I got a BSA Mercury for my Xmas in 1977 ..........
It was the Meteor, Mercury or Airsporter in those days that most of my shooting pals had.
Great memories. That Evo looks like a very accurate little gun.
I have one of the high power version of one of these....I live in NZ where the power restrictions are much more liberal....It knocks out close to 17ftlbs in my .177 version. Brilliant....definitely a bunny killer at need... :_)
Amazing accuracy, made me rethink spending twice as.much
Still got my BSA Mercury from 1973 my old man bought me , great memories of years past , the kids are these days don't know how well off they are .. HELL we had to use " marksman " pellets out of a little cardboard box .. its all we could afford .. ahhhhhh Richard , great vid
Yep. And simple times... Great times...

Never too come back either , what a total shambles this country has become in EVERY respect .
@@markhomer5704 to true.....
Yes we have all been had a HW 35 in 177 and ran out of pellets as I was not allowed to buy my own pellets I was shooting Milbro Caledonian in 177 and my mum buying the card box of ,22 had a face on for a few days untill I got my pellets and as you say brought lots back for the pot rabbits pigeons partridges and when I was closer to them a cock pheasants great mems
mate i rember buying 100 marksman pellets in a little red box for like 4 old pence here in uk on my way home from school think i was about 13 im 61 now so they have been around a while.
I've still got mine from 1972 ( 71 model ) still in very good condition because I love it.
Looks more accurate than my 95k which has just gone back to the manufacturer
If you check.
the top plastic cap has been on every meteor since the late 1950s if it didn’t have that cap ,
it wouldn’t be a meteor.
I own and shoot all the meteors. The mk7 and evo are very accurate guns. But you’d be surprised how accurate mk2’s and mk3’s are too. We took 6 different meteors to the range earlier this week and I was impressed with all of them. Enjoyed the blog. Cheers
I have a bsa meteor silentium and it is brilliant never let me down solid as rock ideal for a second rifle
Same here mate ive got the Evo Silentium .22 it's a brilliant gun and looks the part aswell.. I'm looking to buy another for my grandson because he loves guns just like me but the whole of the UK have sold out which says everything about the amazing gun 👍
I have the import model and it has a great amount of accuracy with the H&N barracuda .177 10 grain rounds
Well , its certainly an improvement on the original meteor . Excellent review 👍
Thanks very much...
Hi Rich,
Thanks for a great review.
That looks like a great air rifle and if I had the chance to own one of those as a youngster, and I'd have loved to, and you'd have had to peel me off the ceiling! The stock and blueing look fabulous.
Having listened to some of the air rifle tuners on here, its not always at 11.9, a sub 12ftlb air rifle functions at its best. Many say around 10.5 ftlb is good, which is what this BSA Meteor is doing. I'd have loved that air rifle back in the day.
My late father left me a BSA Meteor, which he had serviced himself. As a youngster, I wasn't allowed to do anything like that, have tools or airguns either. In the eighties, I suffered the rule, being seen and not heard...
Just to prove a point, last year I made a project out of that air rifle and its buzz/twang. One thing that also inspired me, was that not many people would do what I was going to do.
I took the rifle apart, which was all nicely lubed from my father. I made a top hat from delrin bar. I sleeved the spring inside the piston and the spring guide, to take out all the play and loosness. I replaced the piston and breech seals, properly lubed with the rellevent greases and re- assembled.
I'm no air rifle tuner. However, the air rifle shot great, and much improved. The buzz/twang had gone, more of a zip noise, and there was less recoil. I was super pleased with, infact and showed to myself, how someone with little knowledge of air rifle tuning, can make a difference. It was so pleasing to realise the improvements in the air rifle. I think at that time, the BSA Meteor's were shooting at around 8ftlb, the Mark5.
Best wishes, Ian.
Sounds like you did a great job Ian.
I have a couple of BSA’s in my cabinet one the Lightening se and the supersport both in 22 and for the money I believe you really can’t go wrong both perform really well and have plenty of stopping power and both have enabled me to bring home a rabbit for the pot. Yes I have more expensive rifles including the Weihrauch hw 100 kt and the new Air Arms s510 tactical but there’s nothing like going back to your roots and taking out a springer and just appreciate just how much fun can be had and how effective they can be.
I had the BSA lightening xl in 22. In hindsight i wished i bought the 177 but still a great rifle. Still as much fun to shoot as like you, my more expensive pcp's.
@@fatbloke2285 We've got a review of the GRT Lightning XL SE in .177 in the pipeline. Watch this space and thanks for watching this video...
Nothing better for reminding you there is a skill in shooting a rifle properly. Thanks for watching.
@@alphamilitaria2756 Will look forward to that. I just know it will be a good one. Cheer's!
Great review. Cheap air rifle from great stable. Might get one for plinking and casual target work with open sights.
I'm sure you won't be disappointed!
Very impressed with the Meteor EV accuracy spot on always had a BSA lightening .22 but you have wetted my appetite for the EVO in .177 nice video Cheers 😊
Its a cracking little break barrel Neil...
Don't give that rifle back Richard! I had a mk 5 with a cheap scop on it and could not find accurately in any other of my springers to match it. Miss that rifle! At a couple of hundred quid it might prove to be hard not to get one. I'm just weak when nostalgia kicks in. Enjoyed the vid mate thank you!
You know what? I didn't. I ended up buying it! Thanks for watching.
@@alphamilitaria2756 ha ha! Your as weak as i am.
Thanks for your review Richard, just been gifted a Meteor Evo in 22 nice gun.
Badass,bsa
My first purchase and it’s only limitation in an urban environment is like all spring guns is noise. A suppressor isn’t going to help that action.
But it is exactly as you describe and very sturdy. Certainly the combination of two necessary things on your review, the accuracy and your marksmanship (one is no good without the other) demonstrates this is a useful tool.
You certainly seemed to be enjoying shooting it and I enjoyed watching. Thank you.
Is this trigger the CAT trigger from gamo??😮 The second stage of the CAT triggers is very very long i think
Great video Rich. Continuing your visit down springer memory lane it seems, don’t know how long ago you recorded this but if the wind was up it was probably recently.
Looks like a great air rifle for the money judging by your reaction at the range but knowing your accuracy I’m not the least bit surprised with the results.
Thanks John. Yes, a great rifle for the money. So good in fact that it's not going back and has been bought!
@@alphamilitaria2756 Congrats Rich! 👏
Nice Rifle👍🏻
Would this also be available in Germany in 7,5Joules?
Great introduction Video.
Good Job Richard👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Hi Frank. Thanks very much. Yes, indeed I believe the Meteor Evo is available for the German market.

nice review! Greetz from the Netherlands!!!
A great review of a very good rifle, far better looking then that plastic lump on the end of the barrel.this looks like I remember as it was and they have done a good job, had a go with one and there is very little different between it and the supersport but the price, the pellets were letting it down they should all go through the bull 🐂 but it can be you but not that many pellets it's the pellets try a few brands. And was fairly quiet to there worth every penny even my self a HW fan could see me with one out in the fields good one
Very nice review and rifle, thanks for sharing.
Thanks very much.
I am a pcp guy , however i want a half decent break barrel for a bit of back gardern plinking that does not break the bank and i do like BSA love my scorpion pcp. So this may well just be the ticket , hoping to get a HW97 next month to.
WE NEED AN ULTIMATE COMPARISON TEST FOR BEST BREAK BARREL OR UNDERLEVER ACCURACY AT 75 YARDS!
Hello from Portugal just odered one in .22 and here are allowed 24 joules which should be good, I wanted a Meteor super with gas ram but not avai, able here .Thank you for your informative video which convinced me into making my decision .My first air rifle was a Meteor in .177 and that was excellent so I feel happy with my choice.
Have fun Julien and thanks for watching.
Hello, have fired a hundred shots but it's a bit twangy .I would like to know if this will disappear after bedding in,or should I install a gas ram?
Hi Richard. Can I suggest you try a Remington Express? Same price as the Evo, but, it has a Metal trigger (adjustable and resettable) Safety on top in the right place, good open sights, it's very accurate, and they sell by the bucketload ! Well respected budget guns and well worth a look mate. ATB MMMD
Funny you should say that. Watch this space...!
i currently have a meteor. ive been looking at get an express. Are they better than the meteor?
That trigger looks like the one on my kral devil in fact my gamo coyte has a simar one.
Great Review Richard, I had a super Meteor yrs ago , but can’t remember what the difference was between the standard and super ? Cheers shane
Cheers Shane. To be honest, I'm not sure either. Perhaps some embellishments on the stock? Just watched your HW57 vids - great job. Rich.
@@alphamilitaria2756 thanks Richard , watched your vids all night , awaiting a Remington express to be delivered any time soon , was impressed by the one you showed it shot good for a budget rifle ,, let’s hope mine is somewhat similar , cheers shane
Hi could you please help me in telling me what are the telescopic sights you are using on the evo please they are just what I am looking for thanks..
Hi. They are Sportsmatch mounts - mediums I believe. If you're looking to for a scope to a BSA, check these out: www.sportsmatch-uk.com/13mm-dovetail-range-for-13mm-dovetails-e-g-most-modern-bsa-air-rifles-and-early-weihrauch-hw35-includes-easyfit-arrestor-pin
Super review thanks - could I ask what scope you have mounted at the range? Apologies if you’ve answered this already
Thanks very much Mike. The scope is an MTC King Cobra 6-24x50 FFP. It's been replaced with an update model now, still called the King Cobra but available in FFP and 2FP. We have them in our shop if you're interested. Thanks again.
Do you think the one is better than a express 🤔?
Same as gamo hunter 440. Just the stock is diferent
You could say that of literally dozens of rifles.
@@alphamilitaria2756 so true in gamo company. Same gun and some minor changes and new name that's it
Very nice 😉👍.
Great review, which of the two would you recommend out of this and the Remington Express?
Hi - that's a difficult one as both are very good rifles. The BSA is lighter and more elegant, but the Remington is excellent value for money. If it was me, I'd probably go for the Meteor, but if I turned up at the shop and they had run out of stock and only had Remington Expresses in stock I wouldn't be upset...Sorry I can't be of more help.
Ive just been given a mark 6 meteor ...cant find anything about them .its got a safety on the trigger .???.
Lucky you!

hello, you make very good and interesting shots, thanks to you I am going to buy this rifle to start practicing shooting, I had a question, except for the wooden stock, is it the same as the comet evo?
congratulations for videos
Hi. Welcome to the sport! I'm not familiar with the Comet Evo, but yes, I'd expect they are very similar...
@@alphamilitaria2756 thanks again
I was looking at getting one of these to replace my 1970 Mk111, you have me decided. I was going to use open sight? you used a scope? Is there any advice on this and what to match it with? Do I ned a scope, (never used one)?
Hi Jeff. No, you don;t have to have a scope and the open sights are very good. If you do decide on a scope though my advice would be to get one with variable parallax (usually designated with 'AO' or 'SF' on the scope) as this will allow you to focus on targets more easily. Good luck.
Jadi pingin beli
What do you make of the Meteor Super? I tend to find plastic parts are a bit of a turn off but personally I do like the look of the Super and apparently it's actually being made in Birmingham. I'm looking forward to getting my hands on one in .22. I wonder if the gas ram version will be available in the UK, I'd like to give it a try.
Hi. I think that when it comes to break barrel springers, Weihrauch has the market pretty much sewn up. Underlevers too apart from the two Air Arms rifles. BSA break barrels are great value for money and they look fabulous, but they are priced much less than most Weihrauchs and I'd have to say they perform at a lower level too. That's not to say BSA springers aren't good, just that they aren't as good (or expensive) as Weihrauchs.
@@alphamilitaria2756 I'm a big fan of HW springers and I agree, as far as break barrels go Weihrauch seem to be in a league of their own. I like to buy British too, have fond memories of learning to shoot with an Airsporter and will be happy to buy a quality springer made in the UK. I do wish the 'iron' sights on the Super were made of metal not plastic, a plus for me is the manual safety which I prefer over the auto setting type.
WE NEED 50 AND 75 & 100 YARDS ACCURACY TESTING 😁
Hi Richard
I know you did this review a while ago, but I wondered how you were getting on with it as I know you said you ended up buying it. Looking for a simple break barrel rifle to get back into the hobby after a 35 year hiatus and considering this and the Gamo Whisper Sting. They look very similar to be honest but wondering if one would be better for my teenage boys to use as well. Cheers. Michael
Hi Michael. Yes, the Meteor Evo is still going well. I did have to invest in an arrester block because I found the scope was creeping back under recoil and pushing up the plastic block cap. Not a biggie though and with the arrester block in place all sorted. If anything its more accurate and consistent now its had a few pellets through it. The Meteor Evo is probably the better rifle in my opinion, but a lot of that is down to the way it looks (that stock!). The Whisper Sting is a good rifle too and probably more resilient in the hands of teenagers!
@@alphamilitaria2756 Thanks for coming back to me Richard, it's much appreciated and this is exactly the kind of real world experience I was looking for. Good to hear it's working out well for you. Very good point on the stocks. It might come down to which one I can get hold of as well. Would you say there was much difference in the cocking effort between the 2 as well? Thanks again!
@@michaelcampbell1619 Hi Michael. No, not much difference between the two in terms of cocking effort. I'm sure your boys will love whichever rifle you get. If you're ever near Reading come and see us at Reading Air Target Shooting Club.
@@alphamilitaria2756 Thanks Richard. Again, I appreciate the advice and keep up the brilliant work on the channel and if I'm ever down your way I'll certainly pop into the club.
How much will it cost me with a scope for the BSA meteor evo
Hi Phil. The rifle will cost you £175 and the scope depends on the model you want. You can get a decent scope for around £120, maybe a little less. Please let us know if that's of any interest.
I seem to be hearing the words "plastic trigger" in so many reviews throughout You Tube much to my horror but I'm an old Boomer, so it's got me wondering are many air rifles/pistols still made in the UK that that aren't high end PCP that won't cost me my last kidney 😎
Was it .22 or .177.Thank You.
Hi William. 09:11 - .177. Thanks for watching.
Gammo trigger , they are the worst and you cant really adjust the trigger much , but a rc car bearing can improve it alot
