  • Menopause, Hot Flashes🥵🥵...Black Cohosh
Black Cohosh is an herb native to North America.
Preparations are made of roots and underground stems of the plant, called rhizomes.
Indigenous cultures used it for muscle pain, fever, cough, delayed labor and menstrual irregularities.
Recent studies consider black cohosh a phytoestrogen. It may be helpful for menopausal symptoms, infertility, and hormonal balance.
    Uses:
    1. Fertility-studies suggests black cohosh works similar to ethinyl oestradiol.
    2. PCOS-Polycystic ovary syndrome-one of the most common causes of female infertility. Elevated testosterone and insulin resistance. Excess androgen can prevent ovulation.
    3. Menopausal symptoms-hot flashes, night sweats, sleep disturbance, mood swings and weight gain
    4. Reduce sleep disturbances due to hormone fluctuations
    5. May improve insulin resistance
    6. Reduce risk of osteoporosis
    7. Uterine fibroids
    Risks and adverse effects.
    Generally safe.
Cramping, headaches, rash, spotting, weight gain.
Consult physician if you have a history of breast cancer, uterine cancer or endometriosis
Rare: liver damage. Make sure to purchase supplements from a reputable source.
    Dosage: 20-100mg

I am 42 yo and I have started Perimenopause. Let me say this about the intrusive Hot Flashes..WOW 😡
Prior to beginning OTC supplements, I was having one hot flash after another starting around 615p and they were ruthless until 9am. I work night shift as a nurse and I was tearing off layers and then bundling back up in sweaters and my coat and that still wasn't enough to feel warm after the freezing episodes that follow the hot flashes. It's a type of cold that gets right down to the bone 🥶 I was miserable for 6 weeks.
I began taking Black Kohosh, Flaxseed Omegas, and Maca with ashwagandha and Holy OMG the hot flashes have nearly ceased completely. I might get what feels like the start of one but it never goes full force and has only occurred once or twice a night if at all. They were debilitating due to how extreme and relentless they were. I felt like I was being cooked alive and then dunked in ice cold water and my body fluctuated like this daily until I began the supplements. I have forgotten to take the Black Kohosh at 6p twice now and each time I was quickly reminded with a mini hot flash that it's time to take it and once it is in my system I typically do not have but one very mild hot flash a night, if that.
I've been waiting a few weeks to get into our Women's Center here in Ohio but I just couldn't function any more like that I needed to try something. Idk if the other two supplements are doing much because when I forget the Black Kohosh I can feel the temperature rising within. For me it's given me my life back. I was experiencing so much anxiety starting around 4p in preparation for the waking nightmare of the hot flashes I was experiencing. It was depressing as well because I like to snuggle and that was just off limits for 6 weeks.
I feel clear minded again and my skin is clearing up from dark spots and my hair feels healthier. Overall I feel great.
The Black Kohosh started working on day two but I was still having hot flashes just not as many. By day three they were even less and by day five and as long I take it an hour before their typical onset I can say it's effectively treated the issue.

I am also 42 and have been experiencing hot flashes it seems every time I go out with people and I laugh or get worked up and the hot flash comes on. It’s ridiculous my face will be so sweaty and I’m so uncomfortable. Randomly I’ll get cold chills too where my body just shivers and I have to really bundle up. At night I’m always hot even though the temperature is at 70 degrees in the house and I have the fan on full blast. I am about to try black cohosh and pray it works. How much did you take? My bottle says 150mg per capsule. Thanks for sharing your story it helps knowing I am not alone.

It’s not funny but I had to laugh because I’m the same hot and cold. And I do the same, hot then cold, sitting here now with a housecoat on. My temp in the house is 72 and I can’t sleep with any clothes on.

Menopause affects can be mitigated by adding lugols iodine. Since almost everyone is iodine deficient women are more affected than men because estrogen inhibits iodide thyroid absorption. An additional factor is the ovaries make thyroid hormone type 2. When these fail women are even more deficient hence affect of menopause.

@DrJinSung - In a few articles and videos on Black Cohosh, they say to only take for 3-6 months due to potential liver toxicity. But they don't do a good job to explain if you stop, will menopause hot flashes return right away? Also, when is it ok to start taking it again? These type of details would be very helpful. So many RUclips influencers share the same basic information but very few provide comprehensive information. For example, dosage (amount and duration), recommended brand, side effects, etc. It would be great if you could do an updated video to share these important tips. Thank you
