I got started when my wife bought a 96pc starter kit from Tandy for Christmas. It had a decent amount of tools to get started and definitely got the bug going. Now 4 years and about $16K later and I'm still looking for new tools and ideas. I heard a saying a few years ago, that if you want to make a million dollars doing leather crafting, the first thing you need to do is spend a million dollars. I'm on my way lol. Thanks for these videos and sharing your knowledge.

Hello Don I've been making. Saddles for 20 years and I have 5 different sewing machines but if I may make a suggestion for beginners I just kid of went out on a limb and bought an 89 dollar Chinese show patch machine hand crank and it uses needles from 15 to 23 and will handle 69 to 277 thread and will sew everything from fabric to 1/2 inch layers of skirting leather very very good great for beginners who don't like to hand sew just a suggestion. I'm from Oklahoma but used to work in Alvarado Tx at McDaniel saddlery . I absolutely love your videos and watch them over and over every day I learn a ton from you . Thank you for all you do for this industry.

Good video and good timing! Just today, a friend called, asking what he needed to get for a first project. Gonna refer him to this video.

On the punches mine are in inches. Is there a conversion for numbers to inches?

You can use denim if you don't have canvas.

Hey, Don I have question??? Something I was thinking about-- when and if you use a groover, then maybe a bevler, for stitching run, will the beveled grooved line break down on surface, down the road?? I know it's gotta make leather little weaker in the area... thanks..

Hey I was curious what pencil you like to sketch tooling patterns on leather, the ole #2 isn't working good for me, I think it's too hard

I think he mentioned in another video that he uses an 8B graphite art pencil.

It is not necessarily profitable for manufacturing a left-handed tool because only about 20% of the world population is left-handed. But that's for the manufacturer to determine.
