Thank you for your video. We raise our own meat and veggies. Out of 2-5lb Cornish crosses, 7 c of carrots, 2-15 oz cans of corn, 5 med onions,1 bunch of celery I was able to create 25 pts of soup starter and bone broth from my fresh chickens.

Came across this video today. I've been watching you for almost 2 years. I think I may attempt this one this fall. I am a big soup eater, year round. It's my go-to when I'm just not filling "it". I've started putting more and more complete meals up. This is my third year canning, and I'm self-taught.

Appreciate the emphasis on a basic recipe that can be used in several different ways. Over the years, I've found that I prefer to either can individual items separately or, as you did, work with basic concepts. Planning to adapt your recipe to use with a chicken soup that I make using "McLib's Country Dumplings". (Modified from their recipe!) Since I keep a goodly supply of these noodles, canning up chicken base, as you did, will make for some quick & easy meals. Also like the ability to can both pints and quarts. Usually, the only time I make this is when I'm taking it to a church potluck or family is coming for a visit. (I can't make a small pot of soup...... )
    Thanks for sharing. God Bless.

I bought my first All American canner in 1974, and it was stolen in the 90's. I finally bought another All American in 2010. I have used other canners but did not like them. I love my All American and wanted to buy a second one but with the shortage of canning lids I have decided to wait and see if the supply of lids rebounds. So I find I'm doing a lot more dehydrating now instead of canning. I normally can my chicken and broth separate from my vegies but I like your idea of putting them together. Will be harvesting some of my chickens the end of this month so I will be trying this.

I started using almost all TATTLER’s this year. I found the learning curve more difficult than I had imagined. The only time I ever had a TATTLER lid dome up was when I had tightened the ring too tight so that the air could not properly evacuate during the canning process. ❤️🙏❤️. The soup looks super yummy. One thing I've learned when using Tattler lids, is that when they come out of the canner, I always tighten them down. then don't touch them at all for 24 hrs. . once that's done, I can remove the rings, and it's very rarely I get a lid that doesn't seal. . I learned the hard way that it works! . . lol. . Congrats on your new stuff to try! One day, I'm going to invest in an All American canner. . the REALLY tall one so I can double stack quarts. . lol. .

In retrospect... this video was quasi pre-Covid. Your instincts were spot on. I like how you layered the ingredients and cooking methods. I would imagine... if you cooked/drained/dehydrated rice or pasta and dry sealed those.... they would be perfect to rehydrate into one of those in about 8 minutes. I make and use my own "minute rice" ...such a time saver. probably one of my most used prepped foods.

Just made up sixteen pints for us and am so thrilled. I use thighs because right now they're .99 a pound. I have yet to convince my husband to cull chickens. So it's layers for now. I pour off the juices from cooking them into a pot and add the onion and herbs de Provence and lots of salt. The broth was so good. I filled all the jars and had one pint of schmaltz and half gallon of broth left for the next round of just chicken in pints with broth. Then starting bone broth from all the bone, when all is done I should have ten pints of chicken and four gallons of broth, I'm tired just thinking about having to do it. Trying to can everyday and get more things done this month before the harvest really comes in.

I'm curious if you followed these guidelines for using tattler lids... "There are a couple additional steps to ensuring a good seal. When you apply the lids and screw on the bands, you MUST then unscrew the band a quarter turn. This ensures that there’s enough space for the hot air to escape from the jar during processing. Then, when the jars have finished processing and you’ve removed them to the counter, quickly give all the bands a good, quick tighten. This brings the rubber seal into firm contact with the rim of the jar and allows the air tight seal to form."

Did you mean that the liquid in the jars was bubbling, or that the lids had domed? Domed Tattlers are bad. It means the rings were screwed on too tight, not allowing air to escape the jars during processing.

I love my all American! Can’t wait to hear how the lids did. I have some but haven’t tried them yet.

I need to can chicken soup again soon, almost out. I add my peas after I open it, though, I like them bright green and fresher. You did great with the 2 new things! I’ve used Tattler lids before, but wasn’t much of a fan. Maybe I should get them out and try again. Seems like I lost a few seals, been a long time ago. They might be a better option for pressure canning than water bath.

Yes, I've received a couple comments saying they work best with pressure canning
