- I recently shared in a video • MY Pantry vs. Grocery ... all of my favorite things to can with tomatoes. In that video, I told you one of them was tomato soup - and that you should go watch my video on it. Well, it turns out I never filmed a video on it. So today I'm making up for it - we're going to do another round because I love it so much ♥ This is a pressure canning video, and the jars I'm using are from Le Parfait. Here's some links to them:

When you decide to write a canning cookbook I’d like to preorder 7 please! We are a family of canners & gardeners ~ have been for generations. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, your channel is my all time favorite. Excellent and applicable content❤️
That tomato soup looks absolutely delicious! I made tomato soup for the first time this year with fresh roasted tomatoes and roasted garlic! I used a recipe from Freedom Homestead that she posted that was an Amish recipe and then I also used part of Linda‘s pantry‘s recipe of roasting the tomatoes and garlic and then added a few of my own seasonings and fresh basil from my garden and it turned out absolutely delicious! I have to write it down so I don’t forget next year! So much better than store bought!
Another great video- I just put all my roasted vegetables in my blender skins, seeds disappear saves time and adds flavor. I then add chopped vegetables and cook in roaster then pressure can. It tastes great over pork and beef roast’s cooked in a crock pot. Blessings everyone- happy preserving 😁
looks yummy. my mother used to make us tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches. the ultimate comfort food. . ❤️
I do a Roated Tomato Basil Soup that is SO Delicious! I've canned 3 dozen jars so far. One more batch to go and that will cover us until next summer. It's SO good!
Care to share your recipe?
@@billierichter1379 would love the recipe too please.
Share details :) 🙏🏼
Yes! Please share!
That sounds yummy, would love that recipe?
Turkey baster is really handy when you have all that juice and your overflowing. Thanks for sharing looks yummy
Oh! Now I want tomato soup and grilled cheese! What a great video, thanks Rachel!
We started making marinara this year, and one thing I've learned is that a bit of ground fennel seed actually makes the tomatoes taste sweeter. I'm going to try it with our tomato soup to see if we can skip the sugar.
Rachel, I am so thankful for modeling the grace you give yourself while being a good steward of your harvest blessings! Your tips and shortcuts help inspire and ‘give permission’ to find the fastest, easiest way to move through home preserving! I so appreciate showing how to do things in stages such as freezing whole tomatoes and later roasting them as is for an easy first step in making your harvest tomato soup!
I cook my stuffed cabbage in tomato soup and it comes out so good!
Tomato soup cake is FANTASTIC! It has raisin, ground cloves, and cinnamon. It's moist and delicious with chocolate frosting!
Rachel tomato soup and grilled cheese has always been my favorite even as a adult and yes I buy hamburgers at a steak house but I eat like a kid and no one says you have to eat certain things as a adult and my grandson loves it, yummy 😂😊
Red sweet peppers could also be a wonderful addition. It looks divine! Soup (of all kinds) is my absolute favorite food, all year long.
Same! I was just telling my Mom today that I could eat soup every single day. I'm planning on focusing my canning efforts on soups!
I did tomato soup for the first time this year. I tried 4 recipes but I like the one from Allrecipes the best. Only 4 ingredients (tomatoes, onion, whole cloves and chicken broth). Boil all together for 20-30 minutes and then use immersion blender to blend. After that I put the soup through a sieve. Add salt and sugar and done. It is so tasty. And so easy.
I roast everything. Just made roasted pepper hot sauce. Roasted root veggies, roasted tomatoes anyway, it’s just so easy and not as messy as the stove top.
I gave this video a thumbs up before I even watched it, because I know I will love it!😁
Yay! Thank you! ♥
I loved the texture of the soup you ended up with! I want to try that!
I always enjoy watching your videos. You are down to earth and real. Appreciate the idea on the tomato soup and adding the sweet potato. I so want to try this.
Rachel, you are such a sweet soul! I love listening to you as you work in your garden and as you can. We love tomato soup here, so I must try this tomato soup you canned today for my family.
Yum yum!! What a great idea to add sweet potatoes. Definitely gonna do that. Excellent video once again Rachel. Thanks for sharing 💖
You are my favorite. I love watching your cooking, canning, gardening and recipes.
I love that you keep it real! I am looking forward to next springs tomato harvest so I can make this. Thank you and Many Blessings!!
I just love tomato soup. You have inspired me to try some with Roasted vegetables. The texture looks so amazing. Thanks for sharing.
Your tomato soup always looks beautiful. I’ve had a rough day, watching you calmed my heart. Thank you!
I love that you just throw stuff together. I do that a lot when I cook. My son said nothing is ever the same because I don't go strictly by a recipe. I love it. A great surprise every single time. I'm going to try this tomato soup. I hate wasting veggies no matter what size.
I just love watching you can!!! I’m going to do this one!
Rachel,
I have tons of tomatoes from the garden and I made the roasted tomato soup today with the sweet potatoes. It was absolutely delicious. As a child, I HATED tomato soup because my only experience with it was with the Campbell’s Tomato soup. I couldn’t even stand the smell of it and have never tried tomato soup in 60 years until today. I figured if I didn’t like it, I’d just toss it. What an amazing surprise. Thank you for blessing us with your creative culinary wisdom. I can’t wait for your cookbook to come out. ❤
I love it when people taste the food they prepare. So much gets said . Love your recipe and must apologize I forgot the basil too, lol.
Definitely making this! I take care of my grandsons and my 6 year old grandson could eat tomato soup and grilled cheese daily. I was going to make your spaghetti sauce but will now only do this recipe. Thank you for sharing this with us!!
I never knew you could freeze tomatoes whole like that. I love that! I have a hotel pan that I use for roasting my turkey and water baths... I think that might help with the overflow of juices. :) love all the tips and info in a very calming and real tone. Thank you!
I am trying this one! Thank you.
Love those jars. I didn't know you can actually preserve in them.
Tomato soup looks so yummy.
Looks delicious!
Yes!! Need to try this! Looks amazing! Tomato soup is my favorite!! ❤
Looks delicious as always, Rachel! I’ll be getting a box of tomato seconds this weekend and this is exactly how I’ll use them!
Roasting for any tomato canning is a must to take flavor to the next level. Don't tend to bitter too.
Tomato soup = comfort.
Thanks for sharing
I did can some tomato soup last year, and it was uninspiring, and I had no plans to do the soup again. But I think it is genius adding the sweet potato and now I have to try at least 7 quarts. Thanks for the inspiration, Rachel!!!! 1870's Homestead...still my happy place. :)
Looks delicious! I made roasted tomato basil soup Sunday. Soooo good
Love this video! I’m going to try it! Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
This looks amazing. I hope you share the recipe. I think I want some more soups on my shelf.
I just made a trip to the Amish farm(they sell plants, fresh produce plus bulk dry goods-Heavenly!) I have baby potatoes, honey butternut, regular butternut squash, & zucchini (to sneak into my last bag of frozen tomatoes for soup). So excited! Been canning since ‘94 but my mom got me a digital pressure/water bath canner after Christmas & I’m finally able to pressure can in a pot a I can manage by myself! Can’t lift the heavy pots full of anymore & I absolutely love this canner.
Great recipe Rachel! I just roasted tomatoes with salsify ( no celery this year) onions, carrots , garlic and now I will make it into soup instead of sauce, with a little chicken stock.
I'm excited to try this recipe! How awesome!
Oh Rachel that soup looks so amazing I can almost smell it through the video!!!!!
I can't wait to make this! I have many tomatoes in the freezer that I need to get out. I need to go get some fresh celery because all I have is what I've also got in the freezer, unless you think that will work okay as well. I didn't have as big a harvest with my sweet potatoes this year, but I can't them up this past weekend...so I will have to use carrots in mine.
Oh my word that looks delicious!
That looks so good!!! Youve inspired me to put some on our shelves!!! Thank you!!
Yummy, I love tomatoe soup. Yours looks to die for!!!! Thank you for sharing.
Girl that soup looks so good!and those jars are so beautiful and I wish I had them along with that soup on my shelves. Bravo👏
Definitely going to try that recipe.
I added a new thing to my preserving this year, cream of mushroom soup with lots of cream in. It canned so nicely and I'm thrilled to not be buying that in future.
Sounds like a yummy tomato soup!!
I cannot wait to make this! Thanks for sharing.
My mouth is watering .....lookes delicious 😋
Love the idea of roasting the vegetables.
I love the texture of your soup and how you throw everything in but the kitchen sink. I made roasted tomato soup and blended my skins not the cores with my vegies. I love the idea of adding sweet potatoes. I have those little potatoes so now I might need to make more. I roast my vegies with a couple teaspoons of brown sugar
That thick soup I beautiful!
I just picked a bunch of tomatoes and covered the rest. Frost possible tonight, but near 70s for a stretch after. Hoping all those green tomatoes have time yet! ❤🙏❤
Thanks for making this video when your so busy with your harvest!
I will definitely try this! I've been thinking to can tomato soup next! Thanks again for a great video
Feeling inspired to give this a try, thank you!
Not going to lie, when the guys were making their way over thay gate in the back as you were showing your method about the tomato cores, I didn't realize it was a gate and was wondering what jig they were doing 🤣
Lol
I thought they were dancing too for a second!
I love roasted tomato soup! Yours is thick because of the sweet potatoes but I bet it tastes great. I will also throw some sweet red peppers on the roasting pan with the tomatoes. This soup with a grilled gruyere and onion jam sandwich...oh my!
I roasted some of my fresh picked butternut squash and added to my tomato soup. I freeze a good portion of my tomatoes too..... so versatile.
Love tomato soup and this looks like a delicious one. Thanks!
That looks and sounds amazing. I love tomato soup with grilled sandwiches.
Why does everyone remove the cores? Are they bitter?? I havent ever done that and i have been wondering lately whether perhaps I 'should'. You really look so energised Rachel - its been a tough year for you with everything you have had going on. You must sooooo be looking forward to a little more down time over fall and winter. If you are looking for things to share with us during the cold months, I would love to see more of your home remedies that you make for gifts etc. I did your foot bath/scrub one two years ago and gave them as gifts to family and friends and they were a big hit :) xxx
The cores of the tomatoes? I suppose it's because they're tough and they don't get soft when cooking.
I don’t remove the cores either
Great job, The soup sounds amazing.
Sounds amazing, I really want to make this.
Todd must have a good palate. It definitely helps fine tune your recipes. Thanks for the inspiration!
Yummy! That looks really good!
This is just what I've been looking for! I have loads of tomatoes in the freezer and wanted to make soup..Ty
Looks amazing!! Yum ❤
Sounds yummy Rachel.
Thank you! Last tomato canning tomorrow with salsa. Hope Todd's back is better. God Bless and stay safe.
He's still not doing too well, hopefully soon.

The tomato soup looks delicious 😋. I would like to add that to my pantry shelves next year. I canned lots of tomatoes this year but I never thought about tomato soup. 😊
Your tomato soup looks delicious. I'll have to make some.
So excited to try this. I love sweet potatoes in everything lol. I love your videos!!!!!
Guess who's getting a pressure canner tomorrow!! You've really inspired me!
Made my soup today it used the final tomatoes
8 quarts is all I got next year I will make more it’s so good!!!
I had no idea you can use those kind of jars for canning. Wish I was there to smell it and taste test. Looks so good!
Thank you!
I wanted to rematch this video cause I am making this today. Excited to taste it. Thanks Rachel 🇨🇦🌷
Love roasting tomatoes! Just can’t beat the flavor. Have a tip for you so you keep all that valuable juice in the pan and not risk burning yourself or the bottom of the oven. Get a couple of steam table pans that are shallow. They are wonderful at about 2” deep.👍
Thank you!!
Love tomato soup!
I am still new to canning, but that is not going to stop me from canning your recipe for Tomato Soup.
i grew so many butternut squash so that is my orange i am going to add when I try this recipe
i bet that will be amazing ♥
OMG My Mouth is WATERING…..I want some so Badly…..What a AMAZING Cook U are that Husband is 1 Lucky Man…..
I am a recent follower so I have lots of unwatched videos! Watching your RUclips Chanel on my tv is sooo much better than whatever daytime tv shows they have these days. I love your Chanel!
An idea for you Rachel that i think you'd love, with all your mexican cooking. A restaurant near me made a soup called "Life is oh so good soup" In brackets on the menu it said roasted red pepper and tomato soup w/chicken. I experimented making it because YES life was so good eating this soup! lol i just made a roasted red pepper and roasted tomato soup and added the usual type mexican spices. Cumin, chili powder etc. The chicken was shredded into it. I never tried canning it just made fresh but with your wisdom and know how, i'm sure you'd do a splendid take on it. Cheers and hope you try it :)
