for Japanese Jr. High kids on Halloween. I don't know if it helped their English, but all eyes were glued to the screen, watching and absorbing what Heilung refers to their own shows as "amplified history". The funniest comment I've read under the original RUclips podcast went something along the lines of ... "As and Italian, I'm torn between mesmerized and send in three legions." 😂
I “discovered” them a few months before God Of War (2018) released, and I would listen to this entire concert (on their channel) to hype myself for the game. Also, they’re recording the soundtrack to the video game, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II. It takes place in the Dark Ages/Viking times.
Their music video to this track is animated. And its probably one of the most brutal music videoes out there. It depicts the story, based on real runes. I highly advice it. You will NEVER look at runes the same way after.
I love this version of Krigsgaldr. If you watch the music video for it, it tells the story of a village, raided. Men come on boats, land on their shores. After tragedy, the survivors, ..led by a shaman? fight back, and ultimately drive the invaders back out into the sea. Just warning, if you do watch the video, some of the depictions in it can be triggering for some viewers. There is also the full show, including this performance, that I recommend you check out. Every song, every performance, has this.. amazing energy to it.
THIS is their style :D northern folk ... fun fact : those bones Maria is clacking are human... as well as skin on their drums. this guys are epic. saw them live , it was like music met the theather... mesmerizing...
I'm pretty sure this was their first live performance. The show was about an hour long or so and as far as I can recall was the story of a village which was under threat and had to fight to defend themselves. I think the language is called Protonorse, a very, very old language, and what they are saying is taken from various inscriptions found on ancient stones and jewellery from the period.
It's definately an experience to see them live. Their soundman, Finn Janssen, is a master of subtlety...you nailed it. By the way, those are human bones. She has to have a backup set of animal bones when they go to certain countries. Do yourself a favor and go check out more Heilung!
So glad you're loving Heilung! Definitely something incredibly special about that band - Maria, Kai and Chris are amazing. If you like this one, I suggest to you to listen to 'Asja' (It's a tool for Shamans, at least here in Siberia) and 'Hamrer Hippyer'. I think you'll really enjoy.
Heilung refers to their music as "Amplified History"....Maria Franz performs like a pagan shaman and is magnificent, as are all the members........the language is proto Germanic-Scandinavian......
two norse clans trying to parley before battle. as stated below...you're gonna fall down the rabbit hole. I've been to 3 rituals....SF 1/2020, Red Rocks 10/21 and St. Petersburg FL 1/2024...stage production gets more intense every tour. They sell out at every venue around the world. most songs are sung in ancient languages not used anymore. it's a life changing experience to partake in a live ritual. Maria Franz has probably the most amazing vocal range of any artist in the industry.
Heile is a German-Danish-Norwegian Nordic ritual folk band. According to their own statements, their music is based on original artefacts and traditional texts from the Iron Age and the Viking Age. They describe their music as „amplified history from early medieval northern Europe“
9:42 No EVIL Portrayed Here, He is either a Shaman Preparing Warriors for Battle or He is Representing the Spirits of Nature Used by the Berserkers. Remember, the Bands Name is HEALING , Evil doesn't Heal it Destroys.....
Not sure if anyone has already covered this (too many comments to check, tbh) but the gravelly singing is called 'throat singing', It's evolved in several cultures, probably most recognised are the Tuvan (Mongolian)/Sami (Scandinavia/Lapland) /Inuit (Alaska/Arctic).
Slipped Heilung (and specifically, this song) into a heavy metal show I did years ago--the focus was on European Folk Metal. I don't think the majority of my audience appreciated the show, as Heilung is more of a ritual than a listening experience, IMHO. They tap into the mysticism that has history in our ancestry and for bringing the altered trance state to a young generation, I adore them.
The Dialogue is between Villager and Invader. That's what this song is about . A village which is attacked from the sea. Maria asks when she is singing Who brought the horde to the Northernest lands. The Leader of these villagers is trying to speak sense to the invaders saying we are willing to Co exist here , Just leave me and my beloved ones in peace. But later he realises that the invader only understands the language of the sord. So he decides that then the best they can do for them then is allow the sord to do the talking instead . These invaders could be early Christian's , what many people don't know is that when Christianity was introduced to Scandinavia ''The Northernest Lands'' that in many cases it was convert or die, and many Norse Pagan settlements where wiped of the face of the Earth.
For the most part I agree that the live versions of their songs, especially the ones from this concert, are better. For a first viewing definitely. For this song though there is a version that that has an animation that kinda tells the story of the song, at least in broad terms. It is worth checking out as well. If not on the channel, at least personally.
The vocal style is a nod to Mongolian and other styles of polyphonic throat singing, but I’m sure that’s already been pointed out. I’m driving s I didn’t scroll the comments.

Before people lived and named it
Before the first seed sprouted"
you are rly close if its about the entity.
Yes they are so special and ritual. Meditation on it works also well
Some of the best music ive ever
I love that you love it.
Welcome to the awesome epicness that is Heilung.
My absolute favorite. Please also check out Warduna
The song is a ritual of war, they sing it as both song and spell. In notes tradition of skaldic wizards.
True ritual concert at its finest
The name of the song literally means battle cry/chant and yes, they’re real human bones. Love these guys!
Please, please, please do more Heilung!!!!!! New here and love ya! ❤️🙏👍
The song is from the point of view of a village that is threatened by another village to take them over. 1 wants peace the other only knows war
The song is traducted by war magic (krigsgaldr) and when they speak in english they are adressing the romans as a Germania tribe
They will in in Missouri in November
Yes this is totally what the band is about.
Try a more recent, and extraordinary video, for their song Anoana.
You should watch whole show. Tis is a experience
More Heilung pls!!!!
It's definately an experience to see them live. Their soundman, Finn Janssen, is a master of subtlety...you nailed it. By the way, those are human bones. She has to have a backup set of animal bones when they go to certain countries. Do yourself a favor and go check out more Heilung!
Videos topic aside I love that you have a pianist playing FF7 Tifa song
So glad you're loving Heilung! Definitely something incredibly special about that band - Maria, Kai and Chris are amazing.
If you like this one, I suggest to you to listen to 'Asja' (It's a tool for Shamans, at least here in Siberia) and 'Hamrer Hippyer'. I think you'll really enjoy.
Heilung refers to their music as "Amplified History"....Maria Franz performs like a pagan shaman and is magnificent, as are all the members........the language is proto Germanic-Scandinavian......
That Black Clover shirt is fire!
Takes you back to the 2000's. B.C.
Maria Franz is a force of nature, and Heilung kick out all the nonsense and show how music was, and should be played.
two norse clans trying to parley before battle. as stated below...you're gonna fall down the rabbit hole.
Close your eyes and listen.... Down deep
I am sure you read previous comments. They are singing from their throats. The Mongolian people also use that technique. No screaming lol!
Heile is a German-Danish-Norwegian Nordic ritual folk band. According to their own statements, their music is based on original artefacts and traditional texts from the Iron Age and the Viking Age. They describe their music as „amplified history from early medieval northern Europe“
This is like the Wendo the Vikings fought against in thirteenth warrior
9:42 No EVIL Portrayed Here, He is either a Shaman Preparing Warriors for Battle or He is Representing the Spirits of Nature Used by the Berserkers. Remember, the Bands Name is HEALING , Evil doesn't Heal it Destroys.....
Heilung 💜🖤💜
Not sure if anyone has already covered this (too many comments to check, tbh) but the gravelly singing is called 'throat singing', It's evolved in several cultures, probably most recognised are the Tuvan (Mongolian)/Sami (Scandinavia/Lapland) /Inuit (Alaska/Arctic).
Maria Franz is a GODESS
Talented goddess.
Just close your eyes and take a trip!!
Well Krigsgaldr means War magic or War spell... that monolog was him talking to the enemy before the battle.
This not music but a ritual just embrace it
Heilung is more metal than a lot of big metal bands.
If you watch the whole concert, "lifa" it's a ritual.
The twins are here now
Maria was very good in Hour of the wolf, check that out man
The vocal style is a nod to Mongolian and other styles of polyphonic throat singing, but I’m sure that’s already been pointed out. I’m driving s I didn’t scroll the comments.
