    Thanks Marcus. Good to see that disabling Eco Assist keeps that setting until it's enabled again. That means that the driver can themselves be in control of what happens when approaching a roundabout, junction, or change in speed limit rather than the car. Which is important to me - and quite a lot of other potential buyers.
    It was hard to see from the video but I presume that when you pressed the brake pedal after testing the coasting as far as possible then that brake action used regen and not the friction brakes. I couldn't see from the dash display whether the green was showing when braking to signal regen operating. I would be surprised if it didn't regen.
    Another thing is that in my old Leaf the modes D and B operated much like the ID.3 without Eco Assist engaged. It was easy when approaching any obstacle ahead to slip into B to use regen to slow down,. That gave the same effect but with the driver being in control rather than the car.
    But it's good to see that all options are available and I can now put the car back on my list of possibles for the next change. Thanks again for taking the trouble to demonstrate that to me. The local dealer was typically clueless about this entire subject.

    • @marcusevjourney566
      @marcusevjourney566  3 года назад +1

      Yes, when you press the brake pedal it uses regen. You must press the pedal extremely hard for it to use the friction brakes, as in emergency stopping.
      There are some rare circumstances where regen may not work according to the manual for example when the battery is fully charged or when the road surface is bad.
      You should put the ID.3 near the top of your list, the car is fantastic and RWD is a pleasure.

    • @Hitstirrer
      @Hitstirrer 3 года назад +1

      @@marcusevjourney566 - Thanks. That's fine then because I can brake when I want and achieve the same result as the Eco Assist. In my old Leaf 24, I used to switch to B to slow down in approach situations. In an ID.3 that can be used too. In the ioniq I can use the flappy paddles.

    Hi Marcus, I very much enjoyed your video of the day you received your id3. I watched more of your content since then and I’m delighted that your enjoying your VW Id3 so much. I then arranged back to back test drives of the Tesla Model 3 LR and a VW Id3 First Edition UK and was very surprised by my post drive impressions and thoughts. I have driven EV’s since 2013 and have had all configurations of Nissan Leaf, followed by a Hyundai Kona 64 and currently drive a Kia E-Niro 64kw first edition. The Tesla is undoubtedly at the cutting edge of what’s available, performance, range, GUI and infotainment, sentry mode over the air updates etc are all class leading. But I found the firm ride quite unsettling on the mostly rural roads compared to my Eniro and the VW. By contrast, the VW, driven over the same roads was a much more comfortable, relaxed and quieter experience. The VW was a very relaxed and comfortable place to be. The drive very intuitive and performance more than adequate. It’s very clear than the infotainment system is a work in progress with some features either omitted or not working at all, I found the mapping very basic and used waze through my phone out of pure frustration. Although the boot spaces are similar in size, I feel that the hatch back would be far more practical than the saloon as a family work horse vehicle. Kids bikes, kit and caboodle are much easier to load in the VW’s hatchback for sure. One thing I found odd was vw’s lack of lumbar support adjustment, on a £38k car a strange coat cutting measure?
    VW have now a modern roomy car that can go over 200 miles per charge. It’s easy to drive, relaxing, comfortable and just does the job. It should be well built with good dealer back up, although the MEB platform is as yet unproven and the user interface/ infotainment is clearly still unfinished. That said, it’s a different car altogether than the Model 3, with the vehicle buying trends favouring hatchbacks and cross over vehicles it will be very interesting to see the sales figures across Europe when Tesla starts selling German built Model Y’s built in Berlin. Tesla won’t need to pay import tariffs or high transport costs and with all the innovations announced on battery day and potential improvements brought by a German work force I think the future will be interesting in the EV world. I fully expect VAG to sell lots of their new EV’s, let’s hope all manufacturers can transition to EV cars, it can only benefit us all in terms of reduced pollution and improved air quality.

      Thank you for the excellent post, so it is just not the 1st base without lumber support it is also the 1st plus 🤔. There are some cost cutting things on my car that I am not happy about and I will do a video about it, it is a shame that VW has made some decisions particularly as you said my car was just under 40k €. I hope that Tesla with Berlin and the new battery announcements do bring out an improved M3 and M Y that is a big leap forward in technology and cost.

      @@marcusevjourney566 I really think that the M3 and ID3 are after two completely markets. Lots of UK folk think the ID3 is far too expensive for what it is. I’d have been happier with it if it had a lumbar adjustment, although the sales man said the top spec version has 12 was adjustable electric massaging seats!? I was honestly shocked at how quiet, relaxed and easy to drive the ID was. I would like the 77kw version with 5 seats, but the sales guy said it only has 4 seats due to weight constrictions. Never the less the id3 isn’t just a good EV it’s a good car. Roll on the I’d 4 and Tesla Model Y. Wishing you health to enjoy your new whip!

    id.3 in Norway were prebuild cars from last 10 months ... and they will go back in Norway.
    Production volume is sold out and is lower than the last month deliveries of VW in Norway.
    etron is a different story driven by low lease rates.
    Tesla is not over peek in europe cause the model y will come from Berlin soon in high volumes. Buying an american model 3 or getting a model y made in Germany with a german paintshop make buyers hesitate ... where leasers has to continue getting a car while owners drive the old one 1 year longer.
    Tesla is by far the biggest challengers - even though we sold our model due to missing reliability and 200 km to tesla service center. The purchase experience is a nightmare with both vw and tesla. Dealers are dying until most small are dead or bought by VW.
    There is a lot more going in the background like end of dealer rebates and battles by the dealer as agency.
    Purchased 3 cars from VW last 9 months and all ev and alla nightmare. Last week got a confirmation but price is now 128€ more expensive even though contract is just 2 months old ... and dealer can't really explain that again as in the last case, an e-golf in june.

    Hi. I see a potentially expensive brake service and a bit shorter tire life due to your aversion of the regeneration feature on the ID3. It’s your car so drive it as you prefer. I know of an Audi driver that years ago preferred spirited driving and at about 20,000 miles needed brake pads and rotors and new tires. I believe the brake bill was close to $800 USD, do not recall the tire cost. Enjoy.

    • @marcusevjourney566
      @marcusevjourney566  3 года назад

      In the ID.3 when you press the brake it uses regeneration. You have to press it very hard for it to use the brake pads. I guess there will be no extra wear on the brake pads with B mode vs D mode. In my ICE car I did not need to change the brake pads after 120,000 kms, so I guess I am a careful driver. I was just having a bit of fun here, but driving with in speed limits and carefully. I am slightly more worried about tire wear on the ID.3 just because the car is so heavy and has quick acceleration, I will have to wait and see. However whenever I look at Tesla tires they often seem worn/bald 🤣

    Tesla has sold very well in the past but that was due to lack of competition and high incentives. But it is an American car and American cars have never sold well in Europe, an American brand (like Ford) can sell well but only with models aimed at the European market, not with US models. I totally agree Volkswagen will be #1 in Europe with EV, great product line and brand loyal customers.

This is the first batch of ID.3 that are hitting the road and people have ordered them months ago and have been waiting for the oder books to open for even longer. It will be much more interesting to see how sales develops once this "pre-booker" queue is empty. Germany they are doing very well even though Germany is Anti-Tesla and they have the ZOE for almost free. Once the Model Y is out the e-tron will be dead and now with improved upgrades from Model 3 and lower price than ID3 I think Norway will pick up again. The problem in Norway is the lack of heat pump and the service centers. Once more people start moving around they will notice that the charging network in Norway is lacking for non tesla cars.
