This is the first video I have seen that was 99% direct content teaching on leather stamping!!! A clear and concise explanation and a demonstration that helps us visual learners. Hooray and bravo 😃😃
Don, you are a blessing to all of us wannabe's. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge.
I'm just about to begin doing this as a retirement hobby. I think I've gained more knowledge with two of your videos (so far) than a stack of books I purchased. You're very generous sharing your knowledge. I feel like I should be paying tuition.

Three years ago, I was making a rifle sling and this video really helped me out! Now I'm basket stamping a belt, so I'm back for a refresher course. Thanks again!
I am new to leather work. Your Tutorials are so easy to follow, I get the impression even I could do it.
Sub and like!
I couldn't agree more with kurzhaaguy. Starting out, I get so much more information with your videos than the six books I own - which are gathering dust thanks to you.
Another great tutorial Don! Thank you for taking the time to film, edit, post these. It is a chunk of your day that benefits others and it is much appreciated!
Awesome, thanks for your expert instruction and craftsmanship!
Best explanation of basket stamp I have seen, I have struggled with this stamp for yrs, this should help me heaps, thank you
Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us , Sir . I have found in the time I have spent on this old Rock that when people become successful in their work, they don’t give away anything they can get that Almighty dollar with . You on the other hand are giving away patters for others to use . You are to be commended for your graciousness . I enjoy your videos and learn quite a lot from them . Thank you again Sir .
Hey don, Thanks for the lesson. I've been a leather craftsman since '67 and haven't done a basketweave belt yet but your video will make it alot easier. Appreciate it brother. Rob leal
Thanks for this video, it's my first time on this channel and you showed me how to properly do the basket weave. I've been doing it wrong because no one showed me how.
It's a painstaking process stamping is. I like your work. This video reminds me of my early days of learning. Cheers!
Man, I've been doing it wrong, thank you so much for showing me how, I was always hesitant to do a basket weave, not no more, thanks to you Don, much appreciated.
don, your video is very interesting, you may not have a professional camera crew, proper lighting, clean slab of marble, sensitive microphone or a very unique technique but i really like the way you explain WHY you do things, rather than how you do them, i just hit that subscribe button :)
Thanks Don,
Great job on showing basket stamping. Thanks for sharing your leather crafting knowledge and wisdom. I'm a new bee to leather craft and appreciate skilled craftsmen showing the public some very helpful techniques. As for me, you can teach an old Dog a few new tricks, (as in an ol' "Devil Dog").
God Bless, God Speed, God bless the Constitution, and God bless the Marine Corps.

Don, you are so generous with your knowledge ... it is so inspiring and I thank you so much for giving us your time ... thank you from New Zealand ...
Great video for beginners. You can’t beat get the scoop from someone in the bis. Thank you.
I’m hoping to start a small business soon. I’ve got pre made belts I’ll just be stamping with my letters to start until I feel comfortable working with raw leather. These videos help me a lot and hopefully I’ll be starting soon! Thank you so much!
Thank you Don,
The only thing I would add would be a slow close up of your finished product running from one end to the other.
Thanks, Don. I'm still new to leather crafting and watching your video just upped my game. I appreciate your instructional style, too. I have trouble paying attention sometimes but your video is so clear and easy to follow that I got it all the first time (that's a big deal for me). You've got a new fan.
Just what i needed....... Thank you for the detailed info to keep them straight
Thanks for the help. Following your instructions, my baskets look a whole lot better. Now, teach us to make the whole belt, lining and all.
Thank you Don since finding your videos I have been watching a bunch of them. They are very informative and interesting. Your generosity in parting your knowledge to others is very much appreciated .Danny

Your videos have helped me a ton. Thank you so much Don. I would love to see a video of an arrowhead basket stamp on a belt!
You look like one of Santa's Workshop Elves on Speed when you were stamping :) Another great video.
Thanks for this upload. A trip to your website had me gasping at the masterful leather work you have done. Cheers and thanks for the free downloads.
You make it look VERY easy!!!! Tried to stamp basket weave a few times - but mine looks SHIT...not to worry - I will get it right eventually ...Thanks for sharing! it helped a lot (old guy - retirement hobby)
Good work on leather belt.
Thanks, Don. These videos are great for a hobbyist/beginner like myself. Keep up the good work, may you be very prosperous in your work!
Thank you very much. Excellent video. I tried this for the first time this afternoon and was going crazy trying to keep the stamp at the correct angle. After many, many practices on scrap I am finally getting the hang of controlling the stamp.
Big Thanks for sharing such a great video,I haven't done any stamping yet so this was a great tutorial.
Really well explained. I have some of these stamps, but I really struggle to keep everything lined up and running straight. I think this will help a lot.
Great tutorial. Lots of good information. Just getting started on leather working. Love it.
Thanks mate, I've been doing leatherwork for years but was always hesitant to do a basket weave belt for the same reasons others below have said. Thanks again.
This was a very helpful video! That tip on the flat side of the camouflage tool was great! This is exactly the issue I am having.
Also I would love to see a video on how you finish this belt.
Great tutorial.
Great teacher and craftsmen! Thank you for sharing with us... :)
For diagonally basket stamping a belt, scribe a straight center line like you normally would if you were doing a straight basket stamp. Then do your first line of basket stamp by putting the bottom left foot of the stamp on the line you scribes as well as the top right foot making the correct angle. Then follow that the whole way down the belt. Much faster and easier than marking diagonal lines
Thanks Brother, Appreciate all the knowledge you shared, feel more confident doing some leather work.
Thanks again Don!
nice TUTORIOL the lines were nice and crisp, I would have liked to see the finished product
really clearly demonstrated and explained, gonna do a guitar strap.
Very helpful!!!! Thanks for taking the time to share.
Very nice work. Thanks for the video and your time.

Just started doing leather work
An excellent video with great advice, thank you.
Thanks Allot great video
Thank you for sharing I’m Learning Good job good video cajun Land church Point Louisiana
Great video. I was wondering, would you recommend bevelling the border lines? Also, how would you typically finish something like this, would you do a two tone effect where you dye the border and then apply antique paste?
Don,
Thanks for sharing your knowledge, only one question regarding the Clay Miller tool you used, basket weave size or number ? Please ( Barry King have 6 different sizes ) I need to finish this particular project.
Regards,
I hate making belts. I do very few now. Folks give you their pants size instead of belt size, the use a smaller or bigger belt buckle.....any number of things, but they rarely fit. Names on the back are nearly always off center.... You would think something as simple as a strap to go around your middle would be easy, but I have messed up more belts than anything else I've ever made. I basket stamp at an angle exactly the way you showed with that ruler.
Thanks for another great video!
Good work
Great tutorial , Don ! Thanks I subscribed.
Great Job, Excellent Work Don. Peace
Great video brother.
Great video! Very thankful for the time you put in helping the community learn and grow! What kind of glue did you use to glue the poster board to the back of the belt? Do you find that works better than tape?
Very nice work! Thank you for your videos.
I used to work in aerospace as a biological engineer, have degrees in both. I worked my way through college working in a metal shop. Making lines at odd angles is easier using a decent protractor. I have a protractor that I can scribe lines at many different degrees and easily repeat them. It's General Protractor and costs about $10 to $15. You don't need a precision one that measures 1 second of 1 minute of 1 degree. LOL
Thank you sir for all your knowledge videos. Amazing, just amazing.
Ni idea como se hacían, es bueno aprender algo nuevo. Felicidades
Excellent tutorial
Great video, could you do one on how you line, sew and finish?
Outstanding. Thank you for the tips.
I practiced and I do an arrowhead basket stamp. It is harder to do, but just take your time.
Thank you for your videos! They are so helpful!
Thanks Don. This is super helpful!
I've been basket weaving wrong. I've been trying to match the very tips of the grooves tip to tip. I was thinking that just needed more practice. Definitely going to stop doing that and space it out like you do. Beginner's issues.
Thanks 4 the lesson,must appreciated.
Another great tutorial. I noticed you backed your belt with poster board, but used the blue tape on other projects. Would you recommend using blue tape on belts? Especially liked your tutorial on the Cobra Class 4, I got one this past June, I fear it will ruin me for hand stitching.
I am a newbie in retirement as well and your video was excellent. I bought a Tandy Basketweave stamp and have not had good luck with a nice impression on some Hobby Lobby leather. What type of leather are you using?
Damn you make it simple. Thanks man.
A set of parallel rules that shipboard navigators use will help maintain your angles once you determine it.
Huge thumbs up for "... I usually know that but.. It's Wednesday and m'brain's not workin'". I feel ya. Oh boy, do I understand! :P
Dafont is a good place to find good free fonts.
Excellent. Thanks
Very nice , thanks for All you share Don!!!
Don, very well done. I am just getting started carving/stamping leather and I have a question. I noticed most say to put tape on the back of the leather to stop stretching when stamping. I have made a couple Archery arm guards, do these need tape on the back. I have tried packing tape but it pulls the fibers when you take it off, I tried painters tape and it wasn't as bad. What can I do to make the back smoother after I pull the tape off. Thank you.
I really enjoy your videos!!!
Hi Don, please confirm that the poster-board (no idea how thick that is or what it is called in South Africa) is used to prevent distortion and stretching? How do you paste it to the back, double sided tape, contact glue? Then out of the previous question, do you leave it there or remove it, as I don't normally line my belts?
I have a question: Why do you have poster board on the back of the belt? Is it to help keep the leather flat?
Very nice video thanks.
great video amigo
great vid. thanks
Totally Awesome man Thank you for that.
Thanks for a great video! New subscriber.
