  • I have gone through all the leather craft tools on my workbench and in my shop to come up with what I think is a solid core leather craft tool box. This is not the end all be all or the perfect assortment of tools, but I do think it is a great place to start if you are wanting to begin working with leather.
You can always add more tools to this starting point in order to make different tasks easier or more efficient. As with all craftsmen, we can never have enough tools.
Below is a link to a blog article that we created on our website that categorizes all of the tools in the video. I have also provided links to suppliers that sell these tools or some that are similar so that you can put your tool kit together.

We hope you find this video helpful! You can also find a ton of information and resources for all things leather craft while you are on our website at dgsaddlery.com/

I got started when my wife bought a 96pc starter kit from Tandy for Christmas. It had a decent amount of tools to get started and definitely got the bug going. Now 4 years and about $16K later and I'm still looking for new tools and ideas. I heard a saying a few years ago, that if you want to make a million dollars doing leather crafting, the first thing you need to do is spend a million dollars. I'm on my way lol. Thanks for these videos and sharing your knowledge.

Good video and good timing! Just today, a friend called, asking what he needed to get for a first project. Gonna refer him to this video.

Great video. I'm definitely going to make a "go" back with these. Don, you made me nervous, flipping that knife around.

On the punches mine are in inches. Is there a conversion for numbers to inches?

You can use denim if you don't have canvas.

Hey I was curious what pencil you like to sketch tooling patterns on leather, the ole #2 isn't working good for me, I think it's too hard

It is not necessarily profitable for manufacturing a left-handed tool because only about 20% of the world population is left-handed. But that's for the manufacturer to determine.
